Agnes Marie Peek

Agnes Marie Peek Mason Agnes Marie Peek, age 93, passed away on April 21, 2010. She was born in Bunker Hill on September 27, 1916. She attended County Normal in Mason to become a teacher. Marie married William Peek of Mason in 1941. William and Marie were founding members of the St. James Catholic Church from its inception at the Ball-Dunn Funeral home until ground was broken at its present location. William and Marie had six children; Elizabeth (Tom) Heathman , Robert Peek, Mary (Wayne) Bullen, Bruce Peek, Susan (Gary) Griffin, and Kathleen (Darryl) Cornelius. When William died suddenly in 1961, Marie raised all six children with patience and wisdom. Marie taught school in the Mason Public School district until she retired in 1979. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, bridge and involvement in activities at church. She is missed by her grandchildren, Zachary Heathman, Jennifer Heathman, Beccy Stevenson, Miranda Darling, Andrea Alexander, Dane Bullen, Gary Griffin, Timothy Griffin and Alex Cornelius. Marie had two great grandchildren; Isabella and Claire Heathman. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes all donations to Marie's memory, be made to the Steele Book Room, Steele Elementary School, 531 Steele St., Mason, MI. The memorial funeral mass will be held on June 19, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 1010 S. Lansing, Mason. The family is being served by the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Mason. Angelo D. Leone Age 85, formerly of St. Clair Shores, MI went to be with our Lord on June 16, 2010. Angelo was born in Detroit in 1925, the second child and only son of Luciano and Vincenza (Virginia) Leone. On Sept 11, 1948, he married Mary Polizzi, his high school sweetheart. Mary died in 1980. Angelo is survived by his children Virginia, Rory, Mary Beth and Lucian and their spouses and 13 grandchildren. He was a devout Roman Catholic serving St. Joan of Arc parish all of his adult life. Visitation is Sunday, June 20 at A.H. Peters Funeral Home in Grosse Pointe from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be Monday, June 21, at St. Joan of Arc Parish in St. Clair Shores at 10:00 a.m.

Ardell L. Anderson, 96, of Adrian, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010, at Provincial House. Ardell was born Aug. 9, 1913, in Adrian, the only daughter and youngest child of August and Louise (Winkleman) Willnow. She graduated from Adrian High School with the Class of 1931. On Jan. 9, 1932, Ardell married Dale Anderson in Elkhart, Ind.  Ardell and Dale celebrated 60 years of marriage prior to his death in 1992. Ardell worked in the offices of several local companies, including Gerity, Stubnitz Greene and Dunbar Borton, where she retired. In her retirement years, Ardell remained active. An avid card player, Ardell played euchre at both the Adrian Senior Center and the Tecumseh Senior Center, and she was a member of the Over 40 Club.  She was also a member of the Women of the Moose. Ardell is survived by her daughter, Myrna Vogel, and her husband, Bill, of Adrian; three granddaughters, Cindy (Patrick) Jaeger of Laurel Park, N.C., and Stephanie Vogel and Keri (Chad) Johnson, both of Adrian; her great-granddaughter and joy of her life, Claire Johnson; and a special nephew, Rex Willnow. In addition to her parents and husband, Ardell was preceded in death by two brothers, Gordon and Wilbur Willnow. The funeral service for Ardell will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at Wagley Funeral Home with the Rev. Linda Farley officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Bernita Mary Fedewa

Bernita Mary Fedewa Pewamo Bernita Mary Fedewa, of Pewamo, passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2010. She is with her Lord. Bernita was born on a farm southeast of Pewamo in Clinton County on July 20, 1917, the daughter of Oscar M. and Dorthea "Dora" (Wohlshied) Cook and oldest of thirteen children. Bernita graduated from Pewamo High School in 1935, Clinton County Normal School of St. Johns in 1936 and Central Michigan University. She taught at the local rural schools for four years and later at St. John the Baptist School in Hubbardston from 1956 to 1963 and at Most Holy Trinity School in Fowler from 1963 to 1982. In retirement she taught piano lessons in her home for more than 25 years. In her spare time, Bernita enjoyed playing piano, bird watching, gardening and spiritual reading. She was a life member of St. Joseph Parish in Pewamo, choir member, director, and a member of the Altar Society. Bernita also belonged to the Mid-Michigan Audubon Society, serving as its president for a number of years. Bernita married Walter J. Fedewa, a Pewamo area farmer, on October 22, 1949 and he preceded her in death on August 18, 1988. Bernita is survived by her sons, John and Gerard, daughter-in-law, Liduina, and grandson, Orry, all of Pewamo; her sisters, Dorothy Golata of Lansing, Ella Thelen of Williamston, Marcia Cook of Ionia, and Jenny (Robert) Weber of Cincinnati, Ohio; and her brothers, James (Jean) Cook of Lansing, Donald (Barbara) Cook of Lansing, Roy (Dolores) Cook of Fenwick, and Leon (Jeanne) Cook of Lansing. Bernita was also the proud aunt of forty nine nieces and nephews. Bernita was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Bernita Schrauben Cook; son, Donald J. Fedewa; daughter-in-law, Lesley Daman Fedewa; Lesley's parents, Fred and the late Marguerite Daman; David Cook, her brother; sisters, Angela Coonrod, Isabelle Wilson, and Cay De Young; brothers-in-law, Joseph Coonrod, Donald Wilson, Jake De Young, Alvin Thelen, and John Golata. A Funeral Mass for Bernita will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo, Friday, June 18, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Charlon Mason officiating, burial at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church, Wednesday, and Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with rosaries Wednesday, 3 p.m., and 8 p.m., Thursday at 3 p.m., and a Vigil Service on Thursday at 8 p.m. Besides masses, the family suggest memorials be made to St. Joseph School Trust Fund Pewamo. Beverly Magness Dimondale Born November 19, 1926 in Niles, MI: died June 13, 2010 in Dimondale, MI. Surviving are a son, Bob Magness; daughter, Cheryl (Larry) Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Jacqueline, Krista and Jenna Magness and Zachariah Fitzgerald. Beverly played many roles in her life: mother, daughter, sister, friend, wife, and companion. She bowled on several leagues and liked golf and basketball. She was a good artist and was always reading a book. She enjoyed gardening and grew great tomatoes. She appreciated clothes and always dressed well. Bev loved music and was a really good dancer. She loved to sing any chance she got. She was a great listener and her laugh was delightful. She was a great mom and worked for Michigan National once her kids were grown. She also had a lot of fun memories with her sisters, friends and their families. She will be greatly missed. Instead of a memorial service, a donation is being made to Eaton Community Hospice (517-543-5310, 2675 S. Cochran, Charlotte, 48813,, ) and any other contributions are very much appreciated.

Bruce A. Dixon Grand Ledge Bruce A. Dixon, age 77, born July 27, 1932 in Eaton County, MI, passed away June 14, 2010 in Lansing, MI. He retired from the State of Michigan after 38 years of service; graduated from Grand Ledge High School, Class of 1950; was a Past Master and member of the Masonic Lodge #412; member of the Lansing Motorcycle Club, and also a 4H Leader. Bruce enjoyed collecting tractors and most of all loved his grandchildren and spending time with family. Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Beverly G. and their sons, David E. (Cindy) Dixon of Kinsley, MI and Jon A. (Linda) Dixon of Grant, MI; six grandchildren: Tom, Tim, Bruce, Scott, David Dixon, and Anna (Matt) Doyle, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Amanda (Schneeberger) Dixon; sister, Beatrice E. Slee; and brother, Kenneth Dixon. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 18, 2010 - 11:00 a.m. at the Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge, with Rev. Roy Atherton officiating. Daniel E. Smoker, 62, of Bronson, died Monday, June 14, 2010,  at his home. Daniel was born June 27, 1947, in Sturgis to Hewitt and Verna (Koscielny) Smoker. He married Bunnee Harper on April 27, 1968, in Bronson. He graduated from Bronson High School in 1965 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the U.S. Army. He worked for Douglas Autotech in Bronson as a truck driver since 1965. Mr. Smoker was a member of St. Mary of Assumption Church and a life member of the VFW in Orland. He enjoyed fishing and spending time on his family farm where he raised a variety of animals. Dan was an avid Notre Dame fan and enjoyed the time he spent with his family and grandchildren. Daniel is survived by his wife, Bunnee; his sons, Jamie and Jill Smoker of Bronson and Chad and Lori Smoker of Sturgis; his brother, Eugene Smoker of Colon; his sisters, Hattie (Robert) Stevens and Delphine Kibiloski, both of Bronson; sister-in-law, Roberta Smoker of Bronson; his grandchildren, Jenna, Jolie and Brayden Smoker; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents; his brothers, Ed and John Smoker; his sisters, Virginia (Gene) Palczynski and Sylvia Herman. Daniel James Barfield, 23, of Sturgis, died Thursday evening, June 17, 2010, in Howe, Ind., due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was born Aug. 29, 1986 in Sturgis, a son of James and Vickie (Hackett) Barfield. Daniel had resided in Sturgis his entire life and graduated from Sturgis High School with the class of 2005. He had been employed by Burr Oak Tool and Gauge in Sturgis since 2004. He enjoyed shooting at the St. Joseph County Conservation Club, bowling, scuba diving, fishing, golfing, tinkering with motorcycles and playing video games. He actively participated in paintball and Airsoft. Daniel truly loved time spent with his many friends and family. He is survived by his parents; two sisters, Kalyn (Justin) Day of LaGrange, Ind., and Mckenna Barfield of Sturgis; a grandmother, Retha Lancaster of Burr Oak; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clifford Hackett, James Richard Barfield and Jean Clark Barfield. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, LaDonna (Ladd) on Dec. 19, 2007 and earlier his parents Harold Edward and Martha, and his sister Gloria Shimer.   He is survived by his children: Mary (Clarke Anderson) of Okemos, Gary (Jackie) of Coldwater and Tim (Gail) of Houston, Texas; grandchildren David, Chris, and Amy Anderson of Okemos, Blair (Tony) Rogers of Summerville, S.C., Douglas and Jeffrey Werkman of Coldwater and Tim Werkman, Jr. of Houston, Texas, sisters Ruth Bliahu of Memphis, Tenn. and Ann Wilson of Elk Rapids; sisters-in-law, Roberta Didion and Ginger Ladd and brothers-in-law, Paul (Judy) Ladd of Fort Wayne, Ind. and Larry (Bette) Ladd of Nashville, Ind.   Harold (Lefty) graduated from South Side High School in 1943. He was very active in basketball, tennis and baseball through high school. He enlisted in the US Navy in Nov. 1943 and was in the V12 program at University of Michigan and the Institute of Technology of Chicago, Ill. until May 1946. He was a 1948 aeronautical engineering graduate of University of Michigan, where he was also the 15th man on the basketball team. He worked in the Design Center at International Harvester from 1948 until 1982 in Fort Wayne.   He and Donna permanently moved to their lake home in 1977, where they lived until 2000, followed by a home in Coldwater. He lived in Okemos for the last 16 months of his life. He was a lifelong member of Trinity English Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne.   A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on June 26, 2010 at Krauss Chapel, Trinity English Lutheran Church, 405 W. He was born the son of Glen and Ruth (Alberts) Isanhart on October 12, 1925 in Marion, Michigan. His wife Theola preceded him in death. He had moved to Clare from DeWitt in 2002. Harry was a self employed Farrier and had worked also as a Rodeo Clown. He was the owner and operator of the "On Golden Pond Farm" and loved wheeling and dealing as well as buying and selling livestock, particularly horses. He had served with the United States Marine Corps. during WWII and was a member of the Clare Moose Lodge. Harry is survived by his companion, Sally Murphy, two sons, Douglas Keith (Mary Jo) Isanhart of Conway, Arkansas and Tom Isanhart of Dewitt., Michigan, his brothers John Isanhart of Evart, Mi. and Irwin Isanhart of Zephyrhills, Florida. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 16, at 11 a.m. from the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home with graveside services at 2:30 p.m. at the Gunnisonville Cemetery near Dewitt. Harry will be remembered for his extraordinary career accomplishments, exhaustive professional service contributions at the local, state, and national levels, and the significant, long-term impact he had on the lives of citizens with disabilities, and those professionals who provide rehabilitation services over the past 35 years. Howard John Barrons Lansing Died June 16, 2010 at the age of 90. He was born in Calumet, Michigan on March 16, 1920 the son of Henry and Rose (Bussiere) Barrons. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the 8th Army Air Force. He was a graduate of Michigan Tech University in 1949 earning a B.S. degree in Metallurgical Engineering. Howard worked for the Michigan Department of Transportation for 34 years and retired in 1985. Howard married the love of his life Gertrude Nicholls on February 7, 1942, and she survives him. Also surviving are his six children, Gayle Barrons, Marcia (Steve) Maiville, Fr. Brian Barrons M. M., Carol (Dave) Schafer, Joan (Mike) Wood and Bruce (Jan) Barrons and 11 grandchildren; Kevin, Kelly and Michael Schafer, Emily and Thomas Wood, Morgan, Julie, Howard and Paul Barrons, Mark and Matthew Maiville. His brothers Walter and Norman (Ann), and his sister Adeline Macario survive Howard. Howard was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church and a former member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. He was a member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and served as president of the Lansing District Council for many years. He will always be remembered for his service to the poor. Ida Mae Anderson, 91, formerly of Allen and Fairfield, Ill., passed away Friday, June 18, 2010 at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility, Hillsdale.   She was born Aug. 8, 1918, in Elm River Twp, Wayne County, Ill., to Albert Joseph and Ethel V. (Markhan) Lambrich. In addition to being a homemaker, Ida had driven a taxi-cab and worked in area factories. She attended Allen Baptist Church, had been a member of the Northside Baptist Church in Fairfield, Ill. and taught Vacation Bible and Sunday Schools. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and Bible study. Survivors include daughter Eleanor (Walter) Coan of Allen, sister Viola Mitchell of Owensborough, Kent., brothers Wesley “Bud” (Betty) Lambrich in Johnstown, Pa., Carroll Lambrich of Fairfield, Ill. and Dean (Dorothy) Lambrich of Cisne, Ill., 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, four brothers, one son and one daughter in infancy, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, 7 p.m., at the George White Funeral Home, Reading, with Reverend Alan Fenstermaker officiating. Visitation is scheduled Monday from 4 p.m. until time of service. Interment will be on Tuesday, 2 p.m. (3 p.m. Mich. time) at the Old German Cemetery in Cisne, Ill.   Memorials are suggested to the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility.

Imogene Ruth Blanchard, age 88, of Sturgis, passed away Friday June 11, 2010, at Thurston Woods Care Center in Sturgis.   Imogene was born in White Pigeon, Mich., on June 27, 1921, the daughter of William Walter Messner and Mary Rebecca (Freed) Messner.   Imogene married Donald H. Blanchard on May 24, 1941.  They had two sons:  Donald R. Blanchard (Lydia) of Pine Lake, Mich., and James W. Blanchard (Beth Ann) of Rensselaer, Ind., who survive.   Imogene was the last surviving member of seven brothers and sisters.  She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, on Feb. 28, 1981; three brothers, Ora Messner, (Annabelle), Freed Messner (Betty), Ollie Messner (Leona), and three sisters, Fay Shemberger (Loyd), Ellen Todd (Frank), and Dorothy Hamilton (Ed); and one great-granddaughter, Amber Rain Hamilton. Surviving in addition to her sons are: a sister-in-law, Eleanor (Minor) Tubergen of Kalamazoo; two granddaughters, Emily Blanchard of Denver, Colo., and Jennifer Blanchard, of Waterford, Mich.; one grandson, Sean Blanchard of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and one great-grandson, Storm Hamilton of Waterford, Mich.; and special friend Ruth Wade.   Imogene worked 13 years in the White Pigeon School system.  She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in White Pigeon, a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, a past president of the Mintdale Ladies club, and a life member of the Eastern Star, The Maccabees, and Royal Neighbors clubs.   Imogene enjoyed baking and always had cookies, cakes and pies available for visitors.  She loved family gatherings, liked to travel, enjoyed trips to the casino, and entered many contests, always expecting to win.  She used her car as a second home, helping others with doctor appointments and some times just for fun. Visitation will be held at the Farrand Funeral Home, 300 N. Kalamazoo St. in White Pigeon, Tuesday June 14 from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday morning, June 15, at the Presbyterian Church in White Pigeon from 10-11 a.m., with services following at 11 a.m.   Memorials may be given to the St. Joseph County Commission on Aging, or the Presbyterian Church of White Pigeon.

Irene D. Foster Williamston Born February 18, 1914, the daughter of Edwin and Nellie (Parker) White in Detroit, Michigan. Irene D. Foster died June 12, 2010 at the age of 96. Irene worked within the Farm Recording Keeping Service of Michigan State University for 25 years and enjoyed traveling and baking. Irene and Larry enjoyed and had a second home over a forty year period at Houghton Lake. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; husband, Lawrence Calvin Foster; daughter, Shirley (Foster) Graham; son-in-law, Thomas O. Graham; grandsons, Larry and Jim Graham; and great-grandson, Chris Graham. He met his wife CarolAnn while at Hillsdale College (Class of 1963) and graduated in 1965. He attended the Law School of Wayne State University, and was a graduate of the class of 1971. Jack is survived by his daughter, Shawn-Laree de St. Aubin of Chicago; and his four brothers: Adrian (Helen) of Hoyt Lakes, Minn.; Raymond Gerald (Ruth) of Winter Haven, Fla.; Richard (Dorothy) of Titusville, Fla.; and Bill (Ann) of Kodiak, Ala., and his companion, Carol Ringenberg. He honorably served at the Empire Air Force Station from 1953-1955 and one year in the Air Force in Morocco, North Africa. After his time in the service, he married Rosela E. Stearns on Sept. 24, 1960 in Traverse City.  James worked diligently at the State Hospital for 34 years. After retirement, he enjoyed gardening, history, reading, traveling and spending time at the Senior Center. Surviving James is his wife; Rosela, children; Scott (Chonda) Baggerly of Traverse City and Carol Joellen Baggerly of Grand Rapids, sisters JoAnn (Dean) Dygert of Battle Creek and Jeanie (Bill) Milnes of Coldwater and several nieces, nephews, cousins and two cats Brandy and Peaches.   Services have taken place. Karl H. Ulrich, 80, of Deerfield passed away Thursday, June 17, 2010, at his home under the loving care of his family. Karl was born Sept. 29, 1929, in Neujugelow, Pommern, Germany, the son of Albert and Magdalena (Luebeck) Ulrich. On June 12, 1954, Karl married Rosalia Roeckl in Toledo, Ohio. Karl was stationed in Germany while serving in the United States Army from 1954-1956. Karl was a tool and die maker for City Machine Tool in Toledo for 26 years. He then worked for Allied Products in Hillsdale, and most recently Chrysler Jeep in Toledo where he retired from in 1995. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Riga. Karl was a member of GBU and actively involved with the Schuetzenverein Shooting Club. He was also a member of the GAF Society Retirees. Karl and Rosalia helped organize the first German American Festival in Toledo during the 1960’s and continued working on them for over 40 years. In addition to Rosalia, his wife of 56 years, Karl is survived by a son, Carl (Stacey) Ulrich of Deerfield; a daughter, Linda (Kevin) Heffelfinger of Hicksville, Ohio; six grandchildren: Daniel, Rick, Paul, Chelsea, Heidi and Brittany; seven great-grandchildren: Alexis, Kaylee, Jorden, Gavin, Jaida, Allyson and Valentina; a brother, Herbert (Hannelore) Ulrich of Germany; and a sister, Margrit (Adam) Werner, also of Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Gerhardt Ulrich; two sisters, Dora Meier and Editha Luthardt; and a great grandson, Aiden J. Ulrich. She was born Sept. 16, 1955, in Sturgis, Mich., a daughter of the late Robert and Evelyn (Gressman) Davis. Kim was a lifelong resident of Sturgis and graduated from Sturgis High School with the class of 1974. On March 29, 2005, she married Robert Gushwa in Las Vegas. Kim had been employed by the Harter Group in Middlebury, Ind., for several years. Prior to joining Harter’s she had worked at Lund-Deflecta Shield in Howe, Ind., for over 10 years. For several years she performed with the Sturgis Wind Symphony playing the bass clarinet. She enjoyed camping, traveling by motorcycle with her husband, bowling and playing cards. She loved her five cats and her dog Spyder who never left her side. Kim truly cherished time spent with her family and many friends. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Gushwa; one daughter, Kelli (her fiancé Gary E. Lewis, Jr.) Stone of Sturgis; two brothers, Bruce (Sandy) Davis and Randy (Mary) Davis, both of Sturgis; sister-in-law, Sherry Davis; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Larry Davis. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. Lawrence Arthur Raymond Mason Lawrence came into this world in Stockbridge, MI on August 18, 1925 and left on June 9, 2010 at the age of 84 in his home surrounded by loved ones. He left behind his wife, Phyllis of 63 years, and four children, Laura Eifert, Margret (Don) Brown, Florence Ables, and Lawrence Clare (Cheryl) Raymond, 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, 3 brothers, and many many nieces, nephews, and unrelated loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clare & Margret Raymond, 2 brothers, David and Elmer, 4 sisters, Lorna, Eunice, Bernice, and Margret Elizabeth, 3 sons-in-law, Chris, Mike, and Johnny. He led a very full life and loved his family very much. Everyone that was brought home became family. His passing leaves a great void in many lives. Linda T. Myers Fowler Linda T. Myers, 64, of Fowler, passed away on June 13, 2010, at her home surrounded by her family. Mrs. Myers was born November 10, 1945, in St. Johns, Michigan, the daughter of Roman and Helen (Brandt) Armbrustmacher. Linda was a loving wife to her husband, Mark, of 45 years. They were married on August 7, 1965, in Fowler, where they raised six sons. She was a devoted stay-at-home mom and housewife while raising her children. Linda later worked as a cook at Fowler Public Schools and then with the Department of Natural Resources. After retirement she enjoyed family time at their cottage, gardening, and bird watching. She was a devout parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church and an avid member of the TOPS club in Fowler. Linda is survived by her husband; sons, Anthony of Chicago, IL, Curt (Michelle) of Potterville, Jamey (Cindi) of Chesapeake, VA, Jonathan (Lisa) of Shepherd, Matthew (Staci) of Westphalia, and Brad (Cynthia) of Fowler; and 13 grandchildren, Ashley, Rachel, Justin, Donovan, Paige, Andrea, Jordan, Halie, Tessa, Candis, Ryan, Braxton and Easton Myers. Linda is also survived by her brothers, Robert and Raymond (Janet) Armbrustmacher. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister-in-law, Alma Armbrustmacher. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler with Fr. Dennis Howard presiding. Burial to follow at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., with rosaries prayed at 3 and 8 p.m., at the Goerge Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes of Fowler. Mrs. Burroughs was born Jan. 29, 1933, in Sturgis, to Leon R. and Merna (Ridley) Paulus. On April 5, 1953, she married Robert G. Burroughs Jr. in LaGrange. He survives in LaGrange. Also surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Cathy Schweitzer of Whitehouse, Tenn., and Bobbi and Dick Craig of LaGrange; three sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Kate Burroughs of Indianapolis, Dave and Jenny Burroughs of Shipshewana, Ind., and Mike and Cathy Burroughs of Howe; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Carol “Cap” and Roger Olds of Sturgis. Marjorie Darbon Haslett Born November 21, 1921 to the Late Orvil and Flo Lawrence; Marjorie Marion Darbon died June 10, 2010 at the age of 88. She grew up in Grand Ledge, Michigan. During WWII she worked as "Rosie the Riveter" at the Diamond REO factory in Lansing. After the war, she worked at Knapps and Jacobsons. Marjorie took great pride in her home; inside and out. She also loved spending time with family and friends on Drummond Island. There were countless days spent fishing or exploring the island and most evenings ended with a campfire. Rain or shine, there was always laughter at the Darbon camp! Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband Neil M. Darbon; and sisters Edie Lawrence and Bonnie Webb. She is survived by her daughter Pamela (Bill) Porterfield; son Greg (Susie) Darbon; grandchildren Melisa Porterfield, Amanda (Eric-Sean) Gotcher, and Elizabeth Darbon; great-grandchildren Colter Sutton, Halen, Karley and EJ Gotcher; brother Keith Lawrence, and sister Jane Lawrence. Charles W. Marvin, 78, of Hillsdale, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2010, at the McGuire Skilled Nursing Facility, Hillsdale. He was born Aug. 14, 1931, in Pittsford, to Earl and Beulah (Hess) Marvin. He was a part-time farmer and retired from DCA in Hillsdale after 25 years of employment. Charles had worked with the Hillsdale County 4-H and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding and working on motorcycles. He loved the land and his family. On July 23, 1951, he married Florence Baughman and she survives. Also surviving are daughters, Marcia (Kenneth) Ledyard and Bonnie Starr, both of Montpelier, Ohio; son, Donald (Kathleen) Marvin, Camden; sisters, Shirley (Richard) Kelly, Kendallville, Ind. and Joan Chamberlain, Girard; brothers, Louis (Jenny) Marvin, Quincy and Max (Mary) Marvin, Tiffin, Ohio; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister (Nina Briggs) and three brothers (Raymond, Herold and Robert Marvin). Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the George White Funeral Home, Reading, with Pastor Mark Elliott officiating. Interment will follow in Frontier Cemetery. He was born Feb. 7, 1928, in Adrian, the son of Martin A. and Clare (Newcomer) Ost. He married Esther Baker in Manchester, on Sept. 22, 1948, and she survives. Don retired from the maintenance department of Hillsdale College in 1988, after 10 years of service and he previously owned and operated Don’s Garage in Pittsford for over 30 years. He graduated from Addison High School Class of 1945, served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and enjoyed woodworking. Surviving Don besides his wife, Esther, are one daughter, Kay (Tom) Sharp of Pittsford; one son, David Ost of Pioneer, Ohio; four grandchildren, Michelle (Bruce) Sharp of Hillsdale, Jennifer (Louie) Lamoth of Mosherville, Jason Sharp of Pittsford and Brian and (Danielle) Sharp of Ransom; four great-great-grandchildren, Kimberly, Wyatt, Carter and Ellie. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Bonnie Valandra and one brother, Melvin Ost. Graveside services for Don will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 21 at North Rome Cemetery, Rome Township (Sandy Beach Road) with Dr. Rev. Samuel Wickard officiating. Jack L. Barker April 5, 1937 — June 16, 2010 Jack Lloyd Barker, 73, an attorney in Hillsdale, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, in Kalamazoo, from complications due to a stroke. Jack was born on April 5, 1937, in Compton, Ky, the son of Averile (Horton) Barker and William Harold Barker. He was married on March 23, 1963 to CarolAnn Coppler. She preceded him in death. Jack graduated in 1954 from Colon High School in Colon. He served in the U.S. Army, from 1959 to 1961 and entered Hillsdale College in the fall of 1961. He met his wife CarolAnn while at Hillsdale College (Class of 1963) and graduated in 1965. He attended the Law School of Wayne State University, and was a graduate of the class of 1971. After graduating from Hillsdale College, Jack worked at Ford Motor from 1965 until 1968, when he entered law school. Upon graduation from law school in 1971 he worked as head of the Trust Department for Manufacturer’s Bank in Detroit until he and CarolAnn moved to Hillsdale in 1973. He went into law practice with Emil Fry and became a very active member of the Hillsdale community. Jack had planned to retire from the practice of law, and tried his last case on Wednesday, June 9, 2010. Jack was a member of the Rotary Club, the Elks Club, Hillsdale Golf & Country Club, the Michigan Bar Association and Hillsdale County Bar Association. He was a board member of the Hillsdale Community Health Center and a member of the Hillsdale County Chamber of Commerce. He was a former member of the Hillsdale City Council. A very avid golfer, Jack took numerous golf trips every year with his friends. Jack was a huge booster and supporter of his alma mater, Hillsdale College. He was a member of the Hillsdale College Alumni Board for over 25 years; received the Alumni Board Recognition award in 1997; was the recipient of the Charger Club Award in 1975 and was a member of the Hillsdale College President’s Club. Jack is survived by his daughter, Shawn-Laree de St. Aubin of Chicago, Ill.; four brothers, Adrian (Helen) of Hoyt Lakes, Minn.; Raymond Gerald (Ruth) of Winter Haven, Fla.; Richard (Dorothy) of Titusville, Fla,; and Bill (Ann) of Kodiak, Alaska, and his companion, Carol Ringenberg. Memorial services for Jack Barker will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the George Roche Sports Center, Hillsdale College. Norman Theodore Drumm, 82, of Coldwater and lifelong resident of Branch County, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2010, at home. He was born Nov. 11, 1927 in Concord to Clarence and Helen (Winchell) Drumm and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952 – 1954. Norman was a farmer for most of his life and also worked at Maple Villa Farms in Quincy for 30 years, retiring in 1990. He was a past member of the Merry Mixers Square Dance Club, an avid fisherman, and loved the outdoors. On April 17, 1955, he married Carol Elaine Wonders and she preceded him in death in 1997. Also surviving are his children, Margaret (Mike) Michael of Montgomery, Larry (Ann) Drumm of Quincy, Susan (Mike) Martin of Quincy and Norman (Shelby) Drumm of Calera, Ala.; sisters, Stella (Fred) Trujello of Hillsdale, Ruth Harris of Tampa, Fla. and Clara Keck of Litchfield; brothers, Robert (Marge) Drumm of Detour, Willard “Bill” (Robin) Drumm of Battle Creek and Lenard (Mary) Drumm of Huntington, Ind.; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother (Kenneth); two sisters, (Mildred and Joyce). Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the George White Funeral Home, Quincy, with the Rev. Clyde Wonders officiating. Interment will follow in Lester Cemetery, Algansee Township. Richard H. (Dick) Osbon Jr., age 76, of Colon, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at Community Health Center of Branch County.  Dick was born Oct. 13, 1933, in Sturgis, a son of the late Richard H. and Dorotha D. (Slagle) Osbon Sr.  Dick had spent all of his life in the St Joseph County area except for the time he spent in the Military.  He graduated from Sturgis High School.  Dick served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 20 years retiring in 1972.He had served during the Korean and Vietnam wars and had received among other honors two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.  He was an active member of the Colon American Legion Post #454 where he had served as commander and was a member of the Colon Masonic Lodge #73 where he had served as Grand Master. He enjoyed fishing and playing pinochle.  He is survived by two daughters, Barb Osbon of Orion, Mich., and Patty (Jim) Miller of Colon; one granddaughter, Carly Miller of Colon; two sisters, Jean (Ray) Rynberg of Cedar Springs, and Roberta Drake of Colon; a brother, Delmar (Kathy) Gieber of Three Rivers; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by one brother, Sheridan Osbon in 1980.  There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place.  A memorial service celebrating the life of Dick Osbon will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon with, Mr. David J. Rita A. George Pewamo Died Jun 10, 2010, at the age of 93. Born in Pewamo, Michigan, on April 10, 1917, she was the daughter of Matilda (Schafer) and Jacob Cook. She lived in the Pewamo area all of her life. She was a homemaker and a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Rita was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Altar Society in Pewamo. She married Joseph A. George, May 14, 1940, and they were married 63 years before he preceded her in death in 2003. Surviving her are three sons, Luke George of St. Johns, Bruce (Diane) George of Pewamo, and Glen (Nadine) George of Wacousta, one daughter, Carol (Bernard) Simon of Westphalia, six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, three sisters, Rosaline Schanski, Katherine (Bill) Bushong, Geraldine (Don) Schafer, and two sister-in-laws, Joan Cook and Joan Smith. In addition to her parents and husband, Rita was preceded in death by her infant son, Mark, two sisters, Bernita Koenigsknecht and Elda George, one brother, Norman Cook, and three brothers-in-law, Leonard Koenigsknecht, Leo George, and Joseph Schanski. Silas loved music, especially playing the harmonica, and he enjoyed the Addison Senior Center. Verlin Dale (Joe) Hopkins

Verlin Dale (Joe) Hopkins Haslett Formerly of Lansing, born May 29, 1928 in Grand Rapids, MI to Oscar and Ethel Hopkins. Verlin Dale Hopkins passed away on May 16, 2010. Verlin grew up in Lansing, MI where he met the love of his life Norma in 1945. He served in the US Navy as a radar man from 1945 to 1947. After returning from service he went to trade school. He was a member of Carpenters Local 1004 for 60 years, where he was a commercial carpenter. After his retirement, he and his wife Norma of 62 years enjoyed their summers at their cottage in Michigan and their winters in Florida, with many friends in both locations. Verlin liked to build houses and cottages and enjoyed helping others with their projects. He enjoyed dancing and karaoke with Norma and their friends. He loved and cherished his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters - Arlene Monk, Ilah Vogg and Helen Hill. He is survived by his wife Norma; 3 children - Cheryl Hopkins, Daniel (Lisa) Hopkins and David (Judy) Hopkins; 5 grandchildren - Stacey (Kelly) Render, Shelly (Jerome) Hartley, Joseph (Kelly) Hopkins, Travis Hopkins and Kyle Hopkins; 3 great-grandchildren - Andrew, Cade and Abigail; brother Lewis (Gloria) Hopkins and sister Betty (Donald) Haney and several nieces and nephews. The Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 26 at 12:00 noon, Lakeside Chapel, 5800 Park Lake Rd., Bath, MI with Pastor Michael Geiger officiating. Vernon Knox

Vernon Knox Montgomery, AL Age 55, died June 10, 2010; born October 10, 1954, in Clarksdale, MS and was a former resident of Lansing. Mr. Knox graduated from Eastern High School on June 13, 1974 and retired from the State of Michigan in 2009, after 30 years of service. He was a devout Christian who enjoyed sports, spending time with his family and friends and listening to the "Blues". Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, W.D. and Mary Martin, and his grandmother, Thelma Knox. He is survived by his wife, Michetta; 2 daughters; 4 sons; 13 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; 9 sisters; and 3 brothers. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 23, at 1 p.m. at Galilee Baptist Church, 2511 Reo Rd., Lansing, with the Rev. Ernest Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Park, Lansing. Wayne E. Steward

Wayne E. Steward Sunfield Mr. Steward passed away Thursday June 17, 2010 in Hastings, MI at the age of 84. He was born May 26, 1926 in Sunfield, MI, son of Charles and Edna (Blood) Steward. On August 20, 1947 he married Mary Jean Krebs, his wife of 62 years. Wayne spent most of his life in the Sunfield area. He attended Figg Country School, Woodland High School, then moved to Charlotte where he graduated in 1944. He also attended MSU. Wayne sold Farm Bureau Insurance, along with his love of farming. Later he worked for DE Wertz, John Deere dealership in Charlotte. Later he became a partner in G & W Sales, John Deere dealership in Lake Odessa for 23 years. Wayne was a longtime and active member of the Sunfield United Brethren Church. He also served as Sunfield Twp. Clerk for 21 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, oldest sister, Irene (Hubert) Foltz, 2 brothers, Mercede, and Clare (Audrey Steward) and 2 grand children, Jana and Joel Briggs. Surviving are his wife, May Jean Steward, 3 children, James (Glenda) Steward of Sunfield, JoAnn (Jerry) Briggs of Sunfield, and Scott (Lori) Steward of Hartland, MI, 6 grand children and 5 great grandchildren, sister, Frances (David) Fast of Hutchinson, Kansas. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. - Tuesday June 22, 2010 at the Sunfield United Brethren Church. Visitation will be 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Monday June 21, 2010 in the fellowship hall at the Church.
