Joyce Soulliere Joyce Soulliere, age 73, of Macomb Township, died in her home on February 21, 2010. Joyce was born February 15, 1937, to Harold and Ursula (nee Myers) Dickson in Detroit. Joyce was a 1955 graduate of Warren High School. On June 23, 1956, Joyce married Ronald E. Soulliere in Warren. Joyce and her family are the owners of Bellow Woods Golf Course in Macomb Township. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Macomb and a member of the N.R.A. Joyce loved spending time with her family and friends and enjoyed her dog, Sammy, singing and playing the organ. Surviving are her children, Kirk (Candace) Soulliere of Romeo, Jeffrey (Barbara) Soulliere of Romeo, Todd (Christine Beels) Soulliere of Armada and Janet (Denise Sargent) Schrade of Chesterfield; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Kevin Lee Malone, 49, of Burr Oak, Mich., passed away Saturday evening, Feb. 20, 2010, at the Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, Mich. He was born Sept. 17, 1960, Des Moines, Iowa, a son of Sheldon W. and Jackie (Johnson) Malone. Kevin was a lifelong resident of Burr Oak and graduated from Burr Oak High School with the class of 1979. He had been employed by Burr Aluminum, Victor Screw Products and Tube Fabricators all in Burr Oak. He was attending the Celebration Community Church in Sturgis. Kevin enjoyed playing darts and collecting hats. He loved spending time and playing with his many nieces and nephews and babysat each one of them over the years. He is survived by his mother; Jackie Malone of Burr Oak; one brother, Ken (Suzanne) Malone of Sturgis; two sisters, Karen and Kelly (Dan) Fitzgerald of Constantine; 10 nieces and nephews, Michael, Daniel, Megan, Tiffany, Halen, Joey, Zack, Brady, Angie and Kieran; great-nieces and nephews, Kaden, Lane and Kenadie and his honorary siblings, Sue and Brian Winchester of Mendon and their daughter, Samantha. Marian M. Davenport, age 91, of Mendon, died Sunday Feb. 21, 2010, at Riverview Manor in Three Rivers.  She was born Jan 27, 1919, in Vicksburg, a daughter of John and Edith (Brockway) Scofield, and was a lifetime resident of the area.  She attended the Brady #5 School and graduated from Vicksburg High School.  Marian married Lester Davenport on Dec. 21, 1938, in Cassopolis.  They were later divorced.  Marian worked at National Carbon Coated and Trans-O-Gram in Sturgis; The Point Lunch in Leonidas; Research Molding and Voss Pharmacy in Mendon.  She was a member of the Leonidas Grange #266; the Pomona Grange; the State and National Grange; and the Michigan Fiddler’s Association. Marian is survived by three children, Rita Long of Colon, Jane Sanderson of Mendon, and Dan (Claudia) Davenport of Bronson;  nine grandchildren, Bob (Deb) Long, Cheryl Collins, Debbie (John) Smith, Doug (Marilyn) Sanderson, Deanna (Alan) Martin, Dan (Bambi) Sanderson, Jonathan Davenport, Angela Neubaur, and David Davenport;  11 great-grandchildren;  two great-great-grandchildren, Savanah Meyers and Cedric Berman; and a brother, Mahlon (Darlene) Scofield of Colon.  She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mabel Sells; a brother, Merton Scofield; and a grandson, David Sanderson. Marilyn graduated from Coldwater High School in 1955. On June 11, 1955, she married Meriln L. “Dutch” Chatfield Sr. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, “Dutch” of Sun City West, Ariz.; two children Noreen (Chatfield) Lyon of Surprise, Ariz. and Merlin L. Chatfield, Jr. of Coldwater; two sisters Jessie Mayo and Virginia Ferguson; and one brother James Swope. She was the proud grandmother of Jennifer, Timothy, Jason, David, Trinity and Dustin and nine great-grandchildren. Marjorie J. Fisher married Dr. James S. Clapperton, II on May 3, 1947, in Saginaw. He died June 10, 1978. Marge assisted her husband with his medical practices in Fairgrove and then when they came to Coleman in 1950, until retiring in 1975. She spent 20 years summering in St. Ignace, working with her son, James, at the North Bay Inn and the Tradewinds Motel. |

Norman T. “Ted” Barron, 53, of Marshall, passed away Monday, Feb. 15, 2010 at Oaklawn Hospital, Marshall. Born May 20, 1956 in Morenci, he was the son of Walter and Helen (Chaffner) Barron Jr. Ted attended the Tecumseh schools and enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding motorcycles and camping. On Sept. 9, 1975, he married Tamela Sue (Chippewa), and she preceded him in death in 2001. Ted’s father also preceded him in death. Survivors include one daughter, Mandy Barron, of Montgomery; two sons, Matthew (Abbey) Barron, of Hillsdale, and Norman Barron of Hillsdale; his mother, Helen Barron of Montgomery; three brothers, Stan (Cathy) Barron of Adrian, Steve Barron of Tecumseh and Richard Barron of Montgomery; four grandchildren, Courtney Wert, Austin Duby, Aidan Coombs and Norman Barron III. Funeral services will be held noon Thursday at the George White Funeral Home in Reading with Pastor Don Lee officiating. Interment will follow in Cambria Cemetery No. 2. Ollie Prater, 72, of Litchfield, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at the Hillsdale Community Health Center. He was born March 11, 1937, in Salyersville, Ky. to Nelvin and Rosetta (Bolden) Prater. Ollie belonged to the Albion Moose and Eagles Lodges and enjoyed leisure time sitting in the park, playing pool and gambling. Survivors include two daughters, Rosetta (Gary) Wickham of Georgia and Pamela Engle of Midland; one stepson, Dallas (Tina) Bumpus of Jonesville; 15 grandchildren, including Mike (Kari) Prater of Litchfield and Amy (Steve) Cain of Hillsdale; 11 great-grandchildren, including Gage Cain of Hillsdale and Mason Prater of Litchfield; one sister, Peachy Hall of Albion; one brother, Ovie Prater of Marshall and former wife, Arlene Engle of Jonesville. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Chuck and Paul Prater. Cremation has taken place and interment will be at a later date. Patricia A. Massey, 71, of Quincy, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2010 at her residence. Patricia was born July 26, 1938 in Battle Creek, to Lorenzo and Audrey (Fritz) Hurd. She married Dale W. Massey Nov. 4, 1963 in Battle Creek. Patricia graduated from Bronson Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Kalamazoo in 1959 and worked there for awhile. She was a RN for 44 years and worked at the Community Health Center of Branch County and for several doctor’s offices in the area. She enjoyed farming and camping. Survivors include husband Dale; son Todd (Dia) Massey of Quincy; grandchildren Jacob, Tyler and Ethan, all at home; sister Nancy Boruta; and nieces and nephews Shelly, Leslie and Greg Godde. Ray “Tut” Hall, 78, of Coldwater passed away Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, at the Community Health Center of Branch County in Coldwater. He was born on March 21, 1931, in Riga, the son of Clyde and Sylvia (Livingston) Hall. On March 24, 1951, in Morenci, he married Betty Simpkins, and she survives. Tut was a truck driver for many years, retiring from USF Holland Trucking in 1994. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 through 1953 during the Korean War. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, the Morenci American Legion Post #368 and the Morenci Eagles Aerie #1297. Tut enjoyed his grandchildren, NASCAR racing and fishing. Besides his wife, Betty, Tut is survived by a daughter, Jeanne Rae Dietrich of Morenci; three sons, Terry Hall of Bay City, Kevin (Laura) Hall of Morenci and Tracy Hall of Osseo; three grandchildren, Lenna (Pat) McCaskey, Brock (Kate) Dietrich and Jediah Hall; four great-grandchildren, Mia and Ella Dietrich and Camden and Beckett McCaskey; one sister, Wanda (Carl) Kruse of Morenci; one brother, Roy (Fern) Hall of Waldron; and special friends, Luella Rutan and family. Tut was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert Hall. Funeral service will be on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci with the Rev. William VanValkenburg officiating. Raymond L. Leeper, age 77, of Burr Oak, loving husband of Dorothy Leeper, passed away Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at Sturgis Hospital. He was born Feb. 28, 1932, in Chicago, a son to the late Charles and Edna (Smock) Leeper. Raymond has been a resident of Burr Oak since 1994, previously living in Chesterton, Ind.,  for 17 years and prior to that in Portage, Ind., for 40 years. On Nov. 22, 1972, in Burr Oak he married Dorothy King. He was a retired member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers. Some of the popular construction projects he was involved in were the McCormick Place, White Sox Park, both in Chicago, and Oprah Winfrey’s home in Rolling Prairie, Ind. Raymond enjoyed his work and during his retirement enjoyed fishing, golfing, and playing cards. Raymond was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post 260, the V.F.W. Post, and past member of the Moose all in Portage, Ind. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; son, Dennis Leeper; daughter, Debra Leeper; five step-children, Antionette Hart (Bill Basham) of Sturgis, Edward (Pam) Strudas, Myrtle (Curt) Zehner, and Michael Strudas, all of Chesterton, Ind., and Jeanne (Dennis) Root of Sturgis; step-grandchildren, Raychael (Joe) Schmidt, Ricky (Julie) Hart, Amber (Dennis) Wendling, Amy Zehner, Edward Strudas III, Mark Strudas, Emily Strudas, Michael (Tara) Strudas, Kera Strudas, Jena Root, Cass Root, and Cole Root; two step-great-grandchildren, Kaeden and Brooklynn; three brothers, Harvey (Dorothy) Leeper, Robert (Mary) Leeper, Larry (Ruth) Leeper, all of Portage, Ind.; one sister, Delores Rich of Dallas, Ore.; and several nieces and nephews. Robert O. Widdel, 84, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away early Saturday morning, Feb. 20, 2010, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis. He was born Jan. 1, 1926, in Crown Point, Ind., a son of the late Otto Martin and Cora Louise (Blume) Widdel. Bob had resided in Sturgis since 1945 coming from Indiana. On Oct. 19, 1947, he married Betty Templin in Sturgis. Bob had owned and operated Central Meat Market in Sturgis for over 50 years until his retirement in 2002. He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis where he had served as an usher for many years and had also served on numerous church boards and committees. He enjoyed playing golf, and cards and being outdoors mowing grass and cutting wood. He truly loved his home on the lake where his friends and the friends of his son, daughter and grandchildren were always welcome. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 62 years, Betty; one daughter, Sue (Clint) Rangler of Sturgis; daughter-in-law, Vickie Widdel of Sturgis; granddaughter, Kara (Rob) Falkenstein of Sturgis; great-grandchildren, Seth Falkenstein and Hannah Falkenstein; one sister, Florence (Bob) Waggoner of DeMotte, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews. Robert S. Fennell, age 81, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Wednesday morning, Feb. 17, 2010, at his home following a hard fought battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 3, 1929, in Sturgis, Mich., a son to the late Frank and Alma (Adams) Fennell. Bob was a lifelong resident of Sturgis. On May 28, 1952, he married Phyllis Coombs in Sturgis. He was a dedicated employee of G.F. Business Forms in Sturgis for 25 years until the business closed. He retired from Rood Industries also in Sturgis. He enjoyed playing Euchre, yard work and flower and vegetable gardening and was one to never pass up a bowl of ice cream. In 1990 he received the Sturgis Exchange Club Keep Sturgis Beautiful Award. Bob had an extensive collection of steins and beer memorabilia and signs. He had a true appreciation for animals and enjoyed watching birds and always had pets in his home. Mr. Fennell’s family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Hospice of Sturgis for the outstanding care that Bob received and the support that they also received. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 57, Phyllis; one daughter, Judy (Charles) Benton of Colon; one grandson, Brian Robert Benton of Colon; three step-grandchildren, his Poodle Tinkerbell; and several nieces and nephews. Ronald C. Mesarosh Sr., age 65, of North Adams, passed away Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Hillsdale County. He was born June 19, 1944 in Detroit, the son of Adam Sr. and Francis (Moore) Mesarosh. He married Virginia Ann (Butler) Mesarosh on Sept. 17, 1966,  and she preceded him in death on Aug. 2, 2006. He was also preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by three sons, Ronn (Denise) Mesarosh, Rodney Mesarosh and Brian (Missey) Mesarosh; one daughter, Gina Semmler; 12 grandchildren: Kendra, Colt, Andrea, Britt, Gretta, Grayson, Char, Pressly, Quade, Lennon, Kayle and Lincoln and two brothers, Adam, Jr. (Claudia) Mesarosh and Bruce (Michelle) Mesarosh.    Mr. Mesarosh served his country for six years through the National Guard. He worked at Hillsdale Tool for 26 years and retired to move on to start the Eden Alternative at Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility which he considered to be one of his life’s greatest achievements.    A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Ronald C. Mesarosh Sr., will be held at the Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home in Hillsdale on Thursday beginning at 1 p.m. with Pastor Daniel E. Pann officiating. Ruby C. Jordan, age 92, of Adrian died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at Lenawee Medical Care Facility. She was born Feb. 18, 1918, in Weikle, W.Va., to Lundy and Lucie (McMillion) Miller. She was married to Carl Jordan on March 3, 1934, in Mt. Hope, W.Va. Ruby lived in Oak Hill, W.Va., for 34 years and then moved to Adrian where she has lived ever since. Ruby was a wonderful mother and loved dearly by all her children and will be sadly missed. She was a very kind, loving, and thoughtful neighbor and friend. She was a member of the Bethany Assembly of God Church and the 50-Plus Group at Bethany. She was former member of Bethel Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and was the past president of the Women’s Missionary Union. She also served as the past president of the Woman’s Christian Temperence Union. Ruby enjoyed gardening, flowers and writing letters. Ruby is survived by one son, Richard E. (Bonnie) Jordan of Onsted; three daughters, Norma Roe of Adrian, Rita Brown of Sand Creek and Lucie (James) McNeil of Adrian; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in October of 2000; three brothers, four sisters, one grandson, and one son-in-law, Roy Roe. Shirley J. Mallery, 84, of Hillsdale, passed away Monday, Feb. 15, 2010 at the Hillsdale Community Health Center. She was born May 20, 1925 in Cambria, the daughter of Ramon and Carrie (Moore) Franks. Shirley graduated from Osseo High School in 1945 and had worked at the A&P Store and Oslo Restaurant. She belonged to Bankers Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, the Hillsdale Art Guild, Hillsdale County Extension Club, and she was a leader in 4-H Clubs, Cub Scouts and Camp Fire Girls. Shirley also enjoyed painting, gardening, canning and reading. On Feb. 16, 1946, she married Robert T. Mallery, and he preceded her in death in 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter (Erin Keefer). Survivors include: two daughters, Sandy (Charles) Keefer of Hillsdale and Ronda Hoover of Hillsdale; one son, Steve (Yvonne) Mallery of Vermont; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Bankers Baptist Church with Pastors Daniel Davis and Harvey Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Bankers Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the George White Funeral Home in Reading. Memorials are suggested to the Bankers Baptist Church.   |

Shirley R. Jablonski Shirley R. Jablonski (nee Hutchinson), (aka Shirley R. Jay), age 78, owner of Carriage Services Inc. and beloved wife of Clifford Anthony Jablonski, (aka Cliff Jay), owner of Carriage Services, Inc., died Sunday, February 21, 2010. Dear mother of Linda Keck (Thomas), Donald Hutchinson (Suzanne), Richard Hutchinson (Alla), dear sister of Beverly Hansen (Donald). Seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive. Clifford Anthony is the eldest grandchild of the late Lillian and Anthony Wujek, founders of the Wujek Funeral Home, 1432 East Canfield, Detroit, Michigan. Visitation will be from noon-9 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at the Wessels and Wilk Funeral Home, 23690 Woodward Avenue at Woodward Heights Boulevard, Pleasant Ridge, Mich., 48069, (248) 543-0100. Service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with visitation with the family continuing until 9 p.m. Burial will be at Hart Cemetery, Hart, Michigan in the Spring. Shirley will be greatly missed by her "kids" Misty and Princess along with all her bowling friends. She loved to do crosswords, gardening and cooking. Her potato salad was world famous. Thomas John Adams, 79, of Midland, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at his home. Tom was born Dec. 20, 1930, in Lansing, to the late Henry and Agnes M. (Zarembo) Adams. He attended Lansing schools and graduated from DeVry Technical Institute with a degree in electronics. He served in the United States Air Force for six years. Tom was employed by the Burroughs Corporation as a computer systems engineer. Later he worked as a computer systems analyst at The Dow Chemical Company. He retired in 1988. His favorite retirement activities were spending time with his grandchildren, playing golf and watching the Berryhilll American Legion baseball team. |

William Christian Polkow, 80, died Feb. 15, 2010 in Colorado Springs, Colo. He was born March 12, 1929 in Detroit to Margaret and August Christian Polkow. He graduated from General Motors Institute in Flint with a master’s in engineering. He was an executive for General Electric for many years, lived in Kuwait while he ran Kirby Building Systems, was an engineer consultant in China and during his retirement co-founded Innovative Scuba Concepts, currently owned by his two sons. He married the former Eileen Parker, his true love, and they have been happily married for 59 years. He will be missed dearly by his devoted wife; three loving sons, Steve Polkow, Gary Polkow, and Jon Polkow; two daughters-in-law, Yvonne Polkow and Sheila Polkow; five wonderful grandchildren, Senora Polkow, Ferron Polkow, Kael Polkow, Dylan Polkow and Michael Polkow. His oldest brother, Jim Polkow, lives in Tucson, Ariz. and his younger brother, Bob Polkow, preceded him in death. Bill is fondly remembered as a devoted family man. His wife and sons were his most valued treasures and the most important part of his life. He was a kind and loving man and took great pleasure in his grandchildren and loved his family unconditionally. A memorial service will be held with family and friends at the Chapel in Holy Apostles Church, 4925 N. Carefree Circle, Colorado Springs, Colo. at 11 a.m. Monday.
