DUKES AURORA PHYLLIS |
died at the age of 70, on March 4th, at her home on Mullett Lake, in Mullett Township, Cheboygan County, Michigan. She is survived by: her loving husband of 53 years, Dennis Arthur Dukes; and two children, Lucinda (Cindy) Marie Dukes-Clarey and Bernard Dennis Dukes. She is also survived by three siblings; Floyd Wellwood Scrase and wife Diana Scrase including their children, Nadine and Danielle; Marie Frank, and her husband John Frank including their children, Alexis, Benjamin, and Nicholas; and Jeffrey Owen Scrase, and wife Carol. Aurora was a loving mother and homemaker, with multiple talents including a love of music and literature, architecture and design, as well as gardening and horticulture. This was apparent in the designing and construction of a beautiful home, on Mullett Lake, which stands as a monument to her, as well as the complete redesign of their winter home in Pompano Beach, Florida. Her expertise in business and finance became clear as she took over the reigns of the family business, after the retirement of her husband. She also had a love of travel and yachting, for which her expert skills in planning and marine navigation proved critical. Born in Detroit, Michigan on the 28th of May, 1938, to Floyd Wellwood Scrase and Ethel Harma-Scrase, she attended Redford High School, where she and her husband met. After marring, she lived for some time in Detroit and Lima, Ohio, before moving to Livonia, Michigan. There she remained for ten years before moving her family to Vero Beach, Florida. Two years later, she and her family returned to Michigan, where she lived for several years, with her husband, in Hamburg. Having been summer residents, at their home on Mullett Lake, since 1966, they decided, in 1996, to make it their permanent residence. Aurora was fortunate to have her family, as well as, her friend and care giver, Mary-Helen Schmidt close at her side when she passed, in the privacy of her own home. A memorial service will be held in May, on or around her birthday. For more information please send email to bdd08e@gmail.com. Rather than sending flowers, please consider a contribution to the Cheboygan County Humane Society. All who remember her can recall her dignified elegance, tempered with modesty and genuine compassion. She impacted the lives of countless people, who benefited from her wisdom, her fun loving spirit, and her generosity. She will be sorely missed by all, and her absence will be felt deeply for many years to come. Lintz Funeral Home in Indian River assisted the family with arrangements. |
