Alberta M. Shue Alberta M. Shue, age 84, of Harrison Township, passed away Tuesday at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, Warren. She was born February 8, 1925, in Hope Township, Michigan. Mrs. Shue enjoyed being with her family. Surviving are five children, Glen Shue, Al (Sandy) Shue, Patrick (Barbara) Shue, Brian Shue and Vicki (Donald) Victory; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and five siblings. Alberta was predeceased by her husband, Sidney, and six children, John, Calvin, Annette, William, Diana and Ronald. Visiting hours at Will and Schwarzkoff Funeral Home, 233 NB Gratiot, Mount Clemens will be from 2:30-9 p.m., Thursday. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East, Clinton Township.

Honora Szykula Honora Szykula, 90, of Eastpointe, died December 15, 2009. She was born August 22, 1919, in Hamtramck. On October 7, 1939, she married Mitchell Szykula in Hamtramck. She was a former supply technician for Warren Tank Arsenal. Honora enjoyed traveling, board games and playing cards, especially bridge. She spent many winters in Brownsville, Texas, where she tutored Hispanic children with their English. Honora is survived by her daughters, Sandra (Robert) Jarosz of Byron and Denise (Bill) Giordano of Eastpointe; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband Mitchell, parents, Stanley and Mary (nee Sluszarz) Zielonka and brothers, Felix and Edward Szykula. She was born on May 21, 1925, to Louis and Bertha (Fisher) Kish. Lillian was raised in the downriver area and graduated from River Rouge High School in 1943 with honors. She was employed by the Wayne County Draft Board as a clerk typist for many years. In 1963, Lillian and her family moved to Sterling Heights, Mich. She and her husband Richard were charter members of Redemption Lutheran Church of Sterling Heights. Lillian taught Sunday school for many years, sang in the choir, was actively involved in Bible study and was a member of the Lozen Pinochle Club. She is survived by her husband, Richard R. Haneckow; children, Mark Hickey of Southgate, Mich., Gregg Haneckow of Warren, daughter Chris LeNay Aragona of Macomb and stepdaughter Sheryl Haneckow of Harbor Springs, Mich.; three grandchildren, Caterina Aragona, Geoff and Rachele Haneckow; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Helen Berger and Esther Baki; brothers, Steven and Eugene Kish. On Aug. 5, 1948, she married Robert J. Schwartz. He preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 1991. Mary was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Christian Mothers. She had been a volunteer at Bixby Hospital for 30 years. Mary is survived by two sons, James (Pam) Schwartz of Adrian and Matthew (Laura) Schwartz of Adrian; four daughters, Cecelia “Ceal” Schwartz of Adrian, Marian (Wayland) Echelbarger of Adrian, Barbara (Richie) Gallatin of Sand Creek and Ann (Robert) Love of Adrian; a sister, Kathryn Venia of Tecumseh; brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws, Richard McLaughlin of Adrian, Ken and Genny Schwartz of Adrian, Catherine Wielfaert of Britton and Roger Scheuerman of Holland; 14 grandchildren, Kathryn, Sarah and Robert Love, Margaret Echelbarger, Andrea, Megan and Jessica Gallatin, Michelle and Daniel Schwartz, Matthew and Paul Schwartz, and Robert, Hannah and Jacob Schwartz. In addition to her husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Charles Schwartz; three sisters, Helen Williamson, Thelma Dempsey, and Frances McLaughlin; and two brothers, Frederick Burkert and Henry Burkert. The Funeral Liturgy for Mary will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. David Hudgins as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Mavis Louise Blair, 83, passed away Monday, Dec. 14, 2009 at Battle Creek Health System. She was born July 9, 1926 in Evanston, Ill. to Albert F. and Maude E. (Church) Marunde.  Some of the things that she enjoyed included gardening, reading and staying up all night watching Emeril Lagasse or Paula Dean on the Food Network Channel. Mavis was an extremely talented artist and many of her works decorate the walls of relative’s homes. She took great interest and pride in the lives and accomplishments of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her house was full of love and she had a heart of gold. She will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents. Merle K. Cox Jr., 69, of Hudson, passed away Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Lenawee County.  He was born Nov. 8, 1940, in Morenci, the son of Merle F. and Viola (Rudolph) Cox Sr.  He married Vergie (Borton) on Jan. 28, 1961, in Hudson and she survives. Merle retired as a plant supervisor for M & S Mfg. in Hudson in 2001, with over 40 years of service. His hobbies included woodworking, tinkering in the workshop on his son, Dean's excavating equipment and was an avid race fan, helping Fisher's Racing Team at Oakshade Raceway. Merle dearly loved his family and his grandchildren were the love of his life. Surviving Merle besides his wife, Vergie of 48 years are four children, Mark Cox of Adrian, Lynda (Michael) Hepker of Mackinac Island, Dean (Sandy) Cox of Hudson and Shane Cox of Hudson; one sister, Velda Reynolds of Lorain, Ohio; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.   He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Barbara Brown. At Merle's request cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or services. He was born May 26, 1939, in Adrian, the son of Roscoe C. and Cecil (Cadoo) Wilson. He married Janice Swiegart Sept. 3, 1960, in Hudson and she survives. Mert was a self-employed truck driver for M. Wilson Trucking, retiring in 2006, with over 40 years of service. He graduated from Hudson High School Class of 1957, was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Thursday Afternoon Men's Golf League, Tuesday Morning Seniors Golf League and was proud to be a teammate on the 1956 State Championship Football Team in Hudson. Mert enjoyed golf, Hudson football, traveling and dearly loved his wife, children and grandchildren. Surviving Mert besides his wife of 49 years, Jan, are two daughters, Teresa (Scott) Frantz of Hudson and Cathy Johnston of Columbus, Ohio; two sons, Charles Wilson of Hudson and Steve (Amy) Wilson of Delta, Ohio; three brothers, Roscoe G. "Jerry" (Pat) Wilson of Manitou Beach, Ray (Donna) Wilson of Hudson and Richard (Peggy) Wilson of Adrian; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; honorary sister, Carrie Jones of Pittsford, and special friend Phelix Wright of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Larry Wilson. Mass of Christian Burial for Mert will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hudson with Fr. H. Surviving are two children, Paula (Curtis) Dora of Jonesville and Steven (Cheryl) Emerich of Bellfair, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Phillip Ross Seybert, 85, of Sturgis, Mich., and a former long-time resident of Burr Oak passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning, Dec. 12, 2009, at his home. He was born Feb. 11, 1924, in Scott, Ind., a son to the late Fred and Blanche (Bowerman) Seybert Sr. On Sept. 4, 1946, he married June Phyllis Orr in Adrian. She died Sept. 27, 2007. Phil was a graduate of Scott High School with the class of 1941. Following is graduation from high school he attended South Bend Business College. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and after completing radio school at Northwestern University in Chicago, he was assigned to the USS Litchfield based at Pearl Harbor. Phil was later transferred to the rebuilt USS Holland where he served on the staff of Admiral Lockwood, Commander of the Pacific Submarine fleet. After World War II, Phil returned to St. Joseph County where he farmed and managed Seybert’s Feed and Grain in Burr Oak until the business was sold. Phil was a truck driver by trade and had driven for Seybert Inc., Grady Motor Freight, Days Transfer, O.I.M. and Indianhead Truck Line where he retired in 1982. Phil was an active resident of Burr Oak serving on the Burr Oak School Board, Burr Oak Township Board and he was a member and past board member of the Burr Oak United Methodist Church. He was proud to be a life member of the LaGrange American Legion in LaGrange, Indiana and Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW in Sturgis. He always had a strong feeling of support for the military men and women and he financially supported many military groups. The center of his life was always his family; his children and grandchildren knew him as a wonderful father and grandfather. He is survived by one daughter, Phyllis (Craig) Wood of Pensacola, Fla.; one son, David (Diana) Seybert of Portage; four grandchildren, Lt. Col. Rick Fojtik, Leann Rogers, Chris Seybert and Kendra Townsend; three great-grandchildren, Shannon Fojtik, Emily June Fojtik and Ava Diane Townsend; one brother, Bill (Estelle) Seybert of White Pigeon; one sister, Lydia Wittenberg of White Pigeon; brother-in-law, Bruce Orr of Adrian and many wonderful friends and nieces and nephews. His parents; wife; one sister, Alice Jane Sherman; and two brothers, Howard Seybert and Fred Seybert Jr. preceded him in death. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Philip Seybert will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Burr Oak United Methodist Church. The Rev. Donald Graham will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at the Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak. Full military rites will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Green in Sturgis. He was the owner and operator, with his wife, of Buscher Lawn Mowing and Landscaing since 2003. He was a production manager and designed for Luxliner in Sturgis for 17 years. He was a member of the Moorepark Community Church in Three Rivers and enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding in his restored Mustang with his wife, ‘55 Chevies, NASCAR and most of all spending time with his children and grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Peggy L. Buscher of Grass Lake; daughter, Leah Buscher of Sturgis; son, Warren (Corky)and Holli Buscher of Sturgis; three grandchildren, Jacob German, Kendall and Kaylynn Buscher; mother, Joanna L. Drew of Centreville; brother, Steven (Anita)Buscher of Centreville; two sisters, Patricia (Jack)Romine of Casa Grande, Ariz., Brenda (Ed)Iannarelli of South Daytona Beach, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Moorepark Community Church, 55701 Wilbur Road, Three Rivers, with Pastor Ken Miller officiating. Private burial of cremains will be in Prairie River Cemetery, Centreville. Rita was born Sept. 24, 1942, in Colon a daughter to the late Wilfred M. and Patience M. (Sprowl) Wing. Rita grew up in Colon, graduating from Colon High School with the Class of 1960. Later she had lived in Mendon and Centreville, moving to Wellston in 2004. On May 18, 1963, she married Kenneth T. Brandys in Mendon. She had worked for Montgomery Wards in Sturgis, later as a bank teller for Citizens Bank in Colon and also at the Leonidas Bank, for Universal Motor Coach of Sturgis, and also for Syndicate Store Fixtures of Sturgis. Rita enjoyed collecting antiques, cooking, traveling and especially time spent with her children and grandchildren. Wing of Colon; step-mother,  Betty Wing of Englewood, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Schipper Funeral Home LTD. in Colon. Funeral services celebrating the life of Rita J. Roberts Peteris Gudrups, 98, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Sunday morning, Dec. 13, 2009, at his home. He was born Aug.3, 1911, in Latvia, a son to the late Ernest and Latte Gudrups. Mr. Gudrups had had resided in Sturgis for the past 51 years coming from Germany where he lived for 15 years. His early life was spent in Latvia. He was married to Emilija P. Upmanis who preceded him in death. In 1974, he retired from the Kirsch Company in Sturgis where all of his friends knew him as “Bob”. He had spent the last 50 years planting and caring for his flowers and trees at his “Paradise” on the three acres of his land. He is survived by his loving family, daughter, Vija (Theo) Vredeveld, Wyoming, Mich.; son, Andy Gudrups of Sturgis; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, all of Grand Rapids; sister,  Amanda Gulbe of Latvia; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lilija and Jacques Keeslar of Sturgis. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Roberts P. Gudrups will be held at his home at a later date in the spring of 2010. Rosene Elizabeth Baker Pierce, 104, died in Hospice Compassionate Care in Richmond, Ky. on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2009. She was born and raised in Hillsdale County, the daughter of Fred and Addie Bradley Baker. She was loved and respected by all who knew her in her long life. Before her marriage to Clark M. Pierce in 1929, Rosene taught for 5 years in a country, one-room, eight-grades schoolhouse. With her husband, a high school science and agriculture teacher, she lived in Romeo, Mich. where their two children were born. When parents Harold and Gertrude Pierce died at their land grant farm in lower Michigan, Clark and Rosene moved there and took over the chicken hatchery business and later, also raised Herford steers. Rosene was a member of the North Adams First Baptist Church, Country Women’s Improvement Club and the North Adams Women’s Club. She became Worthy Matron of the OES (Order of the Eastern Star). After her husband’s death in 1993, Rosene moved to Kentucky to be with her daughter. She visited the Richmond, Ky. Senior Center for many years where she made many friends. She lived at Assisted Living McCready Manor for 11 years before health problems caused her to move to Telford Terrace. Rosene was a lover of classical music, beautiful pressed glass, crocheter of many afghans for family members and Project Linus, and a wonderful cook. A special joy at her 100th birthday party was a rumble-seat ride down Main St. Richmond with Ray DeSloover at the wheel of his Model A Ford, a key to the city and a proclamation given her by Mayor Connie Lawson. Preceding her in death were her father and mother, two brothers and one sister. Surviving are one daughter, Joan Lorna Boewe (Karl-Heinz) of Richmond and one son, Dr. Fredrick H. Pierce (Mary Jo) of North Salem, Ind.; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Rosene Elizabeth Pierce will be held at the First Baptist Church in North Adams 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12 with the Reverend Fred Jensen officiating. Rosene will then be laid to rest in the Northlawn Cemetery in North Adams. The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Good Samaritan Fund of St. Andrews Place in Richmond, Ky.

She graduated from New Carlisle High School in 1954. She and Howard M. Street were married on June 11, 1955 in South Bend, Ind. She worked for many years at Otto & Sons Sporting Goods Store in Coldwater. In 2002, Roxie and Howard moved permanently to Quartz Hill, Calif. Roxie stayed busy traveling and sharing her time between her grandchildren in Coldwater and California   She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 1, in Coldwater and Valley View Church of Nazarene in Quartz Hills, Calif. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Howard of Quartz Hill, Calif., son and daughter-law John and Renee Street, Bakersfield, Calif., son and daughter-in-law Dennis and Karen Street, Coldwater, daughter and son-in-law Lori and Brian Moore, Quartz Hill, Calif. and sister Peggy Ritschard of South Bend, Ind.; eight grandchildren: Rachel, Michael, Benjamin, Jason, Riley, Wendy, Brandon and Sean and numerous nieces and nephews.  She leaves us with fond memories of her special holiday dinners, jams, legendary pies and her special red velvet cake. Along with the memories with Roxie, include trips to the Florida Everglades, mushroom hunting in Mesick and many trips to the warm beaches of Southern California. Roxie will always be cherished in the hearts of her family. She may be gone, but she certainly isn’t forgotten — and never will be. Services are private at the family’s request. A heartfelt thank you to the staff of Antelope Valley Hospital, Antelope Valley Care Center and Antelope Valley Hospice.

He enjoyed playing poker and going to Las Vegas to the casinos, he enjoyed fishing, he was a big Green Bay Packer Fan, he enjoyed playing video games, enjoyed his family, his loving wife, children and grandchildren.  Survivors include his wife Bonnie Shutts of Quincy, daughters: Sandy Shutts of Quincy, Kandy Smith of Coldwater and Joy  DeLong of Coldwater, son Roy and Melissa Shutts of Bronson, brother Richard and Margaret Shutts of Fremont, Ind., sister Mary Ann Ernsberger of Seymour, Tenn. and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Tammy Shutts. Sister Felicia Haidysz, formerly known as Felicia Veronica Haidysz, died on Dec. 13, 2009, at the Dominican Life Center. She was 93 years of age and in the 75th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation. Sister Felicia was born in Biddeford, Maine, to Andrew and Anna (Michniewicz) Haidysz. She graduated from Gagetown High School in Gagetown, Mich., and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Latin and a Master of Education Degree in Administration from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian. Sister spent 16 years ministering in education in Adrian, Ypsilanti, Detroit, Ruth and Utica, Mich.; Joliet and Elmwood Park, Ill. She did the Parish Census in Cincinnati, Ohio, for two years. Sister was Administrator and Nurse for 13 years at St. Rose de Lima Hospital in Henderson, Nev. She was also a Nurse at St. Theresa Home in Cincinnati for three years. From 1969 to 1977 Sister ministered at Dominican Santa Cruz Hospital in Santa Cruz, Calif., in various positions: Administrative Assistant, Nurse, Pastoral Care Minister and Secretary to the Medical Staff. She was Secretary for the Central Services and Office of Information in Adrian from 1977 to 1998. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 1998. Sister Felicia is survived by loving nieces and nephews. Visitation is from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, in the Rose Room at the Dominican Life Center, followed by Vigil Prayer at 7 p.m. in St. Catherine Chapel. The Funeral Liturgy will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2009. Burial will be in the Congregation cemetery.
