Archie Vincent McMillan Born in Kalamazoo, MI on July 25, 1940 and walked on April 11, 2010. Archie was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed going to the casino. He was a "tribal elder" of the Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians. He was a Native American craftsman and trader at powwows throughout the Great Lakes area. Archie was preceded in death by sons David and Jeffrey McMillan, parents; Archie Edwin and Esther McMillan, brothers; David, Jerry and Bruce McMillan, sisters; Joyce Rueckert and Judy Tackett, and special cousin Bruce Kahgee. He is survived by his wife Marie (Harr) McMillan and sons; Archie (Karen) and Scott McMillan, and daughter; Gwen (Ron) Scutt, 10 grandchildren; Mandy Curylo, Christopher (Chip)Woodbury, Mary Sharp, Travis McMillan, Shawna McMillan, Corey and Casey Scutt, Hannah, Autumn and Samantha McMillan, two great grandchildren; Haleigh Curylo and Alysa Sharp, sisters; Arvilla (Mike) Bateman, Joan (Brent) Brown, Janice (Richard) Beckhorn, Marie Simmons, Carol (Richard) Hubble, Sue Vertz and Audrey Heganbarth, brother; Donald McMillan, and many nieces and nephews. Betty Jane Green Age 74 of the Morrice/Perry area was called home to be with her Lord on Sunday April 11, 2010 at Ingham Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at Watkins Brothers Funeral Home in Perry on Wednesday April 14, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Gib Hale will officiate with burial to follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Perry. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday 2-4 & 6-8 PM. Betty was born in Alma, MI on June 27, 1935, the daughter of Lewis & Alma B. (Cook) Whitford. She graduated from Haslett High School in 1955 and on December 15, 1978 she married Richard Green. Betty attended the Baptist Church of Haines City, FL where she and Richard retired to for 16 years. She was an avid reader, loving and giving person and loved to spend time with her family which meant the world to her. Betty was a bank teller for various banks in the area and retired from 1st Federal of Perry. From 1974 trough 1979 she delivered the Detroit Free Press to the Morrice area to help support her family. She is survived by her children: Steve (Julie) Johnston of Ashburn, VA, Mike (Trisha) Johnston of Owosso, Scott Johnston of Morrice, and Karen (Mike Miller) Johnston of Swartz Creek. Step children: Bill and Shelly Green, Greg and Stacy Green, Tressa and Jerry Tapp, and Chris and Ken Raber. Many grandchildren, 2 sisters; Maxine and Bob Evans, Erma King and Gene, brother Ray and Paula Whitford. She was predeceased by her husband Richard of 28 years, son David, granddaughter Bethany and her parents. The family would like to thank all those who cared for Betty including The Pines of Lansing and Ingham Regional Medical Center. Clyde A. Rapson Clyde Allen Rapson, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Mikado, Mich. and Myakka City, Fla., and Warren, Mich., passed away on April 11, 2010, following a long illness. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from November '65 to October '67 and earned three Purple Hearts. He worked at Chrysler in Warren until he moved to Florida in the 1970's. He moved back to Michigan about six years ago to be near his family due to his deteriorating health condition. For the past few years, Clyde has been a resident of the VA Medical Center in Grand Rapids, Mich. Clyde was the father of Valerie Ann Rapson, Andrea Kay Rapson and Joseph Paul Rapson. He was the grandfather of Raina Aiello. Also survived by mother, Grace A. Rapson; brothers, Ricky S. and Larry J. Rapson; sisters, Sandra D. Campbell, Judy M. Prell, and Debra L. Zebari; special friends, Lester Croyle of Warren; Henry Nagy of Sarasota, Fla.; his cousin, Earl (Bob) Remilong, and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Harmon of Mikado. David Gale Hammond of Colon, and formerly of North Adams, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2010, at the Battle Creek Health System. He was born July 22, 1949, in Hillsdale County, a son of Dale and Eleanor (Winner) Hammond. Mr. Hammond worked for many years as a prison guard for the State of Michigan Department of Corrections in Jackson, and later worked in the Quality Control Department at the Eaton Corporation in Three Rivers. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding motorcycles. He is survived by his mother, Eleanor “Virginia” Rhoades of Hillsdale; three daughters, Stacy (Joseph) Hodges of Quincy, Kimberly “K.C.” Saxton of Jonesville and Christina (James) Young of Jonesville; a son, David Hugh Hammond of Georgia; a stepdaughter, Francine (Richard) Nickles of Reading; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers; and a sister and his fiancee, Debbie Swafford of Colon. He was preceded in death by his father; a brother; and a grandchild. The family will receive friends for visitation from 1-2 p.m. Friday at the Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home in North Adams. A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. David Gale Hammond will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Pickell officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Dennis C. Kayner, age 59, of Tecumseh died Monday, April 5, 2010, at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born Nov. 6, 1950,in Tecumseh, the son of Lee and Hazel (Engel) Kayner. He was married to Debora Wallace on Sept. 1, 1973, and she survives. Dennis was a Research Engineer in the Orthopaedic Research Lab at U. of M. since September 1983. Dennis enjoyed flying and had received his private pilot license. He had played softball for the U. of M. ORL League and enjoyed riding motorcycles, outdoor sports, woodworking, hunting and being outdoors. In addition to his wife, Debora, Dennis is survived by his parents, Lee and Hazel Kayner of Tecumseh; his mother-in-law, A. Phyllis Wallace of Tecumseh; two special companions, Meka and Tasu; sister-in-law, Cathy (Jim) Craig of Milan; and several special nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, one brother, Douglas; and his father-in-law, Leo Wallace. Dennis was a loving husband, son and uncle and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Dennis was a donor to Gift of Life. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Monday, April 12, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Tecumseh. The Funeral Service will follow at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Donald J. Berkley, 83, of Tecumseh passed away April 10, 2010. Donald was born March 4, 1927, in Milan, Mich., the son of Rollo and Vera (Hoskins) Berkley. On August 20, 1949, he married Bonnie J. Buttolph in Britton. She preceded him in death July 17, 1986. Donald was a graduate of Milan High School, Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan with his master’s degree. After high school he served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific and the Philippines during World War II. In 1988 he retired from the Tecumseh Public Schools teaching and serving as Junior High School Principal for 37 years.    He was a lifetime member of the University of Michigan Alumni Association, served on the Tecumseh School Board and was a member of the Episcopal Church. Don is survived by a brother-in-law, Arthur Keller of Milan; brothers Gerald Berkley of Milan and James Berkley of Oregon; a cousin, Sue Martin of Holt; special dear friends, James (Janet) Toole of Tecumseh, Tom (Erin) Toole of Connecticut and Charles (Sue) Gross of Tecumseh; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Bonnie, he was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Robert and Orlon; and sister, Betty. At Don’s request, a private burial will be in Brookside Cemetery.  A service to honor Don’s life will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with Dr. Kenneth Boyd officiating. Military Honors will be performed by the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Team, Toledo, Ohio. (May) Coggiano, of Clearwater, Fla., passed away Sunday, April 4, 2010, at the age of 94, at the Clearwater Comprehensive Health Care Facility. She was born March 12, 1916, in Frontier, the daughter of John and Hope (Thompson) May.  Dorris loved Jesus Christ with all her heart, soul, mind and body. Her family was very precious to her and that family includes her loving son and daughter-in-law, Robert (Linda) Horr of Dunedin, Florida; one brother, Don (Nan) May of Hillsdale; nephews, Philip May of Jonesville, Doug (Lynne) May of Hillsdale and Mike “Gregg” (Sharon) May of Arcadia, Calif. and other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Gene Arnold; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Arnold and one grandson, Greg Arnold.  Dorris (May) Coggiano read her Bible every day and even paid someone to come and read the Bible to her when she could not read it because of her eyesight. She was a great giver of her tithe and enjoyed giving other gifts to people that she came across in her lifetime. She loved people and had many friends and she enjoyed visiting with them many times over breakfast or dinner. She also loved going to church when she was able to go and enjoyed flowers and working outdoors.  A private graveside service to honor the life of Dorris A. (May) Coggiano has taken place at the Lakeview Cemetery in Hillsdale. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to a charity of their choice. Eleanor J. Glinski, age 85, of Ottawa Lake passed away on Monday, April 5, 2010, at Aspen Grove Assisted Living, Lambert­ville. She was born on Feb. 22, 1925 in Toledo, Ohio, to Leo and Mary (Wisniewska) Koperski. Eleanor worked for Ohio Bell, Tiedkes and B&R Baker. A former member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Toledo, she joined St. Anthony Catholic Church in Temperance, Mich., in 1965. She was a longtime member of T.O.P.S. and recipient of their K.O.P.S. (Keep Off Pounds Successfully) award. Eleanor excelled at baking and cooking, providing her family and friends with wonderful Polish dishes and homemade bread. She also canned, preserved and sold fruits and vegetables from her acre garden and was a skilled knitter who provided socks, mittens and gloves to veterans during World War II. She especially enjoyed playing Bunco with her friends for 25 years, and loved to read. Eleanor’s survivors include her children, Richard (Denise) Glinski of Adrian, Ruth Glinski of Reno, Nev., and Robert Glinski of Ottawa Lake; and grandchildren, Daniel, Michael, Melanie and Christopher Glinski. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Glinski, on Jan. 15, 2007; her parents, and her brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Gertrude Koperski. Family and friends may visit on Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. in the Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114-128 E. Elizabeth P. Zakas Delta Township Passed away January 13, 2010. Elizabeth was born November 7, 1932 in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan to the late Maurice and Harriet (Woodworth) Piatt. She retired from St. Lawrence Hospital as a Histotechnologist. Elizabeth wintered at Amelia Island, Florida, was an avid golfer at the Grand Ledge Country Club, a devout bird watcher and loved spending summers at Lake Michigan "Birchwood" community. Eugene G. Blossey Lansing Age 90, passed away April 11, 2010. Born June 21, 1919 in Hamlet, IN. Eugene was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WW II. He retired from General Motors after 33 years of service, and was the retired owner operator of Blossey's Motorcycles on North Grand River in Lansing. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, and enjoyed attending car shows with his 1933 Morgan. He loved traveling. He was a member of the Great Lakes Morgan Owners Group, the Lansing Motorcycle Club, and a charter life member of the American Motorcyclist Assoc. He was a member of Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Germaine "Ruth" in 1991; son, Michael in 1999; and wife, Lucille in 2010. Surviving are his son, William (Colleen) Blossey; step-son, Russell (Jeanne) Morrell; daughter-in-law, Jill Blossey; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous other family members and friends. John J. Bolhuis, 92, of Battle Creek, formerly of Coldwater, died Sunday, April 11, 2010 at the Community Health Center of Branch County in Coldwater. The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 16, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Mike Brown officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Friday beginning at 9 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater. Mr. Bolhuis was born Nov. 19, 1917 in Summit, Ill., to John and Anna (Rot) Bolhuis. He married Catherine Jager on Nov. 23, 1939. She preceded him in death in 1993. He then married Virginia (Nugent) Jager on Dec. 7, 2002. He served in the US Navy during WWII, helping with barrack and cabinet construction. After the war, he continued his work in constructing houses and cabinet finishing and installation. John started his own cabinet business, Bolhuis Millwork in Evergreen Park, Ill., and was well known for the superior quality of his cabinetry. He and his wife moved to Coldwater Lake, where they enjoyed fishing, boating and visits from their children and grandchildren. John continued to craft cabinets after relocating to Coldwater. Over the years, John took many fishing trips with his friends, including one of his favorite trips to Belize. He loved to talk about these fishing trips and share pictures of the fish he caught. Mr. Bolhuis resided in Coldwater for over 30 years before moving to Battle Creek in 2002. He is survived by his wife Virginia, his brother Egbert (Jean) Bolhuis, sisters Gert (Gil) DeYoung and Theresa (Eugene) Riley, his sons John (Kris) Bolhuis, Jim (Jean) Bolhuis and Ken (Sharon) Bolhuis, his daughters Betty (Ken) Amberson and Beverly Bolhuis, 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Mary Beth Ballor Mary Beth Ballor, age 56, a resident of Mount Clemens, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 7, 2010. She was born in Mount Clemens on January 29, 1954, to Raymond J. and Patricia A. Erskine Ballor. She was a graduate of Mount Clemens High School, class of 1972, a member of the USAF from 1972-1976. She obtained her BSME from Michigan Tech and upon graduation, went to work at General Electric in Morrison, Illinois as a mechanical engineer until she left GE in 1994 to assist in the care of her mother and her sister, Christine. She truly cherished the time she spent with her family and friends doing the many things she loved to do — travel, attend her nieces' sporting and cultural events, card playing, golfing, hiking and "rum-running." She was very strong in her faith which she lived out as a volunteer for Perpetual Adoration, Meals on Wheels, and as the primary care giver for her sister. Mary Beth is survived by her siblings, Theresa (Robert) Polakovich, Christine, James (Christy), Barbara (David) Coy, John (Angela), and Richard (Lee) and predeceased by her parents. Mr. Rutan served his country in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1948. He was a member of Cambria Baptist Church and a faithful attender of the Gospel Barn in Hillsdale. He worked for many years as a builder and built many homes in the Jackson County and Lenawee County areas, and he also had a passion for farming. A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Paul Richard Rutan will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Don Harkey officiating. Interment will take place in the Somerset Center Cemetery in Somerset Township. The family will receive friends for visitation 2-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home in Hillsdale. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may make memorial contributions to Samaritan’s Purse. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Rex Weinberg, age 89 of Kline’s Resort, Three Rivers, died Sunday, April 11, 2010, at the Three Rivers Health emergency room.  He was born on April 1, 1921, in Vicksburg, a son of the late Watson and Zella (Davis) Weinberg. After high school, Rex worked at the Parchment Paper Mill before he met and married Frances Marker on Aug. 16, 1941, in Kalamazoo. Rex was a farmer in the Vicksburg and Mendon area, later settling at a home on Hampton Road. He and his wife operated a dry-cleaning and laundry business, and a John Deere farm equipment and lawn and garden center in Vicksburg for several years.  He was a member of the St. Joseph County Farm Bureau, and had served on the board of directors for the Federal Land Bank.  He was a 50-year member of the West Mendon United Methodist Church, and had spent the past several winters in Florida. Rex is survived by his wife, Frances; a son and daughter in law, Ron and Pat Weinberg of Mendon; a son-in-law, Patrick Jergens of Three Rivers; five grandchildren, Sheli  (Doug) Cupp of Three Rivers, Troy  (Sandra) Weinberg of  Three Rivers, Jeff (Elizabeth) Jergens of  Sturgis, Robin (Mark) Parks of Mendon, and Tim (Tonya) Jergens of Mendon; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother, Wilber (Ruth)  Weinberg of Mendon; a sister, Lois  (Dick) Henry of Glen Arbor; a brother-in-law, Wayne Marker; two sisters-in-law, Mary Roberts and Maxine York; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lyle and Wilson; and by a daughter, Carolyn Jergens.  The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon.  Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the West Mendon United Methodist Church, with Pastor Ward Pierce officiating. She had been employed by Bixby Hospital for 20 years, retiring in 1983. Ruth is survived by two sons, Lewis Barnett of Tempe, Ariz., and James (Ella) Barnett of Tecumseh; six grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Woodard, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Raymond, Carl and Lewis; two sisters, Carrie and Naomi; and a great-granddaughter, Jessica Barnett. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 12, 2010, at 1 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with Pastor Mike Dunson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Venla E. Selaty Venla Elizabeth "Fina" Selaty, age 82, passed away on Good Friday, April 2, 2010. She was born January 7, 1928, in Ramsey, Mich., to Oscar and Margaret Juntti. Her family moved from the Upper Peninsula to Detroit in 1942. In 1947 she married John N. Selaty. Venla returned to night school and graduated in 1971, from New Haven High, with her son Steven. She worked at the Mount Clemens Pottery in the 1970s, moved to Florida and lived in the Tampa Bay area for 20 years, returning to Mich. in 2004. Venla was truly an inspiration and a "hero" to many. She is survived by children, Nicholas, Aaron (Jan), Anthony (Rebecca), and Sylvanna; four grandchildren, Crystal (Jon), Jasan (Andrea), Aubrey, Hanna; and five great-grandchildren, Alexis, Sarah, Joe, Jack, and Ben. Venla was preceded in death by her ex-husband, John Selaty; two sons, Steven and John; and son-in-law, Gary Shreves. Please make donations to the American Cancer Society.

(Melissa George) Hoard of Coldwater, grandson Eric Hartbarger, granddaughter Morgan Dale Hoard, two brothers from Texas and a sister, from Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a daughter, Rina Hartbarger in 1997. William loved spoiling his granddaughter and gardening, especially growing horseradish. There will be a gathering of family and friends on Friday, April 16, 2010 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the Putnam Funeral Home in Coldwater.
