Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of service Tuesday at the church. Clifford was born August 24, 1919 in Mount Morris, Michigan to Raymond and Florence Houser. He attended Flint Technical High School and soon entered the service with his brothers Max, Jerry and Edgar during World War II. During the war, Houser proudly served in the South Pacific as a Chief Petty Officer for the U.S. Coast Guard. One of his great joys in life was the many Coast Guard reunions he attended all over the United States and the Caribbean with his former shipmates. After the war, Clifford was employed as a Master Plumber by Ames Plumbing & Heating in Flint, Michigan. Later, he formed his own company and became President of Houser Plumbing & Heating, Inc. for 50 years. He also held United States patents for two Hydrogen-based exothermic heating inventions. As a private aircraft owner and pilot, Clifford spent many years flying his own plane to visit family and friends. In his 62 years as a congregant of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Flint, Michigan he served as a Trustee, Building Committee member and Cub Scout leader of Pack 183, Den 5. Clifford enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, playing craps and especially being surrounded by his family. He enjoyed building model ships and airplanes and also tinkering in his metal shop. "It wasn't born running, someone made it run and we can fix it", he would say. This was most assuredly the case when Pop was around. There was not much that he could not fix. Ultimately, he survived strokes, throat cancer, heart issues, lung failure, injuries and many surgeries that he simply moved past in his life. He was a one of a kind "tough" guy at 135 pounds. Clifford is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Elizabeth M. Houser of Flint, Michigan; son, Clifford R. Houser and wife Jeanette of West Branch, Michigan; son, James Houser and wife Marlene of Montrose, Michigan; his grandchildren he loved so very dearly, Clifford J. Houser (Chip) of Freeland, Michigan, Elizabeth J. Houser of East Lansing, Michigan, Jordan Houser of Bay City, Michigan, Jeffrey, Sara and Cacsie Houser of Montrose, Michigan; great-grandson, Owen Szukhent also of Montrose, Michigan. Surviving siblings include: sister, Francis Gardner of Bradenton, Florida; brother, Edgar Houser of Naples, Florida; brother, Maxwell Houser of Hillman, Michigan. He is pre-deceased by parents, Raymond and Florence Houser; sisters Bernice Hager, Lucille Juckette, Fern Mellon and brothers Merton and Jerry Houser. Arrangements by Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Friends may share an online tribute on the obituaries page of www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
