Gordon F. Moret Sr. age 81, of Jackson, formerly of Brooklyn, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at home under the loving care of his family and Allegiance Hospice. He was born on June 7, 1928, in Detroit, Mich., the son of Louis and Valerie (Dion) Moret. On Sept. 21, 2000, he married Maxine (Hurt) Diekman in Toledo, Ohio, and she survives. Gordon served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Michigan Steelheaders, Swan Boat Club in Monroe, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Besides his wife, Maxine, Gordon is survived by his children, Gordon F. Jr. (Nancy) Moret of Adrian, Louis (Sherry) Moret of Brooklyn, Janet (Larry) Clifton of Brooklyn and Steven (Kim) Moret of Eaton Rapids; stepchildren, Dee (Dennis) Nelson, Bill (Linda) Diekman, Mary (Wendell) Collver, Alice Meloy; four grandchildren, several stepgrandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Gordon was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Irma (Gerhardt) Moret, and a brother, Roger Moret. Memorial donations may be given to Allegiance Hospice. Harriet D. Baldwin, 89, of Hillsdale and formerly of Hudson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at her residence, under the loving care of her family and Great Lakes Hospice. She was born Nov. 26, 1919, in Celina, Ohio, to Harry and Daisy (Tracey) Feeman. She was married Dec. 31, 1938, in Angola, Ind., to Richard P. Collins and he preceded her in death. She married Bruce Baldwin on March 1, 1986 and he survives. Harriet, along with her husband Richard, owned and operated Collins Real Estate in Hudson for 20 years. She was a member of the Hudson United Methodist Church. Harriet enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a loving person who will be missed by all, especially those who called her "Grandma". Surviving besides her husband Bruce are two children, Connie (Charles) Barnes of Brooklyn, Mich. and Gary (Cynthia) Collins of Kincheloe, Mich.; five grandchildren, Amie (Patrick) Pelham of Tecumseh, Craig (Krissie) Barnes of Onsted, Bart (Jacqui) Collins of Traverse City, Leigh (Jeff) Brooks of Seattle and Charity (Eric) Barnes of Dexter; nine great-grandchildren, Preston, Landon, Ellen, Cooper, Finn, Jennifer, Gordon, Parker and Riley; brother, Henry (Tyyne) Feeman of Spring Arbor and a sister, Juanita Webster of Lansing. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Richard; a sister, Leota Schroeder and brothers, Hubert, Harold, Herschel, Howard and Harry Jr. At Harriet's request, there will be a private family service at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale officiated by Pastor Keith Porter. Ida Jane Rex, 92, of 305 S. State St., White Pigeon, died unexpectedly at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at the ThreeRivers Health emergency room. She was born Aug. 16, 1917, in Ligonier, Ind., a daughter of Gustafus and Estella (Eckert) Baker. She had lived in White Pigeon since 1936, coming from Ligonier. On Nov. 7, 1936, she married Clarence Rex in Ligonier. He preceded her in death March 7, 1980. She was employed at the Credit Union of the Weyerhaeuser Paper Company in White Pigeon and worked as a homemaker. She was a member of Porter Baptist Church in Jones and past member of the White PigeonUnitedMethodist Church.She enjoyed church activities. Surviving are a son, Blaine (Bobbie)Rex of Decatur; two grandchildren, Brian (Amy)Rex of Howe and Wendee Rex of Royal Oak; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Haile; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers, Vernon,Robert and Dewey Baker; six sisters, Ethel Baker, Lulu Shell, Josephine Sellers, Elouise Leaders, Rosallie Mock and Kathleen Albright. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater.  Jack was born July 24, 1927 in Milwaukee, Wisc. to Charles and Dorothy (Rynkus) Hauska. He married Flora “Shorty” Rubley on Jan. 14, 1950 in Coldwater.  Mr. Hauska has spent most of his life in the Coldwater area. He graduated from Coldwater High School and was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church. Jack served in the US Navy and was a veteran of WWII. He worked for 38 years for Federal Mogul, retiring in 1984. Jack spent much of his time watching a variety of sports and reading the newspaper, but he thoroughly enjoyed the time he spent at his home on Coldwater Lake and fishing and boating.  Mr. Hauska was preceded in death by his brother Harry Hauska.  He is survived by his wife Shorty, his sons Bruce (Judy Avra) Hauska of Coldwater, Joe (Michelle) Hauska of West Bloomfield, his daughters Sara (Rick) Roper, Jenny Rakocy, all of Coldwater, his sister Delores (Wayne) Wood of Lansing, grandchildren Gretchen, Becky, Mark, Matt, John, Sydney and Logan, and great grandchildren Jacob, Lucas, Lauren and Braden.  Memorials may be directed to the Coldwater Lake Association. Jack Laverne Sines, 85, of Hillsdale, passed away Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility.  He was born April 13, 1924 in Hillsdale to Samuel E. and Martha (Metcalf) Sines.  Jack was a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving four years during World War II.  He was with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Force in the Pacific Area from July 19, 1942 through Nov. 21, 1944, and from July 18, 1945 through Jan.19, 1946.  Jack retired from Hillsdale College where he worked in maintenance, and he belonged to the VFW 7301, the Knights of Columbus, and St. Anthony Catholic Church.  Jack enjoyed fishing, watching and feeding birds, watching Wheel of Fortune, and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Genevieve Mary (Laurell) Sines, whom he married Aug.28, 1947; two daughters, Linda Rowe, Coldwater, Deborah (David) Burke, Hillsdale; sister-in-law Fern Sines, Hillsdale; five grandchildren, Matt (Kelly) Bearden, Andy (Amber) Bearden, Paul Bearden, Cassandra Harmon, and Chad (Chloe) Burke and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father (Frank Madison), two brothers and three sisters. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Hillsdale, with the Rev. Thomas Butler officiating.  Visitation is scheduled at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of service.  Interment in St. Anthony Cemetery will be at a later date.  Memorials to St. Anthony Catholic Church are suggested.

Judy Ann Jones, age 66, of Sturgis, passed away Monday afternoon, Nov. 9, 2009, at her home, following a battle with cancer. She was born Dec. 25, 1942, in Sturgis a daughter of the late Delois and Betty Jane (Jordan) Lung. Judy resided nearly her whole life in Sturgis with the exception of 16 years when she lived in Colon. On April 15, 1958, she married Fred N. “John” Jones in Sturgis. He died Aug. 9, 1996. Judy had been employed by Olson Body in Sturgis for 17 years. She had also worked at Parma Tube and Midwest Tool and Cutlery, both in Sturgis, and was a homemaker. She enjoyed crafts, camping, collecting ceramic dolls, shopping and loved time with her family. She is survived by two daughters, Debra (Dave) Shipe and Dawn Casner both of Sturgis; five grandchildren, Chris Shipe, Bobbie Jo Marchand, Heather Jones, Matthew Casner and Ashley Casner; four great-grandchildren, Colin Campbell, Alex Campbell, Tyler Marchand and Cheyenne Frame; two sisters, JoAnn (Larry) Benton of Sturgis and Janet A. Lung of White Pigeon; two brothers, Jerry Allen Lung and Jeff A. (Beverly) Lung, both of Sturgis; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Shelly Mae Jones; a son, Tony Edward Jones; and three grandsons, Nicholas Jones, Brandon Casner and Ryan Casner. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Judy Jones will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Pastor Clarence Combs will officiate. In accordance with her wishes, cremation will follow the service. Private burial of the ashes will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis at a later date. Keith H. Cochran, age 81, of Klinger Lake, Sturgis, passed away late Tuesday evening, Nov. 10, 2009, at Sturgis Hospital, following a brief illness. He was born Aug. 24, 1928 in Sullivan, Ind., a son of the late Drexel and Mary (Barnes) Cochran. Keith lived most of his life in Anderson, Ind. As a youth, he was active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and was awarded the Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow. Following graduation from Anderson High School with the class of 1946, he served in the U.S. Army in the Ceremonial Detachment Honor Guard at Fort Myer, Va., attaining the rank of sergeant. He then attended Indiana University at Bloomington, where he was president of Delta Upsilon fraternity, president of the Little 500 bicycle race steering committee. Following graduation from the Indiana University School of Business in 1952, he was employed at Delco-Remy Division of general Motors Corporation in Anderson, where he worked for the next 36 years, mostly in sales and marketing, the last 21 years in sales management. He married D’Alice Coburn of Anderson on Sept. 13, 1952. While in Anderson he remained active in Scouting for many years, serving as Cub Pack Master, Assistant District Commissioner and District Chairman. He retired from Delco-Remy in 1988. In 1993, he and D’Alice moved to a property at Klinger Lake, near Sturgis,  that they had owned and enjoyed on vacations for many years. In the following years, he was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis, member of the Klinger Lake Country Club, board member and president of the Klinger Lake Association, and member and chairman of the St. Joseph County Board of Public Works. He always enjoyed the beauty of Klinger Lake and its wooded shores. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, D’Alice C. Cochran; two sons, Jeffrey H. (Mary) Cochran of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and George T. (Ann) Cochran of Indianapolis, Ind.; a daughter, Carolyn C. (John R.) Peat of Elkhart, Ind.; grandchildren Alexandra Cochran of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Scott Cochran, Gregory K. Cochran and Kristin Cochran, all of Indianapolis, and Kayla Peat, Kathleen Peat and Ryan Peat, all of Elkhart, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents, Drexel Cochran and Mary Cochran Baker; and a brother, Col. Drexel Barnes Cochran. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Nov. 27 at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Rosenberg Chapel,  Sturgis. A memorial service celebrating the life of Keith Cochran will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 28, at First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Michael Wicks will officiate. A graveside service and burial of the ashes will take place at the Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson at a later date to be announced. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1950-1954 aboard the USS Stephen Potter earning the rank of Boatswain’s Mate 3rd Class and was a life member of Captain John J. Raymond Alex Kranz, D.D.S., age 64, of Quincy, passed away Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at his home.   He was born Aug. 1, 1945 in Bad Axe, Mich., the son of Edward and Agnes (Wencley) Kranz.  Ray grew up in Harbor Beach and graduated from St. Peter & Paul High School in Ruth, Mich.  He joined the seminary and furthered his education at Wayne State University and the University of Detroit Dental School.  In 1973 he moved to Quincy where he practiced dentistry until retirement in 2006.  Ray was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Coldwater, the Quincy Rotary Club, Michigan Dental Association, Charley Lyon Loan Foundation, and the Quincy Chamber of Commerce.  He also enjoyed filled his leisure time with golfing, bowling and traveling to National Parks. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo (Huber) Kranz, whom he married July 30, 1971; two daughters, Katherine Kranz, Denver, Colo., Amy Kranz, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one sister, Janet (Richard) Gough, Deckerville, Mich., two brothers, Ronald (Frances) Kranz, Romeo, Mich., his twin,  Dr. Richard (Ilene) Kranz, Battle Creek, Mich. and one grandchild, Keegan Kranz His parents preceded him in death. Roberta Louise Hall, age 55, of Adrian died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at home with her family at her bedside. She was born in Ypsilanti on Sept. 1, 1954, the daughter of Layton and Lorraine (Arquette) Acre. On June 9, 1970, she was married to Thomas Clore and he preceded her in death on Sept. 23, 2000. Roberta was a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting, and working on arts and crafts. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. She attended St. Joseph Shrine. Roberta is survived by one son, Thomas (Janet) Clore, Jr. of Garden City; three daughters, Tammy (Scott) Bordine of Onsted, Teresa Fields of Adrian and Tina (William) Rich of Adrian; two sisters, Oakalette “Marie” (Al) McGown of Blissfield and Mellodie Fields of Port Huron, Mich.; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Tom; one brother, five sisters, and one granddaughter, Jazmin. Roberta will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at St. Joseph Shrine, Brooklyn, at 11 a.m. with Fr. Victor Clore as Celebrant. Burial of the cremated remains will be in St. Joseph Catholic Shrine Cemetery. The family will see friends from 10 a.m. until Mass time. He served in Vietnam for one year. On July 8, 1972, he married Vera M. Yoder in White Pigeon. He was employed for nine years in the shipping department at Syndicated Systems in Middlebury, Ind., and for 13 years in transportation at Coachman in Middlebury. He attended Trinity Missionary Church in Constantine. He enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing, bowling and NASCAR. Surviving are his wife, Vera M.Collins of Mottville; a daughter, Joyce M. (Jim)Geyer of Constantine; a son, Ronald E.(Miranda Kalkirtz) Collins of Howe, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; two sisters, DorothyHolmes of White Pigeon and Margaret (Domonic) Barberis of Leesburg, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Fletcher Griffin; and two sisters, Mary Jane and Mildred Inez. Thelma J. Sommers, 100, of The Courtyard in Goshen, Ind., formerly of Middlebury and Elkhart, Ind., and Adrian, Mich., passed away on Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at Goshen General Hospital. Thelma was born on Oct. 18, 1909, in Churubusco, Ind., the daughter of Charles B. and Lena (Nihiser) Johnson. She married Walter R. Sommers on May 7, 1927. He preceded her in death on May 30, 1988. Surviving are her sons, Ray B. (Katie) Sommers of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Dean D. (Carol) Sommers of Columbia, S.C.; daughters, Betty Bandy of Goshen, Ind., and Roma L. (Leonard) Fogelsong of Tecumseh; 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-granddaughter survive as well. Thelma was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward L., Hugh, Charles B. and Elmer Johnson. Mrs. Sommers served with her husband, Pastor Walter Sommers, for 28 years in the United Brethren Church, retiring in 1972. She was a member of the Clearview United Brethren Church in Goshen and the Middlebury Church of the Brethren. Thelma was a member of the Elkhart Home Economics Club and the Friendly Pioneers; she also volunteered at the Midwest Museum of American Art in Elkhart. Thelma had read the complete Bible each year for the past 17 years until her eyesight started to fail her. She attended Bristol High School in Bristol, Ind. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at the Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, Ind., and for one hour prior to the funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at the funeral home. Pastor Hubert Schmucker of Clearview United Brethren Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Zion Cemetery, Bristol, Ind.
