Edward F. Hicks Lansing Born in Pinckney, Michigan on December 7, 1922 son of the late Ray and Edna (Webb) Hicks passed away on Sunday, May 30, 2010 at the age of 87. Edward is survived by his wife of 61 years, Arnetta Hicks; son, Michael (Theresa) Hicks, daughter, Peggy Pyburn; four grandchildren, Laura Hicks, Jonathan Hicks, Matthew Pyburn and Allison Pyburn; great-grandson, Dillon Pyburn; three brothers, Ray, Ron, and Don Hicks; two sisters, Betty Cohoon and Florence Hicks along with many nieces, nephews and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Hicks and his sister, Helen Hawks. Edward was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard serving during WWII. He was a professional photographer and was owner and operator of Edwards Photographic Studio in Lansing for many years. He was a member and past-president of the Professional Photographers of Michigan and a member of the Lansing Optimist Club. Edward was a longtime member of Christ United Methodist Church in Lansing. He was an avid traveler, golfer and spent countless hours working in his yard. Funeral services will be held at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. with the Rev. Charles Grauer officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday one hour prior to the service. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Christ United Methodist Church or the, in memory of Edward Hicks.

Herman Thompson Jr., 80, of Sturgis, passed away Friday evening, May 28, 2010, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis. He was born May 21, 1930, a son of the late Herman and Pearl (Washburn) Thompson. Herman’s early life was lived in Burr Oak, where he graduated from Burr Oak High School. He had resided for several years in Florida and returned to Sturgis in 1988. Following several years of dedicated employment, he retired from Dorr Products in Burr Oak. He was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and had a true appreciation for classic automobiles. Herman is survived by three granddaughters, Amanda Sigler of Sturgis, Jessica Meister of Three Rivers and Jennifer Sigler of Vicksburg; three grandsons, Flynn Thompson, Quinn Thompson and Colin Sigler, all of Sturgis; five great-grandchildren, Zoe, Keagan, Ella, Shawn and Willow; a sister, Ila “Pat” McNeil of Nottawa; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Delores Sigler and her husband, Kendall Sigler; a son, Richard Thompson; a grandson, William Sigler; and a sister, Joan Washburn. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis. A memorial service celebrating the life of Herman Thompson Jr. will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. Michael Klefahn of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis, where full military rites will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mr. Thompson’s memory consider the charity of one’s choice. Lee Ethel Williams Lansing Age 88, was born October 11, 1921to Charlie and Cattie House in Princeton, Dallas County, AR and went home to be with the Lord on May 28, 2010. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Richard Booker Frierson. She was employed for over 25 years as a nurse's aid at Kent County Community Hospital and retired in 1986. She was a member of Trinity AME Church where she served on the Senior Stewardess Board. Survivors include: her daughters, Rachel Lee Hopkins, Evelyn Jean Burkes, and Marva Leverne (Adolph) Yarrell; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends. Friends may visit Mrs. Williams Wednesday, June 2, 9 a.m. - 9 p.m., at the Riley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 3, 12:00 p.m., at Trinity A.M.E. Church, 3500 W. Holmes Rd. Louise was young at heart and had a wonderful sense of humor. We will all miss her laughter and wisdom. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, computer games and email. She loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, George Day; 6 children, Martha (Ken) Powelson of Charlotte; George (Rose) Day of Scottsdale, AZ; Lorraine (Carl) Burton of Charlotte; Diane Day of Okemos; Pat (Bev) Day of Charlotte and Jennifer (Ed) Dunton of Tega Cay, SC; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; brothers Paul Wright of Jonesville, MI; and Ray (Fay) J. Wright of Willis, and sister Ella Parsons of Fredericksburg, MD; sisters-in-law, Barbara (George) Carpenter of Ann Arbor; Marie (David) Laskey of Milan, MI; June Hutting of Whitmore Lake; Rose (Rick) Recchia of Willis; brothers-in-law Joseph Day of Bradenton, FL and Roger (Claudia) Day of Manchester. She is also survived by numerous friends, especially her many friends at the Eaton Place. She is predeceased by her stillborn son, Liam Day; parents Ray and Minnie Wright; sisters, Mildred and Donna and adopted sister Arlene. Susan Alice Steffey, age 71, of Mendon, died Friday May 28, 2010, at her home.   She was born Aug. 1, 1938, in Grosse Pointe, a daughter of Ivan and Marjorie (Gooch) Misener. She graduated from Pontiac High School in 1956.   On Sept. 11, 1959, she  married Herbert Steffey in Pontiac. They continued to reside in suburban Detroit and retired to Mendon in 1992. Susan was a homemaker, and enjoyed canning items from her garden, along with cooking, baking and crocheting. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and camping, and life along the river. She attended the Leonidas Baptist Church. Susan is survived by her husband, Herbert; a daughter, Debra (Dale) Baker of Mendon; a son, Herbert (Carol) Steffey Jr. of Millersburg, Ohio; four grandchildren, Alicia Baker, Kari Baker, Brian Baker and Jeff Welch; three great-grandchildren, Isaac, Michael and Emily (along with soon expected, Autumn); two sisters, Sally Cipher of Oregon and Polly Hight of Walled Lake; two brothers, Tom Misener of Oregon and Mike Misener of California; a step-brother, Jon Rives of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.   She was preceded in death by her parents; and by her stepfather, Earl Rives. The family will receive friends from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Pastor David Stevens of the Leonidas Baptist Church officiating.  Cremation will follow services.
