She loved spending time with her grandchildren and following the Detroit Tigers. Born in Santa Rosa, Calif., he attended and graduated with his Masters Degree from M.I.T. in Aeronautical Engineering. He concluded his career with NASA working on unmanned space flight projects. He was a member of the Ohio State Professional Engineers and Surveyors, The Heritage Foundation, ASME, Association of Alumni of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology, Railroad and Historical Society of North West Michigan, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, and the Grand Traverse Pioneer and Historical Society in Traverse City, Mich. In addition, he was a member of the Faith Reformed Church of Traverse City. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Martha Ellen Kennard. He is survived by his son, James (Kathleen), DeLand, Fla.; daughters, Mary Lou (Leonard) Croteau, DeBary, Fla., Dr. Margaret Anne Kennard, Saint Clair Shores, Mich., Martha Jeanne (Forrest) Bowling, Byron Center, Mich.; sister, Margaret Kennard-Johnson, Princeton, New Jersey; nieces, Lonnie Sue and Aline Marie Johnson, Princeton, New Jersey; four grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren. A summer memorial service will be planned for a date in the future. He especially enjoyed his dog "Buz." Roberts Peteris Gudrups, 98, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Sunday morning, Dec. 13, 2009, at his home. He was born Aug.3, 1911, in Latvia, a son to the late Ernest and Latte Gudrups. Mr. Gudrups had had resided in Sturgis for the past 51 years coming from Germany where he lived for 15 years. His early life was spent in Latvia. He was married to Emilija P. Upmanis who preceded him in death. In 1974, he retired from the Kirsch Company in Sturgis where all of his friends knew him as “Bob”. He had spent the last 50 years planting and caring for his flowers and trees at his “Paradise” on the three acres of his land. He is survived by his loving family, daughter, Vija (Theo) Vredeveld, Wyoming, Mich.; son, Andy Gudrups of Sturgis; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, all of Grand Rapids; sister,  Amanda Gulbe of Latvia; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lilija and Jacques Keeslar of Sturgis. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Roberts P. Gudrups will be held at his home at a later date in the spring of 2010. Rosene Elizabeth Baker Pierce, 104, died in Hospice Compassionate Care in Richmond, Ky. on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2009. She was born and raised in Hillsdale County, the daughter of Fred and Addie Bradley Baker. She was loved and respected by all who knew her in her long life. Before her marriage to Clark M. Pierce in 1929, Rosene taught for 5 years in a country, one-room, eight-grades schoolhouse. With her husband, a high school science and agriculture teacher, she lived in Romeo, Mich. where their two children were born. When parents Harold and Gertrude Pierce died at their land grant farm in lower Michigan, Clark and Rosene moved there and took over the chicken hatchery business and later, also raised Herford steers. Rosene was a member of the North Adams First Baptist Church, Country Women’s Improvement Club and the North Adams Women’s Club. She became Worthy Matron of the OES (Order of the Eastern Star). After her husband’s death in 1993, Rosene moved to Kentucky to be with her daughter. She visited the Richmond, Ky. Senior Center for many years where she made many friends. She lived at Assisted Living McCready Manor for 11 years before health problems caused her to move to Telford Terrace. Rosene was a lover of classical music, beautiful pressed glass, crocheter of many afghans for family members and Project Linus, and a wonderful cook. A special joy at her 100th birthday party was a rumble-seat ride down Main St. Richmond with Ray DeSloover at the wheel of his Model A Ford, a key to the city and a proclamation given her by Mayor Connie Lawson. Preceding her in death were her father and mother, two brothers and one sister. Surviving are one daughter, Joan Lorna Boewe (Karl-Heinz) of Richmond and one son, Dr. Fredrick H. Pierce (Mary Jo) of North Salem, Ind.; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Rosene Elizabeth Pierce will be held at the First Baptist Church in North Adams 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12 with the Reverend Fred Jensen officiating. Rosene will then be laid to rest in the Northlawn Cemetery in North Adams. The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Good Samaritan Fund of St. Andrews Place in Richmond, Ky.

Roxie June Roush Street, 73 of Quartz Hills, Calif., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009. She was born in South Bend, Ind. on Jan. 11, 1936 to the late John and Lucille Roush. She graduated from New Carlisle High School in 1954. She and Howard M. Street were married on June 11, 1955 in South Bend, Ind. She worked for many years at Otto & Sons Sporting Goods Store in Coldwater. In 2002, Roxie and Howard moved permanently to Quartz Hill, Calif. Roxie stayed busy traveling and sharing her time between her grandchildren in Coldwater and California   She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 1, in Coldwater and Valley View Church of Nazarene in Quartz Hills, Calif. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Howard of Quartz Hill, Calif., son and daughter-law John and Renee Street, Bakersfield, Calif., son and daughter-in-law Dennis and Karen Street, Coldwater, daughter and son-in-law Lori and Brian Moore, Quartz Hill, Calif. and sister Peggy Ritschard of South Bend, Ind.; eight grandchildren: Rachel, Michael, Benjamin, Jason, Riley, Wendy, Brandon and Sean and numerous nieces and nephews.  She leaves us with fond memories of her special holiday dinners, jams, legendary pies and her special red velvet cake. Along with the memories with Roxie, include trips to the Florida Everglades, mushroom hunting in Mesick and many trips to the warm beaches of Southern California. Roxie will always be cherished in the hearts of her family. She may be gone, but she certainly isn’t forgotten — and never will be. Services are private at the family’s request. A heartfelt thank you to the staff of Antelope Valley Hospital, Antelope Valley Care Center and Antelope Valley Hospice.

Russell LaVern Shutts Jr., 61 of Quincy and formerly of Fremont, ind. died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009 at the Community Health Center of Branch County in Coldwater. He was born Aug. 10, 1948 in Angola, Ind. to Russell LaVern and Mildred (Arnold) Shutts, Sr. He married Bonnie (Hall) on July 3, 1971. She survives in Quincy. He retired from Walker Manufacturing of Litchfield in 2005.  He was a 1966 graduate of Fremont High School. He enjoyed playing poker and going to Las Vegas to the casinos, he enjoyed fishing, he was a big Green Bay Packer Fan, he enjoyed playing video games, enjoyed his family, his loving wife, children and grandchildren.  Survivors include his wife Bonnie Shutts of Quincy, daughters: Sandy Shutts of Quincy, Kandy Smith of Coldwater and Joy  DeLong of Coldwater, son Roy and Melissa Shutts of Bronson, brother Richard and Margaret Shutts of Fremont, Ind., sister Mary Ann Ernsberger of Seymour, Tenn. and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Tammy Shutts. Visitation will take place from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Ind.  A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2009 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Ind. Sharron E. Schultz Sharron E. Schultz (nee Rieck), age 57, of Port Charlotte, Florida, formerly of Roseville and St Clair Shores, passed away on December 13, 2009, at her home from cancer. She was born in Highland Park and graduated from Lakeview High in St. Clair Shores in 1971. She obtained a bachelor's degree from Wayne State University and worked in various jobs before becoming a dedicated teacher for Lake Shore from 1987-97. In 1997 Sharron and family moved to Florida and was employed as a Business Manager for Bay Harbor Ford from 1997 until her illness in late 2008. Sharron is survived by her husband, David; son Jason; brother, Bryan Rieck; mother, Connie Rieck; and grandson, JJ. She was preceded in death by her father, Morris Rieck; and brother, Butch Rieck, who died in the U.S. Navy. Sister Felicia Haidysz, formerly known as Felicia Veronica Haidysz, died on Dec. 13, 2009, at the Dominican Life Center. She was 93 years of age and in the 75th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation. Sister Felicia was born in Biddeford, Maine, to Andrew and Anna (Michniewicz) Haidysz. She graduated from Gagetown High School in Gagetown, Mich., and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Latin and a Master of Education Degree in Administration from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian. Sister spent 16 years ministering in education in Adrian, Ypsilanti, Detroit, Ruth and Utica, Mich.; Joliet and Elmwood Park, Ill. She did the Parish Census in Cincinnati, Ohio, for two years. Sister was Administrator and Nurse for 13 years at St. Rose de Lima Hospital in Henderson, Nev. She was also a Nurse at St. Theresa Home in Cincinnati for three years. From 1969 to 1977 Sister ministered at Dominican Santa Cruz Hospital in Santa Cruz, Calif., in various positions: Administrative Assistant, Nurse, Pastoral Care Minister and Secretary to the Medical Staff. She was Secretary for the Central Services and Office of Information in Adrian from 1977 to 1998. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 1998. Sister Felicia is survived by loving nieces and nephews. Visitation is from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, in the Rose Room at the Dominican Life Center, followed by Vigil Prayer at 7 p.m. in St. Catherine Chapel. The Funeral Liturgy will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2009. Burial will be in the Congregation cemetery. She had worked in the Cambria area in 1968. When she moved to Albion, she worked as a laundress at Home Laundry. For 28 years Violet was married to Frank Parney who preceded her in death in 1960. In 1972, she married Robert “Bert” Miller who survives. She was a member of Leisure Hour Club in Albion. Violet enjoyed hunting, cooking and  baking, sewing and gardening. Survivors include: husband, Robert “Bert” Miller; daughter, Donelta Day and son, Junior and Martha Parney, all of Albion; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Parney; one brother, Ernest Britton; one half-brother, Garford Britton and half-sister, Audrey Seward.
