Allen M. Schlagheck, age 84, of Sturgis, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at Sturgis Hospital. The family will receive friends and relatives from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Hackman Family Funeral Home Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis. He was an electrical engineer for Chrysler Corporation for 40 years and retired in 1996. Served in the U.S. Navy, was an artist, investor, enjoyed writing, reading, swimming and playing cards. Survived by his former wife, Beverly Strother; children, Cynthia (Gregory) Parsell of Peck, Glen (Carol) of Algonac, Bryan of Oroville, Calif., and Polly (Todd) Alles of Sandy, Utah.; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Served in the U.S. Army, member of St. Mary Queen of Creation Church, enjoyed golf, bowling, horseshoes and going on cruises. Survived by his wife, Helen, whom he married February 14, 1942 in Detroit. Children, Susan (Clyde) Sumpter of Sterling Heights, James (Madalyne) of Harrison Township, Joann (Mark) Neily of Green Bay, Wis. and Robert of Troy. Six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Siblings, Steve Kush, Helen Long, Eleanor Wnuk and Janet Bodgan. Predeceased by his daughter, Eileen and siblings, Jean, Walter, Stanley, Joseph and John. Dr. Bobbi J. Ramp M.D. Passed away on April 5, 2010, age 49. Dr. Ramp received her medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine where she also completed her residency. She was an instructor in surgery and assistant clinical professor at Michigan State. She was a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. An expert gardner, Dr. Ramp received her Master Gardener's Degree. She was an avid U of M football fan as well as a Detroit Pistons fan. She also loved spending time on her wave runner and fishing boat. Beloved daughter of Robert D. and Joanne C. Ramp. Preceded in death by her mother Barbara L. Ramp. Dear sister of Brad (Gina) Ramp. Bobby Lee McNulty, age 76, of Constantine, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at the Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. He was born Feb. 14, 1934, in Minden, W.Va., a son of the late Herbert and Mildred (Wykle) McNulty. Bobby has been a resident of Sturgis and the surrounding area most of his life. On Jan. 25, 1957, he married Gladys Snyder. This marriage ended in divorce. On Sept. 25, 1981, , he married Carol McAlister in White Pigeon. Bobby was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He had been employed by Americraft Carton in Sturgis for nearly 40 years and retired in 1994. He was a former member of the Sturgis Eagles, Sturgis Elks, Neuman-Wenzel American Legion, and a lifetime member of the Capt. John J. Kelley V.F.W. Post all of Sturgis. He enjoyed bowling, deer hunting, watching NASCAR, bird watching, collecting model cars and trucks, and was a true lover of animals. Surviving are his wife, Carol; three children, Bryan McNulty Sr., Darlene (Brian) Harker, and Marlene (Dale) Claar all of Sturgis; a stepson, Charles Longacre of Constantine; six grandchildren, Bryan (Chelsey) McNulty Jr. of Gaylord, Andrew (Janelle) McNulty of Coldwater, Lisa Harker, Kristen Harker, Jennifer Harmon, and Steven (Silke) Harmon, all of Sturgis; two great-grandchildren: Declan and Lucan McNulty of Gaylord; two sisters, Jean Trombino of Clifton, N.J., and Barbara (Glenn) Bayleat of White Pigeon; an aunt, Dorothy Hearn of Collins, Miss.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James McNulty; and a brother-in-law, Francis Trombino. The family will receive friends and relatives from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Hackman Family Funeral Home Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Bobby McNulty will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Graveside services and interment will follow in White Pigeon Township Cemetery, with full military honors conferred by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and the Capt. John J. Kelley V.F.W. Post. Carol R. Kratzer, 92, of Allen, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2010, at Hillsdale Community Health Center.  She was born Sept. 20, 1917, in Allen to Barnard B. and Charlotte E. (Kemp) Howard and graduated from Allen School. She worked on the farm along side husband, Franklin F., whom she married on Sept. 20, 1939. Carol was a member of the Hillsdale County Extension for 15 years and a member of the Allen United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, history, gardening, canning, baking and especially her family. All of the farm help loved her cooking! She is survived by daughters Helen (Lee) Burlew of Hillsdale and Evlyn (Leon) Parrish of Quincy, son Duane (Brenda) Kratzer of Allen, eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren She was preceded in death by her husband in 2007, sister Hilda, brother Kenneth and sister-in-law Marie. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 13 at 11 a.m. at the George White Funeral Home, Quincy, Pastor Craig Pahl officiating. Interment will follow in Allen Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled Monday from 5-8 p.m.  Memorials are suggested to the Allen United Methodist Church.

He was born Dec. 28, 1930, in Monroe County, Mich., the son of William F. and Elsie Ruth (Todd) Jermeay. Mr. Jermeay retired as a tool and die maker with Metal Spinners in Angola, Ind. and was a lifelong farmer. He married Laura J. “June” Bricker on March 1, 1957, in Hudson, and she survives. He is also survived by his children, Christine Boardman, of Pittsford, Mary Sue Boren and Dan Jermeay in West Virginia, Katie M. Carper, of Montgomery and Wynee L. Jermeay of Edon; a stepdaughter, Katherine McGurgan; several grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Frankie (Gordon) Robey and Max (Carol) Jermeay, both of West Unity, Ohio, Roger (Aileen) Jermeay and Annie Bethol, both of Hillsdale, Bonnie Brehm, of Adrian, William T. Jermeay, in Kentucky, and Vivian Yckisa, of Archbold, Ohio. He was preceded in death by two sons, Charles F. and William H.; a daughter, Elsie Ruth; one brother and three sisters. Clay Almond Thomas Clay Almond Thomas, age 85 of Mount Clemens, passed away on Tuesday morning, April 6, 2010 at Pine Ridge Assisted Living in Clinton Township. He was born on August 1, 1924 in Doon, Iowa, the son of the late Claude and Cemantha (Fuller) Thomas. Clay had served in the United States Army, and after the end of World War II, he was assigned to Selfridge Field where he met his wife. On September 10, 1949, he was united in marriage with Dorothy Ida Liebziet in Trinity Lutheran Church in Mount Clemens, they celebrated their 60th anniversary last fall shortly before Dorothy was called to her heavenly home. They lived in Colorado for a year where he was active in hiking, photography, flying and equestrian. The couple had resided in Mount Clemens since 1950. He was active in Little League Baseball and the Boy Scouts for many years. In his later years he enjoyed bird watching and carving wooden birds and ducks. He was also a Life Master Bridge player. Clay spent his entire career as a teacher, counselor and administrator in the East Detroit Public Schools. Among his other accomplishments he was the first President of the Macomb County Counselors Association. He was also appointed by Michigan Gov. Soapy Williams to the committee to put together guidelines for community colleges. Mr. Thomas is survived by four children, Kent (Stephanie) Thomas of Lynchburg, Virginia, Brad (Terri) Thomas of Clinton Township, Clay (Vicki) Thomas Jr. of Sacramento, California and Lori Lieb (Steve) Curtis of Shelby Township; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and his sister, Margaret (Henry) Motter of Mason City, Iowa. Clay was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy on October 1, 2009, his son, Scot Thomas, and his sister, Grayce Hagen. Visitation will be on Friday, April 9, 2010 from 2-9:00 p.m. at Will and Schwarzkoff Funeral Home, 233 Northbound Gratiot, Mount Clemens Additional visitation 10 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010 until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 38900 Harper Avenue (south of Crocker Boulevard) Clinton Township with the Reverend Thees Hoft officiating. Dan Bassar Lansing Age 63, of died at his home on Monday, April 5, 2010 after a short battle with lung cancer. Dan was born December 30, 1946 in Jackson, Michigan. He was employed by AT&T of Santa Cruz, California for 28 years. He had recently retired to his home state of Michigan prior to his death. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Doris, his father, John, and a brother, Keith (Joanne) all of Lansing, as well as his brother, John (Elizabeth) of Lakewood, California, and his brother, Philip (Mary) of Las Vegas, Nevada. He is also survived by three nephews, Andrew, Michael and Mathew, all of Grand Ledge, Michigan. Dan has donated his body to Michigan State University. No services will be held. Donald W. Stewart of Tecumseh went to be with the Lord, Feb. 4, 2010, after a long illness with cancer, at 78 years young. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Pat, in 1995. Born on May 20, 1931, Don retired from Tecumseh Products after 43 years of service. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army. Don will be sadly missed by his family and good friends. A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at the Brooklyn Eagles, 9500 Wamplers Lake Road. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the hospice of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.

Doris A. (May)  Coggiano March 12, 1916 — April 4, 2010 Doris A. (May) Coggiano, of Clearwater, Fla., passed away Sunday, April 4, 2010, at the age of 94, at the Clearwater Comprehensive Health Care Facility. She was born March 12, 1916, in Frontier, the daughter of John and Hope (Thompson) May.  Dorris loved Jesus Christ with all her heart, soul, mind and body. Her family was very precious to her and that family includes her loving son and daughter-in-law, Robert (Linda) Horr of Dunedin, Florida; one brother, Don (Nan) May of Hillsdale; nephews, Philip May of Jonesville, Doug (Lynne) May of Hillsdale and Mike “Gregg” (Sharon) May of Arcadia, Calif. and other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Gene Arnold; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Arnold and one grandson, Greg Arnold.  Dorris (May) Coggiano read her Bible every day and even paid someone to come and read the Bible to her when she could not read it because of her eyesight. She was a great giver of her tithe and enjoyed giving other gifts to people that she came across in her lifetime. She loved people and had many friends and she enjoyed visiting with them many times over breakfast or dinner. She also loved going to church when she was able to go and enjoyed flowers and working outdoors.  A private graveside service to honor the life of Dorris A. (May) Coggiano has taken place at the Lakeview Cemetery in Hillsdale. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to a charity of their choice. Glenna E. Bisel, age 101, of Sturgis, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at Thurston Woods Village. She was born Dec. 11, 1908, in Portland, Ind., a daughter of the late Oren and Anna (Stout) Grafmiller. Glenna graduated from Battle Creek High School with the class of 1928. On April 20, 1930, she married Kenneth M. Bisel in Battle Creek.  He preceded her in death June 25, 1986. Glenna had resided in Coldwater until 1949 before moving to Sturgis. She enjoyed working alongside her husband, Kenneth, in the retail store businesses from 1928-1979 and enjoyed the times they spent transporting the Amish to various vacation spots. Surviving are two sons,  Keith (Roberta) Bisel of Congress, Ariz., and Noel (Elaine) Bisel of Holland; and six grandchildren. According to her wishes there, will be no service or visitation, as cremation has taken place. Arrangements are being handled by the Hackman Family Funeral Home Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Lawrence was born in Detroit on March 16, 1928, a son of the late William and Christine (Buechel) Thompson. Larry owned Thompson Company CPA of Harper Woods, which served credit unions in Michigan and Ohio for over 30 years. He conducted many educational seminars for credit unions until his retirement in 2000. Larry enjoyed golfing, traveling, his boxer dogs and wintering in Florida. He was a sincere and honest family man who will be deeply missed by many. Larry is survived by his wife, Marianne; his loving children, Susan (Bernard) Young, Patricia (Richard) Okerhjelm, Deborah (Richard) Doyle, Donna (Robert) Kirchhoff, Barbara (Kenneth) Trevino, Ann (Philip) Perry, Ruth (Brian) Merritt, Lawrence (Sandra) and Jackie (Steven) Cansler. He was the proud grandfather of 20 and great-grandfather of one. Larry was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Marilyn on December 26, 2001, and by three brothers and two sisters. He served 2 years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired in 1984 as an administrator in the Treasury Department at the State of Michigan. He was a past-governor of the Moose Lodge #288 of Lansing, and was currently a member of Moose Lodge #2291 of DeWitt. He was also a member of the Mason-Holt Eagles Lodge, Bath American Legion, and the Edwin J. Leyanna V.F.W. Post #671 of DeWitt. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Gulick; mother and stepfather, Laura & Whitey Ardis; and his brother, Ronald Gulick. Louis was born March 9, 1922, in Florence Township, a son of Michael T. and Jennie (Weaver) Everett. He farmed in his youth and worked construction most of his adult life. Louis served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II. On Nov. 22, 1947, he married Patricia Dimmick in Three Rivers. Louis and his wife enjoyed camping and traveled all around Michigan. He also enjoyed his ponies and antique tractor shows. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Pat Everett of Constantine; a daughter, Lynn (Gordon) Clevenger  of Centreville; two sons, James (Gayle) Everett of Three Rivers and Richard Everett of Constantine; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six step-great- grandchildren; a sister, Leona Glase of Elkhart, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Everett of Lawton; and many nieces and nephews. Marian Louise Sattler, 83, of Blissfield passed away on Monday, April 5, 2010, at her home. She was born on May 18, 1926, in Tecumseh, Mich., the daughter of Royal and Clemantine (McCallister) Haas. On Feb. 13, 1947, Marian was united in marriage to Donald Sattler. He survives. Marian devoted her life to her home and family. She was a member of the United Brethren Church in Blissfield and was a proud sponsor of the Lakota Indian children from St. Joseph’s Indian School in Chamberlain, S.D. In her spare time, Marian enjoyed spending time with her family at their cabin in Harrison, Mich., where she actively fished and hunted. Marian was a collector of various stones and loved to  sit and watch the birds  whenever she could. Surviving is her husband, Donald Sattler of Blissfield; three children, Greg (Tanna) Sattler of Tecumseh, Laura (Dan) Sauter of Palmyra and Lezlie Whiteford of Blissfield; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Dean Haas; sisters, Alta Mae Crist and Helen Bangeter; her daughter, Brenda DeLisle; and her son, Bradley Sattler. Following Marian’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Marian will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the Tagsold Funeral Home in Blissfield. Burial of her ashes will follow in Pleasantview Cemetery in Blissfield. In lieu of flowers, please consider making contributions to the Hospice of Lenawee. Marilyn’s hobbies included music, especially playing the piano, as well as traveling and appreciation for nature. Her greatest passion was their homestead farm. Survivors include her husband, Mike Kyser, whom she married Aug. 3, 1963; one daughter, Kelli (Jared) Seager, Reading; one son, Kevin (Jody) Kyser, Spring Lake; eight grandchildren, Kaci, Jarett, Kaitlin, and Kirstin Seager and Courtney, Cameron, Collin and Caden Kyser. She was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter, Chloe Kyser. She was born on June 22, 1922 in Dansville, MI, the daughter of Fay M. and Gladys L. (Smith) Townsend. She is survived by her husband, Wynn C. Boyce, whom she married on December 25, 1942. Mary Louise enjoyed playing games and cards, going to church dinners, attending Senior activities, collecting owls, and playing the harmonica. She worked for Howlett Hardware, Fran's Dress Shop, the Howlett family and the D & C Offices. She was a member of the Fun and Study Club, Farm Bureau, Stockbridge United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She went back to school and received her High School diploma from Stockbridge High School in 1979. She was a loving wife for 67 years, a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mary Louise is survived by her children, Rosalyn (Keith) Otto of Pleasant Lake and Marilyn (Thomas) Zick of Lewiston, MI. Maybelle E. Paul, born to J. Leslie and Inice M. (Ping) Taylor in Blackwell, Okla. on April 29, 1910 passed away peacefully March 23, 2010 in Tucson, Ariz.  At a very early age, her parents relocated to Branch County, where she graduated from Quincy High School in 1928. In 1928, she married Leo Paul, who preceded her in death in 1982. In 1972, after 22 years of employment with the Coldwater Regional Center, she retired and was a member of SERA. She continued living at the farm where she lived for 50 plus years, working with her husband in their slaughter house business. She was an early member of the Branch County Extension Ladies, a 4-H leader for 20 years and taught many the joys of working with ceramics. Other organizations she enjoyed through her life were Friends of the Library and Farm Bureau and the Branch County 4-H Fair for more than 50 years. During retirement, she raised peacocks and flowers and truly enjoyed her family.  Traveling became a passion for her and she visited every state in the union, plus Mexico, Canada, Panama and the Caribbean. As busy as she kept, she stayed close to God and prided herself in reading the entire Bible each year.  She is survived by her children Jane Ann (Norman Dean) Brown of Bronson, Dennis (Betty) Paul of Tucson, Ariz., Nancy Armstrong of Tucson, Ariz. and Mitchel (Patricia) Paul of Kalamazoo, along with nine grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and three great  great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers James Taylor and Leslie Taylor, sister Vyrna Cox and two grandchildren. Memorials in her memory may be directed to the Branch County 4-H Fair. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen, and daughters: Sheila Campbell of Holt and Colette (Gene) Falter of Grand Island, New York; grandchildren: Denny (Connie) Campbell and Tina (Neil) Tupper; 5 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; a sister: Jane Carpenter; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. The funeral service will be held 12:00 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel with interment to follow in Maple Ridge Cemetery, Holt. On June 12, 1954, he married Sally Bale in Tipton, Mich. She survives. Pete served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retiree of the Ford Motor Company, Rawsonville Plant. Pete was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tecumseh. Besides his wife, Sally, Pete is survived by three children, June (Jeffrey) Elwell of Onsted, Jane (Jeffrey) Shirk of Dansville, Mich., and Michael (Kelli) Glenn of Ypsilanti; sisters, Sophie Bailey of Tecumseh and Frances Holmes of Adrian; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sisters, Frank, Joseph, Verna, and two in infancy. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2010, at the J. Wannetta was born April 4, 1926, in Salem Twp., Steuben Co., Ind., to Alva and Bertha (Harvey) Stumpf. She married Francis W. Yockey on April 4, 1945, in Angola, Ind. He preceded her in death Jan. 9, 2009. Mrs. Yockey worked for Midwest Tool & Cutlery Co. in Sturgis for 30 years, retiring in 1982. She graduated from Flint High School in Indiana, coming to the Branch County area in 1961 and attended the Bronson First Baptist Church for many years. Wannetta enjoyed playing the piano and singing. She was a devoted, loving and faithful wife who always took great care of her family and husband, especially in his final days of life. Wannetta is survived by her sister, Ruth Blanchard of LaGrange, Ind.; her sister-in-law, Lucille Kirkpatrick of Indiana; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Marjorie Arnold and Catherine Whitten. Services will be held Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Bronson First Baptist Church with Pastor John Fields officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Flint Cemetery in Flint, Ind. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Bronson. Arrangements are being cared for by Dutcher-Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson. Wilma Kimmel Zeleznik Wilma Kimmel Zeleznik, age 86, a City of Grosse Pointe resident, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at ShorePointe Nursing Center in St. Clair Shores. She was born in Detroit on December 27, 1923, to Carl H. and Florence A. Stahlbuck Kimmel. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Wayne State University in 1945 and a Bachelor of Arts in library science from the University of Michigan the following year. Mrs. Zeleznik was a head librarian for the Detroit Public Library. Mrs. Zeleznik had many hobbies and interests including reading, investing, traveling, photography, Great Lakes shipping, pets, wildlife and was an avid diarist. She collected coins, stamps, photographs and porcelains. She was a member of the Grosse Pointe Unitarian Church, Grosse Pointe Unitarian Church Alliance and the Marine Historical Society of Detroit. Mrs. Zeleznik is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Virginia O. and Carl R. McCoy of Grosse Pointe Woods and her sister, Eleanor Kimmel Cunningham of Pasadena, Calif. She was predeceased on February 6, 1988 by her husband, Robert A., whom she married August 28, 1948. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 19, at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial, 32 Lakeshore Drive, Grosse Pointe Farms. Memorial donations may be made to the Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society, 296 Chalfonte, Grosse Pointe Farms, MI 48236 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
