Albert Hudson

HUDSON, Albert A. Jr. "Buz" - Age 61, of Grand Blanc, passed away Saturday, March 14 at home, surrounded by the family he loved. Al was born August 8, 1947 in Durand, son of Albert and Ruby (Vogt) Hudson. He graduated from Durand High School in 1965 and went to serve his country in the U.S. Army, during Vietnam. Al retired from General Motors in 1995, so that he could continue teaching his children and grandchildren the joys of childhood, and that we should never lose that joy. He was always the best of friends, willing to lend a hand. Besides spending time with his family and many friends, Al enjoyed coaching his daughter's little league teams, hunting, fishing and sports of all kinds, and his excitement in these events was contagious. He loved the outdoors, and summer camping trips were always a special event, packed full of fun. He was a member of the Linden Sportsman Club and Eagles #629. He is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Michael Hudson, Traci (Pat) Lee, Adrienne (Brian) Randolph, Elizabeth (Jim) VanConant; stepchildren, Melinda (Ryan) Smith, Julie (Ken) Howard; 11 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by sister, Cindy Gotham; sister-in-law, Debbie (Neil) Randall; brother-in-law, Mike Klette; nieces, nephews and many, many wonderful friends. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Kristine; brother-in-law, Tom Gotham, as well as the other family and friends that went before him. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad St., Linden. Visitation will be held 5-9 PM Tuesday. Arnold Lee Wampler was born August 18, 1943 in Lenoir City, Tennessee the son of Arnold Junior and Bertha Mae (Foister) Wampler. At the age of eight the Wamplers moved to Michigan where Arnold attended Monroe Public Schools.

Austin Rogers 1918 - 2009 Austin Rogers, 90, Pigeon, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2009, at Home Sweet Home in Pigeon. He was born in Bad Axe on June 11, 1918, son of the late Sterling and Katherine (Koch) Rogers. Austin served 1942-1946 with the United States Army in Portugal during World War II. On October 30, 1957 he was united in marriage to Florence Edna Limberger in Barton City. She preceded him in death on February 6, 2000. Austin retired in 1977 from the A&P grocery store near Livonia. He and Florence moved to the Pigeon area in 1978, where he was a faithful member of the Salem United Methodist Church. Austin loved his church and being with his church family, and often served as greeter and usher. He enjoyed yard work and was a hobby gardener, growing things that others could not. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by a sister, Dorothy McGregor and a brother, Donald Rogers, both of the Glennie area; a sister-in-law, Donna Limberger,Pigeon and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Rogers and Roy Rogers and a brother-in-law, Ralph Limberger. Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at the Salem United Methodist Church, Pigeon. Rev. Michael T. Sawicki, pastor, officiated, with burial taking place in Grandlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Salem United Methodist Church Building Fund. Arrangements were handled by Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, Pigeon.

BEATRICE E. ROSS MARLETTE Beatrice E. Ross, age 88, of Marlette died Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Gratiot Medical Center in Alma. Beatrice has lived in Marlette since 1942 and was previously from Girard, Michigan area. She was born February 10, 1921 in Coldwater, Michigan, daughter to the late Roland and Dorothy (Youse) Wagoner. She graduated from Cold- water High School in 1937 and W.M.U. in 1942 with her Teaching degree. Beatrice married Morris C. Ross on June 19, 1943 in Girard, Michigan, he has preceded her in death, January 17, 1993. Beatrice taught English and was the Librarian in Marlette High School for many years and also taught at Brown City High School. She was a member of the Marlette First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, G.F.W.C. and Eastern Star's in Marlette. After her retirement from teaching she tutored many students in the area. She is survived by two sons; Bill (Lynn) Ross of Cadillac, Jim (Doreen) Ross of Marlette, one daughter; Moreen Greenlick of Grand Blanc, two brothers; Max (Jean) Wagoner of Kentucky, Barry (Mary) Wagoner of Whitemore Lake, one son-in-law; Rocco Tenaglia of Lapeer, special friend & relative; Maxine Ganyard of Albuquerque, NM, 7 grandchildren; Scott Franzel, Todd Franzel, Ben Ross, Christen Ross, David Ross, Nicholas Ross and Andrew Ross, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter; Janet Tenaglia, infant daughter; Christina Ross, son-in-law; James Greenlick and sister; Helen Jane Matthews. Funeral services were held at the Marlette First United Methodist Church with Rev. Daniel Bowman officiating. Burial was in the Marlette Cemetery. Blaine B. Ash, age 86, of Saugatuck, died Friday, March 13, 2009, in a local nursing home. Blaine was born the son of Boyd T. and Wanda Ash in Pullman, WV, in September of 1922.  He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a long time maintenance man at H.J. Heinz in Holland. He was preceded in death by son, Richard Paul Ash; and brothers and sisters, Arlene Dooly, Hilda Durbana, Jo Simmons, and Anita League. His family includes wife, Evelyn Ash; son, George and Barb Ash; daughter, Crystal Ash; four grandchildren, Tim, David, Andy, and Shiela; and one great-grandson, Gabe Reslock; brothers and sisters, Leta Bennett, Nellie Kimber, John Ash, Frankie Zwiers, Dan Ash, Tom Ash, Glada Cox; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Cremation has taken place and no services are scheduled.  The family will have a memorial lunch at a later date. Charles Joseph “Chuck” Salek, age 76, of Bronson, Mich., died peacefully in the early morning hours Thursday, March 12, 2009, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born Aug. 24, 1932, in Berwyn, Ill., a son of Charles and Florence (Denk) Salek.  His family moved from the Chicago area to Constantine, Michigan during the 1940s. Chuck graduated from Constantine High School in 1950. He then served four years in the U.S. Navy, where he participated in boxing, underwater welding and demolition. He served in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1955 as a 3rd class metalsmith. Charles married Julie Ann Leppich on Jan. 21, 1956, in Bronson. He is survived by Julie,  his wife of 53 years; his son and daughter-in-law, Charles “Chick” and Deb Salek of Bronson,  daughter Loraine Painter of Bronson, daughters and sons-in-law Diane and John Baker of Bronson, Kara and Charles Hieber of Manchester and Jacqueline and Joseph Hensell of Battle Creek; and 11 grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his son, Kurt Salek; his two sisters, Joan and Grace; and his parents. Chuck’s hobbies included drag racing, hot rodding and tuning cars in the 1960s. He was employed as a five color lithographer for National Carbon Coated; he was a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service, spotted trailers for Associated Truck Lines and in general was a “jack of all trades.” He retired in the 1980s in order to farm full-time, and he had a love for his animals and hunted the land he farmed.  He was a member of the Teamsters Union, the Elks and the American Legion. Charles truly enjoyed life and included his children in all his hobbies and activities.  Through his example and guidance, he taught his family many life lessons. At the request of his family, memories and stories can be shared from 2-6 p.m. Saturday and 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson, where the Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday.  Memorial donations are suggested to the Bronson Post 259, American Legion. The funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church in Bronson, with the Rev. Fr. Richard A. Fritz officiating. Interment will follow in Matteson Township Cemetery.

Surviving besides her husband Gary are two daughters, Marie Carter Gomez of Archbold, Ohio and Leslie (Milton) Hoffman of Addison; a son, Raymond Irizarry of Findlay, Ohio; 18 brothers and sisters; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Connie was also preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers. Funeral services for Connie C. Paxson will be at 2 p.m. today at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with the Rev. She has lived in the Flint area most of her life. She had been a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Dory enjoyed crocheting and was an avid reader. She also loved the out-of-doors and nature. Surviving are her husband, Leonard; three children, Ricky Lamb and fiancee Sarah, Christina Lamb and fiance Ryan and William "Billy" Lamb. Also surviving are her father, David Haeger and wife Marty; three sisters, Denise, Diane, Dawn; a brother, David; along with several nieces, nephews; a sister-in-law, Donna Meyer and husband Robert; brothers-in-law, Donald Hale and wife Kathleen, and David Hale. Freddie L.  Rinehart, age 58, of Bronson, died Thursday morning, March 12, 2009 at his home after suffering an apparent heart attack. He was born Aug. 11, 1950 in Coldwater, son of Floyd and Mary (Lane) Rinehart and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Bronson High School in 1969, where he was a member of the FFA. He married Esther Metzger on Sept. 25, 1976 at Pleasant Hill. They divorced in June 2001. Freddie worked at Grumman-Olson in Sturgis for 18 years and has been on disability for the past ten years. He was a member of the North American Hunting Club and enjoyed arrowhead hunting, collecting different collections and anything out of doors. He was an American History buff, specializing in Civil War information and also the American Presidents. Surviving are his sons Kenneth Rinehart of Burr Oak, William Rinehart of Bronson, Jerry Rinehart of Bronson and son and daughter-in-law Don and April Rinehart of Burr Oak; four grandchildren; his mother Mary Rinehart of Bronson; his sisters Becky Wood and Rose Jordan, both of Bronson; his brothers Russell Rinehart of Howe, Ind., Floyd “Chip” Rinehart of North Carolina, Dave Rinehart and Dan Rinehart, both of Bronson and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Rinehart, his father Floyd Rinehart and his nephew Thomas Wood. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Pleasant Hill Missionary Church in Bronson with Rev. Paul Metzger and Rev. Dwight Metzger officiating. He was preceded in death by his father in 1987; his mother in 2001; his sister, Nancy Myers in 2008; and one son-in-law, Tim Beem in 2008. Mr. Graham retired in 2004 from American Tooling in Grass Lake and he was a member of the U.A.W. A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Frederick R. “Fred” Graham will be held at the Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home in Hillsdale at 1 p.m. Tuesday with Pastor John Lillie officiating. Gary Lee Kubasiak, 62, of Battle Creek, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Jan. 14, 1947 in Battle Creek, the son of the late Peter and Berneita (Asplin) Kubasiak. Gary graduated from Lakeview High School in 1965, and was a Vietnam War veteran, having served in the Army from 1966-72. He worked at Coles Clothing Store from 1963-77, and was a produce manager at Kroger from 1969-77. He then moved to Alabama to work for Independent Retailers. He returned to Battle Creek in 1985 to work for Meijer, Inc. as a manager, where he remained until July 2008. He was very much loved and respected at work. Marriages to Margaret Baker and Sue Miller ended in divorce. On Oct. 29, 1999, he married Judy Kerr Paton, and she survives. Gary is survived by his loving wife Judy Kubasiak; children Tina (Kyle) Harrison of Albany, Ga., and Paula Clark and Christina and Thomas Kubasiak, all of Battle Creek; step-children Heather Haskins of Grand Haven and William Paton V of Delton; three grandchildren Lexie and Kevin Harrison and Gunnar Clark; four step-grandchildren Christopher, Caitlin, Courtney and Nicholas Haskins; sister Barbara (Dick) Willbrandt of Marshall; and brothers Gene (Maria) Kubasiak of Columbus, Ohio, Chuck (Julie) Kubasiak of Bellevue and John (Annie) Kubasiak of Ravenna. Gary was a very loving husband, father, “papa” and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He loved spending time at his summer home at Waffle Farm Campground in Coldwater, fishing for bass and bluegill, and having friends over for cookouts. He was loved by all that knew him, especially by his wife and family. He will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., with the Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 18 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, with The Rev. He was born September 7, 1935 in Harbor Beach to the late Bruno and Julia (Woychowski) Gornowich. Jerry was a Master Plumber for many years and owned his own business, which was started by his father. He was a Life Member of the Harbor Beach Gun Club, was on baseball teams for many years as well as many bowling teams. He loved his dogs and pheasant hunting. He never missed an opening day of pheasant hunting. Gerald Anthony “Jerry” Kaluzny, age 79 of Mendon, died Friday, March 13, 2009, at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo.  He was born in Detroit on Aug. 5, 1929, the son of the late Albert and Mary (Fary) Kalauzny and attended schools in the Detroit area. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He then married Jeanette Poteau on Nov. 25, 1954 in Wayne, Mich.  Jeanette died in 2007. Jerry owned and operated Jerry’s Marathon in Plymouth before going to work for Bendix Aerospace.  He worked as a mechanic for Ford Motor Company for 20 years, retiring to Mendon in 1990.  In his spare time, Jerry enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Following his retirement, he enjoyed yard work, landscaping, and bird watching.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.  Jerry was a member of the Mendon Kiwanis Club and St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon. Jerry is survived by three children, Tami Kaluzny of Mendon, Brian Kaluzny (Margaret) and Nadine Baker (Glenn), all of Mattawan;  six grandchildren, Rachael, Carolyn, and Karl Kaluzny, and Janell, Abbie, and Ben Baker;  one sister, Dolores Larson (Norman) of Wayne; two nieces and two nephews.  The family will receive friends from 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. There will be a Scripture Service at held 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.  The Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon with Rev. She was born December 2, 1924 in Fairhaven Twp., daughter of the late Vernon and Sophia (Kuhl) Quick. She was united in marriage to Raymond F. Krauss on August 28, 1986. He preceded her in death on December 28, 1994. Helen was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kilmanagh. She was also a member of the Unionville-Sebewaing Area Senior citizens group, enjoyed flowers, gardening and needlepoint. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed the Detroit Tigers. He was married to Fern Eva Roe on July 3, 1941. She preceded him in death in 1987. He married Annie Mae Radu VanLoon in May 1988 and she preceded him in death in 2005. Jack had been employed by Central Transport, retiring on April 27, 1985. He was an avid golfer and played softball as a young man. Jack is survived by two daughters, Sherry VanLoon and her husband, Elwood, of Brooklyn, Mich., and Jacqueline Lloyd of Adrian; two brothers, William Maloney of California and Donald Maloney and his wife, Carol, of California; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to his first wife, Fern, and his second wife, Annie, he was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, two brothers and a grandson. James Stevens Staten, 47, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2009, in Hillsdale.  Steven (affectionately known as “BLUE” to his friends and family) was born April 29, 1961 in Coldwater to Donald and Clara (Phyllis Stevens) Staten.  He was a 1979 graduate of Litchfield High School and a 20+ year employee at DCA Food Industries (Stock’s Mill) facility.  After closure of the Hillsdale manufacturing facility, he became an over-the-road long haul semi driver.  Steven was a lifelong resident of the southern Michigan area where he was an avid sportsman, his favorites being coon and deer hunting. Steve is survived by his parents Clara Iles of Litchfield and Donald (Phyllis) Staten of Springport; one sister, Deborah (Donald) Campbell of Galion, Ohio; two brothers, Aaron (Lisa) Staten of Litchfield and Barron (Carolyn) Staten of Indianapolis, Ind.; one niece, Kathryn (Matthew) Campbell-Thomas of Homer; five nephews, Kyle (Lacey) Campbell of Homer, Christopher and Nicholas Staten of Jonesville, Nathaniel Staten of Albion and Bradley Chapman of Quincy. Leland Irving Klatt, age 89, of Clayton passed away March 9, 2009. Leland was born May 16, 1919, in Sylvania, Ohio, the son of Ernest and Tessie (VanDoren) Klatt. On Feb. 19, 1944, he married Carmella Viola Galici in Detroit, Mich. She preceded him in death April 25, 2003. In his early years he farmed with his grandfather. He then worked in the tool and die industry for 30 years. After leaving the tool and die profession, he and Carmella became self employed in the coal business, landscaping, weed cutting, Adrian Sod Farm and the Adrian Peat Moss Farm. He was a writer of poetry and belonged to the Library of Poets in Washington, D.C. He was a devoted believer in Christ and his principles.   Leland is survived by his children, Daniel and Deborah (Fred) Sisty; grandchildren, Anthony, Andrew, Adam, Aaron, Aric, and Alan Jeffrey; great-grandchildren, Alyson, Dominic, Braydon and Lexi; and step-sister, Dorothy. Besides his wife, Carmella, Leland was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Glenn. Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2009, at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with his son Daniel officiating. Survivors include three daughters, Kathy (Aaron) McDonald of Quincy, Camille Sargent and her fiance, Timothy Yates of Galion, Ohio; two sons, Brian (Jessica) Sargent of Galion, Michael (Deanna) Taylor of Bucyrus, Ohio; two sisters, Brenda (Kenneth) Westfall of Lafayette, Ore., Elaine Forrence of Nashua, N.H.; former wife, Arnella Thompson of Mansfield, Ohio; and 17 grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Melissa. Lyell Alvin Wagenveld, age 95, of Holland went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday March 14, 2009 at Oak Crest Manor of Holland. Lyell was born the son of Frank and Blanche Wagenveld August 21, 1913 in Hull, North Dakota.  Lyell moved with his family to Holland Michigan in his late teenage years.  He attended Hope College for one year.  He was employed by the United States Postal office, and was the oldest retired postal worker in Michigan.  He was a long time resident of Waukazoo Woods. He was a long time member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Holland.     He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years Blanche (Van Slooten) Wagenveld in 1978, and daughter Dolores Kamphuis 1991. His family includes: daughter Charlotte and Ted Kruithoff of Holland; son Wayne and Kathy Wagenveld of Grand Rapids; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Marsha and Ken Mokma, brother-in-laws Lloyd and Lois Van Slooten, sister-in-law Amy Van Slooten;  and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A lifelong member of The Community of Church Christ, Beth lived her faith by example and through her kind and generous spirit. She loved her family, friends, art and learning. Mart was united in marriage on September 14, 1938 to the former Frances DeWolf, who survives. Mart was a longtime member of Third Reformed Church where he served as Elder, Deacon and with the yard and grounds maintenance crew. He was employed with Miller Lumber Company, retiring in 1981 after 47 years of service. He then worked at Longjohn Florist for ten years, making deliveries. Also surviving Mart are his children, Carl (Janet) Bussema of Kalamazoo, John (Diane) Bussema of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, Mark (Erin) Bussema, Kimberly (Scott) Muller, Tonya (Dr. Chris) Bussema and Sara (Josh) Teitelman; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was a former parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and organized the annual fall craft show. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Seniors. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and baking the best pies in town. Peter B. Schlaud Jr. 1938-2009 Peter B. Schlaud Jr., 71, Bad Axe, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2009 at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. He was born on February 16, 1938 in North Branch, son of the late Peter and Stella (Young) Schlaud Sr. Pete graduated from North Branch High School in 1956. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany as a Military Policeman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, country music, playing cards and eating at Big Boy. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Pete worked at Marlette Coach in Marlette after coming home from the the Army, until the factory closed and he moved to Louisiana where he was the head maintenance man in a hospital. When the hurricane hit in 2005, he lost everything and moved to Bad Axe and lived with his sister and brother-in-law, John and Rita Guigar. He is survived by adopted son, Richard Schlaud, Kingston; foster daughter, Jeanette (Ron) Yaroch, Marlette; sister, Rita (John) Guigar, Bad Axe; brother, Charlie(Sandy) Schlaud, Marlette and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Schlaud. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Fr. Rob Howe, pastor, will officiate. Interment will take place in North Branch. Phyllis was a lifelong resident of Branch County. She worked in food service for many years at the former Coldwater Regional Center and the prison, retiring in 1985. After retiring, Phyllis worked at the Narrows Restaurant with her son Jim, and also at the Coldwater Stockyards. She attended the Quincy Union Church and was a life member of the Coldwater Moose Lodge, the Coldwater Eagles and a member of the Quincy American Legion. Phyllis enjoyed dancing, collecting butterflies, crocheting, crossword puzzles, reading and bowling on a league for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially with her grand and great grandchildren. Phyllis is survived by her son Jim Dove of Coldwater, her daughters Connie and Joe Balowski of Lake, Cindy Peavey of Battle Creek, Janene Dove and Mark Zimmerman of Quincy, her mother Eileen Clark of Coldwater, her brother Robert Rippie of Flint, her sister Geraldine and Raymond Peasley of Manistee, 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Robert Alvin Yesh, age 81, of Bronson, Mich., died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, March 13, 2009, at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall,  following a lengthy illness. Bob was born Nov. 13, 1927, in Coldwater, son of Frank and Elizabeth (Stefanski) Yesh and was a lifelong Bronson resident. He married Jean Beverly Hungerford on Dec. 6, 1955, in South Bend, Ind.  Jean Beverly died Dec.  14, 2001. After graduation from Bronson High School, Bob joined the U.S. Army during World War II.  After the war, he worked at the former Douglas Components Company in Bronson, then drove truck.  Having an interest in law enforcement, he became a Bronson Police Officer in 1956. He went on to join the Branch County Sheriff’s Department, where he rose to the rank of sergeant and served for more than 20 years. After his retirement, he returned to the Bronson Police Department, from where he retired after a combined 30 years in law enforcement. He then took up farming full time. Bob was an avid hunter, especially looking forward to the opening day of firearms deer season.  He was a member of the NRA and actively engaged in the shooting sports and was known for his accuracy skills. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church. Surviving are his daughter Susan Stansberry of Battle Creek; his son and daughter-in-law, Rex and Debra Yesh of Eat Leroy; stepsons., Dennis (Patty) Marks of Hobe Sound, Fla., and Don (Joanne) Marks of Coldwater; stepdaughters Joyce (Milt) McNitt of Coldwater and Brenda (Jim) Wilhelm of Huntington, Ind.; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Jean Beverly, his wife of 46 years; his stepson, Jim Marks; and his brother Francis Yesh. The funeral liturgy celebrating the life of Robert A. Yesh will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church in Bronson, with the Rev. Fr. Brian Stanley officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Prayers before Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson. Also surviving are three sons, Michael (Christy) Grimm, Waldron, William (Jodi) Grimm, Bryan and Stanley (Kris) Grimm, Alvordton; one brother, Keith (Donna) Grimm, Sherwood, Ohio; four grandchildren, Allison and Aaron Grimm, Waldron and Tiffanie and Bradley Grimm, Bryan and one sister-in-law, Jessie Grimm, Pioneer. Shirley Jean Phalen, age 74, of Adrian, died Friday March 13, 2009, at Bixby Medical Center. She was born Feb. 9, 1935, in Grand Ledge, Mich., to George and Amelia (Hagen) VanCamp, Sr.  On May 13, 1972, she married Roger Phalen in Tecumseh and he survives. Shirley was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Tecumseh, and the Adrian Moose Ladies Auxiliary #892. She loved to golf. In addition to her husband, Roger, she is survived by a sister, Marilyn Haddrell and her husband, Jim, of Langeburg, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Jackie VanCamp of Tecumseh; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Don and George VanCamp. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church later in the spring. Yaster, 75, of Interlochen, went to be with his Lord, whom he loved and served so well, on Sunday afternoon, March 15, 2009, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.Born Jan. 20, 1934, in Mt. Morris, he was the son of the late Herman J. and Effie I. (Woodbeck) Yaster. On Oct. 19, 1960, in Byron, he married the former Charlene Hayton.He proudly served with the United States Army and was honorably discharged in August of 1962.As his hobbies, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.He worked for Paul Garthe for 18 years as an appliance technician, and later for Wal-Mart.He was a longtime member of Interlochen Bible Church.Clayton is survived by his loving wife, Charlene Yaster of Interlochen; son, Stephen Yaster of Adrian; daughter, Debi Helm of Downers Grove, Ill.; 11 grandchildren, Randy, Melissa, Tyler, Taylor, Trent, Shelby, Stephen, Ross, Jessica, Beau Koleno and Bailey Helm; brother, Elwyn Yaster of Alpena; many nieces and nephews; and his extended family at Interlochen Bible Church and Immanuel Baptist Church.In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Doreen, and a brother, Ellis.Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 19, at Interlochen Bible Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Virginia J. Reaume, 83, of Newport, died at 7:55 p.m. Friday at Mercy Memorial Hospital of Monroe. She had been in poor health for one month.


 


 

Virginia Schave 1929-2009 Virginia Schave, 79, Westland, formerly of Port Hope, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2009 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Livonia She was born on August 30, 1929 in Alabaster, to the late Harlan and Emma (Graf) Brown. Virginia and Wallace Schave were united in marriage on December 6, 1947. She loved to shop and always made sure that the house was kept clean. She loved her family and was a good Christian with strong faith. She is survived by her husband Wallace, Westland; four children, Aaron Schave, Las Vegas, Nev., Ray (Gail) Schave, Westland, Lynne (Gary) Dickens, Westland and Lori (David) Parcha, Anchorage, Alaska; six grandchildren, Jason Dickens, Corey Schave, Justin Schave, Brionna Love, Aaron Parcha and Tyler Parcha; two brothers, Arnold (Elaine) Brown, Port Hope and Larry (Pat) Brown, St. Clair and sister-in-law, Arlene Brown, Port Hope. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Calvin Brown and Donald Brown. Funeral services were held Monday, March 9, 2009 in the Ramsey Funeral Home, Inc., Harbor Beach. Rev. SOPHIEA, William E. - Clarkston, MI, born January 31, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan, died at his home in Clarkston, Michigan on March 13, 2009. Bill is survived by the love of his life, Norma, who would be married 60 years this June. Together they had three children, Bill (Elise), Bob, and Sandra Sophiea-Fairmont (Scott). Bill took joy in his eight grandchildren Bob Jr., Sarah, Jennifer, Alexandra, Kristopher, William, Samantha and Jeffrey and his great grandchildren Gabriel and Jackson. Bill and Norma along with their son Bob owned and operated Big Boy Restaurants in Grand Blanc and Flint. Bill, known as "Boss" was a loving husband, devoted father and a fantastic man. His easy manner drew everyone to love and respect him. Bill was a devoted Christian who worshipped at St. George Orthodox Church. After a courageous battle with cancer, Bill died at home in peace surrounded by his loving family. Willie “Bill” G. Dumas, 88, of Goshen, died Friday, March 13, 2009, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. He had been ill the past two years. He was born Feb. 23, 1921, in Marshall County, Alabama, to William R. and Annie (Tidmore) Dumas. He married Beatrice May on June 7, 1947 in Chatsworth, Alabama. She survives. A metallurgist, Mr. Dumas worked for Dana Corporation for 23 years before retiring in 1985. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Goshen and a past member of Hillsdale American Legion. He enjoyed playing golf and shuffleboard. He was a sports fan of all sports and teams. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice; a daughter, Sheila K. (John) Dolph of Goshen; five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Patricia Dumas. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Dumas and two sisters, Frances Padgett and Maedelmas Boone. Visitation was held 4-7 p.m., Monday, March 16 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. Funeral services are 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 17 at the funeral home. Rev. Gregg Lanzen of First Baptist Church, Goshen will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
