Bernard L. Meyers, age 79, of Cheboygan, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Cheboygan Memorial Hospital. He was born April 25, 1931 in Cheboygan to August and Emma (Knaffle) Meyers. On November 15, 1960 in Cheboygan, Bernard married Catherine Hudson. Bernard served his country honorably with the United States Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He worked for Cheboygan Manufacturing Company and retired as a foreman after more than 25 years of service. He was a member of the Cheboygan Eagles and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and small engine repair. Survivors include two children, Linda K. Meyers and David (Ronda) Meyers; and two grandchildren, Kari M. Meyers and Ryan D. Meyers and his ex-wife, Catherine Russell, all of Cheboygan. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Elmer and Jerry. As per Bernard’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time. Memorial contributions in Bernard’s name may be directed to the American Cancer Society. Christopher Fetters St. Johns Christopher Fetters, 55, St. Johns, MI, died June 5, 2010 in Lansing Sparrow Hospital following six years of cancer treatment. The son of Richard and Dorothy Fetters of Lady's Island, SC, he was born November 12, 1954 in South Bend, IN. Most of his life was spent in East Lansing, MI where he attended St. Thomas Aquinas School, East Lansing High School and Lansing Community College. An accomplished artist, he was a graphic design employee of Michigan State University before his illness. Chris is survived by his wife, Barbara of St. Johns, MI; brothers, Peter of Wyandotte, MI, John of Tucson, AZ, Paul (Mary Beth) of Falls Church, VA, Joseph (Gilda) of Indianapolis, IN, Matthew (Laura) of Bethesda, MD; and nieces, Lindsay (Brian) Dieckman, Casey Fetters and Hannah Fetters as well as one grand-niece, Kendall Dieckman. His brothers and friends joined in a recent memorial tribute for Chris in East Lansing and the entombment will be later in the year when the family will be together in South Carolina.

Cynthia E. Lewis Grand Ledge Cynthia E. Lewis, 75, passed away June 28, 2010 at Sparrow Hospital. She was born in Lansing, MI on July 24, 1934 to the late James A. McLeod and Marion E. (Grimes) McLeod. Cynthia graduated from Grand Ledge High School in 1951. She worked for the State of Michigan in the Governor's Office under both Governors Milliken and Blanchard. She enjoyed traveling and volunteering at the McCree House. She married Sedric Lewis in 1968 and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by brothers, George and Nelson McLeod. Survivors include her two sisters, Mary Joanne Clark and Natalie Jane Dobat; brother, James S. McLeod (Maureen); and sisters-in-law, Marlene McLeod and Barbara Lewis; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Eaton County Medical Care Facility or McCree House. The family is being served by the Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge.

In addition to his wife Janet of Monroe and parents Robert and Katherine of Adrian, David is survived by five daughters, Rebecca Hunter of Temperance, Kaycee Raines of Toledo, Kelly (Kyle) Kidder of Jupiter, Florida, Jade Cutshall of Tennessee and Jessica Souviron of Tennessee; a brother, Mike (Sharon) DeGroot of Britton; and seven grandchildren: Audre Lynn Hunter, Conner Witfoth, Brooke Witfoth, Sage Raines, Nolan Leo Kidder, Makenzi Foolks and Ashton Cutshall. Dorthelda Sue Eichorn, age 70, of Sturgis, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010, at home. She was born Aug. 12, 1939, in Indianapolis, a daughter of the late Harvey and Josephine (Troyer) Schwartz. Dorthelda has been a resident of Sturgis the past 50 years and on Sept. 1, 1956 in Middlebury, Ind., she married Lewis Carl Eichorn Sr.  He preceded her in death March 10, 2000.  She was a homemaker and was involved with the Girl Scouts and helped her husband with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and earned the Silver Beaver Award.  She enjoyed singing in the church choir and singing in nursing homes, other churches, prisons, and the Dwight Alexander Band. Surviving are two daughters, Debra (Robert) Kinsey and Tamara Eichorn, both of Sturgis; 3 sons, Lewis Carl Eichorn Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., Jeffrey D. (Dorothy) Eichorn and Larry L. (Jill) Eichorn, both of Sturgis; three grandchildren, Lewis Carl Fuhrmann-Eichorn III, Jeffrey Adam Carl Eichorn, and Nichole Elizabeth Marie Eichorn; a great-granddaughter, Rebeka Ray-Linn Eichorn; and two step-grandchildren, Cameron Hacker and Eli Hacker; three brothers, Steve Bullard of Howe, Ind., Danny Bullard of Sturgis, and Herbert Michael Bullard of N. Vernon, Ind.; and three sisters, Cindy Ward, Mary Schaefer, and Doris Jean Koennkramer, all of Greensburg, Ind.    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son, Darryl Lee; two sisters, Betty Kopp and Jackie Bullard; and one brother, Joe Bullard.  The family will receive friends and relatives from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, and 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hackman Family Funeral Home - Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Marie Sheets, of Coldwater, and formerly of Saint Marys, a lady of great character, passed away at 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 24, 2010 after a short illness at home with her children by her side. Marie was born June 2, 1930, in Proctorville, Ohio, to James and Georgia (Singer) Ellis. Marie worked for over 20 years at Huffy Bicycles in Celina, Ohio, before retiring in 1990. She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary 6772, Spencerville, Ohio, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary 323 of St. Mary’s, Ohio and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Auxiliary 2417 in Buckhead Ridge, Fla. She was an avid Nascar fan and enjoyed the casinos. She was a graduate of the Rome Hime School in Proctorville and attended business college in Huntington, W.Va. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 32 years, Loy Sheets. She was also preceded in death by four sisters: Evelyn Burcham, Gertrude Conely, Louise Clancy and Violet Bachman and brother James Ellis. Survivors include her children Robert (Zula) White of San Angela, Texas, Linda White Clements of Coldwater and Kim (Maria) White of Brandon, Fla. She is also survived by her sister Joann Ellis of Huntington, W.Va., six grandchildren, nephew Wally (Kaye) Jones of South Charleston, W.Va. and like-a-son Gary Mohre of Blakesley, Ohio. In addition to family members, Marie was preceded in death by a month by her best buddy, her dear poodle Choco. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, Ohio with Reverend John G. Medaugh officiating. Burial will follow in the Spencerville Cemetery. He has been a resident of Branch county since 1957, moving from Sturgis. Gene was self employed, hauling milk for the Pet Milk Company in Angola, Ind., for 26 years, retiring in 1990. Following his retirement he worked in construction with the local Amish and at the Wal-Mart Garden Center in Coldwater. He also continued to run his auctioneering service, which he very much enjoyed. Gene’s family was the most important thing in his life. He enjoyed going on family trips, camping and playing cards. He loved people and will be missed by all who knew him. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Ida Smith; sons, Larry (Natalie) Smith and Earl (Cathy) Smith, both of Coldwater, Scottie (Melissa) Smith of Bronson; daughters, Arlene (Bob) Weddle of Bronson and Connie (Chuck) Anthony of Coldwater; brother Fred (Charlene) Smith Jr. of Bronson; sisters, Gela Matthews and Winifred Wells, both of Florida and Minnie May Nolen of Sturgis; 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Guy A. Bullock, 85, of Three Rivers, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010, at his home. He was born May 22, 1925, in Schoolcraft, a son of Arthur and Arvilla (Heckelman) Bullock. On Feb. 16, 1948, he married Betty Smith in Elkhart, Ind. Guy was a full-time farmer in the Constantine and Three Rivers area for many years. He was the last dairy farmer in Constantine Township, operating until 2005, when he was diagnosed with lymphoma. Guy enjoyed being a judge in tractor-pulling contests at fairs and at plowing contests. Guy also served as a St. Joseph County 4-H leader. He truly loved his family, and his life as a farmer, earning numerous awards for his efforts. Surviving are his wife Betty Bullock, Three Rivers; daughters Christine (Carl) Carlisle of White Pigeon and Ellen (Al) Omo of Constantine; sons Garth (Lori) Bullock of Constantine and Norman (Donna) Bullock of Constantine; sister Eva Ann Snyder; 11 grandchildren, Jamie Wine, Bryan (Marielle) Bullock, Benjamin Bullock, David Omo, Amanda and Brandon Hemminway, Jenni Carlisle, Jeff (Amanda) Carlisle, Kori, Kyle and Trent Bullock; nine great-grandchildren, Noah, Cynthia and Mason Carlisle, Abbey and Alex Carlisle, Luke and Isabell Bullock, and Jasmine and Cody Wine. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting, puzzles and karaoke music. Irene is survived by three children, Brian Huckstep (Tisha) of Oak Park, Ill., Lee Divelbiss of Coldwater and Janet Divelbiss of Lansing; 11 grandchildren; five sisters, Judith Gross of Canonsburg, Pa., Norma Jean Dice of New Kensington, Pa., Donna Chippeaux of Tampa, Fla., Rose Hughes of Colon and Shirley Dash of Mishawaka, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews. On Nov. 28, 1992, she was united in marriage to Stephen C. Elliott, at St. Philip Catholic Church. He survives. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and participated in the church choir. She enjoyed reading, writing, lighthouses, traveling to northern Michigan, camping, photography, watching her daughter “Madi” play soccer, was an avid fan of the Red Wings, MSU and Tigers, and loved spending time with her family. Surviving is a daughter, Madison Anne; her parents, Epifanio Florante, M.D., and Victoria V. Florante, M.D.; a sister, Karenn (Raymond) Vernagus of Lansing; a sister-in-law, Melissa (Joseph) Audette of Climax; several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by several grandparents, aunts and uncles. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home, with a Rosary at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church,  with the Rev. Kevin Covert officiating. Lillie M. Ayers, age 93, of Adrian passed away Thursday, June 24, 2010, at Lenawee Medical Care Facility. Lillie was born Sept. 24, 1916, to Paul Elijah and Nellie (Baty) Lay in Atwood, Ala. She married J. Hubert Chamblee on May 9, 1934, in Ala. He preceded her in death Dec. 22, 1943. She later married Elmer Ayers on July 16, 1948. He died Jan. 30, 1983. Lillie was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two grandsons and two daughters.   Survivors include a daughter, Jean Humphries of Adrian; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Lucille Gordon of Tennessee; and her nieces and caregivers, Mary Wiley, Cindy Maniscalco and Linda File. Lillie was a seamstress at Maurice’s for 22 years. In her retirement, she enjoyed doing alterations from her home. She was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Adrian. The funeral service for Lillie will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2010, at Wagley Funeral Home with Pastor Darrell Hyder officiating. Burial will follow at Palmyra Cemetery. Mary Elizabeth Olney died Sept. 6, 2009, in Orlando, Fla. She was born Oct. 26, 1921, in Detroit, a daughter of Joseph W. and Katherine (Kennedy) Pattison. Lt. William H. Olney, dressed in his officer’s Naval uniform, stepped off the elevator of the Aetna Building in Detroit and met the prettiest girl he had ever seen. They married in 1943. The war years were spent at air bases, where he was a pilot and flight instructor. After the war, they moved to Leonidas, where they lived and raised their children. Together they owned and operated Galesburg Michigan Speedway and Hastings Raceway. Mary managed the business aspect of the speedways. Mary is survived by her children, Dr. Mary (Doug) Anderson of Leonidas, and Lynda Olney (Dave) Robertson and Lucey Olney of Orlando; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her brother, Allen R. Pattison of Port Austin. She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, William H. Olney Jr.; and her brother, Joseph Pattison. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Mendon Cemetery, with the Rev. Canon Meredith Hunt of St. John’s Episcopal Church officiating. Everyone attending laughed, as they understood the joke of being the bride and groom in the grade school play. Paul was an active citizen in his community, participating in many local activities. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 2, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Assumption Church in Bronson with Rev. Fr. Richard Fritz officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2010, from 2-8 p.m. with the Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Dutcher-Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson. Mary was born March 22, 1937 in Coldwater to Gerald and Pearl (Fredrickson) Brodt. She married Ralph C. Smoker on Oct. 25, 1958 in Coldwater. Mary was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. She adored her family and the time they spent together, especially her grandchildren. Mary is survived by her husband Ralph, her daughters Diana (Howard) Elliott of Orland, Deb (Tom) Losinski and Sherri (Tony) Barone, all of Bronson, her brother Glen (Alice) Brodt of Coldwater, his sister Anna Jane (Dick) Fate of Battle Creek and her grandchildren Jennifer, Jonathan and Brandon Losinski and Steven and Stephanie Barone. Robert Gaines Wilbar, age 66, of Adrian, formerly of Tecumseh, died Thursday, June 24, 2010, at Bixby Medical Center, Adrian. He was born on May 21, 1944, in Lake City, Tenn., the son of William and Gladys (Webb) Wilbar. He married Judy Pinter on April 6, 1968, in Tecumseh. Bob came to the Tecumseh area in 1951 from Lake City, Tenn. He was an avid runner on the track team for Tecumseh High School, attaining many medals while there. He was a member of the Berean Baptist Church, Adrian, was very dedicated to Christian Education, and enjoyed singing. Bob was a Veteran of the United States Army, then worked as a custodian for the Tecumseh Public Schools for more than 20 years and was a very successful salesperson for West Bend Cookware. He was a loving father who enjoyed bragging about his family, was a very kind and gentle man and will be missed by his family and all those who knew him. He is survived by one son, William (Susan) Wilbar of Adrian; two daughters, Jeannine (Frank) LaVoy of Tecumseh and Laura (Mark) Gilbert of Valparaiso, Ind.; one brother, James (Maria) Wilbar of Fullerton, Calif.; two sisters, Barbara (Melvin) Scheffler of Clinton, Mich., Liza Phairow of Shoreline, Wash.; and four grandchildren, Zach, Kendra, Alexis and Andrew. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Janice Wilbar-Machan and Julie Parrish. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 27, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of the Handler Funeral Homes, where funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 28. Pastor Doug Rogers of Berean Baptist Church, Adrian, will officiate. Visitation will also be at the funeral home from 1 p.m. on Monday until the time of services. Sister Anne Starcevich, formerly known as Sister George Marie Starcevich, died on June 25, 2010, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Mich. She was 96 years of age and in the 79th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation. Sister Anne was born in Chicago, Ill., to George and Mary (Bezan) Starcevich. Sister graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Adrian, Mich. She received a Bachelor of Philosophy Degree in History from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, Mich., and a Master of Education Degree from DePaul University in Chicago, Ill. Sister spent 59 years ministering in education in Delray, Detroit, Munising, Dearborn, Alpena, Utica, Owosso, Saginaw and Ann Arbor, Mich.; Toledo and Cincinnati, Ohio; Elmwood Park, Homewood, Riverdale and South Holland, Ill.; Albuquerque, N.M.; and Guayama, Puerto Rico. She was Principal at St. Lawrence School in Utica for six years, and one year at St. Francis of Assisi in Ann Arbor, both in Michigan. Sister was School Secretary for nine years at Queen of the Apostles in Riverdale, Ill. She was Librarian for five years at St. Elizabeth Seton High School, and Development Office Assistant for four years at Seton Academy, both in South Holland, Ill. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Mich., in 1997. Sister Anne is survived by three sisters, Georgianne Caputo of Norwalk, Ohio, Catherine Malone of South Holland, Ill., and Rosaline Starcevich of Alsip, Ill. Visitation is from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2010, in the Rose Room at the Dominican Life Center, followed by Vigil Prayer at 7 p.m. in St. Catherine Chapel. The Funeral Liturgy will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2010. Burial will be in the Congregation cemetery. She was born Sept. 10, 1919, in Medina Township, Lenawee County, to Lawrence and Lela (Cisco) Zimmerman. She lived in the Rollin area before moving to Adrian in 1977.   She was a graduate of Prattville High School and married Winfield “Bill” Austin on Feb. 24, 1938, at Bryan, Ohio. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1980. She was a member of the Rollin Baptist Church and attended the Trenton Hills United Brethren Church in Adrian. She also was a member of the Senior Center in Adrian.   Surviving are her daughter Joan (Richard) Lockwood of Montpelier, Ohio; her son Dean (Raquel) Austin of Apache Junction, Arizona; six grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Elden (Mary) Zimmerman of Montpelier, Ohio and her sisters, Thelma Munsell of Perrysburg, Ohio and Phyllis (Richard) McCloe of Brooklyn. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Mike, a grandson Lance Lockwood, a sister Lela Shinaberry and by her brothers, Lowell and Cisco Zimmerman. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2010, in the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Hudson with Pastor Keith Smith officiating. William H. Olney Jr. died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, in Orlando, Fla. Bill was born March 9, 1967, in Fort Pierce, Fla., a son of William H. and Mary Elizabeth (Pattison) Olney. He spent most of his childhood in Michigan. He was a graduate of Colon High School and the University of Central Florida. He graduated from Stetson Law School, St. Petersburg, Fla, in 1994 and was class president. Bill was from a medical family and spent his professional career defending physicians and hospitals. Shortly before his death, he became a partner in his Orlando law firm. Bill’s parents owned stock car race tracks, and Bill grew up with, and loved, automobile racing. He was a poet, a storyteller and he loved to laugh. Bill is survived by his sisters, Dr. Mary (Doug) Olney Anderson of Leonidas, Lynda (Dave) Robertson and Lucey Olney, both of Orlando; and by nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Mendon Cemetery with the Rev. Canon Meredith Hunt of St. John’s Episcopal Church officiating. Assistance was provided by the Eickhoff Funeral Home of Mendon.

William “Bill” Schuch, age 91, of Adrian passed away Friday, June 25, 2010, at his home under the loving care of his family. Bill was born Jan. 30, 1919, in Morenci, the son of Clarence and Louise (Marzolf) Schuch. During World War II, he served in the Army’s 888th Ordinance Division and was stationed in the CBI Theatre.   On Dec. 4, 1945, Bill married Gertrude E. Gilbert in Seward, Ohio. Gertrude, his wife of over 64 years survives.   Bill worked at Stubnitz Greene in Adrian for 37 years, retiring in 1979. Bill and Gertrude were well known in the community for their homemade peanut brittle, which they started making and selling in 1966. Bill was a faithful member of Jasper Bible Church. In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by three children: Calvin Schuch of Jackson; Gary (Shelly) Schuch of Brooklyn; and Susan (Mark) Vanderpool of Adrian; four grandchildren: Lisa (Kevin) Frey, Christopher Vanderpool, Gabriel (Rowena) Schuch and Nathan (Jennifer) Schuch; four great grandchildren: Gavin, Austin, Taylor and Jordyn; two sisters and one brother. He was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers. The funeral service for Bill will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at Jasper Bible Church with Rev. Bruce Jewett officiating. Burial will follow at Hunt Cemetery with military honors conducted by the VFW Annis Fint Post #1584. Visitation will be held at Wagley Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Condolences may be sent to www.wagleyfuneralhome.com.
