Editorial: Snow removal impacts schools

Thursday, January 22, 2009 9:39 PM - GateHouse Media, Inc.

Hillsdale County’s Road Commission is between a rock and a hard place. Repeated assaults of winter weather are using up funds for snow clearing. The commission is using less salt in the salt-sand mix and concentrating what it has on intersections, curves and hills. Communities with their own plowing and salting are in similar straits. Hillsdale County’s school districts are between a rock and a hard place. Repeated assaults of winter weather and decreased snow clearing are responsible for more cancelled school days than usual.
