Adam Nicholas Lemons Adam Nicholas Lemons, age 24, a resident of New Port Richey, Fla., formerly of Roseville, Mich., died November 6, 2009, in New Port Richey, Fla. He was born February 18, 1985, in Warren, Mich. Adam graduated from Cornerstone Christian. He is survived by his wife, Maria T. (Pelino) Lemons; children, Joseph and Kailey. Parents, Robert (Cheryl) Lemons and Susan (David) Wightman; siblings, Aaron (Denise) Lemons and Andrea Lemons. Also survived by grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Adele Antonette Kalinowski Adele Antonette Kalinowski, age 84, of Imlay City, passed on to be with her husband and other family members, who passed before her on November 11, 2009. Adele was born February 22, 1925, in Buffalo, N.Y. to John and Sophia Biegajski. She was the fourth of five children. She graduated high school and married her high school sweetheart, Leo Kalinowski, on Thanksgiving Day of 1945. Adele and Leo lived in Detroit until 1964, then lived in Warren until 1986. Their retirement years were spent between Baker's Acres in Zephyr Hills, Fla. and Rose Lake Forest in Leroy, Mich. They moved to Imlay City in 2006 to be close to their son, Matthew and his family. Adele was a homemaker with an eye for detail. She loved painting and crafting and in her later years enjoyed Bingo. Adele is survived by her son, Matthew (Cyndy) Kalinowski; two grandchildren, Merry and Jeni. Adele had no needs of her own, however, memorials may be made to the Kalinowskis' sponsored African daughter to help pay for a new prosthetic leg or a favorite charity of yours in her name. Anne ‘Aileen’ Crossman, 96, of Ann Arbor and formerly of Sturgis, died Nov. 9, 2009, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor.  She was born Nov. 10, 1912, in Toronto, Canada, to Andrew and Annie (Riddell) Hutton. She married Herman Crossman and they moved to Sturgis to raise their family. Aileen was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed being with her family. She worked for the Kirsch Company in Sturgis and then for the Sturgis Public Library. After retirement she served her community for many years as a member of the Sturgis Public Library Board and on the Sturgis Memorial Hospital Guild.  She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis.  Upon moving to Ann Arbor in 1999,  she became a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Aileen is survived by a son,  Allen (Carol) Crossman of Wheaton, Ill.; a daughter, Barbara (Patrick) O’Donnell of Ann Arbor; six grandchildren, Susan (John) Roman, Pam (Tim) Ridinger, Amy (Dave) Sebesta, Greg Crossman, Brian (Kerry) O’Donnell and Kerri O’Donnell; 13 great-grandchildren, Joshua, Victoria, Adam, and Samantha Roman, Ella, Gage and Bergan Ridinger, Henry, Katie and Lindsey Sebesta, Keegan, Brendan and Molly O’Donnell; and a sister Helen Sass of California. Aileen was preceded in death by her husband in 1966; a son, Gregory, in 1968; two brothers, Terry and Robert; and two sisters Margaret and Effie. Cremation has taken place.  A memorial service will be held at a later date. |

Dorothy C. Shiffler, 83, of Hillsdale, passed away Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at Country Living Adult Foster Care in Hillsdale.  She was born Nov. 3, 1926 in Lucas County, Ohio to Henry and Ina (Dryer) Rothlisberger.  She was married June 29, 1947, to Wilford Shiffler and he preceded her in death in 2001. Dorothy was a 10-year employee at the Kroger Store and retired from the Hillsdale Community Health Center after 22 years of service.  She was a graduate of Pittsford High School in 1943. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsdale, a deacon and a Sunday school teacher.  She was a former Girl Scout leader in Frontier and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary of Hillsdale.  Dorothy was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Survivors include a daughter, Teri (Tom) Atwood of Grant, Mich.; three grandchildren, Michelle (Dustin) Wheeler, Michael (Gequittia) Atwood and Amanda (Kyle) Longcore; seven great-grandchildren also survive; a sister, Charlotte (LaVere) Dear of Osseo; three brothers, William (Hazel) Rothlisberger of Reading, Henry (Susie) Rothlisberger of Brooklyn and Bradley Rothlisberger of Statesville, N.C. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters and a brother. Funeral services for Dorothy Shiffler are at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Patti Beckman officiating.  Interment will follow at Frontier Cemetery.  The family will receive friends for visitation Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home. Eugene L. Miller, age 82, of Sturgis, passed away late Tuesday evening, Nov. 10, 2009, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis. He was born June 26, 1927, in Sturgis, a son of the late Elmer and Elsie (Bush) Miller. Gene was a lifelong resident of Sturgis. He married Virginia Ankney in LaGrange, Ind. She died March 13, 2001. All of his working life was with Sturgis Newport Business Forms. He was a member of the Sturgis Christian Fellowship Center and Loyal Order of Moose #574. He is survived by two daughters, Rebecca McAlister of White Pigeon and Kathleen Miller of Sturgis; a son, Phillip Miller of Shipshewana, Ind.; three grandchildren, Aaron, Derrick and Samantha; three great-grandchildren, Dominick, Kaydin and Jaice; a sister, Florence Flowers of Burr Oak; two brothers, Robert Miller and Kenneth Miller, both of Burr Oak; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and several brothers. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel, Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Eugene L. Miller will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Glenn Middleton of the Christian Fellowship Center in Sturgis will officiate. Evelyn M. Auten, age 81, of Tecumseh passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009. Evelyn was born Dec. 13, 1927, in Saline, Mich., to Edwin and Nellie (Mohardt) Gall. In 1945 she graduated from Britton High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert C. Auten, on May 2, 1947. They were married 52 years until his death in 1999. Together they raised three children, traveled the world (36 countries) and all 50 states. Evelyn worked at Universal Die in Saline 13 years, and worked for many years as a Farm Bureau Secretary in her husband and son’s office in Tecumseh. She went on to become Treasurer for the Ridgeway Cemetery Board until her passing. She always remained busy. A member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, she was active in quilting in the Quilting Club, she played cards with the Tuesday group, and baked her famous pies and sugar cookies. Evelyn’s faithful love for family was evident to all. Whether it be through her patient care of Robert in his blindness, her hospitality to friends and family, or her caring voice to her grandchildren. Evelyn was always gentle, kind and humble. “Gramma” would never forget a birthday or neglect sending a card for even the smallest holidays. She showed her love through her faithfulness. Evelyn was a loving Mother to three children, Keith (Bonnie) of Tecumseh, Kathy (David) Koertge of Hartland, Karen (Randy) Wilt of Tecumseh; five grandchildren, Derek (Tina) Auten, Brian (Judith) Auten, Kellie Koertge, Jaime Durand, Kristie Koertge, and six great-grandchildren, Amanda, Tyler, Evalyn, Ruby Auten, and Parker and Mackenzie Durand. Her parents, a sister, Virginia Hunter, and brother, Lauren Gall, preceded her in death.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Britton with Pastor Doug Adams officiating. Burial will be in Ridgeway Cemetery, Ridgeway. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home in Tecumseh. Frances Walton, 93, died Nov. 1, 2009, at Alvarado Hospital in San Diego,Calif. She was born Feb. 20,1916, in Highland Park, Mich., to Kasper and Mary Amirkanian. She married Thomas Walton Sr. Oct. 12,1940, and he preceded her in death Oct. 31,1989. She was a devoted wife and homemaker and a successful and helping partner with her husband while owning Harvard of Hillsdale in Litchfield. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mrs. Michael (Diane) Markarian and brother, Leo "Lee" Amirkanian. She is held in special memory by her granddaughters whom she had a great influence on their lives. Survivors include a brother, Harry Amirkanian, and two sons, Thomas E. Walton Jr,, of Vero Beach,Fla. and John F. Walton, of Carson City, Nev. Also surviving are four granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren and niece. No services or memorial are planned at this time. Gary E. Ellair, 60, of Jonesville, passed away Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at his home. He was born Oct. 24, 1949, in Jonesville, to Arthur and Marie (Slocum) Ellair. He was married April 24, 1976, to Jennifer Mees and she survives. Gary was a postal clerk, formerly employed at the Jackson Post Office. He was a graduate of Jonesville High School in 1968 and also attended Hillsdale College on a football scholarship, coached by Muddy Waters. Gary was an all-around sports fan and loved playing a pick-up game of basketball at any time. Surviving besides his wife Jennifer are two sons, Nick Ellair of Hillsdale and Alex Ellair of Phoenix, Ariz.; twin sisters, Joyce (Louie) Ludtke of Albion and Jean (Gerald) Day of Concord; three brothers, Arthur Ellair of Mosherville, Gerald (Bertha) Ellair and Larry (Cheryl) Ellair, both of Jonesville; he is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Gordon F. Moret Sr. age 81, of Jackson, formerly of Brooklyn, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at home under the loving care of his family and Allegiance Hospice. He was born on June 7, 1928, in Detroit, Mich., the son of Louis and Valerie (Dion) Moret. On Sept. 21, 2000, he married Maxine (Hurt) Diekman in Toledo, Ohio, and she survives. Gordon served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Michigan Steelheaders, Swan Boat Club in Monroe, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Besides his wife, Maxine, Gordon is survived by his children, Gordon F. Jr. (Nancy) Moret of Adrian, Louis (Sherry) Moret of Brooklyn, Janet (Larry) Clifton of Brooklyn and Steven (Kim) Moret of Eaton Rapids; stepchildren, Dee (Dennis) Nelson, Bill (Linda) Diekman, Mary (Wendell) Collver, Alice Meloy; four grandchildren, several stepgrandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Gordon was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Irma (Gerhardt) Moret, and a brother, Roger Moret. Memorial donations may be given to Allegiance Hospice. Harriet D. Baldwin, 89, of Hillsdale and formerly of Hudson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at her residence, under the loving care of her family and Great Lakes Hospice. She was born Nov. 26, 1919, in Celina, Ohio, to Harry and Daisy (Tracey) Feeman. She was married Dec. 31, 1938, in Angola, Ind., to Richard P. Collins and he preceded her in death. She married Bruce Baldwin on March 1, 1986 and he survives. Harriet, along with her husband Richard, owned and operated Collins Real Estate in Hudson for 20 years. She was a member of the Hudson United Methodist Church. Harriet enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a loving person who will be missed by all, especially those who called her "Grandma". Surviving besides her husband Bruce are two children, Connie (Charles) Barnes of Brooklyn, Mich. and Gary (Cynthia) Collins of Kincheloe, Mich.; five grandchildren, Amie (Patrick) Pelham of Tecumseh, Craig (Krissie) Barnes of Onsted, Bart (Jacqui) Collins of Traverse City, Leigh (Jeff) Brooks of Seattle and Charity (Eric) Barnes of Dexter; nine great-grandchildren, Preston, Landon, Ellen, Cooper, Finn, Jennifer, Gordon, Parker and Riley; brother, Henry (Tyyne) Feeman of Spring Arbor and a sister, Juanita Webster of Lansing. Henry F. zumFelde died on Nov. 10, 2009, at his home on the family farm surrounded by his family. Henry was born on this same farm near Wauseon, Ohio, on July 6, 1918, to Fred and Mary zumFelde. He married Loretta “Becky” Beck in 1941. The family farmed near Wauseon from 1934 until 1970 and raised a champion herd of Guernsey cows. Henry was a livestock judge at county fairs for many years. He worked for the Ohio Turnpike for 26 years and retired in 1981 as the Western District Supervisor for toll collectors. He also worked as a Fulton County auditor from 1951-55. Henry was very active in church and community organizations. He was president of the Northwest Ohio Guernsey Breeders, received an honorary degree from Wauseon FFA and was inducted into the Fulton County Agricultural Hall of Fame. He also organized a 4-H club and served as an advisor for five years. He was a member of the York Township Board of Education and the first president of the Wauseon Rotary Club, where he was also named a life member and a Paul Harris Fellow. He had the honor of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at the opening of the new Biddle Park ball diamonds this past May. Henry was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wauseon, serving at various times as council president, trustee, and deacon. In 1998, Henry organized German Lutheran Heritage of Northwest Ohio and was known for his ability to speak fluent German. He was a founding member of the Black Swamp Driving Club, and was named an honorary life member of the Michigan Horse Drawn Vehicle Association. One of his greatest pleasures was giving carriage rides to people of all ages. Henry enjoyed traveling with his wife to all 50 states and 17 foreign countries. He had a special fondness for visiting Germany where many zumFelde relatives still live. He enjoyed woodworking and finished many clocks, beds, dressers, and five horse carriages. He made a cradle for his newborn great-grandson at the age of 82. Henry also had a strong interest in genealogy, writing extensively on family history and assisting many area churches in translating church records written in old German script. Henry had a lifelong interest in horses and enjoyed training and driving horses for work and pleasure. In his later years, Henry enjoyed attending Wauseon basketball games and also traveled to see his granddaughter’s games in Indiana. First and foremost, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. There are many special memories of grandpa’s stories, jokes and hugs. Henry is survived by his wife of 68 years, Loretta “Becky” zumFelde. He is also survived by three sons, Paul (Suzanne) of Wauseon, Ohio, Dale of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Roger (Evelyn) of Goshen, Ind., and four grandchildren, Kristi (Kevin) Rotroff, Brett zumFelde, Jakob zumFelde and Marla zumFelde. Henry also had two great-granchildren, Austin and Lukas Rotroff. He was preceded in death by three children, Melvin, Karen and Larry. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, corner of Shoop and Leggett in Wauseon. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Trinity. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Wauseon or a charity of the donor’s choice. Ida Jane Rex, 92, of 305 S. State St., White Pigeon, died unexpectedly at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at the Three Rivers Health emergency room. She was born Aug. 16, 1917, in Ligonier, Ind., a daughter of Gustafus and Estella (Eckert) Baker. She had lived in White Pigeon since 1936, coming from Ligonier. On Nov. 7, 1936, she married Clarence Rex in Ligonier. He preceded her in death March 7, 1980. She was employed at the Credit Union of the Weyerhaeuser Paper Company in White Pigeon and worked as a homemaker. She was a member of Porter Baptist Church in Jones and past member of the White Pigeon United Methodist Church. She enjoyed church activities. Surviving are a son, Blaine (Bobbie) Rex of Decatur; two grandchildren, Brian (Amy) Rex of Howe and Wendee Rex of Royal Oak; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Haile; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers, Vernon, Robert and Dewey Baker; six sisters, Ethel Baker, Lulu Shell, Josephine Sellers, Elouise Leaders, Rosallie Mock and Kathleen Albright. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater.  Jack was born July 24, 1927 in Milwaukee, Wisc. to Charles and Dorothy (Rynkus) Hauska. He married Flora “Shorty” Rubley on Jan. 14, 1950 in Coldwater.  Mr. Hauska has spent most of his life in the Coldwater area. He graduated from Coldwater High School and was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church. Jack served in the US Navy and was a veteran of WWII. He worked for 38 years for Federal Mogul, retiring in 1984. Jack spent much of his time watching a variety of sports and reading the newspaper, but he thoroughly enjoyed the time he spent at his home on Coldwater Lake and fishing and boating.  Mr. Hauska was preceded in death by his brother Harry Hauska.  He is survived by his wife Shorty, his sons Bruce (Judy Avra) Hauska of Coldwater, Joe (Michelle) Hauska of West Bloomfield, his daughters Sara (Rick) Roper, Jenny Rakocy, all of Coldwater, his sister Delores (Wayne) Wood of Lansing, grandchildren Gretchen, Becky, Mark, Matt, John, Sydney and Logan, and great grandchildren Jacob, Lucas, Lauren and Braden.  Memorials may be directed to the Coldwater Lake Association. Jack Laverne Sines, 85, of Hillsdale, passed away Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility.  He was born April 13, 1924 in Hillsdale to Samuel E. and Martha (Metcalf) Sines.  Jack was a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving four years during World War II.  He was with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Force in the Pacific Area from July 19, 1942 through Nov. 21, 1944, and from July 18, 1945 through Jan.19, 1946.  Jack retired from Hillsdale College where he worked in maintenance, and he belonged to the VFW 7301, the Knights of Columbus, and St. Anthony Catholic Church.  Jack enjoyed fishing, watching and feeding birds, watching Wheel of Fortune, and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Genevieve Mary (Laurell) Sines, whom he married Aug.28, 1947; two daughters, Linda Rowe, Coldwater, Deborah (David) Burke, Hillsdale; sister-in-law Fern Sines, Hillsdale; five grandchildren, Matt (Kelly) Bearden, Andy (Amber) Bearden, Paul Bearden, Cassandra Harmon, and Chad (Chloe) Burke and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father (Frank Madison), two brothers and three sisters. Judy Ann Jones, age 66, of Sturgis, passed away Monday afternoon, Nov. 9, 2009, at her home, following a battle with cancer. She was born Dec. 25, 1942, in Sturgis a daughter of the late Delois and Betty Jane (Jordan) Lung. Judy resided nearly her whole life in Sturgis with the exception of 16 years when she lived in Colon. On April 15, 1958, she married Fred N. “John” Jones in Sturgis. He died Aug. 9, 1996. Judy had been employed by Olson Body in Sturgis for 17 years. She had also worked at Parma Tube and Midwest Tool and Cutlery, both in Sturgis, and was a homemaker. She enjoyed crafts, camping, collecting ceramic dolls, shopping and loved time with her family. She is survived by two daughters, Debra (Dave) Shipe and Dawn Casner both of Sturgis; five grandchildren, Chris Shipe, Bobbie Jo Marchand, Heather Jones, Matthew Casner and Ashley Casner; four great-grandchildren, Colin Campbell, Alex Campbell, Tyler Marchand and Cheyenne Frame; two sisters, JoAnn (Larry) Benton of Sturgis and Janet A. Lung of White Pigeon; two brothers, Jerry Allen Lung and Jeff A. (Beverly) Lung, both of Sturgis; several nieces and nephews. Keith H. Cochran, age 81, of Klinger Lake, Sturgis, passed away late Tuesday evening, Nov. 10, 2009, at Sturgis Hospital, following a brief illness. He was born Aug. 24, 1928 in Sullivan, Ind., a son of the late Drexel and Mary (Barnes) Cochran. Keith lived most of his life in Anderson, Ind. As a youth, he was active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and was awarded the Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow. Following graduation from Anderson High School with the class of 1946, he served in the U.S. Army in the Ceremonial Detachment Honor Guard at Fort Myer, Va., attaining the rank of sergeant. He then attended Indiana University at Bloomington, where he was president of Delta Upsilon fraternity, president of the Little 500 bicycle race steering committee. Following graduation from the Indiana University School of Business in 1952, he was employed at Delco-Remy Division of general Motors Corporation in Anderson, where he worked for the next 36 years, mostly in sales and marketing, the last 21 years in sales management. He married D’Alice Coburn of Anderson on Sept. 13, 1952. While in Anderson he remained active in Scouting for many years, serving as Cub Pack Master, Assistant District Commissioner and District Chairman. He retired from Delco-Remy in 1988. In 1993, he and D’Alice moved to a property at Klinger Lake, near Sturgis,  that they had owned and enjoyed on vacations for many years. In the following years, he was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis, member of the Klinger Lake Country Club, board member and president of the Klinger Lake Association, and member and chairman of the St. Joseph County Board of Public Works. He always enjoyed the beauty of Klinger Lake and its wooded shores. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, D’Alice C. Cochran; two sons, Jeffrey H. (Mary) Cochran of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and George T. (Ann) Cochran of Indianapolis, Ind.; a daughter, Carolyn C. (John R.) Peat of Elkhart, Ind.; grandchildren Alexandra Cochran of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Scott Cochran, Gregory K. Cochran and Kristin Cochran, all of Indianapolis, and Kayla Peat, Kathleen Peat and Ryan Peat, all of Elkhart, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents, Drexel Cochran and Mary Cochran Baker; and a brother, Col. Drexel Barnes Cochran. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Nov. 27 at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Rosenberg Chapel,  Sturgis. A memorial service celebrating the life of Keith Cochran will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 28, at First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Michael Wicks will officiate. A graveside service and burial of the ashes will take place at the Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson at a later date to be announced. The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mr. Cochran’s memory consider the charity of one’s choice or the Foundation of the First Presbyterian Church, 1320 S. Kenneth Allen Colburn Jr., age 23, of Adrian passed away Nov. 7, 2009, in Mississippi as a result of an automobile accident. He was born Aug. 6, 1986, in Amory, Miss., the son of Kenneth Colburn Sr. and Brenda Hunt. On May 12, 2009, he married Sierra Rojo; she survives. In addition to his wife, Sierra, he is survived by his children, Kenneth Allen Colburn III, Ava Jade Rojo-Colburn and Gabriella Lanai Colburn; his parents, Kenneth (Lisa) Colburn Sr. and Brenda Hunt; his sister, Christina (Anthony Perez) Colburn; his brother, Maurice Tyler Colburn, and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Quilla Colburn-Wigginton, and his grandfather, Maurice Colburn. Funeral Services will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian, with the Rev. Lloyd Jewett officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Lisa Lou Sears-Blalock, of Frontier, Michigan passed away Monday, Nov. 2, 2009 at the Karmanos Cancer Center in Detroit. She was born Nov. 4, 1959 in Hillsdale the daughter of Robert and Clara (Gary) Martin. She is survived by one daughter, Kesia (Ryan) Steffien of Brunswick, Ohio; one son, Logan Blalock of Frontier; two grandchildren, Brooke and Cody Steffien; two sisters, Tania (Charles) Allen of Ossineke, Mich., and Darcia (Alan) French of Hillsdale; three nephews, Robbie (Kathy) Allen of Ossineke, Chad French of Hillsdale, and Chris French of North Adams; several great-nieces and great-nephews; a good friend, Darrel Sears; step-mother, Sarah Martin; and step-sisters and step-brothers. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.  Lisa worked at the Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Department for three years,  the Frontier Post Office as a relief Postmaster for four years and was a Hillsdale City Carrier for one year. She was also a member of the Arabian Horse Association. A graveside memorial service to honor the life of Mrs. Lisa Lou Sears-Blalock will be held at the Northlawn Cemetery in North Adams 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Ray Wilson officiating. Lucile M. Stanfield, aged 91, of Hillsdale, passed away under the loving care of family and the staff at the Allegiance Hospice Home in Jackson.  She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert E. Poor and Harold M. Stanfield.  Lucile is survived by her loving family of three children, Richard M. Poor, Barry E. Poor and Barbara J. Mable Lahr, recently of Battle Creek and formerly of Locke Rd. in Sherwood, age 93, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009. Born Mable Krzeminski, daughter to Pearl and George, she was the last of their children. She and her sister Elizabeth were employed at the telephone company in Coldwater. She also worked at a factory making pants for soldiers during WWII. She married Lyle Lahr when he returned from the service becoming a full-time housewife and mother. She is survived by daughter Sharon Mills of Sherwood and son Philip Lahr of Battle Creek, grandchildren Trevor and Tracy Mills and Sawyer and Spencer Lahr, greatgrandchildren Clayton and Sydney, children of Tracy Mills. A memorial mass will be on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Union City. Lunch and memories will be shared after mass in the church basement. Orris Hinshaw, 93, formerly of Blissfield, died on Nov. 6, 2009, at Aspen Grove Assisted Living where he was a resident for the past 4 ½ years. He was born Sept. 20, 1916, in Kansas, grew up in rural North Dakota and married and raised his three sons in Michigan. Orris was married to Cecil Suydam for 56 years; she preceded him in 1996. He was also preceded in death by parents, Orla and Echo, and siblings, Margaret Trinka, Charlotte Bailey and Ivan Hinshaw. Orris is survived by his sons, Norm (Pat) Hinshaw of Lambertville, Jerry (Gloria) Hinshaw of Sylvania and Jeff (Carol) Hinshaw of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren, Lauri (Jeff) Panning, Curtis (Emily) Hinshaw, Angie Wopshall, Amy (John) Jacob, Holly Hinshaw and Aubrey (Josh) Trammel; 10 great-grandchildren, and his brother, Glenn (Emma) Hinshaw of Dickinson, N.D. Orris was an accomplished track and field athlete, basketball player, served in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) during the Great Depression and was a Freemason. He was employed with Revco in Deerfield, Blissfield Manufacturing, and Scientemp Corp. in Adrian as a Tool and Die Supervisor. He was a long-time active member of Wellsville United Methodist Church and Emmanuel United Methodist in Blissfield. Orris will always be remembered as a devoted caregiver to his wife and for his honesty, integrity and generosity. Visitation will be at Tagsold Funeral Home in Blissfield on Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, from 3 to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.  Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Aaron Kesson officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery immediately following the funeral services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Aspen Grove Assisted Living, Emmanuel United Methodist Church or to Erie West Hospice. Paul F. Stemen, 78 of Sturgis, passed away Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009 at the Community Health Center of Branch County in Coldwater. He was born Nov. 14, 1931 in LaGrange County, Ind., a son to the late Stanley and Mildred (Dunifin) Stemen. He had resided most of his life in the Sturgis and Bronson area and graduated from Bronson High School with the class of 1950. Paul retired from the Kirsch Company in Sturgis following 40 years of dedicated employment. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1950-1954 aboard the USS Stephen Potter earning the rank of Boatswain’s Mate 3rd Class and was a life member of Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW in Sturgis. He is survived by son; John Stemen,step-sons; Lucky Hutchison of Bronson and Dave (Mary Lou) Hutchison of Sturgis, grandchildren; April Stroh of Sturgis, Dale Butcher of Vicksburg, Leslie Willis of Royal Oak, Kyle (Mandy) Butcher of Fairbanks, Alaska, Jenna (Derek) Mathieu of Portage and Evan Hutchison of Sturgis, several great grandchildren, two brothers, Art and Wesley, sister; Barbara and several nieces and nephews. Raymond Alex Kranz, D.D.S., age 64, of Quincy, passed away Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at his home.   He was born Aug. 1, 1945 in Bad Axe, Mich., the son of Edward and Agnes (Wencley) Kranz.  Ray grew up in Harbor Beach and graduated from St. Peter & Paul High School in Ruth, Mich.  He joined the seminary and furthered his education at Wayne State University and the University of Detroit Dental School.  In 1973 he moved to Quincy where he practiced dentistry until retirement in 2006.  Ray was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Coldwater, the Quincy Rotary Club, Michigan Dental Association, Charley Lyon Loan Foundation, and the Quincy Chamber of Commerce.  He also enjoyed filled his leisure time with golfing, bowling and traveling to National Parks. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo (Huber) Kranz, whom he married July 30, 1971; two daughters, Katherine Kranz, Denver, Colo., Amy Kranz, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one sister, Janet (Richard) Gough, Deckerville, Mich., two brothers, Ronald (Frances) Kranz, Romeo, Mich., his twin,  Dr. Richard (Ilene) Kranz, Battle Creek, Mich. and one grandchild, Keegan Kranz His parents preceded him in death. A memorial service is at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Charles Catholic Church, Coldwater, with the Rev. Dan Doctor officiating. Roberta Louise Hall, age 55, of Adrian died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at home with her family at her bedside. She was born in Ypsilanti on Sept. 1, 1954, the daughter of Layton and Lorraine (Arquette) Acre. On June 9, 1970, she was married to Thomas Clore and he preceded her in death on Sept. 23, 2000. Roberta was a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting, and working on arts and crafts. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. She attended St. Joseph Shrine. Roberta is survived by one son, Thomas (Janet) Clore, Jr. of Garden City; three daughters, Tammy (Scott) Bordine of Onsted, Teresa Fields of Adrian and Tina (William) Rich of Adrian; two sisters, Oakalette “Marie” (Al) McGown of Blissfield and Mellodie Fields of Port Huron, Mich.; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Tom; one brother, five sisters, and one granddaughter, Jazmin. Roberta will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at St. Joseph Shrine, Brooklyn, at 11 a.m. with Fr. Victor Clore as Celebrant. Burial of the cremated remains will be in St. Joseph Catholic Shrine Cemetery. The family will see friends from 10 a.m. until Mass time. Ronald C. Collins, age 61, of 11142 U.S. 12, Mottville Township, White Pigeon, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at Goshen General Hospital in Goshen, Ind. He was born Feb. 24, 1948, in Parkin, Ark., a son of Howard and Mary (Osborn) Collins. He served in the U.S. Navy for six years, from 1966 to 1972, as a Seaman E-3 on the USS Preble. He served in Vietnam for one year. On July 8, 1972, he married Vera M. Yoder in White Pigeon. He was employed for nine years in the shipping department at Syndicated Systems in Middlebury, Ind., and for 13 years in transportation at Coachman in Middlebury. He attended Trinity Missionary Church in Constantine. He enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing, bowling and NASCAR. Surviving are his wife, Vera M. Collins of Mottville; a daughter, Joyce M. (Jim) Geyer of Constantine; a son, Ronald E. (Miranda Kalkirtz) Collins of Howe, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Holmes of White Pigeon and Margaret (Domonic) Barberis of Leesburg, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Fletcher Griffin; and two sisters, Mary Jane and Mildred Inez. Visitation is 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon. Thelma J. Sommers, 100, of The Courtyard in Goshen, Ind., formerly of Middlebury and Elkhart, Ind., and Adrian, Mich., passed away on Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at Goshen General Hospital. Thelma was born on Oct. 18, 1909, in Churubusco, Ind., the daughter of Charles B. and Lena (Nihiser) Johnson. She married Walter R. Sommers on May 7, 1927. He preceded her in death on May 30, 1988. Surviving are her sons, Ray B. (Katie) Sommers of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Dean D. (Carol) Sommers of Columbia, S.C.; daughters, Betty Bandy of Goshen, Ind., and Roma L. (Leonard) Fogelsong of Tecumseh; 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-granddaughter survive as well. Thelma was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward L., Hugh, Charles B. and Elmer Johnson. Mrs. Sommers served with her husband, Pastor Walter Sommers, for 28 years in the United Brethren Church, retiring in 1972. She was a member of the Clearview United Brethren Church in Goshen and the Middlebury Church of the Brethren. Thelma was a member of the Elkhart Home Economics Club and the Friendly Pioneers; she also volunteered at the Midwest Museum of American Art in Elkhart. Thelma had read the complete Bible each year for the past 17 years until her eyesight started to fail her. She attended Bristol High School in Bristol, Ind. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at the Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, Ind., and for one hour prior to the funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at the funeral home.
