Arlyne Kay Becker, age 69 of Britton died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, at home. She was born May 16, 1940, in Tecumseh, the daughter of Frank C. and Carrenna (Smith) Becker Arlyne was employed as Township Clerk in Ridgeway Township for more than 40 years. She was a teller at United Bank and Trust until 2001. She loved to cook, sew, and being with family. Arlyne is survived by one daughter, Kym (Jeffrey) Geigler of Britton, and two grandchildren, Kyle and Kory Geigler. She was preceded in death by her parents. At her request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes, with the Rev. David Welcome of Britton Congregational Church officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of services. She was born February 27, 1933 in Detroit, Mich. Barbara retired from Michigan Wisconsin Pipeline Company. She was a member of St. Thomas Community Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her children, Barbara (David) Androkites and Douglas (Susan) Wennerholt; four grandchildren; siblings, Richard, Gordon and Trudy. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald. Barbara Jean Zimmerman, 79, of Sturgis, passed away early Tuesday morning, Dec. 8, 2009, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis. She was born July 9, 1930, in Columbus, Ohio, a daughter of the late Arthur and Thelma (Benson) Werkhaven. Barb had resided in Sturgis most of her life, coming from Ohio. She graduated from Sturgis High School with the class of 1948. On Nov. 11, 1950, she married Stanley E. Zimmerman Jr., son of the late Stanley E. and Amaza Zimmerman Sr., in Sturgis. For more than 25 years she was a school bus driver for Sturgis Public Schools and in her younger years she had been employed as a secretary at several offices in Sturgis, including Formed Tubes. She also sold Tupperware and Avon products for many years. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis, where she was a member of the choir for many many years, and the First United Methodist Women. She also held memberships in the Sturgis Historical Society and TOPS. She was a life member of the first and third of the month sewing club; her mother, Thelma, was a founding member of this club. A proud tradition Thelma passed on to her daughter and granddaughter. Barb truly enjoyed her 3rd Thursday class luncheons. For many years she owned and bred Dachshunds. Many will remember her as Grandma Barb, lovingly caring for many Sturgis newborns as if they were her own. She was proud that quite often “her babies” came back to her with their babies. Barb is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Stanley; two daughters, Linda (Tod) Kershner of Sturgis and Nancy (Gil) Perry of Fairplay, Colo.; two sons, Douglas (Brenda Kelley) Zimmerman of Quincy and John (Judy) Zimmerman of Stuart, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Debra Singleton, Nikki Kershner, Heidi Kershner, Tyler Kershner, Sara (Chris) Herrmann, Justin (Ashley) Zimmerman and Lacy Good-Zimmerman; four great-grandchildren, Storm Singleton, Emma Zimmerman, Theo Hermann and Amaza Herrmann; a great-great-granddaughter; and a sister, Diana Adams of San Diego, Calif. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 10-10:45 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis, where a memorial service celebrating the life of Barbara Jean Zimmerman will begin at 11 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Deb Johnson and the Rev. Robert Keim will officiate. Private burial of the ashes will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. The Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St. in Sturgis, is handling the arrangements. (Ryle) Harrison and graduated from Spring Arbor High School in 1951. Doug was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in Korea, and had been employed at Walker Muffler in Jackson. He is survived by sister, Elaine Benn Dimondale; brothers, Keith (Connie) Harrison of Arizona, Richard (Shirley) Harrison of Jonesville. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the George White Funeral Home, Litchfield, with the Rev. Edward Knauss officiating. Interment will follow at a later date in Mosherville Cemetery. Dr. Patricia Barnard Muliett Dr. Patricia Barnard Muliett, beloved daughter, wife, mother and teacher, of Grosse Pointe Woods, died suddenly December 4, 2009. Dr. Barnard served as principal and Title 1 coordinator in the Mount Clemens Community Schools, director of special education within the same school district. In 1989, Tricia took a position as director of a program providing services to 0-3 handicapped children and their families in the Macomb Intermediate School District from which she retired in 1999. Shortly thereafter, another opportunity presented itself as Head Start Director of Macomb County. Patricia was a member of the Metro Detroit Quilters Guild and AAUW, the Sewing and Quilting Group of St. Paul Altar Society; she also enjoyed sailing and dancing. She is survived by her husband, John Gregory Muliett "Greg;" daughter, Mary Catherine Muliett; her parents, George and Rita Barnard of Chagrin Falls, Ohio. She is also survived by eight siblings, Margaret Saraney (Lyle), Robert Barnard (Gayle), Nancy Hastings, Kathleen Skala (Norman), Elizabeth Redder, Donald Barnard (Linda), Thomas Barnard (Barbara) and David Barnard. She was a loving aunt to 61 great-nieces and -nephews. She was preceded in death by brother, James Barnard (Mary Cay); sister, Rita Lesesky (Alan) and niece, Deana Saraney. Lawrence 'Larry' Goretski Lawrence "Larry" Goretski, age 87, died Monday, December 7, 2009, at St. John Macomb Hospital in Warren. Born in Port Austin, Mich. on February 24, 1922. Larry was a World War II Army veteran. He was a 45-year resident of Center Line and was married to his wife, Lorraine (nee Ignash) for over 61 years. Larry retired in 1980 as a job setter for General Motors Hydramatic in Ypsilanti. He was a longtime member of St. Clement Catholic Church where he was an usher. After retiring, he enjoyed walking and was frequently seen down Van Dyke stopping at Burger King to visit with friends. He loved flea markets, bowling, watching baseball and gardening. He was a lifetime member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 1818 in Fraser and the Disabled American Veterans. In addition to his wife, Lorraine; he is survived by his daughter, Lori (Craig) Hickey; granddaughters, Shannon and Ashley; great-granddaughter, Ava Elizabeth; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Siebenrock; sisters, Mary, Agnes, Bernice, Leona; and brother, Leo "Cooner." Visitation will take place at the Rudy Funeral Home, 25650 Van Dyke (10 1/2 Mile) on Thursday 5-9 p.m. and Friday 1-9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary. Merle K. Cox Jr., 69, of Hudson, passed away Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Lenawee County.  He was born Nov. 8, 1940, in Morenci, the son of Merle F. and Viola (Rudolph) Cox Sr.  He married Vergie (Borton) on Jan. 28, 1961, in Hudson and she survives. Merle retired as a plant supervisor for M & S Mfg. in Hudson in 2001, with over 40 years of service. His hobbies included woodworking, tinkering in the workshop on his son, Dean's excavating equipment and was an avid race fan, helping Fisher's Racing Team at Oakshade Raceway. Merle dearly loved his family and his grandchildren were the love of his life. Surviving Merle besides his wife, Vergie of 48 years are four children, Mark Cox of Adrian, Lynda (Michael) Hepker of Mackinac Island, Dean (Sandy) Cox of Hudson and Shane Cox of Hudson; one sister, Velda Reynolds of Lorain, Ohio; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.   He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Barbara Brown. At Merle's request cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or services. Merton C. Wilson, 70, of Hudson, passed away Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, at his home, under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Lenawee County. He was born May 26, 1939, in Adrian, the son of Roscoe C. and Cecil (Cadoo) Wilson. He married Janice Swiegart Sept. 3, 1960, in Hudson and she survives. Mert was a self-employed truck driver for M. Wilson Trucking, retiring in 2006, with over 40 years of service. He graduated from Hudson High School Class of 1957, was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Thursday Afternoon Men's Golf League, Tuesday Morning Seniors Golf League and was proud to be a teammate on the 1956 State Championship Football Team in Hudson. Mert enjoyed golf, Hudson football, traveling and dearly loved his wife, children and grandchildren. Surviving Mert besides his wife of 49 years, Jan, are two daughters, Teresa (Scott) Frantz of Hudson and Cathy Johnston of Columbus, Ohio; two sons, Charles Wilson of Hudson and Steve (Amy) Wilson of Delta, Ohio; three brothers, Roscoe G. "Jerry" (Pat) Wilson of Manitou Beach, Ray (Donna) Wilson of Hudson and Richard (Peggy) Wilson of Adrian; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; honorary sister, Carrie Jones of Pittsford, and special friend Phelix Wright of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Larry Wilson. Mass of Christian Burial for Mert will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hudson with Fr. H. Paul Ruddy as celebrant. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Hudson. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Sunday with a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. at Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson. She was born Jan. 9, 1917, in Hillsdale, to George and Flora (Reynolds) Underhill. She was married April 30, 1934, to Kenneth Emerick and he preceded her in death in 1995. Mildred was a home caregiver, a wife, mother and grandmother. To Millie, her family was the center of her life. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsdale. Surviving are two children, Paula (Curtis) Dora of Jonesville and Steven (Cheryl) Emerich of Bellfair, Wash. Ten grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two daughters, Mary Lou Emerich and Sondra Rinker. Memorial services for Mildred Emerick will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsdale with Pastor Patti Beckman and the Rev. Richard Thorp officiating. Norma G. Reed, age 60, of Kalamazoo, went home peacefully to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 4, 2009. Norma was born on Sept. 19, 1949, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Wayne and Irma L. (Beatty) Warfield. On Dec. 31, 1966, she was united in marriage to Mr. Robert(Bob)E. Reed, of Berrien Springs, Mich. Norma and Bob have been owners of The Hi-Lo Family Convenience Store since 1999 and have become great friends with many of their customers. For 25 years, Norma has been a foster parent for Family & Children Services of Kalamazoo, where she put her heart and soul into touching the lives of 41 children. Norma always wore a smile on her face and left a smile on the faces of those who had the chance to meet her. She had and loved a great sense of humor. Some of her hobbies included, cake decorating, coloring, playing corn-hole with her children, family cookouts in the backyard, attending her children's school events, and decorating the Christmas tree with her family. She enjoyed attending services at both Kalamazoo Valley Family Church and Cherry Creek of Portage with her family. She was preceded in death by her mother, Irma L.Warfield; and brother, Wayne Warfield. Norma is survived by her husband, Bob E. Reed; and their12 children, Robert (Jolene) Reed of Comstock Mich., Brian (Sharon) Reed of Sturgis Mich., Jason Reed of Gobles, Mich., Connie (Joseph) Edgley, Velma (Bucky) Block, Sasha Reed, Ashley Reed, Danielle Reed, Holly Reed, Danny Reed, Michael Reed, all of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Melissa (Jeff) Ward of Ohio.  Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Bobby, Britney, Ashley, Stephanie, Heather, Angela, Mariah, Carmen, Kiana, Adam, Brandon and “Mamaws” special grandson, Daulton; her three great-grandchildren, Austin, Alexa, Aubrianna; her father Wayne (Dorothy) Warfield of Vicksburg, Mich.; a brother, Al Warfield of Delton, Mich.; a sister, Donna (Robert) Moore of Texas Corners, Mich., and several nieces, nephews and in-laws. She was born Nov. 20, 1919, a daughter of Joseph and Bessie Smith in Roanoke, Va. In 1942, she married Melvin Wheeler in North Carolina. He preceded her in death on July 6, 1987. Mrs. Wheeler lived in the Centreville and Mendon area for 53 years. She was a waitress and a member of the Methodist church. Surviving are a son, Michael (Kimberly) Wheeler of White Pigeon; a grandson, Jason Wheeler of Sturgis; a sister, Ruth Burns; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; and eight brothers and sisters. There will be no visitation.  A private graveside service will be held at the Burr Oak Township Cemetery, with the Rev. Brenda Clark of SouthernCare Hospice officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to SouthernCare Hospice. Ronald and Rose started farming with his family in Troy and moved to Macomb Township and continued farming as Oliver Farms. He was a lifelong farmer and had a passion for farming. His hobby was collecting antique tractors and trains. Ronald was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Rosene Elizabeth Baker Pierce, 104, died in Hospice Compassionate Care in Richmond, Ky. on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2009. She was born and raised in Hillsdale County, the daughter of Fred and Addie Bradley Baker. She was loved and respected by all who knew her in her long life. Before her marriage to Clark M. Pierce in 1929, Rosene taught for 5 years in a country, one-room, eight-grades schoolhouse. With her husband, a high school science and agriculture teacher, she lived in Romeo, Mich. where their two children were born. When parents Harold and Gertrude Pierce died at their land grant farm in lower Michigan, Clark and Rosene moved there and took over the chicken hatchery business and later, also raised Herford steers. Rosene was a member of the North Adams First Baptist Church, Country Women’s Improvement Club and the North Adams Women’s Club. She became Worthy Matron of the OES (Order of the Eastern Star). After her husband’s death in 1993, Rosene moved to Kentucky to be with her daughter. She visited the Richmond, Ky. Senior Center for many years where she made many friends. She lived at Assisted Living McCready Manor for 11 years before health problems caused her to move to Telford Terrace. Rosene was a lover of classical music, beautiful pressed glass, crocheter of many afghans for family members and Project Linus, and a wonderful cook. A special joy at her 100th birthday party was a rumble-seat ride down Main St. Richmond with Ray DeSloover at the wheel of his Model A Ford, a key to the city and a proclamation given her by Mayor Connie Lawson. Preceding her in death were her father and mother, two brothers and one sister. Surviving are one daughter, Joan Lorna Boewe (Karl-Heinz) of Richmond and one son, Dr. Fredrick H. Pierce (Mary Jo) of North Salem, Ind.; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Rosene Elizabeth Pierce will be held at the First Baptist Church in North Adams 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12 with the Reverend Fred Jensen officiating. Rosene will then be laid to rest in the Northlawn Cemetery in North Adams. The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Good Samaritan Fund of St. Andrews Place in Richmond, Ky.

Sister Eleanor Stech, formerly known as Sister Paul Ellen Stech, died on Dec. 6, 2009, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Mich. She was 83 years of age and in the 59th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation. Sister Eleanor was born in Chicago, Ill., to Edward and Rose (Sima) Stech. Sister graduated from Aquinas High School in Chicago, Ill., and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology and a Master of Science Degree in Biology from DePaul University in Chicago, Ill., and a Master of Theology Degree in Scripture from St. John Seminary in Plymouth, Mich. Sister spent 21 years ministering in education in Detroit, Ypsilanti and Adrian, Mich.; Wilmette, Ill.; Oakland and Santa Cruz, Calif. She was a Pastoral Minister for two years at Sacred Heart in Auburn Heights, four years at St. Patrick in Brighton and one year at St. Philip Neri in Chicago. Sister was Director of Novices for the Adrian Dominican Sisters for five years and Co-Provincial of St. Dominic Province in Hometown, Il., for three years. She was Administrative Assistant for three years in the Overseas Chapter Office in Adrian. In Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, Sister was the co-founder of Centro Catalina, a center for economically poor women and children where she ministered for eight years. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 2004. Sister Eleanor is survived by a brother, Robert Stech of Rockford, Mich., and a sister, Rosemary Zambon of San Jacinto, Calif. Visitation is from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, in the Rose Room at the Dominican Life Center, followed by Vigil Prayer at 7 p.m. in St. Catherine Chapel. The Funeral Liturgy will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009. Burial will be in the Congregation cemetery. Stanley was employed by Zycom in Saline as an inspector for many years. He was an auxiliary  member of the Tecumseh V.F.W. #4187 and past member of the Jaycees. He was a 1970 graduate of Clinton High School. Stanley is survived by his mother, Thelma Green; one brother, Warren Green of Clinton; one sister, Eva (Michael) Cortright of Saline; one nephew, Christopher Cortright; one niece, Faith Penix; and one great-nephew, Conor Penix. He was preceded in death by his father and an infant brother. At his request, cremation has taken place. She had worked in the Cambria area in 1968. When she moved to Albion, she worked as a laundress at Home Laundry. For 28 years Violet was married to Frank Parney who preceded her in death in 1960. In 1972, she married Robert “Bert” Miller who survives. She was a member of Leisure Hour Club in Albion. Violet enjoyed hunting, cooking and  baking, sewing and gardening. Survivors include: husband, Robert “Bert” Miller; daughter, Donelta Day and son, Junior and Martha Parney, all of Albion; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Parney; one brother, Ernest Britton; one half-brother, Garford Britton and half-sister, Audrey Seward. Zach enjoyed watching movies, especially the movie CARS and Shrek and loved to attend his brother and sisters sporting events at Hesperia Schools, especially cross-country, wrestling and track events. Zach touched the lives of many people and changed the way all pursue the journey of life. Most memorable moments for Zach would be watching Jordan and the Hesperia Panthers win the 2008 Division 4 State wrestling title and Gabbie run to All-State track and cross country and Dad pushed Zach to win the 2009 5K Run for Ralph’s Kids in New Era. Zac is survived by his mother, Kimberly Bassage of Fremont; his father, Bob Bates of Hesperia; his brother, Jordan Bates of Hesperia; sister, Gabrielle Bates of Hesperia; brother, Peyton Fowler-Bates of Allen; paternal grandparents, Roberta (Norman) Robertson of Williston, S.C.; Robert Bates Sr. of Coldwater; paternal great grandparents, Wesley and Betty Bates of Coldwater; Florence (Mack) Creech of Coldwater; his aunts, Rosalyn (Mike) Ambs of Union City and Cassandra Bates of Coldwater; his uncle, Wesley Bates of Coldwater and several great aunts and uncles.  Zach was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Bob and Virginia Bassage. Prior to her husband’s death, Zola and Frank enjoyed traveling to Arizona for the winter. She was a former member of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, LaGrange, and a current member of the UnitedMethodist Church in LaGrange. Surviving are two cousins, Randy Mornistar of Anadale,Fla., and Megan Keserauskis of Deland, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a daughter, Bonnie Carol. Visitation is 9-11 a.m.Saturday at Carney-Forst Funeral Home in LaGrange. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Chris Danielson of the United Methodist Church of LaGrange officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in LaGrange.
