Geraldine Caroline Hollingsworth, 71, of Quincy, passed away Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010 at the Laurels of Coldwater.  She was born March 1, 1938 in Wayne County to William Donald and Loretta Viola (Raymer) McRae. A 1956 graduate of Belleville High School, she was employed a K-Mart for almost 20 years. Geraldine had been an active member of the Allen Pythian Sisters and also belonged to the Wednesday Night Bowling Combo in Coldwater. At one time, she was an active volunteer with the American Red Cross. Survivors include five children: Edith, Debra (Paul) Lindemann of Hillsdale, Raymond Hollingsworth of Allen, Kathryn (David) Stayner of Quincy and Kevin (Jodi) Hollingsworth of Coldwater; three sisters: Darlene Leavitt of Reading, Linda From of Lake Okeechobee, Fla. and Nancy Marson of Litchfield; three brothers: Lee McRae of Quincy, Allen McRae of Horton and Richard McRae of Reading, 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren Preceding her in death were her parents, sister Judith McRae and great-grandson Paul. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at the George White Funeral Home, Quincy, with Pastor Mark Elliott officiating. Interment will follow in the Allen Cemetery. James A. Mingus, age 88, of Burr Oak, Mich.,  passed away Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at Sturgis Hospital. He was born Jan. 26, 1922, in Hardin County, Ky., a son to the late James and Judith Mae (Cundiff) Mingus. On Sept. 11, 1947, in Kankakee, Ill., he married Beverly E. Keeslar.  She passed away Aug. 24, 2002. James moved to Burr Oak in June of 1955.  He was employed as a school teacher in public schools for 26 years.  He taught two years at the one room Culver School in Colon and was the 6th-grade teacher in Burr Oak for 24 years.  He then taught for six years at the Sturgis Christian School before retirement. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and was an active member of the Sturgis Church of the Nazarene and had been involved as Sunday School Superintendent, Financial Secretary, Usher, and in the Nazarene Caravan Scouting Program to name a few.  Surviving are one daughter, Naomi Mingus of Ladoga, Ind.; four sons, David (Peggy) Mingus of New Hope, MN, Mark (Crystal) Mingus of Sturgis, Mich., The Rev. Paul (Sherrlyn) Mingus of Richmond, Ind., and Joel (Diane) Mingus of Burr Oak, Mich; 13 Grandchildren, Justin, Melanie (Ben) Brown, Joel Jr. (Lauren), James, Timothy (Katie), Jonathon (Crystal), Rebekah, Joanna, Rachael, Leah (Justin) Beckett, Luke, Faith, and Caleb; four great-grandchildren: Benjamin Brown, Isadora Mingus, Aubriane Brown, and Tallulah Mingus; two brothers, Robert (Jeanette) Mingus and Philip (Carole) Mingus; two sisters, Tina (James) Woodall and Phyllis (William) Harris. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly, and two brothers, Edward Dean Mingus and Roy Mingus. The family will receive friends and relatives from 5- 8 p.m. Monday, at the Sturgis Church of the Nazarene, 70031 S. Lakeview Ave., Sturgis, MI 49091. Funeral Services celebrating the life of James Mingus will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, at the Sturgis Church of the Nazarene with The Rev. Paul A. Mingus and The Rev. John Shoup, officiating. On April 19, 1941, she married Frank Kish. He preceded her in death in 1997. Opal is survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John and Richard Hazzard; and four sisters, Clara Stutzman, Betty Mead, Ester Tipton and Hildreth Rasley. Opal Marie Bennison passed away Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010 at The Oaks at Northpoint Woods in Battle Creek. Opal was born Feb. 26, 1927 in Dayton, Ohio, daughter of Homer and Eva Priddy. She was one of five children, having two sisters and two brothers. Arthur, her husband of 56 years passed away in January 2008. Survivors are their six children: Linda (Tim) Cook of Battle Creek, James (Mary) Bennison of Kalamazoo, John (Tong) Bennison of Richland, Bruce Bennison of Battle Creek, Debra Contreras of Indiana and Steve Bennison of Albion. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Opal and Arthur were members of the Rayborn Memorial Seventh Day Adventist Church in Coldwater. Opal spent most of her life caring for others at hospitals, nursing homes, and private homes as a nurse’s aide. She enjoyed her family, friends, flowers, making crafts and fixing meals for anyone that came to visit. She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was always known for her kind and generous heart and would give anything she had to someone in need. The family would like to thank the staff of The Oaks for the many years of care and kindness during Opal’s stay there. Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010 from 2-4 p.m. at the Putnam Funeral Home in Coldwater. Robert L. Meyers, 80, of Blissfield passed away on Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at Bixby Medical Center in Adrian. Bob was born on March 12, 1929, in Blissfield, the son of Clarence and Marguerite (Reynolds) Meyers. On April 9, 1953, he married Marilyn Rothfuss. Bob was a 1947 graduate of Blissfield High School, served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean War and retired from Owens-Illinois in Toledo in 1987. Bob was a member of the Blissfield American Legion and VFW, and served on the Blissfield Fire Department for 23 years. In his free time, Bob enjoyed fishing and watching his children and grandchildren participate in sporting events. Bob is survived by his wife, Marilyn Meyers, of Blissfield; four children, Steve (Joni) Meyers of Adrian, Stephanie Hoagland of Palmyra, Shelley (John) Jordan of Blissfield and Stacy (Roger) Mitchell of Blissfield; two sisters, Fran (Bud) Bohs of Blissfield and Phyllis (Don) Maves of Oregon, Ohio; a brother, Kent (Holly) Meyers, of Oregon, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Craig, Todd and Ryan Meyers, Nicole (Jason) Giles, Neil Hoagland, Jr., Benjamin Hoagland, James (Tammy) Jordan, Lindsey (Randy) Gallup, and Alex and Grant Mitchell; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
