Alvera 'Trudy' Wessel Alvera "Trudy" Wessel, age 83, of Macomb Township, died February 20, 2010, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Mich. Mrs. Wessel and her husband lived and operated their family farm at 19 Mile and Schoenherr. She was a former member of St. Matthias Catholic Church. Mrs. Wessel was a private duty nurse for many years; she loved nursing, reading, and sewing. She is survived by her children, Harold (Cathy) Wessel, Jr. of Macomb, Steven (Maryann) Wessel of Macomb, Cynthia Woityra of Macomb, Veronica (Boris) Kocijan of West Virginia, Kathryn (Dave) Miller of Georgia; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Camille Rycerz. Barbara Ann Hall, nee Bensinger, 76, of Saint Joseph, Michigan died Wednesday night, February 25, at her home surrounded by family and friends. Barbara was a graduate of the Zeeland High School and attended Michigan State College.  She served in a leadership role for numerous community organizations such as the Krasl Art Center, First Congregational Church of Saint Joseph, Women's Fellowship at Church and Community Concerts.  She was also one of the founders of the Ala Carte Cooking School. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Willis and is survived by her son Jeffrey (Cynthia), her daughter Mary and grandsons Alexander (Lindsey) and Bartholomew. Visitation will be from 5PM to 7PM at Monday at Starks Menchinger Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St Joseph, Michigan 49085.  A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at the First Congregational Church, 2001 Niles Avenue, Saint Joseph, Michigan 49085 at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, March 2. She was born on Wednesday, March 12, 1930 in Detroit, MI, a daughter of the late William J. Salley and Charlotte Korte Salley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James R. Murphy; a daughter, Salley M. Graff; an infant daughter; a granddaughter, Shannon Kathleen Murphy; two brothers, Willard J. Salley and James P. Salley; a brother-in-law, Martin Green; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Green. She was a retired registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Mount Clemens, Mich. and was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church, where she was active in many church groups. Surviving are her sons, Patrick J. Murphy of Huddleston, Va., James W. Murphy of Moneta, Va.; her grandchildren, Timothy M. Dellis and wife, Ashley; Beth M. Bays and husband, Nolan, Patricia A. Gloria Yvonne (Matheny) Sessums, 55, of Hamilton, passed away at Hospice House Sunday, February 21, 2010, surrounded by friends and family. Gloria was born October 18, 1954 to Faye and Elvis Matheny in Paris, Tennessee. She graduated from Howell High School, Michigan Christian College, and attended Oklahoma Christian University. Gloria married Mark Sessums on May 29, 1976. She loved being a mother and enjoyed working at JoAnn Fabrics, Country Inn, Kirlin’s Hallmark, Party America, H&R Block, and Advanced Auto. She was preceded in death by her mother, Gloria Faye Matheny; and father-in-law, Henry Allen Sessums. She is survived by her husband, Mark Sessums; four children, Amber and Tim Mazeikis, Holland, Amy and Josh Hayes, Mountain View, CA, Brooke Sessums, Holland, Brett Sessums, Hamilton; four grandchildren, Jeremiah, Timberlyn,  Fiona Mazeikis, Alexander Bay; brother, David and Diane Matheny; father, Elvis and Joann Matheny; mother-in-law, Beulah Sessums; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gloria was a member of Lakeshore Church of Christ. During her 27-month battle with breast cancer, she never lost her sense of humor or concern for others. She enjoyed history, antiques, genealogy, travel, music, line dancing, bird watching, and reading. Gloria donated her body to MedCure and the American Cancer Society for research and education. Isabel M. Miller Isabel M. Miller, age 101, of New Baltimore died Friday, February 5, 2010. She was born August 2, 1908, in Mount Clemens to the late Joseph and Florence (Guiette) Miller. Ms. Miller was a teacher at Denby High School and later at Wayne State University. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from Marygrove College and her Master of Music degree from the Detroit Conservatory. A member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Mount Clemens, she was active with the Altar Society and was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Baltimore. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity. She enjoyed jewelry collecting and was active at the Village of East Harbor in their music programs. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and many friends. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, 95 Market, Mount Clemens. Peter August Schmaus Peter August Schmaus, age 60, of Macomb, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2010 at home. He was born September 9, 1949 in Detroit to August and Mabel Schmaus. After growing up in Berkley, Mr. Schmaus joined the U.S. Marine Corps, serving proudly during the Vietnam Conflict. He was an operating engineer for 35 years at Local 324 and a member of the American Legion. Mr. Schmaus was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a strong-willed man with a heart of gold who will be missed dearly by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Debbie, whom he married April 20, 1974 in Royal Oak; his children, Chad (Mandy) Schmaus of Chesterfield Township and Corey (Mark) Paraski of Eastpointe; siblings, Bobby (Terrie) Schmaus and Barb (Joe) Urbis; grandchildren, Olivia, Tanner, and Nola; and many loving nieces and nephews. Theodore George Kashouty Theodore George Kashouty of Leesburg, Florida died suddenly at his home on Friday, February 19, 2010. Ted was born on February 18, 1956, in Detroit, to Theodore and Mary (Farac) Kashouty. Raised in Roseville, he spent his youth playing sports with lifelong friends Rick DeLorme, Charlie Morris and Dave Brown. Having lived in many states, Ted loved the southern climate and finally settled in Florida in 2003. There he was the director of the Cardiac Cath Lab at Health Central Hospital in Ocoee. His co-workers met to honor his life and service at a memorial on February 21, 2010. Separated so often by distance, Ted always remained in touch and very dear to us all. He is remembered as easygoing, generous and loving, and will be forever missed. Ted is survived by his wife, Leah Smith-Kashouty; sisters, Kathryn (Patrick) Wilson and Karen (William) Taylor; nieces, Amy (Matthew) DesJardins, Jennifer Wilson, Julie (Douglas) Childerhose, Lori Wilson and Katy (Jason) Gill; and 11 great-nieces and -nephews. In addition to Fred and Shar Kashouty, Ted has many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who mourn his death. A memorial service will be held at the Grosse Pointe Unitarian Church, 17150 Maumee Ave., Grosse Pointe, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 27, 2010. |
