Catherine Rabels Catherine Rabels, age 96, a resident of St. Clair Shores for 50 years, passed away on February 1, 2010, at St. John Medical Center. She was a parishioner of St. Isaac Jogues for 50 years. Member of St. Gertrude's Seniors, St. Clair Shores Senior Cruisers. She is survived by her children, Marlene (Dr. Frank) Cox, Pauline (Jim) Kuisel, Joyce (Chuck) Gaigalas; and grandchildren, Paul Calcaterra, Bonnie Fernadez, David Calcaterra, Jill Coffey, Greg Kuisel, Wende Lambert, Any Weihe, Jason Kuisel, Diann Scott, Christopher Gaigalas, Scott Gaigalas; 31 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband, Paul E. Rabels; and grandson, James Kuisel. A funeral service will he held Saturday at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church at 10 a.m. officiated by Fr. Tim Mazer. David Louis Vander Muellen David Louis Vander Muellen, born June 28, 1949, went to be with the Lord on January 31, 2010. Beloved husband of Diane. Loving father of Todd, Christopher and Craig Vander Muellen. Loving stepfather of Tracy (Nick) Licari, Jamie Beisiegel, Jeffrey (Rene) Cooley, and Tawnya (Mark) Detherage. Devoted grandfather to Jonathan, Heather, Adam and Leah. He is also survived by his mother, Elizabeth; sister, Bonnie (Paul Laidler) Vander Muellen; brother, Richard (Mary) Vander Muellen; nephew, Richard; brothers-in-law, Ted and Danny; sisters-in-law, Debbie and Deborah; and many extended family and friends that will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard C. Vander Muellen. David was a talented tool and die maker and enjoyed his sports tremendously. Dorothy Gilson, 87, of Blissfield passed away Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at Blissfield Place in Blissfield. Dorothy was born on Jan. 2, 1923, in Detroit, the daughter of Dan and Ada (Muholland) Schlotter. She was married to James “Ed” Gilson on Oct. 15, 1944. He preceeded her in death in 2002. Together, Ed and Dorothy owned and operated Gilson’s Hardware store in Blissfield. Dorothy served on the Blissfield Village Council for many years, and was a member of the Blissfield American Legion Auxiliary. She also was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Blissfield. In their free time, Dorothy and Ed traveled extensively. Surviving are her children, James E. (Diana) Gilson of Valley Center, Kan., Letah K. (Richard) Kilmer of Blissfield, Denise L. (Doug) Adams of Yucaipa, Calif., and Laurie A. (Keith) Forche of Blissfield; grandchildren, Jim (Claudine) Gilson, Jeremy (Jaretta) Gilson, Dana (Christopher) Sargent, Leslie (Ben) Nachtrab, Samuel (Kelly) Forche and Benjamin (Lindsey) Forche; and great-grandchildren, Grady Gilson, Adrienne Gilson, Meghan Palmer, Annika Gilson and Ryker Sargent. Following Dorothy’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Her family will receive visitors on Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Tagsold Funeral Home in Blissfield. Edith Marie Stone, age 85, of Sturgis, passed away Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at the Sturgis Hospital Emergency Room.  She was born July 26, 1924, in Goshen, Ind.,  a daughter to the late Willard L. and Elizabeth (Schriener) Brown.  Edith had been a resident of Sturgis most of her life and had been employed by the Sturgis Credit Bureau for three years, the Gateway Shopper, and as office manager for Direct Lumber, Inc. in Burr Oak, for 21 years, retiring in 1980. On Feb. 5, 1944, she married Robert W. Chapla.  While serving in the U.S. Air Force during World War II he was M.I.A. on June 26, 1945 and was declared deceased one year later. On Dec. 30, 1948, in Bristol, Ind., she married Wendell O. Stone.  He preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 2004. Edith was baptized in Burr Oak in the United Methodist Faith and was active with her high school graduating class of 1941.  She was also an active member of the Sturgis Women’s Club, enjoyed creative writing, crafts, casino gambling, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and was an avid arm chair Michigan sports fan.   Surviving are one daughter, Vivian (Terry) VanNest of Sturgis; three sons, Richard Stone and family friend, Bob Lederman of Sturgis, John E. Stone of Sturgis, and Thomas P. Stone of Florida; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and one brother, Willard L. Brown. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place.  A memorial service celebrating the life of Edith M. Stone will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, at the Hackman Family Funeral Home - Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091 with the Rev. Deb Johnson, First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak, MI.  Memorial donations in her memory may be directed to the Sturgis Women’s Club, 1001 Walker Ave., Sturgis, MI 49091. Elaine K. (Kibiloski) Grindle, 66, of Coldwater, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010 at her home, with her family by her side, following a long, courageous battle with cancer. The family will receive friends and family from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Dutcher-Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson, with the Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary of Assumption Church in Bronson, with the Rev. Fr. Richard Fritz officiating. Interment of ashes will be held in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bronson.  Elaine was born May 13, 1943, to David and Natalie (Smoker) Kibiloski in Battle Creek. She graduated from Bronson High School in 1961 and went on to attend Wright’s Beauty Academy, graduating in 1962. She married Dean B. Grindle in August 1979 in Bronson. He preceded her in death in 1995. Elaine was a lifelong resident of Bronson, later moving to Coldwater, where she owned and operated her own beauty shop, Elaine’s Hairstylists, from 1964 to 1974. She held many other jobs through the years, working for the Community Health Center of Branch County, the State Police Post and Wal-Mart. Elaine was a member of St. Mary of Assumption Church and the Coldwater Eagles. She served as a judge for the Branch County 4-H Fair parade committee, former Girl Scouts leader, former “Big Sister” for the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, and an organizer for the St. Judes Bike-a-thon. She also volunteered as a home health care provider in Coldwater. Elaine enjoyed the casinos and shopping the flea market at Shipshewana. She also loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  Elaine is survived by her son, David Grindle and financee Autumn Elliott of Quincy; her daughter, Kimberly (Matt) Dwyer of Coldwater; her brother, Larry Kibiloski and his wife, Virginia Ryan, of Kansas City, Mo.; and her grandchildren, Ashley, Stephanie and Lance Coco, AnnaKate Dwyer, Shane Grindle and Kaitlyn Grindle. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her infant twins, Mari and Terri Roach, in 1969. Ellen May Cole, age 89‚ of Constantine, passed away Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at the Fairview Living Centre in Centreville. She was born in Three Rivers on May 25, 1920, a daughter of Delbert L. and Ethel O. (Stevenson) Cole. Ellen was a homemaker and she enjoyed making jewelry and collecting dolls. Surviving Ellen are her brothers, Delbert J. Cole and George L. Cole, both of Constantine; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother at infancy; and four sisters, Dorothy Cole, Kyra Tokarski, Ruth Brooks and Juanita Anderson. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and interment of ashes will be in Riverside Cemetery in Three Rivers. Arrangement were handled by Eley Funeral Homes in Constantine.   |

Florence Anne Miller Florence Anne Miller (nee Morehouse), age 86, of Grosse Pointe Woods, died January 29, 2010. From 1945 until she retired in 1984, Mrs. Miller worked for the Grosse Pointe Public School System. Over the course of her career, she was a teacher at Pierce Middle School, an assistant principal at Pierce, and an assistant principal at Grosse Pointe North High School. After retiring, she served as a volunteer at Henry Ford Hospital and the Detroit Institute of Arts and was active in many civic organizations and at her church. Beloved wife of the late Eugene. Dear sister of Constance Davidson. Dear sister-in-law of Elizabeth Moorehouse. Dear aunt of Richard Lathrop, John Morehouse, Mary Bamford, David Whitehouse, William Davidson, James Davidson, Alice Davidson, Martha Warburton, John Davidson, Kevin Moorehouse, Ann Moorehouse, Bruce Moorehouse, Joseph Moorehouse, Jane Marsden, and Laura Trudeau, together with the spouses, partners, children and grandchildren. Florentine G. “Toots” Czajkowski, 92, of Chelsea, formerly of Bronson, died Jan. 29, 2010, at the Chelsea Retirement Community.  Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church in Bronson with Rev. Fr. Richard Fritz officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bronson. Visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m. today at the Dutcher-Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson with the Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m.  Florentine was born on April 29, 1917, to George and Clara (Yesh) Kelley in Bronson. She attended Bronson High School. She married Frank Czajkowski on Sept. 28, 1940, at St. Mary of Assumption in Bronson. He preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 1997. She was primarily a homemaker but did work outside of the home. She had worked for the Douglas factory for seven years and then in 1957 she and her husband built the White Swan Motel in Bronson. They operated the motel until 1972.  Florentine was a member of St. Mary of Assumption Church, the Rosary Society and the Lady Knights of Columbus.  She and her husband worked at the K of C fish fry together and enjoyed attending their dance club. She also enjoyed flowers, cooking and baking, playing cards, sewing and fishing. Florentine especially loved spending time with her family.  She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Mike) Darr of Dexter; her son, Francis (Judy) Czajkowski of Roseville; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, James (Karen) Kelley of Ontonagon; and a sister-in-law, Gwen Kelley.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Susan Hewlett in 2001; and two brothers, Alvin Kelley and Gerald Kelley.  Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mary of Assumption Church or School. Gertrude Jane “Trudy” Dury, age 77, of Sturgis, Mich.,  passed away early Sunday morning, Jan. 31, 2010, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis following a five-month illness. She was born Nov. 13, 1932, in Detroit, Mich., a daughter to the late Charles and Lucille (Baer) Richards. Trudy had resided in Sturgis since 1953. Her early life was spent in Montpelier, Ohio and she had also lived briefly in San Antonio, Texas and Fort Wayne, Ind. On Feb. 11, 1951, she married William Dury in Bryan, Ohio. She and her husband founded, owned and operated Dury Oil Company in Sturgis and she was a dedicated wife and mother. She received her associate degree from the International Business School in Fort Wayne, Ind., where she graduated number one in her class. She was a past president of the Business and Professional Women’s Club and was involved in the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Trudy was always actively involved in her children’s lives. She was a Girl Scout leader and for many years she was a ballet assistant. She enjoyed singing, photography, arts and crafts including jewelry making and rock collecting. In the more recent years advanced stages of Multiple Sclerosis limited her involvement in community functions. She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 58 years, William “Bill” Dury; two daughters, Kendra (Troy) King of Leonidas and Kim (Vince) Little of Sturgis; one son, Kyle (Christina) Dury of Vicksburg; 10 grandchildren, McLaine Dury, Shelby Dury, Nathaniel Dury, Natasha Bowman, Cameron Bowman, Craig Bowman, Nick King, Katie King, Grant Little and Blake Little; and several nieces and nephews. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel, 114 S. James J. Malane James J. Malane, age 88, of Ira Township, died February 1, 2010, at St. John River District Hospital, St. Clair. Born November 13, 1921, in Port Huron, Mich. Retired machine repairman for Chrysler Corp. John T. Merz, age 55, of Tecumseh passed away Jan. 31, 2010. John was born June 9, 1954, in Tecumseh, Mich., the son of Albert and Jean (ParDee) Merz. He was a 1972 graduate of Tecumseh High School and received a Bachelor’s degree in 1977 from Western Michigan University. Throughout his life he was self employed, first as a Manufacturer Sales Rep and later owned and operated restaurants in North Carolina. In his youth, he played football, baseball and hockey. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and did organizational and promotional work for them. John was an avid fisherman and hunter, traveling the globe to do so. NASCAR was another passion of his. John is survived by his brother, Robert, and his wife, Karen Merz, of Brooklyn, and nephew, Nicolas, of Brooklyn. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian, with the Rev. Lloyd Jewett officiating. Kenneth Edgar Welch, 83, passed away in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Jan. 28, 2010. Born on Oct. 20, 1926 in Adrian, Mich., the second of four children born to Percy and Mollie Welch. Ken was a 1944 graduate from Adrian High School. He was a Navy veteran of World War II in the Pacific Theater. In 1947 he married his beloved wife, Dorothy Marie (Albro). They celebrated 62 happy years of marriage. For many years he helped run the family business, Welch Cleaners, in Adrian. He later became a “Million Dollar Seller” with Prudential Life Insurance. He served as a City Commissioner (City of Adrian), a Trustee at the First Presbyterian Church, and a Boy Scout Master. He helped his Boy Scouts build the Scout Building on the Adrian Fair Grounds. After moving to Scottsdale, Ariz., in 1974, he worked for years at Handyman, Home Depot and Paul’s Hardware, where his building knowledge was in high demand. Ken and his wife were world travelers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Mollie Welch; brother, Royal Welch, and sister, Dorothy Eberline. He is survived by his wife, daughter, Judy Jenkins (David); son, Jerry; brother, Donald Welch of Adrian; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Right after his death his great-grandson, Benjamin (9) said, “I never saw him angry or sad; he was always happy.” Private services were held at Green Acres Mortuary, Scottsdale, Ariz. Leola was born Aug. 29, 1913 in LaGrange, Ind. to William S. and Grace (Peck) Kerns. She married George L. Middleton on Dec. 17, 1933 in LaGrange, Ind. He preceded her in death on Aug. 8, 1964. Leola and her husband came to Girard 73 years ago, establishing their family farm in 1947. They loved farming and Leola spent many years working along with her husband on their farm. She also had been a nurse’s aide at the Community Health Center of Branch County from 1956 until her retirement in 1981. Some of Leola’s favorite pastimes were knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, cake decorating, ceramics, flower gardening, traveling, playing cards and watching The Young and The Restless. She loved to spend time with her family and enjoyed cooking for their gatherings. Leola is survived by her daughters Phyllis (Terry) Weaver of Grand Rapids and Gwen Stokes of Grant, brothers Herbert Kerns of LaGrange, Ind. and William (Emma Louise) Kerns, Jr. of Burr Oak, her grandchildren Steve Stokes of Lowell, Ken Stokes of Tustin, Roxanne Bell of Brohman, Sheila Duckering of Fenton and Richard Weaver of Farmington Hills, nine great-grandchildren and seven great, great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters and her granddaughter Renee Weaver. Memorials may be directed to the Commission on Aging. Mary Kavalauskus Mary Kavalauskus, age 93, of Warren, Michigan, passed away peacefully at her home with family at her side on February 1, 2010. Mary was born in Coalton, Oklahoma, but raised her family on Bloom Street in Detroit. She loved her family, friends, and her Catholic faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; and her son, Joseph Jr. (Jojo). Beloved mother of Michael (Tina), Carolyn, Kathryn (Michael) Butkus, and Judith (Richard) Swiderski. Dear grandmother of Karen (Jon) Madill, Susan (Troy) Bartlett, Jason, Lauren (David) Billings, Michele, David, Christine, Nicole, Kaitlyn, and Kelsy. She had one great-grandchild, Jackson, and two on the way. Visitation Thursday from 1 to 9 p.m. at the Sterling Heights Chapel of the E.J. Mary Louise Somsel, 62, of Hillsdale, passed away Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility.  She was born Feb. 28, 1947 in Cambria Township, to Lorain and June (Keiser) Farrell.  She was formerly married to John Bowman in 1963.  On July 8, 1977, she married Carl Somsel and he survives. Mary was a member of the Hillsdale City Church.  She attended Hillsdale High School.  Mary enjoyed her grandchildren, family activities, camping and garage sales. Surviving besides her husband Carl are two children, Melinda Breault and Brian Bowman, both of Hillsdale; her mother, June Dull of Osseo; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Barb (Mike) Vernier of Coldwater and Sherry (Phil) Shaw of North Adams; two step-sons, Kevin and Scott; two half-sisters, Linda and Pat and a half-brother, Joe; and best friend Becky Hanning. She was preceded in death by her father, Lorain and step-father, Don Dull. Graveside memorial services for Mary Somsel will take place at a later date at the Morgan Cemetery in Hillsdale County.  There will be no visitation or calling hours at this time.  Arrangements are entrusted to the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale. Melanie May Collins, 32, of Hillsdale, passed away Saturday Jan. 23, 2010 at the Hillsdale Community Health Center. She was born July 25, 1977 in Coldwater. She graduated from Litchfield High School in 1995 and was a substitute bus driver for Camden-Frontier Schools. Melanie received a medical assistant degree from Ross Medical School and was attending Kellogg Community College to become a registered nurse. She enjoyed cooking, music and dancing, had a wonderful sense of humor and an outgoing personality, and loved her family. On Oct. 23, 1999, she married John Collins and he survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Allison Marie Collins, Hillsdale; a son, Jared Michael Collins, Hillsdale; parents, Marion Leroy and Alice (Houtz) Stemen,  Allen; sister, Amy (Jack Church) Stemen, Homer; and a brother, Joshua (Sarah) Stemen, Quincy. She was preceded in death by two grandmothers and two grandfathers. Funeral services are at 1 pm. Thursday at the George White Funeral Home, Reading, with Pastor Paul Pickell officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Jefferson Township. Visitation is scheduled Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family. |

Michael J. Crison, 47, of Sterling, Va., formerly of Adrian, passed away unexpectedly Jan. 28, 2010, in Los Angeles. Michael was born Jan. 13, 1963, in Grosse Pointe Woods, the son of John and Margaret (Toma) Crison. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church Adrian. After graduating from Adrian High School with the Class of 1981, Michael attended the University of Michigan where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering. During college, he was active in the ROTC. Michael served his country in the Air Force, and was stationed in New Mexico and Los Angeles. Michael left the military as a Major and became the Director of the Satellite and Ground Systems Program for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Family and friends enjoyed Michael’s fun-loving, competitive nature.  He loved playing Risk and Axis & Allies with his family. A lover of the outdoors, he also spent time playing golf and fishing. Michael was a gifted pianist. A wonderful father, he took great joy in spending time with his kids. He was a great listener and always gave the best advice.  Michael is survived by his children, Erin (Jeremy Aungst) Crison, Jolie (Brittan) Masters, both of Grand Rapids; Katie Crison (Travis Appleton), Jacob Crison (Elizabeth Perez), Taylor Crison (Zachary Lacey), all of Adrian; their mother, Lorie Bostick of Adrian; his mother, Margaret Crison of Adrian; significant other, Jana Richards-Taylor of Virginia; sister, Betsy (Michael) Lackey of Adrian; brother, John “Bob” (Lucia Tin) Crison of San Diego, Calif.; and nephew, Andrew Carter (Sarah Jackson) of Adrian. He will also be greatly missed by many dear friends.  He was preceded in death by his father, John P. Crison. The service celebrating the life of Michael will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at the First Baptist Church in Adrian with the Rev. Geoff Koglin officiating. Burial will follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Park in Adrian with military honors conducted by VFW Annis-Fint Post #1584. Mildred L. Bowman, age 91 of Addison, passed away on Friday, Jan. 22, 2010 at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility in Hillsdale. She was born on Oct. 13, 1918, in Medina Township to Curtis H. and Theresa (Dillion) McKibbin.  She married Maxwell J. Bowman on Jan. 16, 1938, in Addison, and he preceded her in death on June 14, 1974. Mildred graduated from Addison High School in 1937.  She operated the former Bowman’s Bakery in Addison from 1938-1940 and then she worked at the Willow Run Bomber Plant in Ypsilanti.  She was a cook at Addison Hospital for 13 years, retiring in 1988.  She also was a homemaker all her life. Mildred was a member of the former Addison Methodist Church, member of the Addison Senior Citizens Center and the Carousel Club of Addison. Surviving are one son, Owen H. (Jane) Bowman of Addison, one daughter, Marlene (Paul) Gillespie of Dartown, Ohio, 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one sister, Juanita Jennings of North Adams, nephews, nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maxwell, one son, Dr, George E. Bowman, one daughter, Maxine Gerber and one brother, Charles McKibbin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison, with Pastor Will Snyder officiating.  Burial will take place in Dibble Cemetery, Wheatland Township.  Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today. Myrul Jean Davis Dew Myrul Jean Davis Dew, age 71, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2010, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill. A native of Birmingham, Ala., Mrs. Dew was a daughter of the late Claude Davis and the late Ida Mae Giles Davis. She was retired from Chrysler Motors, Sterling Stamping Plant in Sterling Heights, Mich. She was a member of Charlotte Avenue Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Ratcliff, Minnie Walker and Mary Esther Davis. Surviving are her husband, Eugene E. Married to Ronald for 45 years. Children, Denise Irwin, Susan (Michael) Banaszewski, Ronald (Tina) Irwin, and Cinthia (Kevin) McCleary. Loved by many surviving brothers and sisters. Raymond Earl Doelle Raymond Earl Doelle, 72, of Cape Coral, Fla., formerly of Clinton Township, Mich. passed away January 21, 2010. He was born July 16, 1937, in Detroit, Mich., the son of Albert and Margaret (Prong) Doelle. He was a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1269 in Harrison Township. He was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast. He enjoyed dancing with his beloved wife and playing cards. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Barbara Doelle of Cape Coral, Fla.; devoted daughter, Renee M. (Sean) Atkins of St. Clair Shores; brother, George (Darline) of Macomb Township; sister-in-law, Marge Morgan of Shelby Township; three grandchildren, Chloe Jane, Liam Patrick, and Carter Raymond; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Richard Carmen Young, age 81, of Three Rivers, passed away Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at the Howell Care Center, in Howell.  He was born on Sept. 7, 1928, in Vashti, N.D., a son of Ray and Mildred Young. Mr. Young had been a lifetime resident of this area.  He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He worked at a very young age for Huddleston Lumber Company and eventually retired as sales manager after 45 years.  He also worked at Camp Eberhart for 10 years following retirement, where he was known as “Uncle Dick”. Mr. Young was a life member of the Three Rivers Eagles, where he served as past president, and also the American Legion Hice-Shutes Post #170. He truly loved his family, friends,  and his two pets, Babies and Miss Bitzy. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving family, wife of 55 years, Joyce (Hull) Young of Three Rivers; two daughters, Patricia (John) Weatherwax, of Three Rivers and Judy (Jeff) Miller of Three Rivers; a son, Dennis (Kathy) Young of Three Rivers; a brother, Norris Young, of Omaha, Neb.; grandchildren Katrina (Scott) Norman, Miranda (Todd) Sylvester, Nicole Young, Meghan (John) Negus, Joshua German, Steven Higgins, Richard (Shannon) Mathews, William and James Mathews; several great-grandchildren; three nieces; and a nephew. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hohner Funeral Home in Three Rivers. Robert Clifford Kline Sr., age 86, of Mendon, died Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at Riverview Manor in Three Rivers, after a brief illness. He was born in Kalamazoo on March 13, 1923, a son of Otto D. and Ada Belle (Mumby) Kline.  Bob graduated from Mendon High School with the class of 1941, and was a Life Member of the Free and Accepted Masons Lodge #137 in Mendon. On March 23, 1949, he married Louise Anderson in Pontiac. She died in 1994.  Bob engaged in general farming for 12 years and was a heavy equipment operator for more than 35 years and was a member of Operating Engineers Local 324. He enjoyed fishing in his spare time.  On Jan. 17, 2000, Bob married Genevieve (Howes) Reed in Mendon.  She survives, along with two sons, Michael Kline of Three Rivers and Robert Kline Jr. of Wadell, Ariz.;  and three grandsons, Jason Kline, Brian Kline, and Michael Kline. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Maurice Kline Sr. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has been conducted. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Mendon United Methodist Church, with Pastor Ward Pierce officiating, followed by a gathering in the social room of the church.  A private interment will be held later in Mendon Cemetery. Robert F. Iott, 85, of Blissfield, formerly of Deerfield, was called to his eternal home on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010. Robert “Bob” Iott was born on Oct. 14, 1924, in Deerfield Township, to Bert and Sarah (Duval) Iott. He is survived by his loving wife, Marjory (Thompson), whom he married on Oct. 28, 1950, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Adrian. Bob was the founder of Iott Electric in Deerfield. He also was a partner in the Deerfield Coin Laundry and the Deerfield Car Wash.  Robert was a former member of Knights of Columbus, and a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Deerfield. Surviving are his Children: Andrew (Barbara) Iott, Stephen (Becky) Iott, Patrick (Christine) Iott, Rose (Wayne) Piotter of Deerfield, Rita (Eric) Coudron, Martha (Raymond Jr.) Pate of Adrian, Catherine (Dan) Maves of Tecumseh, Dorothy (William) Gainsley of Brooklyn, Dominique (Greg) Miller of Jackson, Joseph (Kelly) Iott of Milan, Phillip (Joyce) Iott of Troy, Barbara (William) Pohlman of Cooks, Matthew (Patricia) Iott of Rochester, Minn., Paul (Karen) Iott of San Jose, Calif.;  34 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three Sisters-in-law, Maureen Iott, Dorothy Clark and Patricia Opferman. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by sisters, Sr. Florian Iott O.P., Sr. Viola Iott O.P., Sr. Marie Ruth Iott O.P., Margaret (Joseph) Morrissey, Catherine (Gomer) DeCocker; brothers, Emil “Pete”(Stephanie) Iott, Orville “Rip” (Rita) Iott, John (Mary Ann) Iott and Herman Iott; a sister in infancy, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Deerfield. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Tagsold Funeral Home in Blissfield, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. A prayer service will be held Thursday evening at 8 p.m at the Tagsold Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery in Deerfield. Roger D. Eubanks, 87, of Reading Township, passed away Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at his home.  He was born Feb. 8, 1922 to Max and Connie Eubanks. He was married Jan. 1, 1948, to Rosemary Marazon and she survives. Roger was a CPA for Konopak and Dalton, and retired as an executive vice president, from People Savings & Loan in Toledo.  After taking a few years off, he accepted another savings and loan position with Peoples Savings & Loan in Temperance.  After retirement he purchased a laundromat in Jonesville and later opened Eubanks & Son Accounting Service, also in Jonesville. Surviving besides his wife Rosemary are two children, Connie (Dieter) Puska of Carmel, Ind. and Alan Eubanks of Louisiana; three grandchildren, Alysa, Josh and Cassie also survive. Ruth M. Bailey, age 87, of Britton in Ridgeway Township, passed away to be with her Lord on Feb. 1, 2010, at Herrick Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 14, 1922, in the home that her Grandpa Beasley built. Her parents were R. B. and Ethelwyn (Beasley) Kanous. On Nov. 28, 1941, Ruth married Paul J. Bailey, her high school sweetheart. They graduated together from Britton High School. Mrs. Bailey has been a resident of the Britton area most of her life, living on their farm since 1947, growing and preserving fruits and vegetables for her family. She also maintained beautiful flower gardens that were displayed throughout her home and shared with friends and her church. Ruth was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Britton.  Sharing her love of music, Ruth was a member of the choir, previously the organist, pianist and choir director. Ruth was a member of the U.M.W. of the church and was talented in making crafts for friends and the church bazaars. Ruth loved her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much, and was known as the Cookie Grandma, always having cookies available whenever they visited and, of course, everyone knew where the cookie jar was! Besides her husband, Paul, Ruth is survived by two daughters and one son, Diane (Bill) Brooks of Angola, Ind., Carol (Bill, deceased) Parias of Tecumseh and Troy (Debra) Bailey of Saline; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, four stepgreat-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Phillip; son, David Bailey of Saline; infant granddaughter, Deanna; two brothers, Kenneth Kanous of Tecumseh and Edward Kanous of Britton; four sisters, Dorothy Brablec of Roseville, Alice Herrick of Milan, Florence Simecek of Milan and Esther Allegrina of Ferndale. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 4, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 5, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Amy Mayo-Moyle of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Ridgeway Cemetery. Ruth requested memorial contributions be made to Grace United Methodist Church of Britton. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.handlerfuneralhomes.com. TRAVERSE CITY — Hellen Marie Woebbeking, of Traverse City, went to be with the Lord and Savior on Feb. 2, 2010, at Munson Medical Center. Hellen was born on June 3, 1936, to Fred and Retha Woebbeking in Grant Township, Mason County, Mich. She attended elementary school in a one-room school through the eighth grade and then went to Free Soil High School, where she graduated in 1954 as Valedictorian of her class. She also attended Muskegon School of Business and then spent her adult life in Traverse City. She retired from the Sara Lee Corporation, where she had worked for many years. Helen was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Doris.She is survived by her twin sister, Ellen Peck of Traverse City, Arlene Crofoot of Savannah, Ga., Ann Hasenbank and Betty Tripp of Free Soil; brother, Fred (Judy) Woebbeking of Tullahoma, Tenn.; her special nephew, Charles Woebbeking, with whom she shared her home; great-nephews, Jeremy Woebbeking and daughter, Jenaise, Justin (Sara) Woebbeking and son, Jake; and many other nieces and nephews.As per Hellen's wishes, she has been cremated, with her ashes being buried in Grant Township Cemetery, Mason County. There will be no services at this time. Vanetta “Van” M. Lucas, 92, of Coldwater, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010 at the Community Health Center of Branch County, Coldwater.  She was born Aug. 7, 1917, in Branch County to Bernie and Hattie (Munch) Mack. “Van” had been the owner/operator of Davis Marina and retired in 1975. She was a life member of the Coldwater Order of the Eastern Star, Moose Lodge Ladies Auxiliary and Community Health Center Auxiliary, as well as a volunteer at the hospital. She married Henry Davis and he preceded her in death in 1965. She then married Lawrence C. Lucas and he preceded her in death in 2004. She is survived by daughter Jeleah “Judy” (Patrick Grady) Michael of Coldwater, son Daniel (Skip) Davis of Coldwater, stepson Thomas M. (Sandy) Lucas of Orlando, Fla., three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. Cremation has taken place and there will be no service at this time. Memorials are suggested to the Community Health Center Volunteer Scholarship Fund, 274 E. Chicago Street, Coldwater, MI, 49036. Vincent H. Counterman, 69, of Portage, passed away Saturday evening, Jan. 30, 2010, at his residence. Vince was born April 14, 1940, in Paw Paw the son of Henry “Hank” and Marie (Oddi) Counterman. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. A graduate of Paw Paw H.S., Vince enjoyed playing all sports, especially track. In his early years he spent many hours working on the family fruit farm. The past 30 years Vince self-published a weekly newspaper in Charlotte, N.C. and Kalamazoo, most recently The Grapevine Weekly in Kalamazoo. He attended Centerpoint Church and enjoyed gardening, coffee with his friends, and golf. Vince was preceded in death by his former wife Shirley. On August 2, 1997, he was united in marriage to his loving wife, Lavonne, who survives and she cherished his love and devotion. Also surviving are his children, Rhonda (Donald) Stull, Randy (Terri) Counterman, Rick Counterman, Renee (Dan) Collins; step-children, Eric Henckel, Julie (Scott) Woodstock, Tammy (Chad) Mitchell; 11 grandchildren, Clay (Jessica) Stull, Alex (Melissa) Stull, Kaitlyn Stull, Emily Stull, Wyatt and Joey Counterman, Shaun and Abbey Woodstock, Ryan and Nathan Henckel, Wyatt Mitchell; one great-granddaughter, Norah Stull; sisters and brother, Sherry Campbell, Chuck Counterman, Bonnie (Roger) Fenstermaker; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ft. Custer National Cemetery (meet in assembly area at 10:50 a.m.). A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Centerpoint Church, 2345 N. 10th Street with Pastor Dar VanderWal officiating. Friends may meet the family Tuesday evening from 5-8 p.m. at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick.
