Dearest father of the late Carolyn (Paul) Smith, Suzanne (Dean) Schwartz, Allen, Jr. (the late Deborah) Cogan, Linda Cogan and the late William Cogan. Proud grandfather of Rhonda, Jonathan, Donald, Robert and Matthew. Loving great-grandfather of Daniel and Rebbecca. Preceded in death by his parents Frank and Mabel Cogan; brothers, John, Frank and Richard Cogan. Mr. Cogan is an Army Air Force veteran. He was a pilot and trainer during World War II, member of the K of C Fr. Solanus Council 3797 and an avid sportsman. Andre McRae Spencer Andre McRae Spencer, age 50, of Mount Clemens, Mich., died June 13, 2010. He was born January 1, 1960 in Selma, Ala. Andre attended Mount Clemens Public Schools. He spent 15 years in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge with the rank of sergeant. He was employed by the Clintondale School system as well as the Mount Clemens School system. He is survived by son, Andre Macrae Spencer, Jr.; mother, Laura Mae Spencer; five siblings, Joe (Melody) Calhoun, Minnie Brock, Clarence Spencer, Jr., Rose (James) Hubbard and Ramire (Marie) Spencer; stepdaughter, Alina Quarterman; Aunt Idella Pugh; five Godchildren, Aisha Brewer, Tariq Edwards, Destiny, Danae and Deziree Lewis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Kaye Spencer; father, Clarence Spencer; and sister, Dorothy Jean Logan. Barbara Ann Donovan, age 79, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at Thurston Woods Village nursing center in Sturgis. She was born Dec. 19, 1930, in Detroit, a daughter of the late Carl and Hildegarde (Sendzik) Jarson. On Sept. 27, 1958, she married Robert Donovan in Detroit. He preceded her in death in 1994. Barbara has been a resident of Sturgis since 2000 previously living in Arizona and Casco, Mich. She had been employed by the U.S. government as a secretary for the Tank Plant in Warren, Mich., for 30 years, retiring in 1989. Barbara enjoyed horses and going to horse shows with her daughter, day trips to the casino, and was an avid bingo player. Surviving are one daughter, Shelley Donovan of Sturgis; step-daughter, Maureen (Melvin) Busch of Berkley, Mich.; two step-grandchildren, Michelle Martineau of New Mexico and Melvin Busch III of Berkley; two sisters, Pam Jarson of Missouri and Judy Shanahan of Arizona; and four beloved dogs, Lucy, Winston, Cotton, and Gracie. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; two sisters, Nancy Jarson and Patricia Fender. According to her wishes, there will be no visitation or services as cremation has taken place. The family suggest memorial donations in Barbara’s memory be directed to the American Lung Association (lungusa.org) or the Pedigree Foundation (Pedigreefoundation.org). Envelopes are available at the Hackman Family Funeral Home Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis. Bernita Mary Fedewa

Bernita Mary Fedewa Pewamo Bernita Mary Fedewa, of Pewamo, passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2010. She is with her Lord. Bernita was born on a farm southeast of Pewamo in Clinton County on July 20, 1917, the daughter of Oscar M. and Dorthea "Dora" (Wohlshied) Cook and oldest of thirteen children. Bernita graduated from Pewamo High School in 1935, Clinton County Normal School of St. Johns in 1936 and Central Michigan University. She taught at the local rural schools for four years and later at St. John the Baptist School in Hubbardston from 1956 to 1963 and at Most Holy Trinity School in Fowler from 1963 to 1982. In retirement she taught piano lessons in her home for more than 25 years. In her spare time, Bernita enjoyed playing piano, bird watching, gardening and spiritual reading. She was a life member of St. Joseph Parish in Pewamo, choir member, director, and a member of the Altar Society. Bernita also belonged to the Mid-Michigan Audubon Society, serving as its president for a number of years. Bernita married Walter J. Fedewa, a Pewamo area farmer, on October 22, 1949 and he preceded her in death on August 18, 1988. Bernita is survived by her sons, John and Gerard, daughter-in-law, Liduina, and grandson, Orry, all of Pewamo; her sisters, Dorothy Golata of Lansing, Ella Thelen of Williamston, Marcia Cook of Ionia, and Jenny (Robert) Weber of Cincinnati, Ohio; and her brothers, James (Jean) Cook of Lansing, Donald (Barbara) Cook of Lansing, Roy (Dolores) Cook of Fenwick, and Leon (Jeanne) Cook of Lansing. Bernita was also the proud aunt of forty nine nieces and nephews. Bernita was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Bernita Schrauben Cook; son, Donald J. Fedewa; daughter-in-law, Lesley Daman Fedewa; Lesley's parents, Fred and the late Marguerite Daman; David Cook, her brother; sisters, Angela Coonrod, Isabelle Wilson, and Cay De Young; brothers-in-law, Joseph Coonrod, Donald Wilson, Jake De Young, Alvin Thelen, and John Golata. A Funeral Mass for Bernita will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo, Friday, June 18, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Charlon Mason officiating, burial at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church, Wednesday, and Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with rosaries Wednesday, 3 p.m., and 8 p.m., Thursday at 3 p.m., and a Vigil Service on Thursday at 8 p.m. Besides masses, the family suggest memorials be made to St. Joseph School Trust Fund Pewamo. Betty L. Beauman, 82, of Monroe passed away Saturday evening, June 5, 2010, at Mercy Memorial Hospital. She was born Aug. 17, 1927, in Tipton, Mich., the daughter of Ernest and Alma (Fisher) Tiede. She was a 1945 graduate of Adrian High School and moved to Monroe. On Oct. 18, 1948, she was united in marriage with Harold E. Beauman in Blissfield, and he survives.   Betty was a secretary employed by Detroit Stoker for 17 years. She was also a beautician, having attended the Michigan College of Beauty. She also attended Monroe County Community College. A proud homemaker, she was known to be a great cook, enjoyed knitting, and was involved in Cub Scouts as a den mother. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, four sons, Harold E. (Cynthia) Beauman of Pittsburg, Texas, Gregory T. (Sandra) Beauman of Corona, Calif., Kevin E. (Cynthia) Beauman and Jeffrey E. Beauman, both of Monroe; three sisters, Norma Cox of Jackson, Mich., Joann Hoelter of Perrysburg, Ohio, and Katherine Hosler of Adrian, Mich.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Sadly, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Julius and Herbert Tiede.   Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, at the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Road, Monroe. She will lie in state on Thursday at the Redeemer Fellowship Church, 5305 Evergreen Drive, Monroe, from 10 a.m. until a Celebration of her life at 11 a.m. The Rev. He retired from the State of Michigan after 38 years of service; graduated from Grand Ledge High School, Class of 1950; was a Past Master and member of the Masonic Lodge #412; member of the Lansing Motorcycle Club, and also a 4H Leader. Bruce enjoyed collecting tractors and most of all loved his grandchildren and spending time with family. Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Beverly G. and their sons, David E. (Cindy) Dixon of Kinsley, MI and Jon A. (Linda) Dixon of Grant, MI; six grandchildren: Tom, Tim, Bruce, Scott, David Dixon, and Anna (Matt) Doyle, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Amanda (Schneeberger) Dixon; sister, Beatrice E. Slee; and brother, Kenneth Dixon. Chuck was known in the area as “Dave’s Mobile Repair” the guy who could fix gas and diesel engines, no job too small or too large. Surviving Churck are his mother, Mary (Bill) DeRoche of Homasassa, Fla.; a son, Trenton David Frays of Three Rivers; two sisters, Christine (Charles) Maher of Sturgis and Debra (Gary) Kline of Southlake, Texas; nieces and nephews Simon Cholometes, Maxwell Maher, CJ (Sarah) Maher, Katie, Jackie and Sam Kline; and grandfather, Walter (Dorothy) Sult. He was preceded in death by his father, David Frays; and grandparents Helen Sult and Frances and Karl Frays. Elwood worked as a machine operator at Nickell Industries formerly Patrick Industries in Middlebury and previously worked many years at Sturgis Iron and Metal as a crane operator. Elwood enjoyed going to the casinos and garage sales. He also loved woodworking and working at Lil Louie’s Pizza. Surviving are his daughters, Linda Pelmear of Arcadia, Fla., Connie (Robert) Parker of Centreville, Lori Gest of Three Rivers; sons, Michael Gest of Centreville, Jody (Dawn) Gest of Centreville; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edith Gest; son, James Gest; grandson James Butcher Sr.; four brothers, Harold, Paul, Roy and Wilbu;r and a sister Maxine Robbins. Imogene Ruth Blanchard, age 88, of Sturgis, passed away Friday June 11, 2010, at Thurston Woods Care Center in Sturgis.   Imogene was born in White Pigeon, Mich., on June 27, 1921, the daughter of William Walter Messner and Mary Rebecca (Freed) Messner.   Imogene married Donald H. Blanchard on May 24, 1941.  They had two sons:  Donald R. Blanchard (Lydia) of Pine Lake, Mich., and James W. Blanchard (Beth Ann) of Rensselaer, Ind., who survive.   Imogene was the last surviving member of seven brothers and sisters.  She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, on Feb. 28, 1981; three brothers, Ora Messner, (Annabelle), Freed Messner (Betty), Ollie Messner (Leona), and three sisters, Fay Shemberger (Loyd), Ellen Todd (Frank), and Dorothy Hamilton (Ed); and one great-granddaughter, Amber Rain Hamilton. Surviving in addition to her sons are: a sister-in-law, Eleanor (Minor) Tubergen of Kalamazoo; two granddaughters, Emily Blanchard of Denver, Colo., and Jennifer Blanchard, of Waterford, Mich.; one grandson, Sean Blanchard of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and one great-grandson, Storm Hamilton of Waterford, Mich.; and special friend Ruth Wade.   Imogene worked 13 years in the White Pigeon School system.  She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in White Pigeon, a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, a past president of the Mintdale Ladies club, and a life member of the Eastern Star, The Maccabees, and Royal Neighbors clubs.   Imogene enjoyed baking and always had cookies, cakes and pies available for visitors.  She loved family gatherings, liked to travel, enjoyed trips to the casino, and entered many contests, always expecting to win.  She used her car as a second home, helping others with doctor appointments and some times just for fun. Visitation will be held at the Farrand Funeral Home, 300 N. Kalamazoo St. in White Pigeon, Tuesday June 14 from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday morning, June 15, at the Presbyterian Church in White Pigeon from 10-11 a.m., with services following at 11 a.m.   Memorials may be given to the St. Joseph County Commission on Aging, or the Presbyterian Church of White Pigeon.

Irene E. Menser, age 88, of Sturgis,  went to dance with Jesus on His streets paved in gold early Thursday morning June 10, 2010 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis. She was born Aug. 23, 1921, in Detroit, a daughter of the late Louis and Anna (Vansga) Gavar. Irene had resided in Sturgis since July 1969. Prior to coming to Sturgis, she had lived and traveled throughout the world with her husband while he served in the U.S. Air Force. On May 29, 1948, she married William A. Menser in Bridgman. Irene had been employed by Seger’s Department Store in Sturgis and she was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker who loved dancing, cooking and sewing. She was also a talented artist and cherished her cats, all six of them. She was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis and for many years she was a member of the Gray Ladies of the U.S. Air Force. Irene’s family and friends will always remember her strong faith and always looking forward to being with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 62 years, William; two daughters, Mary M. (David) Scott of Kalamazoo and Margaret I. Menser of Santa Monica, Calif.; three grandsons, William C. (Marilee) Menser of Kalamazoo, John D. Scott of Whitefish, Mont., and Michael R. (Kathy) Scott of Grand Rapids; a great granddaughter, Aleeya Menser; a great-grandson, Micah Menser; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, John William Menser and Richard James Menser; two sisters, Elizabeth Gavar and Margaret Davis; and a brother, Louis Gavar. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 2-2:45 p.m. Monday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. Kathryn Anne Schwamm, 79, of Blissfield passed away peacefully on Monday, June 14, 2010, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Kathryn was born on May 5, 1931, in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of Fred W. Green and Genevieve K. (McCarty) Marten. On April 4, 1953, Kathryn was united in marriage to Carl L. Schwamm. He preceded her in death just seven short months ago on Nov. 12, 2009. Kathryn graduated from Scott High School in Toledo, Ohio, where she was a very competitive swimmer. She worked for the Blissfield Community Schools as a Bus Driver for 25 years, retiring in 1996. Kathryn had many favorite pastimes including putting puzzles together and roller-skating. She was an avid pianist and organist. Kathryn also enjoyed bowling and was active on the Tuesday night women’s league at Rich Lanes in Blissfield. Surviving are her six children, Debbie (Keith) Fischer of Blissfield, Daniel Schwamm of Palmyra, Mark (Sally) Schwamm of LaSalle, Mich., Gay Sayler of Blissfield, Timothy Schwamm of Phoenix, Ariz., and Teri (Rodney) Lippens of Blissfield; two sisters, Mary Baker and Sharon Farmer, both of Toledo; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and loving friend and caregiver, Char. In addition to her husband, Carl, Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Kathryn Schwamm will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Wagley Funeral Home/Tagsold Chapel in Blissfield. Burial will follow at Toledo Memorial Park in Sylvania, Ohio. Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Kimberly Ann Gushwa, 54, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away early Saturday morning, June 12, 2010, at her home. She was born Sept. 16, 1955, in Sturgis, Mich., a daughter of the late Robert and Evelyn (Gressman) Davis. Kim was a lifelong resident of Sturgis and graduated from Sturgis High School with the class of 1974. On March 29, 2005, she married Robert Gushwa in Las Vegas. Kim had been employed by the Harter Group in Middlebury, Ind., for several years. Prior to joining Harter’s she had worked at Lund-Deflecta Shield in Howe, Ind., for over 10 years. For several years she performed with the Sturgis Wind Symphony playing the bass clarinet. She enjoyed camping, traveling by motorcycle with her husband, bowling and playing cards. She loved her five cats and her dog Spyder who never left her side. Kim truly cherished time spent with her family and many friends. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Gushwa; one daughter, Kelli (her fiancé Gary E. Lewis, Jr.) Stone of Sturgis; two brothers, Bruce (Sandy) Davis and Randy (Mary) Davis, both of Sturgis; sister-in-law, Sherry Davis; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Larry Davis. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, (269) 651-2331. Lillian E. Swartzlander, age 84, of Adrian died on Sunday, June 13, 2010, at Herrick Medical Center in Tecumseh. She was born Dec. 17, 1925, in Whitehouse, Ohio, to Raymond and Ethyl (Null) Longnecker. She married Duane Swartzlander on Aug. 22, 1953. Prior to moving to Adrian in 1974, Lillian was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Whitehouse, Ohio, and was a current member of Ridgeway Church of the Nazarene. The Swartzlanders were owner-operators of the Big Red Q Quickprint franchise in Adrian, which opened in 1972, and in 1977 they achieved the honor of operating the top franchise in the country.  Since leaving the franchise, the business is still owned by the family and is now known as Legacy Printing. Lillian loved to travel with her husband, especially to Hawaii, Alaska and Europe. They also enjoyed spending time at their vacation home in Gatlinburg, Tenn. In addition to her husband, Duane, she is survived by three children, Gary (Peggy) of Jackson, Mich., Dennis (Kay) of Adrian and Rita of Jackson; five grandchildren, David, Matthew and Nathaniel (Sarah) Swartzlander, and Mason and Emily Hugus; brother, Marvin (Joanne) Longnecker of Whitehouse, Ohio; sisters, Eileen Dayton of Whitehouse, Grace (Donald) Helle of Chandlersville, Ohio, and Karen Longnecker of Whitehouse. She was preceded in death by her parents, and daughter-in-law, Candy Swartzlander. Funeral services for Lillian will be held on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home-Adrian with Pastor Ray Hansen officiating. Norman was a farmer for most of his life and also worked at Maple Villa Farms in Quincy for 30 years, retiring in 1990. He was a past member of the Merry Mixers Square Dance Club, an avid fisherman, and loved the outdoors. On April 17, 1955, he married Carol Elaine Wonders and she preceded him in death in 1997. Surviving are children Margaret (Mike) Michael of Montgomery, Larry (Ann) Drumm of Quincy, Susan(Mike) Martin of Quincy and Norman (Shelby) Drumm of Calera, Ala., sisters Stella (Fred) Trujello of Hillsdale, Ruth Harris of Tampa, Fla. and Clara Keck of Litchfield, brothers Robert (Marge) Drumm of Detour, Willard “Bill” (Robin) Drumm of Battle Creek and Lenard (Mary) Drumm of Huntington, Ind., 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Donald Klostermeier passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, June 7, 2010 at Ebeid Hospice of Flower Hospital. Donald was born Dec. 3, 1940 to Irving and Violet (Geiser) Klostermeier in Monclova Township. Don worked as a machine operator at GM-Hydromatic for 35 years until retiring in 1996. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and loved spending time with his family. Don loved the Lord. He worshipped and served at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hillsdale for the last 12 years and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Toledo for the previous 24 years. Mourning Don’s passing are his wife, Janet; children, Kurt (Michelle) Klostermeier, Kimerly (Phillip) Przybylski, Karen (Erik) Jensen and Scott (Jenifer)Brown. Also surviving are his 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and sisters, Corene (Don) Druschel and Janice Rudnicki. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry Richard Brown, Jr.; brother, Jerry Klostermeier and sisters, Garnette Chapman and Irvine Bensen. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Thursday in the Urbanski Funeral Home, 5055 Secor Road, (North of Laskey). Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Don’s family will be receiving friends beginning at 10 a.m. Monday in Trinity Lutheran Church, Hillsdale, where a Memorial Service will take place at 11 a.m. Contributions may be directed to Promedica Ebeid Hospice or Trinity Lutheran Church, Hillsdale.

Dorothy E. Traxler, 89, of Reading, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2010, at home. She was born Sept. 11, 1920, in Mecosta County, the daughter of Ellsworth and Winifred (Yarrington) Rigelman. Dorothy was a devoted homemaker and had also worked at Wagner Industries. She participated in the Neighborhood Watch group and was an assistant Cub Scout Den Mother. She also enjoyed reading her Bible. Survivors include five daughters, Jacqueline (Stanley) Champion, Reading, Sandra (Minion) Johns, Reading, Marilyn Adams, Camden, Pamela (Jim) Bowers, Jonesville and Penny (Larry) Bump Hillsdale; one son, Ronald (Penny) Traxler, Reading; one brother, Ellsworth (Evelyn) Rigelman, Olivet; one sister-in-law, Margaret Rigelman, Montgomery; 15 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother (Ralph), and one daughter (Sharon Lange). Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the George White Funeral Home, Reading, with Travis Traxler officiating. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hillsdale County or the Hillsdale Community Health Center.

He had worked as a system supervisor at Clinton Township Water Department, retiring in 1985. Bob was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Mount Clemens. Bob served in the United States Army during World War II in the Rhineland. Mr. Schwinke is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; and three children, Suzanne Smith, Kathy (Joe) Ray and Richard (Tammy) Schwinke; and his sister, Marjorie Russ. Six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Bob was predeceased by his twin brother, Raymond Schwinke. A funeral will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at 11 a.m. in Zion United Church of Christ, 68 New Street, Mount Clemens with the Reverend Scott Davis officiating. Robert Peter West, age 77, formerly of Portage Lake in Mendon Township, passed away Monday, June 7, 2010, at his home in Sturgis. He was born Dec. 17, 1932, in Oak Park, Ill., a son of Peter Jacob and Ruth Maude (Larson) West. Robert graduated from Austin High School in Chicago. He attended the University of Dubuque in Dubuque, Iowa, where he met his wife, Lorraine Prior Salmon. They were later married on Aug. 28, 1952. in Dundee, Ill. Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne, earning the rank of sergeant. He worked in retail most of his life and was owner-operator of Gambles Hardware Store in Sturgis and WestMotor Home Leasing. After retirement, he enjoyed working as a security guard and spending time at the lake with his dog, Elf. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Three Rivers, where he was on the vestry. Surviving are his wife, Lorraine; three daughters, Vivian Hope (Michael) Prapuolenis of Wheaton, Ill., Julianne “Julie” Faith (Daniel) Cottin of Sturgis and Linda Love (Thomas) Cottin of Lawrence, Kan.; nine grandchildren, Jonathan and Jasmine Prapuolenis, Dan, Katie and Angela Cottin, Cole (fiancé Dan Phelps), Joe, Mick and Tommy Cottin; a brother, Henry (Georgia) West of Lake Forest, Ill.; a sister, Tomi Miner of Aurora, Ill.; and a cousin, Virginia Cump of Crystal Lake, Ill. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A funeral celebrating the life of Robert P. West will be held at 11 a.m. June 19 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 321 N. Main St., Three Rivers. The family suggests memorial donations be directed to the American Diabetes Association or Trinity Episcopal Church. He was born on Aug. 8, 1919, (on the gooseneck of Bean Creek) in Evansport, Ohio, the son of Jay and Florence (Replogle) Carpenter. Bill gave his heart to the Lord at the age of 13 and was baptized into the Pleasant Ridge Dunkard Brethren Church. On Aug. 8, 1942, in Montpelier, Ohio, he married Larena M. Pike and they were blessed with eight children. She preceded him in death on April 5, 2008. Bill was called to the ministry in 1941, and ordained to the eldership in 1970. He worked for 16 years at Comfort Tile Mill in Tecumseh and Smith Douglas Fertilizer Company in Riga for 17 years. Bill also enjoyed farming for a number of years. He lovingly cared for his wife of 65 years even through the tough times (especially after she developed Alzhiemer’s) which was a constant reminder to his children of what true love really is. Bill is survived by four daughters, Carolyn Carpenter of Dallas Center, Iowa, Joan (Arthur) Wheeler of Canandaigua, Janice (Michael) Snedeker of Jackson and Florence “Jean” (James) Karabinus of Swanton, Ohio; four sons, Robert (Clarice) Carpenter of Peru, Ind., Ronold (Cynthia) Carpenter of Hudson, Richard Carpenter of Canandaigua and Denzel (Pamela) Carpenter of Morenci; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, Larena, Bill was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, one in childhood and Genevieve Younglove; and three brothers, Irvin, John and David Carpenter. Funeral service will be on Thursday, June 17, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the West Fulton Dunkard Brethren Church (west of Wauseon on Alternate 20) with Brother Fred Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at the Smith Cemetery north of Pettisville, Ohio. There will be a visitation on Wednesday from 2 until 8 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci. Olmstead died peacefully Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, after a short illness.Karl Herbert Olmstead was born Aug. 17, 1925 in Amboy Township, to Arno and Phebe Olmstead.  On Nov. 18, 1944, he married Mary Lou Carter, in Hillsdale, and she survives.   Karl and Mary Lou had four sons: Karl Arno, Kenneth Wayne, Bradley Dale, and Douglas Duane. He spent his entire life in the Frontier area, except while serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a volunteer fireman with the Woodbridge Township Fire Department for many years. He loved hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He loved his family very much. Karl spent most of his working years at the Chevrolet dealership in Hillsdale, retiring in 1990, after 35 years.   Karl is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Gale Olmstead of Frontier and Leo (Norma) Olmstead of Florida; one sister, Edna Piriczky of Hillsdale; one son, Karl Arno and one great-grandson, Austin Curry.   Karl is survived by three sons, Kenny (Susan) Olmstead of Frontier, Brad (Donna) Olmstead of Hillsdale, and Doug (Patty) Olmstead of Stryker, Ohio. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.   Visitation for Karl H. Olmstead will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the George White Funeral Home, Reading. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Alan Fenstermaker officiating. Interment will follow in the Frontier Cemetery. Memorials in the name of Karl H. Olmstead are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
