ARTHUR FRANK WHEELER MARLETTE Arthur Frank Wheeler, age 85, of Marlette, died Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at Sanilac County Medical Care Facility in Sandusky, Michigan. He was born January 24, 1923 in Marlette, Michigan the son of the late Frank and Elizabeth (Schneider) Wheeler. He was a lifelong area resident and farmer. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during WWII. Arthur married Loanne E. Scholz on November 22, 1951 in Marlette, she died on June 18, 2005. He is survived by one daughter; Deborah & (Harley) Rich of Marlette, three sons;David & (Cindy) Wheeler of Caro, Daniel & (Tanya) Wheeler of Grand Blanc and Douglas Wheeler of Marlette, one brother;Robert Wheeler of Marlette, sister-in-law; Mary Wheeler of Marlette, 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. BERNARD GERALD "JERRY" MUXLOW BROWN CITY Bernard Gerald "Jerry" Muxlow, age 68, of Brown City died Saturday, December 27, 2008. He was born August 3, 1940 in Marlette to the late Bernard J. and Hazel Alta (Clink) Muxlow. Jerry graduated from Brown City High School Class of 1958 and on June 23, 1962 married Joanne Batchelor at the Brown City Missionary Church. Jerry was a farmer for many years but had most recently retired as a custodian from the St. Clair County Sheriff Dept. He was a life long member of the Brown City Missionary Church. He is survived by his wife, Joanne of 46 years, daughter; Colleen (Kevin) Burke, two grandchildren; Jacob and Jordyn Burke, sister; Roxanne (Gary) Dean, brother; Craig (Donna Mann) Muxlow and many nieces and nephews. Betty J. Lammon, 81, of 770N - 075E, LaGrange, Ind., passed away, Dec. 14, 2008, at Life Care Center of LaGrange surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 11, 1927, in Toledo, Ohio, a daughter of Russell K. and Martha P. (Noel) Field, and moved to LaGrange in the early 1990s. On Oct. 19, 1968, she married Clifford S. Lammon in Toledo. He preceded her in death on April 12, 1981. Betty had worked as a secretary  in the automotive field in Toledo for many years. At one time she was also a stock car driver for the company where she worked. She was a former member of the American Legion Post #512 Ladies Auxiliary in Toledo, and she was a former member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis, Mich. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother she also loved crocheting, gardening and bingo. Surviving are: two daughters, Susan and Jim Koehler of Shipshewana and Nancy Russell and Harry Pellegrene of Sturgis; two sons, Thomas and Judy Allred and Gary and Tammy Allred, both of Toledo; a sister, Eileen Otting of Massachusetts; two brothers, Russell and Ann Field and Bob Otting, both of Toledo; five grandchildren, Julie and Phillip Holderman of Lake City, Fla., Scott Jones of Kokomo, Ind., Lisa Allred, Crystal Pringle and Gary Allred II, all of Toledo; and 12 great-grandchildren. Clarence L. Osentoski 1934-2008 Clarence L. Osentoski, 74, Caseville, died Friday, January 2, 2009 at Crittenton Hospital in Rochester Hills after a long battle with cancer. He was born June 1, 1934 in Ubly to the late Louis and Anna (Pawlowski) Osentoski. On October 24, 1953, Clarence married Donna J. Popour of Harbor Beach at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church. After marrying her, he attended a railroad engineering school in Minnesota and worked as the station manager at the Wixom Depot. He graduated from Ubly High School in 1952 In 1954 he returned to Huron County to open Osentoski Farm Equipment in Harbor Beach with his father. As the business grew to include dealerships in Bad Axe and Pigeon, Clarence moved his family to Caseville in 1968. This family owned business is now run by the third generation of the Osentoski family. He was active throughout Huron County. Clarence had been the Chairman of the Huron County Road Commission, a member at Scenic Golf and CountryClub and St. Roch Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing cards, sports and traveling. He is survived by his wife, Donna; children, Donald (Lana), Pigeon, Timothy (Sharon), Bad Axe, Karen, Caseville, Thomas (Kari), Bay City, Diane Bass, Clarkston, Richard, Caseville and Daniel (Rose), Caseville; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and sisters, Betty Hill, Ariz. and Doris (Charles) Crowl, Warren. "VI" Age 102. Passed away peacefully on January 7 at Star Manor Assisted Living. Dear wife of Roland Dawson, to whom she was married for 37 years, and Arden Bennett for 15 years. Mother of her beloved Nicki (Charles) McGuigan, grandmother of Ric (Kitty) McGuigan, Kit (Denise) McGuigan, and Bryn McGuigan. Great-grandmother of Crystal (Czarnik), Steve, Dave and Troy McGuigan. Aside from her devotion to her family, Vi was extremely committed to her Savior Jesus Christ, and the Arts. As to the Artsin addition to being an accomplished painter, Vi was Member-Secretary of The Detroit Palette Guild in the 60's. Vi was that rare person who touched people wherever she went, with her obvious inner resolve and kindness. It was her wish that a formal funeral not be held, but that her ashes be spread during a memorial in her honor this coming Spring. If ever there were a person who deserved to walk the streets of Heavenit's Vi. |

Dale  Brown, age 62, of Constantine, Mich., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at the Bronson Methodist Hospital in  Kalamazoo. He was born in Coldwater, Mich., on June 25, 1946,  a son of  William and Charlotte (Sours) Brown.   On February 27, 1970, he married Marjorie Shirk in Coldwater. Dale worked as a roll setter at Simplex paper company in  Constantine from 1972 to 2001. He enjoyed reading the Bible, fishing and working on cars and with wood. Darryl D. Gottschalk, age 69, of Sturgis, passed away Tuesday evening, Jan. 6, 2009 at his home. He was born July 23, 1939 in Jonesville, a son to the late Marlin and Flossie (Smith) Gottschalk. Darryl’s early life was spent in Coldwater where he graduated from Coldwater High School with the class of 1957. Following his graduation from high school, Darryl moved to Sturgis where he resided the remainder of his life. On Sept. 30, 1989, he married Verna Mae Kilen at the First Church of God in Sturgis. She died June 19, 2005. He retired from Rood Industries in Sturgis in 2001 after 20 years of employment when the business closed. Prior to joining Rood Industries, he had been employed by Means Service in Sturgis for over 20 years and he had also worked at Ross Laboratories in Sturgis for several years. Darryl was a veteran of the National Guard earning the rank of Sergeant. He was a past member of B.P.O. Elks #1381. He enjoyed rifle target shooting, bowling, playing and participating in tournaments and fishing, especially fishing for bass. For many years, Darryl fished in local bass tournaments and circuits including the B & W Bass Circuit and RJ’s Bass Circuit. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his children Darren (Lisa) Gottschalk of Sturgis, Kelly Gottschalk of Howe, Ind., Hollie Butler of Odell, Ill. and Douglas Rosson, Jr. of Cary, Ill.; grandchildren Skyler, Laci, Ashlee, Kyle and Trent; sisters Marilyn (Joe) Otis of Coldwater, Darlene (Fred) Loetz of Sturgis and Shila (John) Potts of Angola, Ind., brother Jerry (Linda) Gottschalk of South Whitley, Ind. and many nieces and nephews. His parents, wife, son Darryl Dean Gottschalk, Jr. and nephew Michael Otis preceded him in death. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial graveside service and burial of the ashes will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. The Rev. Sam Maddox of the Light & Life Wesleyan Church in Three Rivers will officiate. Full military rites will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Posy #1355 VFW and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Diana R. Paul 1951 - 2008 Diana R. Paul, 57, Prescott, Ariz., passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the Las Fuentes Care Center in Prescott. She was born in Pigeon on July 23, 1951, the daughter of Jack H. Sr. and Marilyn (Jurgess) Paul. Diana had a kind and gentle heart. She loved life and laughed a lot. She enjoyed being a Girl Scout, going outdoors to the woods and swimming. She liked school, drawing, coloring, puzzles and her dolls. She especially enjoyed Christmas and her birthdays, traveling with her parents, visiting at Grandma Doyle's, eating brown sugar and butter sandwiches and being called "Lucy." She loved her Lord Jesus. She is survived by her father, Jack H. Paul, Sr., Cottonwood, Ariz.; two sisters, Pattie (Jim) Hammett, John Day, Ore. and Mary (Rick) Hinson, Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Clare (Amy) Paul, Dayton, Ohio and Jack (Wendy) Paul, Lake Orion and several nieces and nephews. Donald L. Booher, 77, of North Adams, Mich. passed away Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009 at the Community Health Center of Branch County. He was born Dec. 23, 1931, in Hudson, Mich., the son of George and Lucile (Laubaugh) Booher. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by one sister, Luella (Don) Ladd of Jerome and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Booher was a life-long resident of North Adams and he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Michigan Highway Department – Lenawee County Division after more than 30 years of service. He was a member of the Jackson Outdoor Club and a lifetime member of the NRA. He was also an avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Donald L. Booher will be held at the Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home in North Adams at 1 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Paul Pickell officiating. Interment will take place in the Pease Cemetery in North Adams. ERNEST MARK "PETE" BULLOCK DECKER Ernest M. Bullock, age 89, of Decker, died Friday, December 26, 2008 in Sanilac County Medical Care Facility, Sandusky following a brief illness. He was born March 12, 1919 at home in Evergreen Township to William and Mary (McComb) Bullock. He married Emma Edith Kitchin June 30, 1942 in Emma's parents home in Evergreen Township. Ernest was a crop and dairy farmer. He worked for a few years for Active Industries in Elkton and for Gerden Industries in Marlette. Ernest retired as a carpenter working commercial construction after about ten years. He was a member of Mizpah Missionary Church for many years. Ernest enjoyed rabbit hunting in his younger years and he enjoyed woodworking. Ernest is survived by his wife; Emma, children; Donald (Virginia) Bullock of Decker, David (Penny) Bullock of Saginaw, Dale (Fay) Bullock of Sandusky, Diane K. Edwin R. “Bob” McKnight, Jr., 80, of Pittsford, passed away Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008 at Kison’s Country Care Home in Hudson. Bob was born on Aug. 9, 1928, in Belleville, Mich., the son of Edwin R. and Mildred (Gilbert) McKnight, Sr.  He graduated from Pittsford High School in 1946.  He farmed while taking classes at Hillsdale College where he earned his B.S. in 1963. He later received his Master’s in Education at Eastern Michigan University.  He taught the sixth grade for the Reading school system until his retirement in 1990.  Bob married Maridell Gorringe on March 31,1984, in Owosso.  She survives.  Together they opened Needles and Threads in 1989.  Bob loved quilting as he has quilted more than 2,000 quilts.  He also enjoyed talking and visiting as Bob never met a stranger. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hudson and the Michigan Educational Association. Surving besides his wife, Maridell are his children, Marlene Ann (Rick) Walker of Edmore, Donald Graham (Emma) McKnight of Henderson, Sarah Patrice McKnight of Hillsdale, Jennifer Lee (Bill) Bavin of Montrose, Colo., Robert V. (Catherine) McKnight of Pittsford, Scott Edwin (Marie) McKnight of Pinckney, step-children, Jennifer (Brent) Bassett of Royal Oak and Mark Cuff of Reading, nine grandchildren, Shaun, Ryan and Cody Walker, Jonathan, Stephanie, Joshua (Kayla), Melissa, Aaron, and Paul McKnight, one great grandson, Andrew Robert McKnight and three step-grandchildren, Jedidiah, Jade and Chance Cuff.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter in infancy. Elaine S. Schryer Hess, age 87, of Ann Arbor and formerly of Hillsdale, passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, at Glacier Hills Care and Rehabilitation Center in Ann Arbor. She was born May 3, 1921 in Detroit to Loren and Lucy (Quiggle) Jackson. Elaine was a 1939 graduate of Denby High School in Detroit. She was a resident of the Detroit area until moving to Hillsdale in 1954. In 1966 she moved to Phoenix, Ariz. and moved back to Ann Arbor in May of 2005. She was a member of the Hillsdale First Presbyterian Church, a Sunday school teacher for a number of years. She was an elder of the church from 1963-1964 and a member of the Standing Education Committee at the church. Mrs. Hess was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was married Jan.18, 1941 to Francis Schryer and he preceded her in death June 18, 1961. Elaine married Jack Hess Dec. 21, 1967 and he survives. Also surviving are daughter, Diane Fichter of Ann Arbor; sons, Norman (Janice) Schryer of New Jersey and Thomas (Charlotte) Schryer of Willoughby Hills, Ohio; stepsons, Greg Hess of Miami, Fla. and Steve (Linda) Hess of Toledo, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband and two brothers, Stanley and Duane Jackson. Funeral services for Elaine Schryer Hess will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsdale with the Rev. Dudley Elvery officiating. Elsie M. Snyder of DeLand, Fla.,  passed away Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at Florida Hospital in Deland.  Mrs. Snyder, a homemaker, was born in Jackson Heights, New York.  She lived for many years in Centerport, Long Island and Sturgis,Mich., before retiring with her husband to DeLand, Fla.  Mrs. Snyder was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, William F. Snyder and her son, Scott.  Survivors include one brother, Ernest Martin (Betty) of Boynton Beach, Fla.; four sons, John (Nancy) of Dayton, Ohio and Bob of Dayton, Ohio, William (Dee) of Deland Fla. and Michael (Jennifer) of Sturgis Mich.; six grandchildren, Sarah, Emily, Jonathan, Dianna, Alison, and Katie; step grandchildren, James and Julie, of Deland Fla.; four great-grandchildren, Emma, Ellie, Eva and Peyton; step great-grandchildren Gabriell and Ayden; brother-in-law, George and sister-in-law Prissilla Cassidy (dear friends), of Long Island, New York; nephew and niece George and Susan Gilhooley of Deland Fla. and their three children Allison, Andrew and Kevin; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.  Mrs. Snyder resided at Woodland Towers in DeLand where she volunteered at the Country Store and was a member of the Residence Committee. Garry L. Britton, 73, lost his battle with cancer on Thursday, January 1, 2009, at his home in Hillsdale.  He was born Jan. 5, 1935 in Ransom Township to Hugh and Bessie (Williams) Britton.  He was raised on the corner  of Burt Road and M-99 at Brittons Gray Gables. From his first marriage to Joyce Lyon Wilson he has two daughters, Linda (Rob) Cronkhite, Buckeye, Ariz., and Connie (Dennis) McDowell, Osseo,; three sons, Garry E. (Charlott) Britton, Camden ,John Britton and James (Sheila) Britton, Osseo. On Sept. 20, 1975 he married Patricia (Lown) Southwell and from this marriage he was blessed with six step-children, Rickey (Eve) Southwell, Kokomo, Ind., Kenneth (Angele) Southwell, Elmendorf, Texas, Gary Lee (Sheila) Southwell, LaGrange, Ind., Victoria Landis, Orland, Ind. and Joy Garr, Hillsdale.  Joy was his right hand person during his illness.  He considered her and all his step-children as his.  He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren and two step-great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Leland and a step-son Christopher Southwell. Garry retired from Metalloy Foundry after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Fayette Street Church of Christ. He enjoyed camping and spent six years as a seasonal camper at Tri-Lake Trails Campground in Marshall. He had a woodshop at home until his health no longer allowed it. Funeral services for Garry Britton will be  11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5 at the Fayette Street Church of Christ with Darwin Fretenborough,minister officiating.  Interment will follow at East Hill Cemetery in Jefferson Township.   The family will receive friends for visitation Sunday from 2-6 p.m., at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home, 40 S. Gertrude Rhoda Upper North Branch Gertrude Rhoda Upper, age 94, of North Branch (formerly of Lapeer), passed away Monday (December 29, 2008). She was born September 19, 1914 on the Graff farm on Perry Road in Grand Blanc to Leopold and Myrtle (Robinson) Sharland. She married Harold Upper on October 1, 1936 in Goodrich, MI, they had been married 54 years when he died in 1991. Gertrude graduated from Goodrich High School in 1932 and attended her 76th class reunion in 2008. Harold and Gertrude moved to Lapeer in 1939. Mrs. Upper was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Suncrest Auxiliary, and was a 4-H leader for many years. She loved to play cards, especially euchre and canasta, and had a special way with dogs and cats. Mr. and Mrs. Upper traveled extensively, her apple pies were extraordinary. Irena M. Pierson, 93, of Hillsdale, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, at her home. She was born Jan. 11, 1915, in Clare, to Benjamin and Emma (Stoddard) Cooper.  She was married June 25, 1934, to Robert Pierson and he preceded her in death in 2001. Irena was a graduate of Ann Arbor High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, having served during World War II. She is survived by two daughters, Diana (Kurt Compeau) Pierson of Hillsdale and Beth (Bill) Kastler of New Baltimore; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Besides her husband Robert, she was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and two brothers. Cremation has taken place at Irena’s request. John E. Smallegan, age 80, of Holland, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died on Friday, December 19, 2008, at Holland Hospital.  A private committal service was held with Rev. Steven Smallegan officiating.  John was born in Jamestown, MI on April 3, 1928 to Dick and Anna (Klooster) Smallegan.  He grew up in the village of Forest Grove, later residing in the Zeeland/Holland area.  He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, following which he graduated from Hope College. His major employment was that of a broker for DeBruyn Produce Company.  He also owned the Old Schoolhouse Restaurant in Borculo.  As a member of Second Reformed Church in Zeeland, John served as a deacon, an elder, choir member, treasurer, Sunday school teacher, Men’s Breakfast leader and established the noon Food For Thought program.  He served on Zeeland City Council, Zeeland Public School Board as a trustee and president, started Community Schools Council for athletes and sports (still active today), and organized Haven Huis, a 46-unit apartment complex for low-income housing.  Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years, Evelyn; and his children, Barbara Huizenga, Edward (Cheryl), Jack (Lisa), Donald, and Elizabeth Ebihara (Jeff); plus ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.  A son, Daniel, is deceased.  A memorial service is planned for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Third Reformed Church, 111 West 13th Street, Holland, with Rev. Together Harold and Leah operated the Ben Franklin Store in Imlay City and the Harbor Beach Variety Store for over 25 years. Harold preceded her in death on August 30, 1996. Leah was a member of the United Methodist Church in Harbor Beach, United Methodist Women, the Harbor Beach Chamber of Commerce and sang in the Harbor Beach Community Choir. She enjoyed her Wednesday night card games, and others in between, cooking and camping at Sand Lake. MYRTLE CATHERINE MERRIMAN DECKERVILLE Myrtle Catherine Merriman, age 88, of Deckerville, died Sunday, January 4, 2009 in Autumnwood of Deckerville. She was born December 5, 1919 in Harbor Beach, the daughter of the late Maxwell and Grace (See) Powers. Her family moved to McGregor, MI., and ran the Powers Hardware Store for many years. She graduated from Deckerville High School in 1938. She then attended the Business College of Port Huron. On February 1, 1941 she married Frank Merriman in Deckerville. Together they operated a Holstein dairy farm in Deckerville on land where Frank was born. Their farm was designated a centennial farm in 1992. Myrtle and Frank were married 66 years. He preceded her in death on October 20, 2007. Myrtle was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Deckerville, and a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, computers, and especially being the family historian and corresponding with many friendsand extended family members throughout the years. She mastered the computer at age 82 and was an avid e-mailer. Her kindness, cards, and generosity touched everyone she met. Myrtle's cooking was legendary, especially her pies. She and her husband took in family, friends, and exchange students over the years. She was much loved by all and will be very much missed. Myrtle is survived by her only child; Phillip, his wife; Diane (Burns Cameron) and her step-grandson; Scott T. Cameron. Also, surviving are her sisters-in-law; Ida Merriman Wagner and Margaret Sweet Merriman, her brother-in-law; Willis "Bill" (Ilene) Merriman and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers; Max Powers Jr., and Ronald Powers. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Myrtle C. Mae E. Illeck, age 92, of Tecumseh passed away Jan. 6, 2009, at the Napoleon, Ohio, Lutheran Nursing Home. Mae was born Aug. 3, 1916, in Milton, Pa., the daughter of Raymond and Minnie (Kerr) Weikel. On Jan. 15, 1948, she married Stephan Illeck in Milton, Pa. He preceded her in death Sept. 29, 1980. She was a  graduate of Milton High School, Bloomsberg State Teachers College, Bloomsberg, Pa., and  Siena Heights University with her Masters and Specialist Degrees. She was a lifelong educator starting in a one-room schoolhouse in rural Milton, Pa., to Eschwege, Germany, where she was a principal/teacher to children of the U.S. Army. She retired from the Tecumseh Public Schools after 37 years of service.  Mae was a charter member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Tecumseh, serving as the first organist and choir director. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, Tecumseh Business and Professional Women, Tecumseh Monday Club, Tecumseh Music Club, Lenawee County Retired Teacher Association and the 3 L’s at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.  Mae is survived by one daughter, Suzanne (Philip) McCartney of Bryan, Ohio; one son, Gregory (Lynn) Illeck of Anderson, S.C.; four grandchildren, Christopher McCartney, Michelle (Timothy) Umbaugh, Steven and Shawn Illeck, and great-grandson, Eli Umbaugh. Besides her husband, Stephan, she was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Gladys. She was born Marie Frances Tucker on May 3, 1926 in Goodland Township to Arlington and Alta Tucker. She married Howard William Dahn August 1, 1959 in Capac. Marie grew up in the Imlay City area and graduated from Imlay City High School Class of 1944. She has lived in Utica since the early 1960's. Marie received her B.A. Degree from Western Michigan University and her Masters Degree and Specialist Degree from the University of Michigan. Marie was a Founding member of Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Teachers Sorority. She was a Special Education Teacher in Capac. Mrs. Mary Sarna, 87, of Westover, Md. and formerly of Bad Axe, passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 under hospice care with her daughters at her side., Mary was born March 22, 1921 in Detroit, daughter of the late John and Rose Pleciak., She married Frank Sarna Aug. 2, 1941 at. St. Cunegunda's in Detroit. He preceded her in death May 7, 1992., Mary lived in Bad Axe from 1986 to 2000 when she moved to Westover, Md. She was a former parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and organized the annual fall craft show. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Seniors. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and baking the best pies in town. In Maryland, she was known as the "pie lady" where she took her baked goods to the farmer's market., Mary is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Marilyn White of Shelby Township, Mrs. Tom (Maryanne) White of Fort Mill, S.C., and Mrs. Grant (Rosemarie) Bryant of Westover, Md.; six grandchildren, Kristina (David) Kloc, Thomas (Amy) White II, Kerry White and special friend, Ashford Harrigan, Kelly (Mark) Kessen, Jerry (Susan) White, and Theresa (Jeff) Waldron; and eight great-grandchildren, Alexa, Kurt and Brooke Kessen, Matthew, Emily and Jack Kloc, Emma and Julia White, and soon-to-be-born Bryce Waldron., Mary was preceded in death by one son, Jerome; and one son-in-law, Richard White., Cremation has taken place in Maryland. He was born Feb. 6, 1992, in Sturgis, Mich., a son of Jamie and Shawna (Crapo) Lung. Michael had resided in the Burr Oak and Bronson area his whole life. He was currently a member of the Junior Class at Burr Oak High School where he was very active in athletics, participating in basketball, football, baseball, wrestling, and soccer. He loved reading and playing and working with computers. At the age of five years old Michael built his first computer. He enjoyed playing video games, especially adventure and sporting games. Michael had many interests, involvements and hobbies but what meant the most to him and what he truly loved was hanging out with his many, many friends. Mildred Lois Renner, 84, of Ligonier, Ind., passed away at 10:10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at the Life Care Center in LaGrange.  She was born June 23, 1924, in Noble County to Carl and Nellie (Barkley) Schlemmer.  On March 21, 1948, she married Harold O. Renner at the Burr Oak Church outside of Ligonier. Mr. Renner passed away on April 3, 1977.  Mrs. Renner was the Ligonier City Clerk for 12 years and worked at the Ligonier Library for many years. She was the bookkeeper for her husband's business, H.O. Renner Well Drilling and Renner Sanitation Service, both of Ligonier.  A graduate of the International Business College of Ft. Wayne and the Dayton Business College, she also was known to be a excellent seamstress and enjoyed golfing, walking and keeping busy with projects around her home.  Surviving are: a son and his wife, Warren "Todd" and Marie Renner of Ligonier; a daughter and her husband, Joanne "Jody" and Myron Whitcomb of Sturgis, Mich.; four grandchildren, Christopher Yeager, Gabriel and Susie Renner, Mandy and David Maxwell and Jennifer Stewart; five great-grandchildren;a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Helen Schlemmer of Ligonier; and two sisters, Nina Case of Ligonier and Lila Barkley of Alameda, Calif.  She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; two brothers, Richard Schlemmer and Ted Schlemmer; and two sisters, Esther Faye Fisel and Carol Duesler.  Memorial visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday  at the Ulrey - Renner and Brazzell Funeral Home in Ligonier. Robert G. Summerskill Sr., 71 of Reading, passed away Sunday Dec. 28, 2008, in Avon Park, Fla. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on Sept. 23, 1937, to Mary Jo and George Summerskill. Bob was employed at L.O.F. for 32 years retiring in 1990. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a very active member of the American Legion Post 360 in Reading and a 32nd Degree Mason. He loved hunting and fishing and spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 22 years Nancy (Kruse) Summerskill, his parents and brother Richard Summerskill. Ruth Marie Gove, 91, of Tecumseh passed away Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at her home surrounded by her family. Ruth was born at home in Tipton, Mich., the daughter of Gustave and Esther (Armstrong) Wellnitz, on Nov. 5, 1917. She married Gordon Gove April 20, 1940, who preceded her in death July 5, 1987. Ruth was well known for her solos she sang in many churches for weddings and services. She was a beauty operator in Addison from 1938 to 1940. Ruth also owned and operated Wayside Beauty Shop in Tecumseh and Clinton, retiring in September, 1978.  She was a member of Riverbend Friends Church, Tecumseh, where she was a past Sunday School Teacher.  Ruth is survived by a son, Paul (Sally) Gove of Gettysburg, Pa., and a daughter, Beth Gove of Hillsdale; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Leola, two brothers and a sister.  According to her wishes, her remains were donated to the University of Michigan Medical School. Stephen L. Bilby, 58, of North Adams, passed away Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at the Hillsdale Community Health Center.  He was born April 21, 1950, in Hillsdale to Harold and Erma (Gamber) Bilby. He was married Nov. 22, 1975 to Linda Northrup and she survives. Steve was a former employee of Hillsdale Tool, retiring in 2005.  He was a graduate of Hillsdale High School in 1969 and resident of this area all his life. Surviving besides his wife Linda, are three daughters, Jane (Tim) Russell of North Adams, Jennifer (Steve) Smith of Coldwater and Crystal Bilby of North Adams; a son, Joe (Becky) Bilby of Orange City, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; three sisters, Sharon (Wendell) Lee of Lake Placid, Fla., Sally (Leon) Rogers of Hillsdale and Sandy (Stan) Burger of Alabama. Wilhelmina Doris (Travelbee) VanNuys, 92, of Coldwater, went to be with our Lord on Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, after a short illness. She had been a resident of Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility for three years. She was born Aug. 25, 1916 in Clayton to Fred and Doris (Larrabee) Kohler. She married Robert Karl Travelbee on Oct. 24, 1936. He preceded her in death. She married Donald G. VanNuys on Feb. 21, 1970. He also preceded her in death. Wilhelmina retired from the Coldwater Regional Center in 1978. She enjoyed fishing, crocheting, knitting and doll collecting. She took great joy in raising dogs throughout the years. She is survived by sons Robert and Cora Travelbee of Coldwater, Rolland and Ellen Travelbee of Coldwater, Rodney and Georgia Travelbee of Union City, Roger and Debbie Travelbee of Coldwater and Randy and Karen Travelbee of Columbus, Ind.; daughter Echo Stump and Alfonso Rios of Coldwater; 38 grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, and sisters Myrna Kruse and Lucy Tucker. DE BRUYN, William Jr. Of Kalamazoo On Tuesday, January 6, 2009, Bill was transitioned from this life to live eternally with his Heavenly Father and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born February 26, 1930 in Kalamazoo, to William Sr. and Nellie (Hoogenboom) De Bruyn. He graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, from 1951-1952. He retired from Precision Heat Treating Company. Bill was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church. On June 27, 1958 he was united in marriage to Karen Ritsema, who preceded him in death in December of 2007. He has two children, one daughter and one son, Crystal "June" (Curtis) Bassler and Ross De Bruyn; four grandchildren, Justin Bassler, Josh Bassler, Katelynn De Bruyn and Amanda De Bruyn; one brother, Jerry De Bruyn and one sister-in-law, Janice De Bruyn; two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Evelyn (Donald) Musselman and Joyce (Boyd) Slocum; and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brother, Robert De Bruyn in October 2007. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 11:00 AM from the Second Christian Reformed Church, 3015 Nichols Road with Rev. Dr. Warren Lammers, officiating. Bill had worked for Gainey Transport as a truck driver for 15 and a half years. He also had worked at The Bucket as a bartender for nine years. Bill enjoyed fishing with Pastor Dan. Winifred Van Kampen, age 79, of Holland, died Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at Holland Hospital.  She was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, in 2006.  She is survived by her children, John and Yvonne Van Kampen of Holland, Ruth and John Grasman of Byron Center, Russell and Ann Van Kampen of Holland; six grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Marie Timmer of Holland, Gertrude Timmer of Holland, Henrietta Timmer of Holland, Mrs. Roger (Esther) Koning of Hudsonville, Millie and Bruce Bartels of Zeeland; brothers and sisters-in-law, Peter and Almadean Van Kampen of Holland, Alma and Raymond Tubergen of Zeeland, Wilma and Ivan Johnson of Hamilton, Mrs. Gerrit (June) Van Kampen of Holland; several nephews nieces and cousins.  Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 9, 2009 at Calvin Christian Reformed Church, 387 West Lakewood Blvd. in Holland.  Reverend Randy Ledeboer will be officiating.  Burial will be in North Holland Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Lakeshore Memorial Services, 11939 James Street in Holland.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Society.
