A. John Moss

A. John Moss Beulah A. John Moss, 62, of Beulah and East Lansing, died April 22, 2010 at home. John was born March 8, 1848 in the Osteopathic Hospital in Traverse City. He grew up in Beulah and graduated from Benzie Central High School in 1964. He attended Central Michigan University where he majored in music and played in the marching band. Out of college he taught music in Mio and later in the Beaverton Area Schools. Following his teaching experiences he attended Michigan State University where he worked on his masters while teaching music theory. He later worked for Audiograph Productions in East Lansing writing and arranging music. In later years he worked for Hal Leonard Productions in Milwaukee where he wrote and arranged music for schools and colleges. The highlight of John's career was the opportunity to work with John Williams. He rearranged many of John William's movie scores for the United States Marine Band and worked with him in Washington preparing for and directing the Marine Band. John enjoyed his family, his many friends, cooking in the grill, holidays, especially Christmas and long walks around the MSU campus as well as his home town. He is survived by his sister, Diana Moss of Beulah; nephews, Fred Schubert (Jama), Adam and Eli Schubert; and niece, Leah Schubert; as well as many good friends from school and in the music industry. Cremation has taken place with all arrangements made by Jowett Family Funeral Homes. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the music department at Benzie Central Schools or to a school of your choice

Bessie May Deck, age 81, of North Adams died Saturday, April 24, 2010, in Lewisburg, Tenn. She was born April 25, 1928, in Adrian to Emery and Ruth (Miller) Lee. On Sept. 15, 1944, she married Thomas Deck. He preceded her in death. Bessie enjoyed playing bingo and cards and crocheting. She is survived by a son, Gary Deck of Lewisburg, Tenn.; three daughters, Rose Pickering of Jonesville, Diana Church of Lewisburg, Tenn., and Mary Keirns of Lewisburg, Tenn.; 23 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Thomas, she was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas Deck Jr. and Jerry W. Deck; four half brothers and a half sister. Funeral services for Bessie will be held Thursday, April 29, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian, with the Rev. Lloyd Jewett officiating. Burial will be in Lenawee Hills Memorial Park, Adrian. Buster Brown, 86, Sturgis, passed away Saturday evening, April 24, 2010, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis. He was born May 1, 1923, in Pittsburg, Kan., a son of the late Thomas J. and Frances Marie (Snow) Brown. Mr. Brown was a longtime Sturgis resident. His early life was spent in Kansas. He was a printer by trade and retired from LTI Printing in Sturgis. Prior to joining LTI, he had been employed by the Sturgis Registry Company for many years. He was a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovah Witness and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Brown also had a passion for reading. He is survived by two daughters, Penelope (Robert) Krebs of White Pigeon and Laura (William) Boothe of West Palm Beach Fla.; a son, Bradley Brown of Buchanan; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Timothy Brown; a sister; a brother; and several half-brothers and sisters. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Buster Brown will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. Mr. James Oman of the Kingdom Hall Jehovah Witness will officiate. A graveside committal of the ashes will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. Carol is survived by her 8 children, Margaret (Charlie) Clark, Mark White, Michelle (James) Wilson, Richard (Angela) White, Matthew White, and triplets, Mary (Peter) Vanzwoll, Marie (Neal) Wasson, and Marian White. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 2 due in the fall. Carol is also survived by sister, Ellie Eedy, and brother, Dudley Cushion, and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Mary Cushion, 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Carol was a loving mother, homemaker, and loved to play Bingo and cards. For the past 6 years she has resided in Westfield, Indiana. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 28, 2010, 2:00 p.m. at the Holihan-Atkin Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. Charles Irons

Charles Irons East Lansing Charles Irons, age 90 of East Lansing, passed away on Monday, April 26, 2010 at Ingham Regional Medical Center. Charles was born on November 9, 1919 in Glasgow, Scotland, the son of Charles and Isabella (Robb) Irons. He graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit. He married Margaret White in Detroit on January 5, 1944 and she predeceased him in 1999. He served in the U.S. Air Corps during WWII, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus of St. Isidore Catholic Church and a volunteer at Ingham Regionsal Medical Center. He is survived by three children; Jane (Larry) Bouck of Bath, David (Nancy) Irons of Lansing and Patricia Goodman of Haslett; seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday April 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Laingsburg with Rev. Fr. Duaine H. Pamment officiating. Donald was born Nov. 20, 1936, in Morehead, Ky., to Benjamin Cecil and Clara Belle (Shields) Caudill. He married Gladys M. Smith in 1962. The family left Kentucky for Michigan, where Donald worked as a logger and settled in Bronson in 1969. He soon opened a salvage yard, Caudill Salvage, which he owned and operated until his death. Donald was a member of the Oasis of Love Family Church in Coldwater. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Gladys; sons Lester (Kerry) Butler of Sturgis, Donald (Becky) Caudill Jr., Richard (Tina) Caudill of Angola, Ind., and Tony (Lisa) Caudill of Coldwater; daughters Theresa (Blake) Bailey and Sharon (Scott) Bailey, both of Sturgis; a brother, Curt (Evelina) Caudill and sister, Myrtle Butler, both of Morehead; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Donald was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Tommy Lee, in 1959; nine brothers; and a sister. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p. m. Wednesday at Dutcher-Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson. She was born on Oct. 10, 1923, in Hudson, the daughter of Clarence and Mildred (Day) Kelley.  Donna graduated from Hudson High School in 1941. She married Jay Elwood Miller on Aug. 24, 1945, in Hudson. He preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1968. She worked at the Kroger Egg Company as a grader in Hudson and then later as an egg inspector for the USDA.  Donna was an avid sports fan, especially of the Detroit Tigers. She enjoyed watching many sports on TV, especially hockey, bowling and baseball. She also loved playing cards, computer card games and activities at the senior centers in Adrian, Tecumseh and Hudson. Donna is survived by four children, Gary Miller of Hudson, Gordon Miller of Adrian, Beverley (Doug) Herrmann of Newaygo and Barb (Toney) Isom of Adrian; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, granddaughter and brother, Donald Kelley.  Funeral services for Donna will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Hudson. Edward W. Truckenmiller, 89, of Centreville,  passed away Friday, April 23, 2010, at his home. He was born Dec. 23, 1920, in Centreville,  a son of Roy C. and Mary (Meyer) Truckenmiller. Ed graduated from Centreville High School in 1938 and served in the U.S. Marines from 1942 until 1945, during which time he obtained the rank of corporal. Ed saw action at Cape Gloucester, New Britain and at Peleliu, Palau Islands as an antitank gunman and scout observer. After returning from the war, he married Virginia R. Young on Aug. 31, 1946, in Washington, Va. She preceded him in death on Aug. 19, 1978. On Sept. 5, 1980, Ed married Donna J. (Lucas) Pashby. She preceded him in death on Nov. 1, 2005. Ed owned and operated Truckenmiller Hardware in Centreville, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Three Rivers Elks Club, American Legion, D.A.V., and a 1945 Charter Member of the Centreville Lions Club. Ed had also served on the Centreville school board. Surviving are a son, James (Karen) Truckenmiller of Centreville; Stepson Marc (Chris) Pashby of Three Rivers; grandchildren Daniel (Erica) Truckenmiller, Jennifer (Jon) Stasiuk, Christine Pashby, Lisa Pashby, Jessica (Dan) Miles and Zachery (Miranda) Bolla; great-grandchildren Emma, Luke, Jack, Matthew, Benjamin, Tayah, Alise, Kate, and McKenna; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wives Virginia Truckenmiller and Donna J. Truckenmiller; a sister, Jean Truckenmiller; and a brother, William Truckenmiller. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends will be received from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the Eley Funeral Home in Centreville, where memorial services will follow at  2 p.m.  Pastor David Peterson of the Centreville Baptist Church will officiate. Emery L.Cramer, age 81, of Sturgis, beloved husband, father, Paw-Paw, grandpa and great-grandpa, passed away Thursday morning, April 22, 2010, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born June 27, 1928, in Columbia City, Ind., a son of the late Emery and Esther (Dexter) Cramer. Mr. Cramer originally came to Sturgis in 1960.They resided there until 2000, when he and his wife moved to Virginia, where they resided for three years. They then moved  to Holland, then returned to Sturgis in 2009. His early life was spent in the Fort Wayne, Ind., area. On Sept. 24, 1949, he married Beverly Bridge in Fort Wayne, Ind. Mr. Cramer was an accountant by trade and retired from Parma Tube in Sturgis, where he had held the position of controller for 10 years. Prior to joining Parma Tube he had been employed by Grav-i-Flo in Sturgis and Central States Grain in Fort Wayne. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis and a former member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and the Loyal Order of Moose #574. He was proud to have served his country first with the Merchant Marines and later he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving from 1946-1950 and was stationed in China. He earned the rank of sergeant. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, reading and was a talented woodworker. He has left behind a loving family to cherish his memory through their tears. They will remember him with many smiles, laughs, stories and much love. This is the way he would want it until they are all reunited with him in heaven. He and Beverly’s loving marriage of 60 years serves as a shining example of true dedication as husband and wife. He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly; a daughter, Theresa Potts of Sturgis; a son, Michael Cramer; four grandchildren, Amy (Aaron) Morris of Sturgis, Julie Swihart, of Sturgis, Scott (Alisha) Roberts of Sturgis and Tony (Tara) Cramer of Holland; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, David (Rita) Bridge of Indianapolis and William Bridge of Williamsburg, Va.; and many nieces and nephews. His parents, two sisters and a brother preceded him in death. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Emery L. James E. Yoder, 82, of Sturgis, Mich., and Weslaco, Texas, passed away Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, surrounded by his family at the Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. He was born Aug. 11, 1927, in Nottawa, Mich., a son to the late Ernest and Lovina (Eicher) Yoder. Jim resided in the Sturgis area most of his life. In 1950 he married Jackie Bowen. She preceded him in death on March 23, 1999. On Sept. 25, 2005, he married Mary Reed. He was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952 during the Korean War stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C. Following his honorable discharge from the Army he and Jackie returned to Sturgis and resided there and raised their family. Following their retirement he and Jackie began spending their winters in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. Jim and Mary were currently living in Sturgis and also Winter Texans in Weslaco. In the 1950s and ’60s he was a member of many championship fast pitch softball teams. He was a very talented southpaw first baseman. Jim continued his love of sports encouraging and cheering loudly at his sons athletic events. For many years he umpired Little League Majors baseball games in Sturgis. He loved to run the two lane roads while traveling and took Mary down some interesting roads. Jim was always willing to give of his time to help others and had volunteered at Thurston Woods Village and was a driver for the American Cancer Society in the Valley. He attended the Locust Grove Mennonite Church in Burr Oak. His care and compassion for all his family and friends will be greatly missed but he loved the Lord and has gone home in victory. He would want us to celebrate his life. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Mary; one daughter, Linda (Doug) Large of Sturgis; five sons, Doug (Sue) Yoder of Austin, Texas, Bob (Marilee) Yoder of Sturgis, Steve (his friend Sheryl Putnam) Yoder of Sturgis, Stan (Vicki) Yoder of White Pigeon, Tim (his fiancée Vicky Singleton) Yoder of Sturgis; one step-son, Jeff Moline of Garita, N.M.; two step-daughters, Michelle (Scott) Carr of Sturgis and Alecia Frutig of LaGrange, Ind.; 21 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ellen Schragg of Kalamazoo and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death parents; wife; two sisters,  Lena Reed and Barb Weber; and one brother, Ernest Yoder. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Janet was predeceased by her daughter, Rhonda Jakobot in 1998 and four siblings. Katherine was born August 12, 1920 in Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of Maksyni and Catherine Lewandowsky. She graduated from Central High School in 1938, and lived in Lansing all her life. Katherine married her husband Ernest in 1944, and they were blessed with 65 years of marriage. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lansing. Katherine cherished her family. She was a wonderful mother, and caring for her children was always her greatest joy. Katherine was a very gifted homemaker, cook, and seamstress. She also loved music and dancing, and in her younger years, swimming and ice skating. Katherine will be fondly remembered for her charming personality and sense of humor, and will be dearly missed. Katherine is survived by her husband, Ernest; son, Christian (Mary) of Manistee; daughter, Barbara of Lansing; grandson, Paul of East Lansing; and sister, Mary Higgins of Lansing. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia; parents; and brothers, Andrew Lewandowsky and Alex Lewandowsky. There will be a visitation held 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. A private funeral service will be held Thursday. Her marriage of 57 years to Harold Bauer in Fowler on May 1, 1940, ended with his death October 20, 1997. Leona is survived by four daughters, Diane Daher of Lansing, Dolores Phinney of St. Johns, Dorene Bauer of Laingsburg, and Debra (Cary) Rappuhn of Potterville; three sons, Dennis (Norma) Bauer and Dale (Sandi) Bauer of St. Johns, and Dane (Jeri) Bauer of Bloomingdale, Illinois; sixteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Marie Weber. William H. ‘Bill’ Fields Jan. 2, 1928 — April 21, 2010 William H. “Bill” Fields, 83, of Reading, passed away Wednesday at home.  He was born January 2, 1928, in Ward, Ark. to William and Elva (Minton) Fields.  Bill served in the Merchant Marines and was a truck driver for Roadway Trucking Company of Detroit.  He belonged to the American Legion and Masonic Lodge in Detroit.  His hobbies included reading Louis L’Amour books, working on the farm, watching Detroit Tigers baseball on TV and flying his Piper Cub airplane. Survivors include his wife, Audrey (Waters) Fields, whom he married Feb. 9, 1985; four daughters, Charlotte (Curtis) Ferguson, Desark, Ark.; Dena (Time) Wilson, Tennessee; Dawn Dale, Elyria, Ohio; Sally (Gary) Kinney, Hillsdale; two sons, Sheridan (Theresa) Draggoo, Camden, and Dan (Rita) Draggoo, Montpelier, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and P.J, a much loved dog. His parents and one sister preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the George White Funeral Home, Reading, with Pastor Don Harkey officiating.  Interment will follow in Frontier Cemetery.  Visitation is scheduled 11 a.m. Friday until time of service. She was born in Reading, Feb. 28, 1915. There will be a memorial service for Doris Spieth at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Hillsdale, with Pastor Patti Beckman officiating. Betty was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Church Women United, Christian Singles, and had served as a volunteer in the church Soup Kitchen. Burlew, 70, of Reading, passed away Sunday, April 18, 2010, at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo.  She was born Feb. 19, 1940, in North Adams, the daughter of Gerald and Ruth (Snyder) Allen.  Dorothy cleaned many homes in the area and enjoyed watching TV and spending time with her grandchildren.  On March 9, 1972, she married Richard “Stub” Burlew and he preceded her in death in 1996.  Survivors include one daughter, Peggy (Donald) Wooden, of Florida; one sister, Doris (Buddy) Hagaman, of Reading, and two grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers (Virgil, Howard, and Larry Allen), and one daughter (Karen). Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the George White Funeral Home, Reading, with the Rev. Alan Fenstermaker officiating.  Interment will follow in Berg Cemetery, Montgomery. Dorothy was a former member of the Eagles Auxiliary No. 1907 and Order of the Easter Star in Coldwater. She enjoyed fishing and spending time on Moserville Lake. Dorothy is survived by her grandchildren, William McDowell of Moserville; Kristie VanOrder of Horto; and Lynden McDowell of Seattle; six great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 34 ½ years, Pam; his mother-in-law, Joyce Shaw of Hillsdale; two children, Shawn (Christine) DeForest of Lincoln Park and Heather (Kevin) Galioto of Stow, Ohio; six grandchildren, Michael, Roger-Jesse, Alexis, Taylor, Emily and Blake; five siblings, Gary (Kim) DeForest of Concord, Donna (Larry) Reiniche of Pulaski, Ken (Penny) DeForest of Jonesville, Pat (Jody) DeForest of Pulaski and Patty (Bill) Felkey of Pulaski and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, John Shaw; one sister, Connie DeForest and one grandson, Christian Galioto. Mr. DeForest was a decorated veteran who served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and he retired from the Army Reserves as a Master Sergeant after 20 years of service. He worked for 24 years at Foulke Construction and retired in January 2008. He served as President of Lifeline Food Pantry in Camden and was a member of the Reading Church of the Nazarene, the 199th Charlie Company Infantry and the Vietnam Veterans Association. Mr. DeForest was an avid sports fan at all levels who enjoyed any sport including a ball or a puck. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and he was a friend to all. He will be missed by all who knew him. A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Roger Earl DeForest will be held at the Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home in Hillsdale at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 22 with Pastor David Tran officiating. Interment with military honors will take place in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsdale. On June 23, 1959, in Madison he married Patricia DeLongchamp and she survives. Paul has lived in Morenci since 1994. He was formerly employed at American Chain and Cable in Adrian as a toolsetter, retiring from there in 1986. Paul served his country during the Korean War in the Air Force. He was a member of the Morenci American Legion #368, a life member of the Adrian VFW and a life member of the Korean War Veterans. Besides his wife, Pat, Paul is survived by a daughter, Teresa (David) Earles of Tecumseh; a son, Paul (Lorilie) Herman of Columbus, Ohio; two grandchildren, Rachel and Matthew Earles; six sisters, Carol (Ora) Hatcher of Sylvania, Ohio, Joyce (Mike) Dwyer of Morenci, Mary Ellen Davis of Adrian, Delores Rayer of North Branch, Minn., Lillian Warren (Rollin Lauber) of Hudson, and Diana (William) Mundhenk of Fayette, Ohio; three brothers, Richard Herman of Tennessee, Robert (Ingrid) Herman of California and David Davis (Joan Hood) of Tucson, Ariz.; three half-sisters, Vicki Herman, Gayle (Lyle) Clark, and Karen Herman; two half-brothers, Charles Herman and Daniel Herman; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth DeLongchamp and Lois Evans, both of Adrian; and many nieces and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Henry Davis; a sister, Clara Jeanette Herman; two brothers, Oscar and Edward Herman; and two brothers-in-law, Robert and William DeLongchamp. R. Jean Stout Mason R. Jean Stout was born on May 20, 1936, in St. George Utah to a large family, moved to Salt Lake City, and graduated from South High School. Jean received her B.S and M.S. from the University of Utah, moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she received her PhD in tropical ecology from the University of Michigan while working in Costa Rican streams. Jean moved to East Lansing to work as a Research Associate in the Department of Entomology at Michigan State University (MSU) until her retirement. From 1984 to 1994, she worked on federal grants in Minnesota and in Dickenson County, Michigan. After retiring from MSU, Jean got her real estate license and worked with Vision Real Estate for several years. Jean spent the last years of her life with her husband, William Cooper at their home in Mason, Michigan. She was a life long outdoors woman, animal lover, and gardener. Jean enjoyed sharing her love of science, including appreciation for critters of all shapes and sizes, and discussing her liberal political perspective with family and friends. Jean passed at Sparrow Hospice House in Lansing on April 26, 2010, of melanoma and will be missed greatly by her large network of family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Dr. William Cooper; her son, Jason Vandermeer (Erin Black); step-son, Scott Cooper (Amy Cooper); step-daughter, Jill Cooper (Franc Vanderven); sisters, Shirley and Lorraine; brother, Kent; and black lab, Lilly.   Samuel  “Jeff” Lawrence, age 87, of Tecumseh passed away April23, 2010. He was born Feb. 27, 1923,in Paris, Tenn., the son of Colonel Dewey and Nellie (Calloway) Lawrence. He is survived by his spouse, Evelyn; his daughter, Betty (Ron) Lawrence Tincher; his son, Brian (Dee) Lawrence; his granddaughter, Sheri Carey; three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Adrian and Alec; two stepchildren, Cheryl (John) Broedell and Larry (Mary) Given; one sister, Lucille Brown; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Samuel’s final resting place will be in the Williams Family Cemetery in Paintsville, Ky. His family will have a private memorial service at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian. Samuel served his country in the 877th Airborne Battalion in WWII and he will receive Military Honors from the Adrian VFW Post 1584 Annis-Fint. Susan (Sue) Marie Gowen Hendricks, 58, of Woodstock, Ga., died Wednesday, April 21, 2010. Ms. Hendricks was born in Flint and lived in Cobb County for the past 28 years. She was employed at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for the past 20 years, attending college during this time while she earned her degree in nursing.  She had been a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church for the past 28 years. Sue loved to read, visit and spoil her grandchildren and attend church and plays.  She was a loving daughter, mother and grandmother.  She was selfless and always ready to help a friend in need.  She enjoyed writing and making cards for friends and family.  Sue will be dearly missed. Psalms 37:5: Depend on the Lord, trust him, and he will take care of you. Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Mosley, and husband, Gordon, of Acworth, Ga.; a son, Tim Hendricks, and wife, Amanda of Richmond Hill, Ga.; her mother, Geraldine Zarza of Marietta, Ga.; a brother, Larry Gowen; grandchildren Cole and Jack Hendricks; nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Sadie. She was preceded in death by her father, Urban Gowen, and stepfather, Ray Zarza. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Marietta.  Services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the church,  with The Rev. Mac Riley officiating. William L. Shollenberger, age 82, passed away on Friday, April 23, 2010. He was born Feb. 1, 1928, in Detroit, Mich., to Edna R. (Leonard) and William F. Shollenberger. He graduated from Cass Technical High School in 1945. He joined the United States Navy the same year. He served in the South Pacific and was stationed in a Patrol Torpedo Squadron in the Philippines. On Sept. 17, 1949 he married Flora Lee Reibeling. She preceded him in death in 1986. He then married Kathleen Lark in 1994, and she survives. He is a graduate of Lawrence Technological University with a BSME Degree. He worked as a Pipeline Engineer for the Michigan Consolidated Gas Company. His next job was a Production Supervisor in Truck and Car Production at the Ford Motor Company. He was Assistant Superintendant of the Thunderbird Production before leaving Ford for Chrysler. His career with Chrysler lasted 32 ½ years. His position before retirement in 1991 was Assistant Chief Engineer of Vehicle Systems Development at the Chelsea, Mich., Proving Grounds and as a Senior Engineering Manager at Corporate Headquarters at Highland Park, Mich. After retirement he became the Zoning Officer for Rollin Township for 12 years. He has enjoyed Devils Lake with his family since 1971. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, riding the lawn tractor, smoking his pipe and drinking a cool one on the patio. He is survived by his wife of almost 16 years, Kathleen; his son, William Spencer; daughter, Susan Beth Morris; stepsons, Robert (Darla) Lark and Steven (Julia) Lark; and stepdaughter, Julie (Matt) Wright. He also leaves seven grandchildren, William and Kimberly Shollenberger, Emma and Lauren Morris, Steven and Elizabeth Wright and Joseph Lark. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Todd Morris. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 30, 2010, at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison, with the Rev. Robert Henning officiating. Burial will take place in Green’s Lakeside Cemetery at Manitou Beach. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 29, 2010. Full Military Rites will be performed by Hannan-Colvin Post #180 American Legion, Hudson. Memorial contributions to the Addison Fire Department for Lake Rescue Equipment.
