Albert Chodyniecki Columbiaville Albert Chodyniecki, 82, of Columbiaville for the last 34 years, passed away Monday (March 9, 2009). He was born February 17, 1927, in Windsor, Ontario, to Karol and Bertha (Ostrowski) Chodyniecki. He married Loraine Reppke on November 20, 1948 in Detroit. Mr. Chodyniecki served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He worked in the dental field in the Farmington Hills area, then retired in Lapeer. Albert had been an active member of the Knights of Columbus - Royal Oak Council. He truly enjoyed golfing, fishing (numerous times with his brothers) and gardening. He is survived by his wife, Loraine Chodyniecki of Columbiaville; daughter, Denise Chodyniecki of Columbiaville; siblings, Ben (Dorothy) Chodyniecki of Macomb Township, Carleen Ward of Waterford, Julia (Gene) Zyla of Lewiston, Carl Chodyniecki of Waterford; many nieces and nephews. HUDSON, Albert A. Jr. "Buz" - Age 61, of Grand Blanc, passed away Saturday, March 14 at home, surrounded by the family he loved. Al was born August 8, 1947 in Durand, son of Albert and Ruby (Vogt) Hudson. He graduated from Durand High School in 1965 and went to serve his country in the U.S. Army, during Vietnam. Al retired from General Motors in 1995, so that he could continue teaching his children and grandchildren the joys of childhood, and that we should never lose that joy. He was always the best of friends, willing to lend a hand. Besides spending time with his family and many friends, Al enjoyed coaching his daughter's little league teams, hunting, fishing and sports of all kinds, and his excitement in these events was contagious. He loved the outdoors, and summer camping trips were always a special event, packed full of fun. He was a member of the Linden Sportsman Club and Eagles #629. He is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Michael Hudson, Traci (Pat) Lee, Adrienne (Brian) Randolph, Elizabeth (Jim) VanConant; stepchildren, Melinda (Ryan) Smith, Julie (Ken) Howard; 11 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by sister, Cindy Gotham; sister-in-law, Debbie (Neil) Randall; brother-in-law, Mike Klette; nieces, nephews and many, many wonderful friends. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Kristine; brother-in-law, Tom Gotham, as well as the other family and friends that went before him. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad St., Linden. Visitation will be held 5-9 PM Tuesday. Annette J. Laferty, 73, of sturis, Mich., died March 16, 2009 at her home following an extended illness. She was born March 4, 1936 in Chicago, a daughter to Nicholas and Louise (Sulkowski) Sansone. Her early life was spent in Chicago and Sturgis. She was a 1953 graduate of Sturgis High School and a White Pigeon resident for 30 years. She had lived in Sturgis since 1999. She also resided in Kentucky for two years. On Feb. 6, 1965 she married Buford Laferty in Clintwood, Va. He died Dec. 7, 2000. She was employed at Trans-O-Gram in Sturgis, worked for White Pigeon Schools for 12 years in the cafeteria and as a teachers aide and worked at Miller Fuel Oil in White Pigeon. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Sturgis, the STurgis Hospital Guild and enjoyed reading. Surviving are two daughters, Laury (Gerald) Simms of St. Marys, Ga., and Vicki (Roger) Green of Pickerington, Ohio; three sons, John Bennett of Sturgis, Buford S. Laferty of Alma, Mich., and Martin S. Laferty of Constantine; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son, Melvin S. Bennett-Laferty. Visitation is from noon-2:30 p.m. Friday at the Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon. Graveside services are at 3 p.m. Friday at the White Pigeon Township Cemetery with Pastor George Cleverley of the Church of Christ of Sturgis. Betty Jean Reamsnyder, age 86, of Montpelier, Ohio, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2009, at Community Hospitals of Williams County in Bryan, Ohio. Betty worked in the Housekeeping division of the Montpelier Hospital for many years before retiring. She was a former member of the Moose Lodge in St. Petersburg, Fla. Born April 10, 1922, in Adrian, Mich., she was the daughter of Albert and Pearl (Billings) Eggleston. She married Samuel Nathan Sines in July 22, 1939, in Napoleon and he preceded her in death in October 1963. Betty later married Clifford Lee Reamsnyder on Feb. 8, 1964 in Adrian, Mich., and he preceded her in death in December 2005. Surviving are her children, Nancy and Robert Wilkerson of Adrian, Samuel and Laura “Kay” Sines of Montpelier, Ohio, Larry D. Sines I of Montpelier, Ohio, Vicki Sines-Osmun of Montpelier, Ohio and Leo and Pegge Sines of Edgerton, Ohio; 17 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. Her parents, husbands, daughter-in-law, Kathy Sines; grandson, Patrick Soto; three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Blaine B. Ash, age 86, of Saugatuck, died Friday, March 13, 2009, in a local nursing home. Blaine was born the son of Boyd T. and Wanda Ash in Pullman, WV, in September of 1922.  He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a long time maintenance man at H.J. Heinz in Holland. He was preceded in death by son, Richard Paul Ash; and brothers and sisters, Arlene Dooly, Hilda Durbana, Jo Simmons, and Anita League. His family includes wife, Evelyn Ash; son, George and Barb Ash; daughter, Crystal Ash; four grandchildren, Tim, David, Andy, and Shiela; and one great-grandson, Gabe Reslock; brothers and sisters, Leta Bennett, Nellie Kimber, John Ash, Frankie Zwiers, Dan Ash, Tom Ash, Glada Cox; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Cremation has taken place and no services are scheduled.  The family will have a memorial lunch at a later date. "JIM" Died peacefully sur rounded by family at age 91 on Friday morning, March 13, 2009 in Brookfield, WI. Jim was born in Springfield, MO the eldest of the three boys of Chester and Emma Callison. He moved with his family to Detroit in the early 1920's. He was a graduate of Pershing High School and Ford Motor Company Trade School. He married Ruth Vivian (nee Craig) in 1939 and together they had three children James, Patricia and Charles. Jim proudly served his country in the Marine Corps. He fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima and participated in the occupation of the Japanese homeland. After WWII, he joined Ford Motor Company and later Chrysler Corporation as a manufacturing specialist. Jim invented the concept of the uni-body construction and that is how all autos are now made today. He was president of the Detroit Chapter of the American Welding Society and wrote their training manuals. Jim retired from the auto industry in 1981. Jim was an artist. He specialized in stained glass, wood carving and painting. He delighted his family and friends over the years with gifts of his artwork. Jim was a member of the VFW and the United Methodist Church in Belleville, MI. He is survived by his brother, Glenn (Sally) of Somerset Center, MI, sons James (Phyllis) of Sheboygan, WI and Charles (Sue) of New Berlin, WI, son in law, Jeffrey Jahr of Belleville, MI, grandchildren Gary, Chris (Jenni), Ryan, Jeff (Rika), James, Gerald and Leah (Charlie) and numerous family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth, daughter Patricia and grandson Daniel. Paxson, 68, of Hillsdale, passed away Monday, March 9, 2009 at her home.  She was born Jan. 1, 1941 in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico to Julian and Romanita (Martinez) Torres.  She was married in 1958 to Roman Irizarry and he preceded her in death in 1986.  She was married July 6, 1983 to Gary Paxson and he survives. Surviving besides her husband Gary are two daughters, Marie Carter Gomez of Archbold, Ohio and Leslie (Milton) Hoffman of Addison; a son, Raymond Irizarry of Findlay, Ohio; 18 brothers and sisters; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Connie was also preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers. Funeral services for Connie C. Paxson will be at 2 p.m. today at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with the Rev. Dan Pann officiating.  Interment will take place at a later date.  The family will receive friends for visitation 1 p.m. today until the time of the service at the funeral home. She was born May 22, 1941 in Owendale, daughter of William and Christine (Gabriel) Elsesser. On January 20, 1961, Diane was united in marriage to Paul Lesoski at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon. They moved to Elkton from Owendale in 1965. She was a member of the St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Ubly and Elkton Senior Citizen's Club. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends, dancing and music. Diane also enjoyed relaxing in her chair and listening to the radio. She is survived by a son; Paul (Becky) Lesoski of Bad Axe, two daughters; Pamela Lesoski of Bad Axe, Pauline (Wayne) Allen of Deckerville, six grandchildren; Nathan, Kendra, Adam, Emanual, Charlene and Tiffany, two sisters; Donna Gunsell and Virginia Kaine, both of Owendale, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, two brothers; Otto Elsesser and William Elsesser and one son; Adam. In keeping with her wishes there will be no funeral or visitation at this time. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific 1945-1946. He graduated from Rockhurst College in 1950 and Georgetown University Law School in 1952. John was a Personnel Manager with Ford Motor Company for 37 years. Upon retirement he and his wife Beverly operated the Seth Pope House Bed & Breakfast in Sandwich, MA. They moved to Naples in 2000. He is survived by his loving family, Beverly O'Connell Dobel, his wife of 57 years and his sister Mary Elizabeth Dobel of Denver, CO. His children John F. David "KP" Bryce Kirkpatrick Metamora David "KP" Bryce Kirkpatrick, 56, of Metamora, passed away Monday (March 16, 2009) after a courageous 4-year battle with brain cancer. He was born October 30, 1952, in Detroit, and graduated from Southfield High School in 1970. He attended Rochester College, where he played basketball. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree at Oakland University in 1974 and began teaching that same year for Lapeer Community Schools. He earned a Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling from Oakland University and a Master's degree in Administration from Central Michigan University. He was a licensed professional counselor and spent the last portion of his nearly 32 year career as a guidance counselor at E.T. White Junior High and Lapeer West High School. Duane W. Buschlen 1933 - 2009 Duane W. Buschlen, 75, Pigeon, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at home. He was born in Pigeon on June 24, 1933, son of the late William W. and Edna C. (Gregor) Buschlen. Duane graduated from Pigeon High School in 1951, where he played football and was named all-conference halfback beginning in his sophomore year. He began farming out of high school and enjoyed working the ground. He was a Fox TV sports fan, watching the Pistons as well as local high school sports teams. Duane played blooper ball in the area for many years and also loved to play euchre in area tournaments. He enjoyed hunting up north as well as in the area and driving around and visiting with friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon. He is survived by five children, Robin (Ann) Buschlen, Pigeon, Kyle Buschlen, Albion, Eric (Amy McGinnis) Buschlen, Midland, Paul (Sherry) Buschlen, Anthem, Ariz., and Paula (Tress) Schuyler, Peoria, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren, Amanda and Jenna Buschlen, Shane Buschlen, Emma, Zachary and Peyton Buschlen, Trenton and Ethan Gerish and Faith and Aden Schuyler; three sisters, Maxine Stirrett, Pigeon, Grace Reibling, Elkton and Shirley (William) Zinnecker, Cass City; one brother, Calvin (Ann) Buschlen, Elkton and several nieces and nephews. Genevieve S. Roggenbuck 1922-2009 Genevieve Sophia Roggenbuck, 86, joined her Lord in the glory of heaven on March 7, 2009. She was born June 16, 1922 in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Walter and Sophie (Gawel) Majewski. She married Clarence Roggenbuck on May 1, 1943 in Rapson at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Clarence preceded her in death on December 31, 1998. She was a life time farmer, first on her parents farm, then with her husband Clarence and her son Clifford. Genevieve enjoyed many of the activities involved in farm life, cooking large meals for her family, taking lunch to the field to picnic, tending to her chickens, caring for her many gardens and canning lots of food. When she had an opportunity, she enjoyed traveling with Clarence and the Port Hope Senior Citizens, attending her Farm Bureau monthly meetings, making rag rugs and embroidering. Gerald Anthony “Jerry” Kaluzny, age 79 of Mendon, died Friday, March 13, 2009, at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo.  He was born in Detroit on Aug. 5, 1929, the son of the late Albert and Mary (Fary) Kalauzny and attended schools in the Detroit area. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He then married Jeanette Poteau on Nov. 25, 1954 in Wayne, Mich.  Jeanette died in 2007. Jerry owned and operated Jerry’s Marathon in Plymouth before going to work for Bendix Aerospace.  He worked as a mechanic for Ford Motor Company for 20 years, retiring to Mendon in 1990.  In his spare time, Jerry enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Following his retirement, he enjoyed yard work, landscaping, and bird watching.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.  Jerry was a member of the Mendon Kiwanis Club and St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon. Jerry is survived by three children, Tami Kaluzny of Mendon, Brian Kaluzny (Margaret) and Nadine Baker (Glenn), all of Mattawan;  six grandchildren, Rachael, Carolyn, and Karl Kaluzny, and Janell, Abbie, and Ben Baker;  one sister, Dolores Larson (Norman) of Wayne; two nieces and two nephews.  The family will receive friends from 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Jack is survived by two daughters, Sherry VanLoon and her husband, Elwood, of Brooklyn, Mich., and Jacqueline Lloyd of Adrian; two brothers, William Maloney of California and Donald Maloney and his wife, Carol, of California; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to his first wife, Fern, and his second wife, Annie, he was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, two brothers and a grandson. James Stevens Staten, 47, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2009, in Hillsdale.  Steven (affectionately known as “BLUE” to his friends and family) was born April 29, 1961 in Coldwater to Donald and Clara (Phyllis Stevens) Staten.  He was a 1979 graduate of Litchfield High School and a 20+ year employee at DCA Food Industries (Stock’s Mill) facility.  After closure of the Hillsdale manufacturing facility, he became an over-the-road long haul semi driver.  Steven was a lifelong resident of the southern Michigan area where he was an avid sportsman, his favorites being coon and deer hunting. Steve is survived by his parents Clara Iles of Litchfield and Donald (Phyllis) Staten of Springport; one sister, Deborah (Donald) Campbell of Galion, Ohio; two brothers, Aaron (Lisa) Staten of Litchfield and Barron (Carolyn) Staten of Indianapolis, Ind.; one niece, Kathryn (Matthew) Campbell-Thomas of Homer; five nephews, Kyle (Lacey) Campbell of Homer, Christopher and Nicholas Staten of Jonesville, Nathaniel Staten of Albion and Bradley Chapman of Quincy. John J. Sistanich, 77 of Coldwater, died on Monday, March 16, 2009 at The Laurels of Coldwater. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 7 p.m. at the Coldwater United Methodist Church with Pastor Bruce Kintigh of the Girard United Methodist Church officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 6 p.m. at the church. Interment of ashes will be at a later date at Oak Grove Cemetery. John was born Feb. 15, 1932 in Gary, Ind. to John A. and Rose (Stasny) Sistanich. He married Patricia A. Bodie on June 14, 1953 in Angola, Ind.. Mr. Sistanich graduated from Portage High School in Portage, Ind. in 1950. He attended Valparaiso College and graduated from Western Michigan University eventually earning his Masters Degree in elementary education. John spent 25 years in education, teaching sixth grade and serving as principal at Jefferson, Girard, Washington and Edison Schools. After retiring from teaching, he sold insurance locally and was one of the first employees of Cobra Compliance, continuing on for 21 years as Cobra became Infinisouce. John worked in sales and presented informational seminars around the country. Mr. Sistanich was an active member of Girard United Methodist Church, serving as Administrative Board Chairman for several years. His devout faith and great concern for others led him to Brazil and Israel with church missions. John enjoyed golfing, fishing and working puzzles; He was a scout leader and Little League coach with his children. John loved sports, playing basketball and baseball in high school, recreation and city leagues and was known for his “2 handed set shot.” He also played fast pitch softball for the Mix General Insurance team for many years. John had formerly belonged to the Coldwater Exchange and Elks Clubs and enjoyed being a ham radio operator. Mr. Sistanich was preceded in death by his parents, his son Danny Sistanich in 1987 and two brothers. He is survived by his wife Pat, his son Ronald Sistanich of Coldwater, his daughter Dawn (Willie) Frasier of Quincy, his brother Joe Sistanich of Hobart, Ind., his sisters Delores Stancil and Mary Ann Nobles both of Bardenton, Fla. and three grandchildren: Laura Sistanich-Dunn of Lansing, Johnny Sistanich of Iraq, and Ivol Rose Frasier of Quincy. KENNETH "BILL" WILLIAM WELCH LAKE HAVASU CITY, ARIZ. Kenneth "Bill" William Welch, 74, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on February 16, 2009 in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. He was born on December 10, 1934, in Brown City, to Kenneth Edgar and Louise (Richardson) Welch. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Barbara Ann; son, William Alan Welch (Joanne) of Texas; daughter, Lori Ann Welch of California; grandchildren, Jennifer (Welch) and Brian Remsberg of South Carolina, Eric Welch stationed in Maine with the US Navy, Lisa (Welch) and Mikah Wisner of Alaska, Adam and Monique Banas of Idaho, Anya Banas of Colorado. Bill enjoyed a recent visit with his two great grandsons, Dean and Franklin Remsberg of South Carolina. Bill is also survived by sister, Juanita (Welch) and Wayne Smith of Michigan; brother, Dr. Myron and Marcia Welch of Iowa; brother-in-law, Carl and Shirley Borsodi of Michigan, sister-in-law, June Pridemore of Michigan, brother-in-law, Bob Sakuta of Michigan; plus many nieces and nephews. Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Naval Reserve unit in Port Huron for 9 years. He graduated from barber college in May 1953, prior to graduating from high school that month. He worked in his father's barbershop for 9 years and retained an active barber's license in Michigan until his death. Bill also held various jobs throughout his lifetime: road construction; delivery of Standard Oil petroleum products to local farmers and businesses; National Sales Representative for Frank Industries RV manufacturing, later known as Xplorer Motor Homes; trained with Farm Bureau Insurance Company prior to opening Bill Welch Insurance Agency, which he owned and operated for 25 years until his retirement. Bill and Barbara enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada in their motor home until 5 years ago, when they decided to make Lake Havasu City their new home. One of their favorite locations to visit was the Pacific Northwest coastline, particularly Newport, Oregon, where Bill spent hours attempting to catch Dungeness crabs. They also enjoyed traveling with the London Bridgers RV club of Lake Havasu City. Among other favorite hobbies were building, flying, and rebuilding remote control airplanes. He was an active member and officer of the Havasu Sport Flyers & the Desert Hawks. Bill was a very caring individual that enjoyed his affiliation with multiple service organizations, especially the Shriners, the Masons and the Eagles. Visitation was held at Lietz-Fraze Chapel in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., on February 20, with military and Masonic funeral services held at the same location on February 21. A memorial service and burial of Bill's ashes in Michigan in May 2009 is being planned. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Hospice of Lake Havasu City, P.O. Leland Irving Klatt, age 89, of Clayton passed away March 9, 2009. Leland was born May 16, 1919, in Sylvania, Ohio, the son of Ernest and Tessie (VanDoren) Klatt. On Feb. 19, 1944, he married Carmella Viola Galici in Detroit, Mich. She preceded him in death April 25, 2003. In his early years he farmed with his grandfather. He then worked in the tool and die industry for 30 years. After leaving the tool and die profession, he and Carmella became self employed in the coal business, landscaping, weed cutting, Adrian Sod Farm and the Adrian Peat Moss Farm. He was a writer of poetry and belonged to the Library of Poets in Washington, D.C. He was a devoted believer in Christ and his principles.   Leland is survived by his children, Daniel and Deborah (Fred) Sisty; grandchildren, Anthony, Andrew, Adam, Aaron, Aric, and Alan Jeffrey; great-grandchildren, Alyson, Dominic, Braydon and Lexi; and step-sister, Dorothy. Leon S. Kimball, 89, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Feb. 28, 2009, at the Sturgis Hospital emergency room. He was born Jan.21, 1920, in Sturgis, Mich., a son to the late Ray and Elsie (Squires) Kimball. Leon had resided in Sturgis his whole life. On March 3, 1945, he married Rolla Grattan at Fort Bragg, NC. This marriage ended in divorce. He married Dolores Starai on May 25, 1985 in Chicago. This marriage also ended in divorce. For many years, Leon was a general contractor owning and operating his own construction company. He currently was a real estate broker and owned and operated Premier Properties in Sturgis. He was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis and since 1952 had been an active member of the Sturgis Rotary Club. Leon was very involved in the St. Joseph County Republican Party and the St. Joseph County Board of Realtors for many years. He was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II earning the rank of Second Lieutenant. He is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Mitchell) Rinek of Okemos and Martha (David) Cathcart of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; one son, John (Nancy) Kimball of Minneapolis, Minn.; six grandchildren, Andrew Rinek, Christopher Rinek, Blair Cathcart, Grant Cathcart, Megan Kimball and Lindsay Kimball and his former wife; Dolores Kimball of Sturgis. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Leon Kimball will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis. The Revs. Deb Johnson and Robert Keim will officiate. A private graveside committal of the ashes will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis at a later date where full military rites will be conferred by Captain John J. His love of the outdoors included camping, picnics, baseball, swimming and working on cars. On March 1, 2009, he married Sharon (Duncan) and she preceded him in death March 7. Lloyd K. Essenmacher 1927-2009 Lloyd K. Essenmacher, 81, Harbor Beach, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2009 peacefully at his home with family at his side while under hospice care. He was born on November 23, 1927 in Harbor Beach to the late Joseph and Virginia (Warner) Essenmacher. Lloyd and Marilyn Booms were united in marriage on June 20, 1953 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Helena. Lloyd was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving as a paratrooper in the Eleventh Airborne Division at the end of World War II and in the occupation of Japan. Following his military service, he completed electronics school, ran a successful television business and completed his career at Sears through retirement. He loved animals, nature and thoroughly enjoyed spending time in the woods. He was very active in sports and was always up for a game with his kids or in the community. He was an avid card player, with euchre and pedro often being played around the home. Lloyd was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church of Harbor Beach. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marilyn; 11 children, Thomas (Charlet) Essenmacher, Los Lunas, N.M., Douglas (Vickie) Essenmacher, Cadillac, Audrey (Steve) Schock, Calgary, Canada, Karen (Mark) Sfara, Youngstown, Ohio, Duane (Chantella) Essenmacher, Katy, Texas, Dale Essenmacher, Augusta, Kan., Neal (Pauline) Essenmacher, Harbor Beach, Timothy (Courtney) Essenmacher, Lathrup Village, Joseph (Tami) Essenmacher, Shelby Township, Renae (David) Paulson, Webster, Wis., Kevin Essenmacher and friend Jamie, Lansing; 34 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one brother, Richard (Anna) Essenmacher, Bad Axe. Lyell Alvin Wagenveld, age 95, of Holland went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday March 14, 2009 at Oak Crest Manor of Holland. Lyell was born the son of Frank and Blanche Wagenveld August 21, 1913 in Hull, North Dakota.  Lyell moved with his family to Holland Michigan in his late teenage years.  He attended Hope College for one year.  He was employed by the United States Postal office, and was the oldest retired postal worker in Michigan.  He was a long time resident of Waukazoo Woods. He was a long time member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Holland.     He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years Blanche (Van Slooten) Wagenveld in 1978, and daughter Dolores Kamphuis 1991. His family includes: daughter Charlotte and Ted Kruithoff of Holland; son Wayne and Kathy Wagenveld of Grand Rapids; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Marsha and Ken Mokma, brother-in-laws Lloyd and Lois Van Slooten, sister-in-law Amy Van Slooten;  and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Madlyn (Webb) Sanderson, age 87, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2009, at Parkcliffe Alzheimer’s Community in Toledo, her residence of close to 10 years. Madlyn was born in Sylvania, Ohio, on May 6, 1921, to Clyde Carson Webb and Cornelia Kirkpatrick Bell Webb. After graduating in 1939 from Burnham High School in Sylvania, she married Gail Garner Sanderson, eventually moving to Adrian, Mich., where they raised six children. She was a home-room mother for many of the 30 consecutive years during which her children were students in the Madison School District and her renowned baking skills increased the profits of many school bake sales there. A gifted artist, Madlyn was a member of the Maple City Art Guild and the Artists Key Club and studied painting with Russel Steinke and Theodore Keen, former Dean of the Chicago Institute of Art. She also wrote poetry of inspiration and comfort and loved music — playing the mandolin, harmonica, mouth harp, and singing with her family. She participated in Project L.E.A.D., a volunteer literacy program at the Lenawee County Library and was a long-time member of the Worldwide Church of God. Madlyn was preceded in death by her husband, Gail Sanderson; sister, Maxine Myers Niehousmyer, and grandson, Steven Gail Meinke. She is survived by her six children, Larry Sanderson (Gloria), of Williamsburg, Va., Eugene Sanderson (Linda), of Lambertville, Pamela Meinke (Roger), of Adrian, Beverly Chesterby (Douglas), of Dewey, Ariz., Gary Sanderson (Debbie), and Timothy Sanderson (Dawn), both of Toledo; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St., Sylvania, on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, from 4 to 9 p.m. On Thursday, Madlyn will be laid to rest next to her husband following a Graveside Service at Ford Cemetery, Berkey, Ohio, at 11 a.m. Pastor Larry Brown, of Grace Family Fellowship, will preside. BUSSEMA, Martin "Mart" Of Kalamazoo Passed away March 14, 2009 at Rose Arbor Hospice Care. He was born March 27, 1915 in North Riverside, IL, to the late Carl and Josephine (Yonkman) Bussema. Mart was united in marriage on September 14, 1938 to the former Frances DeWolf, who survives. Mart was a longtime member of Third Reformed Church where he served as Elder, Deacon and with the yard and grounds maintenance crew. He was employed with Miller Lumber Company, retiring in 1981 after 47 years of service. He then worked at Longjohn Florist for ten years, making deliveries. Also surviving Mart are his children, Carl (Janet) Bussema of Kalamazoo, John (Diane) Bussema of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, Mark (Erin) Bussema, Kimberly (Scott) Muller, Tonya (Dr. Chris) Bussema and Sara (Josh) Teitelman; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Also preceding him in death were, a daughter, Barbara Bussema; two sisters and 11 brothers. She was a former parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers and organized the annual fall craft show. She was an active member of the Bad Axe Seniors. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and baking the best pies in town. Meta D. McKee 1920 - 2009 Meta Dorothy McKee, 88, Pigeon, formerly of Mount Clemens, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2009 at Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care in Pigeon. She was born in Pigeon at the family home on May 31, 1920, the daughter of the late Herman H. and Anna Marie (Schuette) Buchholz. She was baptized at Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon on June 13, 1920. She was a 1938 graduate of Pigeon High School . Meta attended the Evangelical Deaconess School of Nursing in Detroit. She graduated on May 15, 1941 and received her R.N. license in 1942. She served with the U.S. Army as 1st Lieutenant Nurse, 147 General Hospital, Hawaii, until her discharge in August of 1946. On March 6, 1948 she was married to Tom McKee in the Detroit Area and he preceded her in death. Prior to WWII, Meta was an industrial nurse with Briggs Industrial. Following the war, she worked as an industrial nurse with Chrysler Corporation for 40 years, retiring in 1986. She lived most of her life in theMount Clemens area and was formerly a very active member of the American Lutheran Church in Clinton. Township She loved beautiful things, birds, her garden and especially her flowers. She enjoyed helping people, she loved food and spending time with family and friends. She diligently developed and maintained the records of her family history and regarded her nieces and nephews as her children. She is survived by two brothers, William (Margaret) Buchholz, Pigeon and Larry (Pat) Buchholz, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Marge Buchholz, Fla. and 24 favorite nieces and nephews. She was very active in the Michigan Archeological Society, finding many rare and unusual prehistoric artifacts. She also was in several choirs in the area and loved to fish. Paul Everett Kope, 72, of Ann Arbor, died March 10, 2009, at home. He was born Nov. 27, 1936, in Cambria. Paul was a member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor. He worked as a truck driver, and was a teamster for 40 years. Richard L. Walker Marlette Richard L. Walker, 83, of Marlette, passed away Friday (March 13, 2009) at Marlette Hospice Residence. Mr. Walker had lived in Marlette for the past 10 years and was previously from the North Branch area. He was born January 27, 1926, in Lapeer, the son of the late Roger and Muriel (Baron) Walker. Richard graduated from Lapeer High School in 1943, then went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He married Marie Radzwion on August 3, 1946 in Lapeer. Robert Alvin Yesh, age 81, of Bronson, Mich., died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, March 13, 2009, at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall,  following a lengthy illness. Bob was born Nov. 13, 1927, in Coldwater, son of Frank and Elizabeth (Stefanski) Yesh and was a lifelong Bronson resident. He married Jean Beverly Hungerford on Dec. 6, 1955, in South Bend, Ind.  Jean Beverly died Dec.  14, 2001. After graduation from Bronson High School, Bob joined the U.S. Army during World War II.  After the war, he worked at the former Douglas Components Company in Bronson, then drove truck.  Having an interest in law enforcement, he became a Bronson Police Officer in 1956. He went on to join the Branch County Sheriff’s Department, where he rose to the rank of sergeant and served for more than 20 years. After his retirement, he returned to the Bronson Police Department, from where he retired after a combined 30 years in law enforcement. He then took up farming full time. Bob was an avid hunter, especially looking forward to the opening day of firearms deer season.  He was a member of the NRA and actively engaged in the shooting sports and was known for his accuracy skills. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church. Surviving are his daughter Susan Stansberry of Battle Creek; his son and daughter-in-law, Rex and Debra Yesh of Eat Leroy; stepsons., Dennis (Patty) Marks of Hobe Sound, Fla., and Don (Joanne) Marks of Coldwater; stepdaughters Joyce (Milt) McNitt of Coldwater and Brenda (Jim) Wilhelm of Huntington, Ind.; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Jean Beverly, his wife of 46 years; his stepson, Jim Marks; and his brother Francis Yesh. The funeral liturgy celebrating the life of Robert A. Yesh will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church in Bronson, with the Rev. Fr. Brian Stanley officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Prayers before Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson. The family will receive friends at the Kolcz Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, where the Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday.  Memorial donations are suggested to the Marshall Nursing and Rehab Center.   |

He was born May 17, 1937, in Pioneer, Ohio, to Martin V. and Blanche F. (Connolly) Grimm. He graduated from Pioneer, Ohio High School in 1956. He married Carolyn M. Moore Nov. 30, 1962 in Kunkle, Ohio and she survives. Bob retired after 30 years as a machinist for Aro Corp in Bryan in 2002. Until recently he was employed at the Montpelier Auto Auction as well as the Sunoco Station at Holiday City, rural Montpelier. Also surviving are three sons, Michael (Christy) Grimm, Waldron, William (Jodi) Grimm, Bryan and Stanley (Kris) Grimm, Alvordton; one brother, Keith (Donna) Grimm, Sherwood, Ohio; four grandchildren, Allison and Aaron Grimm, Waldron and Tiffanie and Bradley Grimm, Bryan and one sister-in-law, Jessie Grimm, Pioneer. Robert G. Raymond, 85 of Coldwater, died Monday, March 16, 2009, at Laurels of Coldwater. Robert was born July 26, 1923 in Branch County to Harlow and Francis (Fisher) Raymond. He married Alice Shirley Lane in 1943 in Coldwater. She preceded him in death Oct. 3, 2001. He was a life-long resident of Branch County. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in WWII. He received a Purple Heart, eight battle stars and numerous other medals. He was born on February 1, 1947 in Harbor Beach to the late Roman and Marie (Stocks) Pawlowski. Bob and Dianne Noble were united in marriage on July 24, 1971 in Harbor Beach. Bob served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, the VFW Post of Harbor Beach and the Knights of Columbus Council #11432 of Harbor Beach. He loved fishing, going to the casino, hanging out at Hunter's Bar, his grandchildren and loved barbecue's with friends and family, especially marshmallows. Bob enjoyed the simple things in life. Sister Leslie Hartway, formerly known as Elizabeth Hartway, died on March 16, 2009, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Mich. She was 88 years of age and in the 65th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation. Sister Leslie was born in Detroit, Mich., to Leslie and Florence (Foley) Hartway. She graduated from Cathedral Central High School in Detroit, Mich., and received a Bachelor of Philosophy Degree in Music Theory and a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, Mich.; a Master of Music Degree in Music Education and a Master of Education Degree in Administration from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich. Sister spent 24 years ministering in education in Owosso and Lansing, Mich. She was Administrator at St. Paul High School in Owosso from 1960 to 1966 and from 1966 to 1969 Director of Secondary Schools in the Diocese of Lansing. She was Director of Placement in Central Services in Adrian for six years. Sister was Co-Director of the Office of Pastoral Ministry one year, and Director of Ministry to the Sick and Imprisoned for two years in the Diocese of Memphis. Sister was Administrative Assistant for the Jesuit Commission of Research & Development in New York from 1978 to 1979. She was Chaplain at Harper-Grace Hospital in Detroit for four years, and Coordinator of Family Services for Bon Secours Hospice in Grosse Pointe for one year. She was Executive Secretary for Joseph Posch & Associates in East Detroit from 1985 to 1989. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 1989. Sister Leslie is survived by a sister, Lorrayne Thielemans of Clinton Township, Mich. Visitation is from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2009, in the Rose Room at the Dominican Life Center, followed by Vigil Prayer at 7 p.m. in St. Catherine Chapel. Willie “Bill” G. Dumas, 88, of Goshen, died Friday, March 13, 2009, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. He had been ill the past two years. He was born Feb. 23, 1921, in Marshall County, Alabama, to William R. and Annie (Tidmore) Dumas. He married Beatrice May on June 7, 1947 in Chatsworth, Alabama. She survives. A metallurgist, Mr. Dumas worked for Dana Corporation for 23 years before retiring in 1985. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Goshen and a past member of Hillsdale American Legion. He enjoyed playing golf and shuffleboard. He was a sports fan of all sports and teams. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice; a daughter, Sheila K. (John) Dolph of Goshen; five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Patricia Dumas. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Dumas and two sisters, Frances Padgett and Maedelmas Boone. Visitation was held 4-7 p.m., Monday, March 16 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. Funeral services are 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 17 at the funeral home. Rev. Gregg Lanzen of First Baptist Church, Goshen will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorials may be directed to American Lung Association or American Kidney Foundation. |
