NEW YORK (AP) — Rue McClanahan, the Emmy-winning actress who brought the sexually liberated Southern belle Blanche Devereaux to life on the hit TV series "The Golden Girls," has died. She was 76.

Barbara Jo (Johnson) Tansey Grand Ledge Barbara Jo (Johnson) Tansey, 80, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 3. Barb was born in Canton, Ohio July 9, 1929 and moved with parents Clinton (Ole), Fern (Nana) and brothers Erwin, Stan and Bill to Grand Ledge when she was in the 6th grade. She graduated from Grand Ledge High School in 1947 and briefly attended MSU before marrying her husband of 52 years, Robert (Bob), who preceded her in death. Barb is survived by her four children and their spouses, Bobbie, Jon and Terrilyn, Sheila, Peggy and Dan Mcleod, 5 granddaughters and two grandsons, many nieces, nephews and their families. Along with caring for her family, Barb served as a volunteer, President or officer in various community, school and golf organizations over the years. She also worked in sales at Knapp's and Sears. She enjoyed playing golf, and loved to cook. Barb had an enthusiastic and fun-loving personality, and will be missed by her family, friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends at Holihan-Atkin Funeral Home, Grand Ledge, on Sunday, June 6, from 3 to 6 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church on Monday, June 7 at 1 p.m, with Reverend Fr. Dennis L. "Butch" Kramer Muir Formerly of Fowler, died June 3, 2010, at the age of 56. Born on June 23, 1953, in Carson City, the son of Eldred and Bernadine (Smith) Kramer. Butch was employed by the Clinton County Road Commission, was a member of the Fowler Conservation Club, and the V.F.W. Men's Auxiliary. He married Sandy Ward, on May 1, 2004, and she survives him. Also surviving are his daughter, Jenna Kramer, sons, Troy (Beth) Kramer, Brent (Shiloh) Kramer, stepdaughters, Charmaine Taylor, and Jennifer (Chris Brown) Peiffer, stepsons, Thad Peiffer, and Jeremie Peiffer, grandchildren, Shaun Kramer, Chase Kramer, Isaac Kramer, Thomas Peiffer, Mark Kramer, Jr., Dante Kramer, Abygayle Brown, and Carter Dennis Brown, brothers, Mark (Deb) Kramer, Ed (Deb) Kramer and Luke Kramer, and brother in law, Louie (Diane) Smith and many nieces and nephews. Elaine Schols Littlefield Elaine S. Littlefield left us to be with our Lord on April 25, 2010. She was born Elaine Cecilia Schols on December 6, 1919, in Grand Rapid, Michigan. She attended Michigan State University where she met and married her husband of 51 years, J. Lyle Littlefield. Mr. Littlefield preceded her in death in 1991. She lived in East Lansing, Michigan for 20 years; Fremont, Michigan for 14 years; Nokomis, Florida for 25 years, in retirement and her final two years in Willis, Texas. Everywhere she lived, she was always active in local area churches, clubs and organizations, volunteering her time and talents to each. She is survived by two sons, Larry of Ault, Colorado and Floyd and his wife, Carolyn, of Willis, Texas and also three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. August 21, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Farwell, Michigan and a graveside service following, where she will rest with her husband. Lyle graduated as valedictorian in his class of 1951 from Sunfield High School and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting from Ferris State University. He was formerly employed as a CPA for Wyandott Corp. and owned several businesses, including Lyles Party Store of Grand Ledge. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army; a member of the Cole-Briggs American Legion Post 48, Belleville Masonic Lodge, and was also a member of the Order of Eagles Aerie 2371. Survivors include his daughter, Carla Lohr of Grand Ledge; four sisters: Audrey Lugibihl of Grand Ledge, Mary (John) Wellton of Grand Ledge, Evelyn VanHouten of Mulliken and Joyce Brown of Grand Ledge; brothers, George (Carol) Curtis of Holt and David Curtis of Mulliken, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Margaret Feazel and Helen Brokaw and brother, William Curtis. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 7, 2010 - 11:00 a.m. at the Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge, followed by Military Honors at Oakwood Cemetery, Grand Ledge. Margaret Mae Leavitt

Margaret Mae Leavitt St. Johns Passed away Thursday, June 3, 2010 at the age of 92. She was born to Charles Benona and Gertrude Belle (Holley) Morrill in rural Clinton County on February 16, 1918 and spent most of her childhood in and around Ovid. On June 10, 1938 Margaret married George C. Leavitt of Elsie and in 1941, they along with George's parents, moved to Washington Township, Gratiot County, where they raised three children, operated a cash crop and livestock farming business and lived their entire married life of 64 years. Margaret graduated from Ovid High School with the class of 1936. She graduated in 1937 from Clinton County Normal School. She then began a rewarding and enjoyable teaching career. Her teaching assignments were at the Cedar Lake School in Victor Township, village schools in Pompeii and Bannister and Alma Middle School. By taking night and Saturday classes through Central Michigan University, Margaret graduated with a B. S. Degree in Elementary Education in 1960 and continued teaching until her retirement in 1973. Margaret is survived by her son, Dale Leavitt of Washington Township, two daughters, Betty Leavitt and Marilyn (Thomas) Irrer of St. Johns, daughter-in-law, Christine Leavitt of St. Johns; seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and one brother, Stanley (Jean) Morrill of Laingsburg and many nieces, nephews and their families. Along with her husband, George, she was preceded in death by her four brothers, Clyde (Zetta), Clifton (Julia), Orley (Wilma), & Gaylord (Elaine) Morrill, and one sister, Mildred (Steven)Toth. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns, Michigan, burial will follow at Collier Cemetery with Pastor Kathy Leydorf officiating. Mary Jean Russman

Mary Jean Russman Portland Age 53, our loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend was called home to our Lord on June 3, 2010. Her courageous two year battle with Leukemia ended peacefully surrounded by family at her home on Pleasant Street. Mary was known for her compassion, loving and giving nature, her strong Christian faith, her sense of humor and her beautiful smile. Mary is a recent recipient of Spring Arbor University's Honorary Alumni Award, Bachelor of Family Life Education Program to which she worked very hard to achieve. She was a former employee of the Eaton County Sheriff's Department as a deputy and worked there for 13 years. Her favorite things in life were being with family and friends, sunsets on the beach, playing games, music, writing her book of hope, watching movies, flowers, feeding the birds and squirrels, and girl's night out. Mary was preceded in death by her brother Frederick, Jr., and parents Julaine and Frederick "Fritz" Russman. She was blessed with two daughters and four granddaughters, Melissa Rapp (Summer, Lili and Stella) and Heather (Kevin Lee) Moore (Tianna); three sisters, Joan Russman, Bonnie (Pat) Dawdy and Connie (Todd) Droste; two brothers, Bill (Barbara) Russman and Bob (Tracy) Russman - 11 nieces and nephews, Brad Bloye, Sarah Russman, Michelle Scochin, Autumn Dawdy, Kristin Dawdy, Caleb Dawdy, Nicole Russman, Brandon Droste, Eric Russman and Joseph Arens as well as a great nieces and nephew, Bridget and Ben Bloye, Ava Bryan. On June 2, 2010, our precious angel Mattie Elizabeth Powell, age 5, of Fayette, Ohio, earned her wings and flew home to be with the Lord. Mattie had a great day. She played, did crafts, took pictures and gave Mommy and Daddy hugs and kisses all before taking a nap. When she woke up she was in the presence of the Lord. Mattie fought a courageous 2 1/2 year battle with brain and bone cancer. Mattie had a beautiful smile that filled the room with joy. She touched many lives in her short lifetime. He was executive director of the Michigan Family Forum and currently an administrative law judge (Magistrate) for the State of Michigan. He was a member of Trinity Church in Lansing and the Bar Associations in the states of Michigan and Kansas; participant in transformation athletics; and an evangelical speaker. Michael was married to Ruth M. King in Wichita, Kan. in 1975 and she survives him. He is also survived by his children, Christopher Noun of Fla., Stephanie Noun (Nick) Harder of Grinnell, Iowa, Eric (Danielle) Harris of Woodland Park, Colo.; grandchildren, Bray, Cayler, Corder, and Foster Harder; mother, Jeanne T. Milton J. Graham, Jr. Holt Age 84, passed away June 3, 2010. He was born January 24, 1926 the son of Milton, Sr. and Susan (Beardsley) Graham. Milton served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked 39 years and 9 months for Motor Wheel as a Millwright. He volunteered for over 20 years with Ingham Regional Medical Centers and was a lifelong member of the Church of the Nazarene. Milton was preceded in death by his son, Robert L. Graham. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rose Marie Graham; children, Becky (Bob) Kellogg and Norman P. Cash O’Neill Harmon Time stood still as a celebration of life began at 4:50 am, Sunday, May 30, 2010, as Cash O’Neill Harmon bestowed his arrival upon his proud and loving parents, Nathan Harmon and Colleen O’Neill.  Precious memories were made and friends and family were filled with unequivocal joy as he walked into their hearts where he will forever roam. At 10:50 a.m., their son spread his angel wings and as he began to fly his newborn soul was lifted from his earthly body.  As now, our guardian, Cash will walk beside his grandfather, Donald L. Harmon, and others to guide and protect friends and family. Cash has left his imprint in the souls of those whom he is survived by. Delbert Eugene White, 84, of Camden and Goodland, Fla., passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at home under the loving care of his family. Born Aug. 31, 1925, in Montgomery, he was the son of Ray and Hazel (Thorne) White and graduated from Montgomery High School in 1943. Del was a medic in the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II in the Pacific on the USS Barnes aircraft carrier from 1943-45. He was co-owner and operator of the Montgomery Egg Co.,  for 25 years and also owned and operated Del’s Mobile Homes and The Bluffs. He was instrumental in developing the land at Quincy Heights, Marble Lake and Lake Diane. Del served on the board of directors for the Camden Development Corporation and the Camden Telephone Company. He was a member of the Montgomery American Legion and the Elks and Moose Lodges. Outside of his work and family, Del enjoyed traveling. His journeys took him to Iceland, the Amazon, Costa Rica, Europe, Mexico and Africa. He also enjoyed local travels, specifically on a Motor-Sailor through the Inland Coastal Waterways and a boat cruise through the Great Lakes from Niagara Falls to the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. Del was very proud of the fact that he had crossed the International Dateline 25 times as a sailor and later in his travels. On Dec. 21, 1944, he married Jean Stewart and she survives in Camden. A celebration honoring her life is scheduled at at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Chas. J. Burden and Son Funeral Home, 1806 E. Michigan, Jackson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard A. “Dick” Bumpus on Dec. 19, 2009, whom she married on Feb. 14, 1948; one son, Michael Bumpus and one brother, Herman Walters. She is survived by two daughters, Karen (Steve) Dewey and Susan (Alan) Cook all of North Adams; one daughter-in-law, Marcia Bumpus of North Adams; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Florence Shum of Iowa; one brother, Charles (Peggy) Walters of Texas and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bumpus was a lifelong resident of North Adams and enjoyed being a homemaker and spending time with her family. She was a member of the North Adams United Methodist Church, the North Adams UMW and the Adams Grange. At her request cremation has taken place and a memorial service to honor the life of Mrs. Martha L. Bumpus will be held at the Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home in Hillsdale beginning at 2 p.m. Friday with Pastor Paul Hane officiating. A private interment will take place in the Northlawn Cemetery. He was a graduate of Hillsdale High School in 1974 and attended Jackson Community College. Steve was an avid hunter and was a member of the National Rifle Association. Surviving besides his wife Sue are three daughters, Brandy Kesler-Stebelton, Jane Cole and Katie Rearick; four sons, Jeremiah (Kala) Stebelton, Timothy Spence, Gabriel Edgar and Jeremy (DeLinda) Lamontaine; four brothers, Arthur (Marsha) Stebelton, Cedric Stebelton Jr., John (Cathy) Stebelton and Randy (Paula) Stebelton; seven grandchildren, Kira Stebelton, Alijah Rearick, Alicen Bradley, Caleb and Matthew Shrontz, Taylor Heckman and Kaleb Anderson. Steven is also survived by 28 adopted children. At Steve’s request, cremation has taken place. Mr. Fitzcharles was a 1962 graduate of Edgerton High School. He served as a volunteer fireman with the Edgerton Fire Department for many years and was a member of its championship waterball team. He was employed with Pretz Stark Construction, Bill Siebenaler Construction, the Pulaski Co-op, and Babb Trucking and retired from Weber Sand and Gravel. He was a member of the Montpelier Eagles, Montpelier Moose Lodge and the Pioneer American Legion. Walter O. Fitzcharles was born on Feb. 24, 1944, in Edgerton, Ohio, the son of Alvin Estel and Gertrude Mae (Wiles) Fitzcharles. He married Patricia A. Mason on Oct. 13, 1962, in Cooney, Ohio, and she survives. He is survived by four sons, Todd (Joni) Fitzcharles, of Mount Airy, N.C., Terry (Mary Jane) Fitzcharles, of Bryan, Ohio, Tim (Pam) Fitzcharles and Tracy (Dawn) Fitzcharles, both of Edgerton, and one daughter, Teresa (Andy) Stickney, of Montpelier, Ohio. Also surviving are one brother, Vaughn Fitzcharles, of Edgerton, and 14 grandchildren, Nathan (Michelle) and Ashley McCandless; Megan Eicher; Jason, Chelsey, Samantha, Cassie, Jeremy Dayne and Kole Fitzcharles; Damion Heinze; Tanner Stickney; Chandler Nester; and Kennedy Stuut; and three great-grandchildren, Dylan and Koleton McCandless and Ainsleigh Papenbrock. She was preceded in death by her father, Ellis Sparks; her mother, Elsie Gipson; six brothers and one sister. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held from 3-6 p.m. Saturday, June 12 at the Burr Oak Missionary Church, 327 N. Third St., Burr Oak. Dinner will follow the service in the fellowship center. Patrick Detzler

Patrick N. Detzler Lansing Age 95, passed away on June 3, 2010 at Eaton Community Hospice in Charlotte, MI. Pat was born July 30, 1914 in Newberry, MI to Nicholas J. and Julia E. (Quinlan) Detzler. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Arvilla Detzler and Frances Leaf. Pat joined the Michigan State Police in 1937 after working with his father in his trucking business throughout the Upper Peninsula. He was stationed at many posts during his career with the MSP rising to the rank of Lieutenant Detective when he retired in 1963. Among his assignments were the Special Investigation Squad, assisting military intelligence during World War II and serving on guard detail for President Truman when he visited Michigan. He later worked for Boichot Concrete as a salesman before joining the Michigan State Highway Department as an investigator. While working for the MSP he met Caroline Smith whom he married on November 6, 1948. Caroline became a stay-home mom with the arrival of their two children but returned to work at the Michigan State Highway Department from which they both retired in 1983. They spent the next 12 years enjoying retirement with friends both here in Lansing and in Orange Beach, AL spending much of their time golfing. Caroline passed away in 1995. Pat spent the next 15 years continuing to enjoy playing golf and cards with many friends locally as well as continuing his trips to Alabama as a resident snow bird with his friend Alberta Hardy. Pat is survived by his daughter, Cathy Huber and her husband, Dan, of Combined Locks, WI as well as a son Michael and two granddaughters, Paige and Colleen, of Geneva, IL. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, June 7, 2010, at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 W. Willow St., Lansing, with The Rev. Fr. Prabhu Lakra as celebrant. The Rite of Committal will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, 2520 W. Willow St. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. and one hour prior to the service time on Monday. Susan Alice Steffey, age 71, of Mendon, died Friday May 28, 2010, at her home.   She was born Aug. 1, 1938, in Grosse Pointe, a daughter of Ivan and Marjorie (Gooch) Misener. She graduated from Pontiac High School in 1956.   On Sept. 11, 1959, she  married Herbert Steffey in Pontiac. They continued to reside in suburban Detroit and retired to Mendon in 1992. Susan was a homemaker, and enjoyed canning items from her garden, along with cooking, baking and crocheting. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and camping, and life along the river. She attended the Leonidas Baptist Church. Susan is survived by her husband, Herbert; a daughter, Debra (Dale) Baker of Mendon; a son, Herbert (Carol) Steffey Jr. of Millersburg, Ohio; four grandchildren, Alicia Baker, Kari Baker, Brian Baker and Jeff Welch; three great-grandchildren, Isaac, Michael and Emily (along with soon expected, Autumn); two sisters, Sally Cipher of Oregon and Polly Hight of Walled Lake; two brothers, Tom Misener of Oregon and Mike Misener of California; a step-brother, Jon Rives of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.   She was preceded in death by her parents; and by her stepfather, Earl Rives. The family will receive friends from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Pastor David Stevens of the Leonidas Baptist Church officiating.  Cremation will follow services. The Rev. Erwin Allan Ruhlig, age 81, of Athens, Ill., and a former resident of Sturgis and pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis, received his crown of glory at his home Thursday afternoon, June 3, 2010. He was born Oct. 30, 1928, in Dexter, a son of the late Emil and Hazel (Campbell) Ruhlig. The sainted Rev. Carl Brauer baptized, confirmed, married and ordained him. He grew up in the Dexter area, vegetable farming with his father and selling the produce to the Detroit markets. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Germany during the Korean War. Upon discharge, he attended Concordia Theology Seminary in Springfield, Ill., earning his college and theological degrees and graduating in 1961. On Aug. 7, 1959, he married Karen Keller at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor. The Lord blessed their union with five children. Pastor Ruhlig served his vicarage year at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Miami. He served parishes in St. James Lutheran Church, Northrop, Minn. (1961-1967), Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, Indianola, Iowa (1967-1974) and Trinity Lutheran Church, Sturgis (1974-1998). In 1998, he moved to Athens, Ill., and served as the executive director for the Ongoing Ambassadors for Christ (OAFC), a youth evangelism program serving all of the United States. After retiring, he served as the business manager of OAFC. Training and experience taught him to be an excellent listener, counselor and evangelist. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 50 years, Karen; two sons, Steven (Vanessa) Ruhlig of Champaign, Ill., and the Rev. Michael (Tammy) Ruhlig of Tuscola, Ill.; two daughters, Beth (Kristian) Fosse of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Sarah (Derek) Dunnagan of Peoria, Ill.; one granddaughter, Zoe Ruhlig; eight grandsons, Ethan and Judah Ruhlig, Jonathan and Bradley Ruhlig and Adam, Aaron, Jacob and Joseph Fosse; three sisters, Alice Gall of Ann Arbor, Helen (Howard) Schafer of Pioneer, Ohio, and Lois (Donald) Lutz of Jeffersonville, Ind.; one brother, Albert (Madonna) Ruhlig of Dexter; mother-in-law, Hazel Keller of Leesburg, Fla.; sister-in-law, Patricia Murphy of Adamsville, Tenn.; and numerous nieces and nephews covering four generations. He was preceded in death by one son, Daniel Ruhlig; two brothers; and two sisters. For God so loved Erwin that he gave His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to suffer, die, and rise in victory for Erwin, so that if Erwin believes in Jesus as his Savior from sin, Erwin shall not parish, but Erwin shall have everlasting life. (refer to John 3:16) A family and friends gathering will take place from 5-7 p.m. today (Saturday) at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Athens, Ill., where services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday. Following the service Pastor Ruhlig will be transported to Sturgis. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life Pastor Erwin A. Ruhlig will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Bill Gates will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Sturgis Memorial Gardens. The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Pastor Ruhlig’s memory consider Ongoing Ambassadors for Christ, P.O. 175, Nokomis, IL 62075. Vernon DeVantier, 78, of Blissfield went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, June 3, 2010, at his home. Vernon was born on March 2, 1932, to Edward and Thekla DeVantier in Bergholtz, N.Y.  On July 2, 1955, in Lewiston, N.Y., he married Harriet Landres. At the age of 9, Vernon heard a missionary speak and from that moment on he decided that he wanted to be a pastor. He received his bachelor’s degree from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, in 1954 and his Master’s in Divinity from the Evangelical Theological Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio, in 1958. His first call was to St. Mark’s and Bethlehem Lutheran Churches in Defiance, Ohio. In 1965 he was called to serve at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Blissfield, where he ministered for 23 years. Before retiring, he also served at Zion Lutheran Church in Petersburg, Mich., and St. Michael Lutheran Church in Ottawa Lake, Mich., where he was a member and sang in the choir. In addition to serving the Lord, Vernon also gave back to the community. He was a past member of the Blissfield Rotary. He also served as a board member of the Bliss Liewert Senior Center, and of the Lenawee Parks and Recreation Board. Because of his love and concern for the unborn, one of his greatest joys was serving for 30 years on the Living Water Works, Crisis Pregnancy Center Board in Adrian, Mich. Vernon is survived by his wife of 54 years, Harriet DeVantier of Blissfield, one son, James (Michelle) DeVantier of Blissfield and three daughters, Louise (Gregory) Solak of St. Joseph, Mich., Deborah (David) Kimmelman of Riga and Barbara (Ronald) Schmidt of Blissfield; 11 grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Solak, Erica, Lindsay and David DeVantier, Kelly, James and Katie Kimmelman and Amy, Eric and Anna Schmidt; three brothers, Edward (Elaine) DeVantier, Roger (Doris) DeVantier and Loren (Norma) DeVantier; and many other wonderful relatives. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Thekla. Funeral services for Vernon will be held on Monday, June 7, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 5790 W. Temperance Road, Ottawa Lake, Mich. 49267, with Pastor Mark D. Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery in Blissfield. Visitation will take place on Sunday, June 6, 2010 from 1 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. at the Wagley Funeral Home, Tagsold Chapel, in Blissfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Lenawee or to St. Michael Lutheran Church, Ottawa Lake. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
