WHITFIELD, WILLIAM P.; 78. In a word, Bill Whitfield, known to those who loved him as "Willy," could most aptly be described as "free." His spiritual leanings tended toward the Eastern philosophy of Zen Buddhism and he counted Mickey Mouse as a personal hero. Never without a Mona Lisa smile, his tempered exuberance for the natural world and adventure in its realm plus a strong moral compass defined him as a man who existed as one part James Bond, two parts Thoreau, and a liberal dose of the late great Martin Luther King, Jr. |
