Arlene Z. Woods, age 87, of Osceola, Ind., and a former resident of Sturgis, passed away Thursday evening Dec. 17, 2009, at Riverside Village in Elkhart, Ind. She was born March 17, 1922, in LaGrange County, Ind., a daughter to the late Robert and Letta (Carper) Leer. Mrs. Woods had resided in South Bend, Ind., White Pigeon, Chesapeake, Virginia, Sturgis and her early life was spent in Brighton, Ind., and she graduated from Brighton High School with the class of 1940. She was first married to Herbert Riley in Dayton, Ohio. He died in 1966. In 1970 she married Charles Woods in Constantine and he died in 1991. She retired in 1987 following 27 years of dedicated employment with Gray Brothers Stamping in White Pigeon. Mrs. Woods enjoyed fishing and camping. She is survived by one daughter, Teresa (Dennis) Ely of Osceola; one son, David (Karen) Riley of Bowling Green, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Riley, Timothy Riley, Amy Brown, Elizabeth Michalec, Erin Clark, Matthew Ely and Wendi Osgatharp; one sister, Catherine Clark of Constantine; one brother, E.C. (Mary Alice) Leer of Sturgis and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; one son, Robert Riley; two sisters, Pauline Long and Mildred Leer and one brother, Monroe “Bud” Leer. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m.-10:45 a.m. Monday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-3284 where funeral services celebrating the life of Arlene Z. Woods will begin at 11 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Michael Klafehn of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at English Prairie Cemetery in Howe, Ind. The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mrs. Woods’ memory consider the White Pigeon Band Boosters c/o: Mrs. Denise Lewis, 301 S. Mr. Iezzi was born December 28, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan the son of the late Joseph and the late Santa Iezzi. Surviving Mr. Iezzi is his beloved wife, Jackie. He is the dear father of Joseph Iezzi, Donna Schmidt, Cindy Cairns, Daniel Jr. (Jenny) Iezzi, Kathy Iezzi, and Shari Cheick. He is the brother of Ida (Paul) Dettloff, and the late Orlando, and Joseph Iezzi. Also survived by 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and his precious companion KiKi. Daniel was cherished and loved by all who knew him. Visitation for Mr. Iezzi will be Sunday from 3-9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Rosary Service, at the D.S. He was a 1954 graduate of Adrian High School and a veteran of the United States Army serving from 1961 to 1965. James worked for Ford Motor Company and retired July 1, 1998 from Dura Corporation in Adrian after 23 years of service. His passion was sports, especially baseball and the New York Yankees. James is survived by two nephews, Kevin Crow and Kirk Allen Crow. Besides his parents, James was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Crow. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian, with the Rev. Lloyd Jewett officiating. She lived in Hobart and eventually moved and lived in the Fremont, Ind. area. Jenny was an animal lover and she also enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. Survivors include husband Bill Jones of Fremont, Ind., sister Cynthia Ziegele of Fishers, Ind., brother Matthew and Mary Hill of Louisville, Kent., nieces and nephews Elizabeth Navarro, Jason, Michael and Kelcie Hill and great nephew J.T. Navarro. She was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, 1009 at Beams Funeral home in Fremont, Ind. Jose “Joe” Villegas, 93, of Blissfield passed away on Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at University Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich. He was born on Dec. 29, 1915 in New Braunfels, Texas, the son of Vidal and Roberta (Suarez) Villegas. Joe married Altena Nelson on Jan. 6, 1943, in Standish, Mich. Joe was a real “gentle” man, having nothing but good to say about people he met. He enjoyed having his garden in earlier years and loved his game shows on television at home. He was a great dancer and loved to go dancing at the Eagles Club in Adrian with a special friend, Rosa. Joe also enjoyed going to the mall to sit and visit with his mall buddies. He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Blissfield and he loved his family as we loved him and he will be greatly missed. Surviving are his two sons, Jerry (Sandy) Villegas of Blissfield and Jimmy (Connie) Villegas of Adrian; six grandchildren, Joshua Villegas, Jeremy (Melissa) Villegas, Cindy (Oscar) Guerra, Joe (Wendy) Medina, Bergen (Chris) Trechter and Michelle Vasquez; eight great-grandchildren, Tyler, Branden, Steven, Gaby, Kelsy, Devin, Payton and Charlie; two sisters-in-law, Julie and Petra Villegas; two brothers-in-law, Lawrence and Lowell Nelson, and several nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Altena Villegas; a daughter, Nancy Vasquez; four brothers, Fernando, Vincent, Daniel and Nickolas Villegas; and three sisters, Eva Mota, Eleanor Kelk and Guadalupe Villegas. Funeral services for Joe will be held on Friday, Dec. 18, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Blissfield with the Rev. Michael Mayo-Moyle officiating. Burial will follow in Riga Cemetery in Riga Township. Visitation will take place on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tagsold Funeral Home in Blissfield, and after 10 a.m. at the church on Friday. Kenneth Wayne Frahm, age 66, of Battle Creek, met his Lord and Savior on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009. He passed away at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence following a three year journey with ALS. Wayne’s positive attitude, inner peace and strength he showed during his ALS journey radiated God’s love and grace. He was an inspiration to all who met him. Wayne was born in Hillsdale on April 30, 1943 and was the son of Kenneth William Frahm and Rowena Marvel Castner. He grew-up on a farm near Quincy. Wayne graduated from Reading High School in 1961. He attended Tri-State University, where he received a Certificate of Drafting and Design in 1964. Also, Wayne received an Associate Degree from Kellogg Community College in 1995. He served his country as a draftsman in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967. Wayne was employed for the Defense Logistics Information Service at the Hart-Dole-Inouye Federal Center, Battle Creek, as a Supply Systems Analyst in Air Force and Army Cataloging, retiring in December of 2006 with 25 years of federal service. He was formerly employed for 16 years at Clark Equipment in the High Rise Warehousing Systems Division. Wayne was a current member of Faith Baptist Church of Battle Creek. He was also a former member of the Calvary Baptist Church and the Battle Creek Bible Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, youth leader and camp coordinator. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, gardening, camping and biking. On June 7, 1969, in Athens, Wayne was united in marriage to the former Martha Jean Hyde. In addition to his wife of 40 years, he is survived by his three children, Alan (Sally) Frahm of Grand Rapids, Eric Frahm of Battle Creek and Rachel (James) Leith of Baltimore, Md.; six grandchildren, Cordell, Janelle, Wyatt and Elliott Frahm and Christian and Wesley Leith and his sister, Wava Jean Gano of Quincy. He was preceded in death by his parents. At the request of his family, friends may call on Sunday, Dec. 20 from 3-6 p.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek. The funeral service to celebrate Wayne’s life will be held on Monday, Dec. 21 at 11 a.m. at the Faith Baptist Church, 13840 S. Helmer Road, Battle Creek, MI, 49015, with Pastors Jim Augustine and Glenn Huisinga officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Quincy. Mary Raine, age 99, of Blissfield passed away Dec. 14, 2009, at Blissfield Place surrounded by her family. Mary was born June 21, 1910, to James and Josephine Sedlacek in Chicago, Ill. On Oct. 3, 1931, she married Albert D. Raine in Chicago. He preceded her in death in 1935. Mary worked at Faraday in Tecumseh. For many years she worked on the family farm. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, playing table games, polka dancing, Czechoslovakian cooking and listening to Czechoslovakian (polka) music. Mary is survived by a daughter-in-law, Dianna Raine; sister, Josephine (Rudolph) Mravec; sister-in-law, Mary Sedlacek; grandson, Chad Raine; granddaughter, Tammy (Charles) Davison of Las Vegas; great-granddaughter, Jamie (Chris) Rubeis of Las Vegas; great-great-grandson, Antonio Rubeis, and nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Albert; her brothers, James, Joseph, Jerry and Frank Sedlacek. Following Mary’s wishes cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009 at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Hospice of Lenawee or an organization of the donor’s choice. Mavis Louise Blair, 83, passed away Monday, Dec. 14, 2009 at Battle Creek Health System. She was born July 9, 1926 in Evanston, Ill. to Albert F. and Maude E. (Church) Marunde.  Some of the things that she enjoyed included gardening, reading and staying up all night watching Emeril Lagasse or Paula Dean on the Food Network Channel. Mavis was an extremely talented artist and many of her works decorate the walls of relative’s homes. She took great interest and pride in the lives and accomplishments of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her house was full of love and she had a heart of gold. She will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents. Merle K. Cox Jr., 69, of Hudson, passed away Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Lenawee County.  He was born Nov. 8, 1940, in Morenci, the son of Merle F. and Viola (Rudolph) Cox Sr.  He married Vergie (Borton) on Jan. 28, 1961, in Hudson and she survives. Merle retired as a plant supervisor for M & S Mfg. in Hudson in 2001, with over 40 years of service. His hobbies included woodworking, tinkering in the workshop on his son, Dean's excavating equipment and was an avid race fan, helping Fisher's Racing Team at Oakshade Raceway. Merle dearly loved his family and his grandchildren were the love of his life. Surviving Merle besides his wife, Vergie of 48 years are four children, Mark Cox of Adrian, Lynda (Michael) Hepker of Mackinac Island, Dean (Sandy) Cox of Hudson and Shane Cox of Hudson; one sister, Velda Reynolds of Lorain, Ohio; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.   He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Barbara Brown. At Merle's request cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or services. He was born May 26, 1939, in Adrian, the son of Roscoe C. and Cecil (Cadoo) Wilson. He married Janice Swiegart Sept. 3, 1960, in Hudson and she survives. Mert was a self-employed truck driver for M. Wilson Trucking, retiring in 2006, with over 40 years of service. He graduated from Hudson High School Class of 1957, was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Thursday Afternoon Men's Golf League, Tuesday Morning Seniors Golf League and was proud to be a teammate on the 1956 State Championship Football Team in Hudson. Mert enjoyed golf, Hudson football, traveling and dearly loved his wife, children and grandchildren. Surviving Mert besides his wife of 49 years, Jan, are two daughters, Teresa (Scott) Frantz of Hudson and Cathy Johnston of Columbus, Ohio; two sons, Charles Wilson of Hudson and Steve (Amy) Wilson of Delta, Ohio; three brothers, Roscoe G. "Jerry" (Pat) Wilson of Manitou Beach, Ray (Donna) Wilson of Hudson and Richard (Peggy) Wilson of Adrian; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; honorary sister, Carrie Jones of Pittsford, and special friend Phelix Wright of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Larry Wilson. Mass of Christian Burial for Mert will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hudson with Fr. H. She was born Jan. 9, 1917 in Hillsdale to George and Flora (Reynolds) Underhill. She was married April 30, 1934 to Kenneth Emerick and he preceded her in death in 1995. Mildred was a home care giver, a wife, mother and grandmother. To Millie, her family was the center of her life. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsdale. Surviving are two children, Paula (Curtis) Dora of Jonesville and Steven (Cheryl) Emerich of Bellfair, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two daughters, Mary Lou Emerich and Sondra Rinker. Memorial services for Mildred Emerick will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsdale with Pastor Patti Beckman and the Rev. Richard Thorp officiating. Pauline Pringnitz Krauseneck Pauline Pringnitz Krauseneck. Beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on December 5, 2009 at the age of 84. She was born in Mt. Clemens, Michigan to Emma (Weber) and Paul Pringnitz. She had two sisters: Grace Ann (Bannow) now deceased, and Jean A. Krauseneck of Mt. Clemens. Pauline's grandfather August had moved to Michigan in 1879 at the age of 12 from Germany. After graduating from Eastern Michigan University she married her high school sweetheart, Jim, in 1947. They raised their family in Mt. Clemens where the 3rd generation Krauseneck's Carpet and Drapery business was located. She was active with the Presbyterian Church, the Cancer Society and the Mt. Clemens Art Center. A move to St. Clair, Michigan in the early 1970s allowed for more golf, bridge, boating and friends. Her family was always the most important to her. She welcomed her visiting grandchildren with open arms. When Jim retired, they moved to Washington and wintered in Arizona which kept their lives busy with family and a trail of friends. She is survived by her husband, Jim; sister, Jean Krauseneck; daughter, Mary Ann Kirkby (husband Rick); son, Jim Krauseneck (wife Sharon); and her grandchildren, Sara Ann Young, Ryan Kirkby, Andrew Kirkby and Kristen Kirkby. Phillip Ross Seybert, 85, of Sturgis, Mich., and a former long-time resident of Burr Oak passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning, Dec. 12, 2009, at his home. He was born Feb. 11, 1924, in Scott, Ind., a son to the late Fred and Blanche (Bowerman) Seybert Sr. On Sept. 4, 1946, he married June Phyllis Orr in Adrian. She died Sept. 27, 2007. Phil was a graduate of Scott High School with the class of 1941. Following is graduation from high school he attended South Bend Business College. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and after completing radio school at Northwestern University in Chicago, he was assigned to the USS Litchfield based at Pearl Harbor. Phil was later transferred to the rebuilt USS Holland where he served on the staff of Admiral Lockwood, Commander of the Pacific Submarine fleet. After World War II, Phil returned to St. Joseph County where he farmed and managed Seybert’s Feed and Grain in Burr Oak until the business was sold. Phil was a truck driver by trade and had driven for Seybert Inc., Grady Motor Freight, Days Transfer, O.I.M. and Indianhead Truck Line where he retired in 1982. Phil was an active resident of Burr Oak serving on the Burr Oak School Board, Burr Oak Township Board and he was a member and past board member of the Burr Oak United Methodist Church. He was proud to be a life member of the LaGrange American Legion in LaGrange, Indiana and Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW in Sturgis. He always had a strong feeling of support for the military men and women and he financially supported many military groups. The center of his life was always his family; his children and grandchildren knew him as a wonderful father and grandfather. He is survived by one daughter, Phyllis (Craig) Wood of Pensacola, Fla.; one son, David (Diana) Seybert of Portage; four grandchildren, Lt. Col. Rick Fojtik, Leann Rogers, Chris Seybert and Kendra Townsend; three great-grandchildren, Shannon Fojtik, Emily June Fojtik and Ava Diane Townsend; one brother, Bill (Estelle) Seybert of White Pigeon; one sister, Lydia Wittenberg of White Pigeon; brother-in-law, Bruce Orr of Adrian and many wonderful friends and nieces and nephews. His parents; wife; one sister, Alice Jane Sherman; and two brothers, Howard Seybert and Fred Seybert Jr. preceded him in death. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Philip Seybert will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Burr Oak United Methodist Church. The Rev. Donald Graham will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at the Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak. Full military rites will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. He was a member of the Moorepark Community Church in Three Rivers and enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding in his restored Mustang with his wife, ‘55 Chevies, NASCAR and most of all spending time with his children and grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Peggy L. Roberts Peteris Gudrups, 98, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Sunday morning, Dec. 13, 2009, at his home. He was born Aug.3, 1911, in Latvia, a son to the late Ernest and Latte Gudrups. Mr. Gudrups had had resided in Sturgis for the past 51 years coming from Germany where he lived for 15 years. His early life was spent in Latvia. He was married to Emilija P. Upmanis who preceded him in death. In 1974, he retired from the Kirsch Company in Sturgis where all of his friends knew him as “Bob”. He had spent the last 50 years planting and caring for his flowers and trees at his “Paradise” on the three acres of his land. He is survived by his loving family, daughter, Vija (Theo) Vredeveld, Wyoming, Mich.; son, Andy Gudrups of Sturgis; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, all of Grand Rapids; sister,  Amanda Gulbe of Latvia; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lilija and Jacques Keeslar of Sturgis. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Roberts P. Gudrups will be held at his home at a later date in the spring of 2010. Rosene Elizabeth Baker Pierce, 104, died in Hospice Compassionate Care in Richmond, Ky. on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2009. She was born and raised in Hillsdale County, the daughter of Fred and Addie Bradley Baker. She was loved and respected by all who knew her in her long life. Before her marriage to Clark M. Pierce in 1929, Rosene taught for 5 years in a country, one-room, eight-grades schoolhouse. With her husband, a high school science and agriculture teacher, she lived in Romeo, Mich. where their two children were born. When parents Harold and Gertrude Pierce died at their land grant farm in lower Michigan, Clark and Rosene moved there and took over the chicken hatchery business and later, also raised Herford steers. Rosene was a member of the North Adams First Baptist Church, Country Women’s Improvement Club and the North Adams Women’s Club. She became Worthy Matron of the OES (Order of the Eastern Star). After her husband’s death in 1993, Rosene moved to Kentucky to be with her daughter. She visited the Richmond, Ky. Senior Center for many years where she made many friends. She lived at Assisted Living McCready Manor for 11 years before health problems caused her to move to Telford Terrace. Rosene was a lover of classical music, beautiful pressed glass, crocheter of many afghans for family members and Project Linus, and a wonderful cook. A special joy at her 100th birthday party was a rumble-seat ride down Main St. Richmond with Ray DeSloover at the wheel of his Model A Ford, a key to the city and a proclamation given her by Mayor Connie Lawson. Preceding her in death were her father and mother, two brothers and one sister. Surviving are one daughter, Joan Lorna Boewe (Karl-Heinz) of Richmond and one son, Dr. Fredrick H. Pierce (Mary Jo) of North Salem, Ind.; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Rosene Elizabeth Pierce will be held at the First Baptist Church in North Adams 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12 with the Reverend Fred Jensen officiating. Rosene will then be laid to rest in the Northlawn Cemetery in North Adams. The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Good Samaritan Fund of St. Andrews Place in Richmond, Ky.

Russell LaVern Shutts Jr., 61 of Quincy and formerly of Fremont, ind. died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009 at the Community Health Center of Branch County in Coldwater. He was born Aug. 10, 1948 in Angola, Ind. to Russell LaVern and Mildred (Arnold) Shutts, Sr. He married Bonnie (Hall) on July 3, 1971. She survives in Quincy. He retired from Walker Manufacturing of Litchfield in 2005.  He was a 1966 graduate of Fremont High School. He enjoyed playing poker and going to Las Vegas to the casinos, he enjoyed fishing, he was a big Green Bay Packer Fan, he enjoyed playing video games, enjoyed his family, his loving wife, children and grandchildren.  Survivors include his wife Bonnie Shutts of Quincy, daughters: Sandy Shutts of Quincy, Kandy Smith of Coldwater and Joy  DeLong of Coldwater, son Roy and Melissa Shutts of Bronson, brother Richard and Margaret Shutts of Fremont, Ind., sister Mary Ann Ernsberger of Seymour, Tenn. and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Tammy Shutts. Visitation will take place from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Ind.  A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2009 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Ind. Sally A. Hagenbuch, 83, of Blissfield passed away Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, at Blissfield Place. Sally was born on Jan. 18, 1926, in Battle Creek, Mich., the daughter of Fredrick and Alieen Seaver. She was married on Sept. 10, 1949, to Warren M. Hagenbuch, who preceded her in death in 2007.  Sally work for 30 years as a veterinarian in Blissfield. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Blissfield, the Blissfield Garden Club, and was a long-time member of the Blissfield Library Board. She also did volunteer work at the Toledo Zoo. In her free time, Sally enjoyed gardening, fishing, and sewing and needlework. Surviving are two sons, Warren (Jacalyn) Hagenbuch of Westborough, Mass., and Douglas (Lou Ann) Hagenbuch of Deerfield; and eight grandchildren, Whitni and Peter Jones, Christopher and Sheeba Rajaei Hagenbuch, Heather and Jacob Stoker, Ryan Hagenbuch and Brooke Hagenbuch.  Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Blissfield. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Blissfield. Visiting hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tagsold Funeral Home in Blissfield. Violet C. Miller, age 96, of Albion, passed away Nov. 28, 2009 at Tendercare of Albion.  She was born Feb. 18, 1913, in Hillsdale County to Delbert and Chrissie (Perkins) Britton. She had worked in the Cambria area in 1968. When she moved to Albion, she worked as a laundress at Home Laundry. For 28 years Violet was married to Frank Parney who preceded her in death in 1960. In 1972, she married Robert “Bert” Miller who survives. She was a member of Leisure Hour Club in Albion. Violet enjoyed hunting, cooking and  baking, sewing and gardening. Survivors include: husband, Robert “Bert” Miller; daughter, Donelta Day and son, Junior and Martha Parney, all of Albion; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Parney; one brother, Ernest Britton; one half-brother, Garford Britton and half-sister, Audrey Seward. Funeral services are 11 a.m.Wednesday, at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home,811 Finley Drive, Albion, with the Rev. Walter Hicks officiating. Interment will be at Cambria 1 Cemetery.
