He worked as an engineer with small manufacturing companies in the central Michigan area. Dave enjoyed fishing in Lake Mecosta, was an avid reader and loved "lively" discussions of current events. He was rarely separated from his "best friend" Spike the hound. JoAnn Jane Pringle-Butler Bradenton, FL JoAnn Jane Pringle-Butler, 76, was called home to live with the Lord in the Kingdom of Heaven on May 16, 2010. JoAnn was one of nine children born to parents Inez (St. Claire) and I.O. Pringle on August 24, 1933 in Lansing, Michigan who preceded her in death. She relocated to Bradenton, Florida in 1981 where she worked at Manatee Memorial Hospital for twelve years and later retired from Manatee County Parks & Recreation. Throughout her life, her fun-loving, youthful spirit reached out and touched people of all ages, particularly the young at heart. Known to most as "Mom" or "Mrs. B," she was a loving mother, daughter, sister, wife, and trusted friend. She was a kind, gentle lady and will be truly missed, but will live on in our hearts forever. Survivors include her son, Jeff (April) Butler in Michigan; daughters, Teresa Butler, Penny (Al) Wortham, Pamela Butler in Florida; brother, Larry Pringle; sisters, Elaine (Leonard) Burns, Linda (Julian) Van Den Abeele; grandchildren, Lisa (Shawn) Cyrocki, Jeffrey, Tina (Nick Montry), and Tammy Butler; and seven great-grandchildren, Ryan, Alyssa, Savannah, Nick, Nathan, Dylan, and Hannah. Mabel Marie Gamblin Mabel Marie Gamblin (Sunde), age 93, of Warren passed away June 18, 2010, at home. She was the beloved wife of the late Oral Gamblin. Loving mother of daughters Alice Triglia (Nick), Karen Lowry (Fred), and Sharon Salisbury (Bob). She was the beloved grandmother of 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Margo J. Burroughs, 77, of LaGrange, Ind., died Friday, June 18, 2010, at Parkview LaGrange Hospital in LaGrange. A lifetime LaGrange County resident, Mrs. Burroughs graduated with the class of 1951 from LaGrange High School. She was a homemaker and worked for 24 years at Duo-Therm/Dometic in LaGrange. She was a member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church and Sylvan Chapter #251 Order of Eastern Star, both in LaGrange. Mrs. Burroughs was born Jan. 29, 1933, in Sturgis, to Leon R. and Merna (Ridley) Paulus. On April 5, 1953, she married Robert G. Burroughs Jr. in LaGrange. He survives in LaGrange. Marjorie Darbon Haslett Born November 21, 1921 to the Late Orvil and Flo Lawrence; Marjorie Marion Darbon died June 10, 2010 at the age of 88. She grew up in Grand Ledge, Michigan. During WWII she worked as "Rosie the Riveter" at the Diamond REO factory in Lansing. After the war, she worked at Knapps and Jacobsons. Marjorie took great pride in her home; inside and out. She also loved spending time with family and friends on Drummond Island. There were countless days spent fishing or exploring the island and most evenings ended with a campfire. Rain or shine, there was always laughter at the Darbon camp! Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband Neil M. Darbon; and sisters Edie Lawrence and Bonnie Webb. Charles W. Marvin, 78, of Hillsdale, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2010, at the McGuire Skilled Nursing Facility, Hillsdale. He was born Aug. 14, 1931, in Pittsford, to Earl and Beulah (Hess) Marvin. He was a part-time farmer and retired from DCA in Hillsdale after 25 years of employment. Charles had worked with the Hillsdale County 4-H and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding and working on motorcycles. He loved the land and his family. On July 23, 1951, he married Florence Baughman and she survives. Also surviving are daughters, Marcia (Kenneth) Ledyard and Bonnie Starr, both of Montpelier, Ohio; son, Donald (Kathleen) Marvin, Camden; sisters, Shirley (Richard) Kelly, Kendallville, Ind. and Joan Chamberlain, Girard; brothers, Louis (Jenny) Marvin, Quincy and Max (Mary) Marvin, Tiffin, Ohio; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was born Feb. 7, 1928, in Adrian, the son of Martin A. and Clare (Newcomer) Ost. He married Esther Baker in Manchester, on Sept. 22, 1948, and she survives. Don retired from the maintenance department of Hillsdale College in 1988, after 10 years of service and he previously owned and operated Don’s Garage in Pittsford for over 30 years. He graduated from Addison High School Class of 1945, served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and enjoyed woodworking. Surviving Don besides his wife, Esther, are one daughter, Kay (Tom) Sharp of Pittsford; one son, David Ost of Pioneer, Ohio; four grandchildren, Michelle (Bruce) Sharp of Hillsdale, Jennifer (Louie) Lamoth of Mosherville, Jason Sharp of Pittsford and Brian and (Danielle) Sharp of Ransom; four great-great-grandchildren, Kimberly, Wyatt, Carter and Ellie. Dorothy was a devoted homemaker and had also worked at Wagner Industries. She participated in the Neighborhood Watch group and was an assistant Cub Scout Den Mother. She also enjoyed reading her Bible. Jack L. Barker April 5, 1937 — June 16, 2010 Jack Lloyd Barker, 73, an attorney in Hillsdale, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, in Kalamazoo, from complications due to a stroke. Jack was born on April 5, 1937, in Compton, Ky, the son of Averile (Horton) Barker and William Harold Barker. He was married on March 23, 1963 to CarolAnn Coppler. She preceded him in death. Jack graduated in 1954 from Colon High School in Colon. He served in the U.S. Army, from 1959 to 1961 and entered Hillsdale College in the fall of 1961. He met his wife CarolAnn while at Hillsdale College (Class of 1963) and graduated in 1965. He attended the Law School of Wayne State University, and was a graduate of the class of 1971. After graduating from Hillsdale College, Jack worked at Ford Motor from 1965 until 1968, when he entered law school. Upon graduation from law school in 1971 he worked as head of the Trust Department for Manufacturer’s Bank in Detroit until he and CarolAnn moved to Hillsdale in 1973. He went into law practice with Emil Fry and became a very active member of the Hillsdale community. Jack had planned to retire from the practice of law, and tried his last case on Wednesday, June 9, 2010. Jack was a member of the Rotary Club, the Elks Club, Hillsdale Golf & Country Club, the Michigan Bar Association and Hillsdale County Bar Association. He was a board member of the Hillsdale Community Health Center and a member of the Hillsdale County Chamber of Commerce. He was a former member of the Hillsdale City Council. A very avid golfer, Jack took numerous golf trips every year with his friends. Jack was a huge booster and supporter of his alma mater, Hillsdale College. He was a member of the Hillsdale College Alumni Board for over 25 years; received the Alumni Board Recognition award in 1997; was the recipient of the Charger Club Award in 1975 and was a member of the Hillsdale College President’s Club. Jack is survived by his daughter, Shawn-Laree de St. Aubin of Chicago, Ill.; four brothers, Adrian (Helen) of Hoyt Lakes, Minn.; Raymond Gerald (Ruth) of Winter Haven, Fla.; Richard (Dorothy) of Titusville, Fla,; and Bill (Ann) of Kodiak, Alaska, and his companion, Carol Ringenberg. Memorial services for Jack Barker will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the George Roche Sports Center, Hillsdale College. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister (Dorothy), and one brother (Dale). A Mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Hillsdale, with Father Thomas Butler officiating. Interment will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery. Norman Theodore Drumm, 82, of Coldwater and lifelong resident of Branch County, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2010, at home. He was born Nov. 11, 1927 in Concord to Clarence and Helen (Winchell) Drumm and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952 – 1954. Norman was a farmer for most of his life and also worked at Maple Villa Farms in Quincy for 30 years, retiring in 1990. He was a past member of the Merry Mixers Square Dance Club, an avid fisherman, and loved the outdoors. On April 17, 1955, he married Carol Elaine Wonders and she preceded him in death in 1997. Also surviving are his children, Margaret (Mike) Michael of Montgomery, Larry (Ann) Drumm of Quincy, Susan (Mike) Martin of Quincy and Norman (Shelby) Drumm of Calera, Ala.; sisters, Stella (Fred) Trujello of Hillsdale, Ruth Harris of Tampa, Fla. and Clara Keck of Litchfield; brothers, Robert (Marge) Drumm of Detour, Willard “Bill” (Robin) Drumm of Battle Creek and Lenard (Mary) Drumm of Huntington, Ind.; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother (Kenneth); two sisters, (Mildred and Joyce). Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the George White Funeral Home, Quincy, with the Rev. Clyde Wonders officiating. Interment will follow in Lester Cemetery, Algansee Township. Olga Frances Kane Lansing Formerly of Algonac, MI Olga Frances Gardner Kane, age 88, died peacefully in her sleep early Sunday morning, June 20, 2010. Frances was born April 25, 1922 in Detroit, and grew up in Port Huron, Michigan. She was a licensed practical nurse and contributed to America's WWII war effort working in a defense plant near Detroit. Frances married John Cotter Kane of Lansing in 1943, and they lived in Algonac prior to moving to Lansing, Michigan. Those who knew her will remember her spirit, her affection, the traditions she established for family and friends, and her wonderful cooking! We remember early days in Algonac, vacations in Port Huron, happy days with many family members in Lansing, and after John's death, her enjoyment living at the Marquette in East Lansing. The family wishes to express their gratitude for her care at Heartland HCC in Ionia and Ingham County Medical Care Facility in Okemos. She was a devoted mother and wife who will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband John; her sister, Mrs. Stephanie Richards; and her brother John Postalka. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Anne Dubois, of Agoura, California; four daughters, Christine, of Atlanta, Georgia, Mary of DeWitt and Atlanta, Constance Witherspoon, of DeWitt, and Patricia, of Haslett; two grandsons, John Witherspoon and his wife Melissa of Kennesaw, Georgia, and Patrick Witherspoon of San Diego, California; brother-in-law Vito Lilla and sister-in-law Frances Francis, both of Lansing, and sister-in-law Jeanette Postalka of Marine City, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Raymond L. Ebert Arcadia Age 81, died Friday, June 18, 2010 at his home. He was born at his family home on March 13, 1929 in Arcadia the son of Arthur R. and Mary Ellen (Mason) Ebert. Ray graduated from Frankfort High School -Class of 48'. He went on to serve our country in the U.S. Marine Corps as a sergeant radio electrical aircraft repairman and was honorably discharged. After the service he attended and graduated from Ferris Institute in 1958. Ray married Carolyn Neumann on Aug 22, 1959 in Lansing at the Christ Lutheran Church. In 1963 they moved to St. Johns where he taught 7-8 grade science. Retiring in 1991 and moved to Arcadia where they owned and operated a bed and breakfast. Ray was active in Hospice, Lions and other charities. Survived by his children, Lisa Ebert of Waterford and David (Una) Ebert; granddaughters, Michala and Madeline of Rose Bush, MI. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn in 2003 and brother Robert in 1974 Visitation will be Wednesday June 23 from 2-4 and 6-8p.m. at the Jowett Family Funeral Homes in Benzonia. Richard H. (Dick) Osbon Jr., age 76, of Colon, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at Community Health Center of Branch County.  Dick was born Oct. 13, 1933, in Sturgis, a son of the late Richard H. and Dorotha D. (Slagle) Osbon Sr.  Dick had spent all of his life in the St Joseph County area except for the time he spent in the Military.  He graduated from Sturgis High School.  Dick served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 20 years retiring in 1972.He had served during the Korean and Vietnam wars and had received among other honors two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.  He was an active member of the Colon American Legion Post #454 where he had served as commander and was a member of the Colon Masonic Lodge #73 where he had served as Grand Master. He enjoyed fishing and playing pinochle.  He is survived by two daughters, Barb Osbon of Orion, Mich., and Patty (Jim) Miller of Colon; one granddaughter, Carly Miller of Colon; two sisters, Jean (Ray) Rynberg of Cedar Springs, and Roberta Drake of Colon; a brother, Delmar (Kathy) Gieber of Three Rivers; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by one brother, Sheridan Osbon in 1980.  There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place.  A memorial service celebrating the life of Dick Osbon will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon with, Mr. David J. Ronald A. Gingerich, 63, of Mendon, died Saturday, June 12, 2010, at his home. His death was unexpected and due to natural causes. He was born April 12, 1947, in Washington, Iowa, to Chester and Barbara (Kauffman) Gingerich. He was self-employed in sales with R.T.W. RV Supply. Ronald was a talented musician, playing with the Windy River Band. He was an Army veteran and loved to hunt and fish. Survivors include three brothers, Ken (Leona) Gingerich of Albuquerque, N.M., Larry (Fran) Gingerich of Middlebury, Ind., Jim (Cindy) Gingerich of Shipshewana, Ind., and a special friend, Susie Marino of LaGrange, Ind. He was preceded in death by both parents. Ruth Agnes (Chanel) Freitag Dimondale Formerly of Okemos, born February 11, 1914 to Robert and Bertha Harton, Ruth A. Freitag mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on June 19, 2010. She was a graduate of Lansing Eastern High School. She was a member of the Christian Science Church in Boston, MA and a charter member of the Second Church of Christ Scientist in Lansing. While living in Okemos, she was an active member of the Okemos Garden Club, Friends of the Library, and Brook Hollow Country Club in Williamston, MI. Her parents, husband, Otto (Bob) Freitag and first husband, D. Kenneth Chanel, preceded her in death. Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Kathy Chanel of DeWitt; two granddaughters, Sheri (Matt) Jordan of Las Vegas, NV and Pam (Darrell) Hoeve of Lansing; step-daughter, Linda Scott; two great-grandsons, Chris (Marina) Jordan; Matt Jordan; great-granddaughter, Lyndsey Chanel; great, great-grandson, Chris; sister-in-law, Earlene Chanel of Essexville, MI; nieces, Beth and Jill; and nephew, Rick. There will be a private family service later. Silas A. Knowles, age 80 years, of Manitou Beach passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at Provincial House in Adrian. He was born on July 31, 1929, in Hudson, the son of Nathan and Gladys (Ball) Knowles. Silas graduated from Addison High School in 1947 and entered the agriculture program at MSU until he was drafted. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Silas was a lifelong dairy farmer, 4-H Sheep Leader, lifetime member of the Farm Bureau and served on the Rollin Township Board of Review. Silas loved music, especially playing the harmonica, and he enjoyed the Addison Senior Center. Silas is survived by three children, Janice (Robert) Million of Manitou Beach, Linda (Leonard) Weinlander of Palmyra and David (Jane) Knowles of Clayton; two grandchildren, Natalie and Noah Knowles; one brother, Philip (Luann) Knowles of Texas; and Anita (Vernon Briggs) Schultz of Manitou Beach; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services for Silas will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Hudson with the Rev. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1987. She had worked for Michigan Gas Utilities in customer service for many years, retiring in 1984. Theresa was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, where she supported many special projects within the church and was a side door greeter for Saturday night mass. After retirement from Michigan Gas, Theresa volunteered for the Maple Lawn Auxiliary, the Food Pantry, Hoff’s Vegetable Market, the Young at Heart Group and the Coldwater Area Senior Citizens. Theresa is survived by three sons: Martin (Debbie) Tate, Jr. of Coldwater, Charles (Leslie) Tate of Bridgman and Andrew (Gloria) Tate of Sturgis, seven grandchildren, seven great-granddaughters and a brother, Thomas Riviello, of Philadelphia. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, brother Gabriel and sister Domonica.
