Arline I. Morris Holt Age 93, passed away July 15, 2010. She was born November 28, 1916, in Lansing, the daughter of E.B. and Hazel Page. Arline was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Morris; Mother, Hazel Page; and sister, Elaine Kuntas. Surviving are: 3 children, Nancy (Ted) Kingsley, Rebecca (Neil) Clark and Richard (Pat) Morris; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; special friend, Trudy Longazel; and caregivers, Debbie and Joan, as well as many others. The family wishes to express a special "thank you" to the staffs of Hospice Advantage and Mother Teresa House for their compassionate care. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 23, 2010, at Olivet Baptist Church, 5455 W. Willoughby Road, Holt. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday. Barry Ivie, age 58, of Mendon, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at his home following a battle with cancer. He was born Dec. 9, 1951, in East Prairie, Mo., a son of  Ralph and Dema (Lane) Ivie. Barry graduated from East Prairie High School in 1970. On May 18, 1987, he married Debbie Douglas in Three Rivers. Barry worked as a manufacturing technician at American Axle in Three Rivers for 28 years, retiring in 2008. He was a member of the Three Rivers Eagles and enjoyed fishing and boating. He will always be remembered for his skills on the grill as “Barry’s BBQ.” Surviving are his father Ralph (Carol) Ivie of Goldsboro, N.C.; his wife, Debbie Ivie, of Mendon; daughters Shylia (George) Leonard of Three Rivers and Keri (Eric) Roe of Athens; sons Joey Ivie of Joplin, Mo., and Gregory (Brenda) Ivie of East Prairie; sisters Vicky (John) Farmer, Dawn Carr and Kelly (Branden) Besecker; grandchildren Cody, JT, Drew, Quincy, Chelsea, Jamie, Dallas, Allison and Savannah Ivie, Shyanna and James Butcher, Gracie Leonard, and Sarah, Katelynn and Emma Roe; and great-granddaughter, Ivy Grace York. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dema Ivie; a son, Jamie Ivie; and a granddaughter, Chrissy. Relatives and friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Eley Funeral Home in Centreville, where religious services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. Basil J. Magner, 85, of Coldwater, died on Friday, July 16, 2010 surrounded by his family at the Laurels of Coldwater. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor David Anderson officiating. The family will receive visitors for from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bronson. Basil was born on March 1, 1925 in Branch County and has lived in the area all of his life. He married Pearl Gigowski on Oct. 6, 1951 in Bronson. She preceded him in death in Nov. 2008. Basil had worked at the Midwest Foundry in Coldwater for 37 years, retiring in 1987. Basil always had a good sense of humor. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening, feeding the birds and collecting and polishing rocks that he had found through the years. Mr. Magner is survived by his son Gary (Wanda) Magner of Union City, daughter Carol (Curtis) Blowers of Burlington, grandsons Chad Blowers of Holt and Clint Blowers of Philadelphia, Pa., sister-in-law Josephine Tucker of Coldwater and his cat and constant companion, Sassafras. In addition to his wife, Basil was also preceded in death by his parents William and Mary Magner. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Humane Society of Branch County. Bernard L. Meyers, age 79, of Cheboygan, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Cheboygan Memorial Hospital. He was born April 25, 1931 in Cheboygan to August and Emma (Knaffle) Meyers. On November 15, 1960 in Cheboygan, Bernard married Catherine Hudson. Bernard served his country honorably with the United States Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He worked for Cheboygan Manufacturing Company and retired as a foreman after more than 25 years of service. He was a member of the Cheboygan Eagles and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and small engine repair. Survivors include two children, Linda K. Meyers and David (Ronda) Meyers; and two grandchildren, Kari M. Meyers and Ryan D. Meyers and his ex-wife, Catherine Russell, all of Cheboygan. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Elmer and Jerry. As per Bernard’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time. Carl E. Caseman, age 69, of rural Burr Oak, passed away Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at his home. Carl was born Sept. 14, 1940, in Constantine, a son to the late Lloyd C. and Marian (Dimmick) Caseman. Carl graduated from Constantine High School with the class of 1958 and later served in the U.S. National Guard. On June 4, 1966, he married Patricia Lee Jensen which ended in divorce. He later married Carolyn Price which also ended in divorce. On Aug. 24, 1982, he married Ruth German in Centreville. Carl had lived most of his life in Constantine moving to his home on Long Lake in 1986. He had owned and operated Caseman Marathon Gas station in Constantine for four years.  He had been employed as a brick layer at BAC. Local 9 of Kalamazoo and also had been employed by Bracy and Jarhr of Quincy.  Carl was owner, president and C.E.O. of Caseman Motor Car Co. of Burr Oak. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Caseman of Burr Oak; daughter, Melissa Sandker of Sturgis; two step-sons, Ronald German Jr. of Key West, Fla., and Brian German of Burr Oak; three grandchildren, Justin and August Adams of Colorado and Clarissa Sandker of Sturgis; step grandson, Trent German of LaGrange, Ind.; brother, Danny (Dana) Caseman of Altha, Fla.; three sisters, Nancy (Jerry) Preston, Bonnie Caseman and Sandra (Dennis) Blodgett, all of Sturgis; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sons, Charles and Jeffrey Caseman; and one brother, Howard Caseman. Charles W. Pierson, 67, of Ruskin, Fla., and a former resident of Sturgis and graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1960, passed away Friday July 9, 2010, at his home. He was born Sept. 22, 1942, a son of Charles Ward and Rama (Shafer) Pierson. Chuck was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. He was a life member of the Marine Corps League, Vietnam Veterans Association of America and the VFW. He was also a pedigreed Devil Dog, an avid hunter, member of the Safari Club International and an avid proponent of the Boy Scouts of America. On Oct. 28, 1967, he married Arlene Wisler. He is survived by his wife, Arlene; two sons, Charles “Alex” Pierson of Indianapolis and Justin R. Pierson of Knoxville, Tenn.; one daughter, Tiffany F. (Andrew) Cline, stationed in Japan; four grandsons, Keegan R., Charles A. (Xander), Liam K. Pierson and Tyler K. Cline; his mother; and a brother, Eric F. Pierson. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Charlotte Ann Nardizzi, 85, of Indian River, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2010 at the Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey. Charlotte was born August 12, 1924 in Grand Traverse County. She was the daughter of Carl and Elizabeth (Tompkins) Oatley. She grew up on Old Mission Point and as a young girl her family moved to Traverse City. Charlotte graduated from Traverse City High School in 1942. On May 7, 1944 she married Pasquale (Pat) Nardizzi in Traverse City. Throughout the years, the Nardizzi family has lived in Hale and Benzonia, Mich. They settled in Indian River in 1961 where they have been since. Charlotte and Pat enjoyed spending their winters in North Carolina. Charlotte enjoyed crafts, cooking and playing cards. She was an active member of the Indian River United Methodist Church as well as the United Methodist Women. She was a past president of the Cochran-Roberts V.F.W. Post Auxiliary and past worthy matron of the Primrose Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Indian River. She is survived by her husband, Pat; children, Rose E. (Charles) Marks of Flint, Mich., Pasquale (Nancy) Nardizzi, Jr. of Indian River, Mario L. Nardizzi of Indian River; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; siblings, Carl (Inez) Oatley of Williamsburg, Mich., Jack Oatley of North Fort Meyers, Florida, Virginia (Virgil) Ritondale of Tennessee, Richard (Helen) Oatley of Traverse City, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by her infant grandson, Justin, and her sister, Doris. Cheryl was born May 23, 1955, in LaGrange, Ind., to Eugene and June (Kaestner) Cattell. On Aug. 26, 1995, Cheryl gave Dennis Rubley her unconditional love and the two forever became one in marriage. Mrs. Rubley graduated from Prairie Heights High School and earned her associates degree from the International Business College of Fort Wayne, Ind. She had worked at the Herald Republican Newspaper in Angola, Infinisource and Indiana Wire. Cheryl was a member of Heartland Fellowship Church in Orland and had also attended Lake Bethel Mennonite Church. She enjoyed plastic canvas cross-stitch, reading and interior decorating. Cheryl volunteered with the Literacy Council, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially Dennis, and her dogs. Cheryl is survived by her husband, Dennis; her mother, June Cattell of LaGrange; her four-legged kids, P. Nutt and Shannon Wildfire Rubley III; a brother Marlin (Reba) Cattell of Howe; a brother-in-law, David (Del) Rubley of Coldwater; a nephew, Jason Rubley of New Jersey; a niece, Gretchen (Eric) Leese of Chicago; great-nephews Nicholas and Michael Leese; aunts Hazel Murphy of Allentown, Pa., Viola Cattell of Elkhart, Ind., and Doris Zarnnow of Chandler, Ariz.; and many cousins. David was an accomplished author and speaker to global audiences on ethics in business and appeared on numerous nationally syndicated programs.  David’s leadership was especially notable for emphasizing the following priorities; “Faith in God, family, business” … in this order. With strong faith and promoting an ethics based culture, David followed his father’s desire to globalize the company, most recently opening a manufacturing facility with multiple sales offices throughout the Indian subcontinent. David is survived by his wife of 32 years, Yvonne; sons Chad, and Kurt and his wife, Mandy; father, Merrill and his wife, Sharon; grandmother, Annie Grover; sister, Tamara Bloss, and her husband, Douglas; and brother Patrick and his wife, Nicole. David was active in his community at Sailfish Point and was the former president of the Sailfish Point Golf Club. A private family burial service will be held Wednesday at McCormick and Son funeral home, 1795 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach. A “Celebration of Life” service will be held at 10 a.m. July 30 at Armstrong International, Three Rivers,  with lunch served after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations go to the Church by the Sea,  468 Legion Street, Laguna Beach, CA 92651; or the Armstrong Foundation, 2081 SE Ocean Blvd., Stuart, FL  34996. Dean Scott Bailey, son of Shirley Bailey and the late M.G. Bailey, was born March 6, 1951 in Coldwater. He died at home on Wednesday, July 14, 2010. He married Dana Rachlin in 1987 at the Boulders in Carefree, Ariz. He was a multi-engine rated and a glider pilot. At one time, he was a bush pilot in Alaska and a big game guide in Montana. He had also worked at Chicago Mercantile Exchange and later operated Bailey Farm until retirement due to illness. He had attended KVCC and KCC. He spent many hours working to maintain his pride and joy, a 1959 Mercedes Benz convertible. He is survived by his wife Dana of 23 years, his mother Shirley, sisters Marece Hutchison and Genelle (John) Welch of Coldwater, a sister-in-law Michale Rachlin of Florida, nieces and nephews Kyle (Mandy) Hutchison of Alaska, Jenna (Derek) Mathieu of Kalamazoo, Evan (Courtney) Hutchison of Sturgis, Asher and Marissa Welch of Coldwater, cousins Karma (Rick) Weiers of S. Carolina, Rich Thomas of Sidney, Ryan (Sarah) Weiers of N. Carolina, Great nieces and nephews Blake Mathieu, Paityn Modert, Asher and Maren Weiers, Franz and Jack Rachlin. Donald E. Smoker, 60, of Howe, Ind., died unexpectedly Friday, July 9, 2010, at his home. He was a 1967 Sturgis High School graduate who excelled in Athletics. He was a Navy veteran who served his country during the Vietnam War. Donald retired from Ross Labs in Sturgis, where he worked in the shipping and receiving department. He was a past deacon of the Lima Presbyterian Church in Howe, supported the Disabled American Veterans and was an avid Notre Dame fan. He was born July 27, 1949, in Battle Creek, a son of Donald F. and Patricia A. (Stewart) Smoker. On May 24, 1969, he married Julie Thomae at the Lima Presbyterian Church in Howe. She survives in Howe. Also surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Chris Smoker of Howe and Matt and Alexis Smoker of Sturgis; a granddaughter (who was the love of his life) Rachel Olivia Smoker; and a brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Kelly Smoker of Lima, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Terry Smoker. According to his wishes, cremation will take place. Edna A. Gillan, 97, of Burr Oak,  passed away Thursday afternoon, July 15, 2010, at her home. She was born June 5, 1913,  in Sturgis, a daughter of the late Ernest and Angeline (Hunt-Gilbo) Beers. Edna had resided in the Sturgis and Burr Oak area nearly her whole life. On Oct. 23, 1930, she married Clarence E. “Jack” Gillan in LaGrange, Ind. He died Nov. 27, 1990. Edna was proud to be a farm wife and homemaker. She was a member of the Sturgis Missionary Church and enjoyed crossword puzzles, crocheting and reading and loved the game Aggravation. She was an avid reader and had a library in her home of more than 800 books. She will be remembered and admired by many for the active life she lived and her ability to live alone in her home until her death at the age of 97. She is survived by a brother, Chester “Chuck” Beers of Sturgis; nieces Lola (Floyd) Hodges of Sturgis, Lois Sites of Wolcottville, Ind., Marilyn “Mary Jo” Burton of Missouri, Suzanne (Robert) Jordan of LaGrange, Ind., Donna (Robert) Hagen of Sturgis, Lelah Palmer of Sturgis, Caryl Thompson of Florida and Colleen Perry of Sturgis; and many great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Lana Bell Beers, Myrtle Leiler and Gladys Parsons; and three brothers, Cecil Beers, Clarence Gilbo and Walter Gilbo. He was born on Oct. 17, 1914, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Harry P. and Hazel (Patterson) Vischer, Sr. He graduated from Whitmer High School in Toledo where he met his future wife, DeNell Meyers. They married Feb. 18, 1938, in Toledo. She preceded him in death on April 7, 1995. Harold graduated from University of Toledo with a Business Administration Degree. He worked as a Vice President of Sales at Firestone in Akron, Ohio, for more than 20 years, and then more than 20 years at Bandag Inc. in Muscatine, Iowa. Harold moved to Brooklyn in 1980. He was a charter member of the Irish Hills Community Church and a member of the Gideons for more than 40 years. Harold enjoyed gardening and loved his time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.   Surviving Harold are his three sons, Harold (Chris) Vischer, Jr. of Brooklyn, Robert (Janice) Vischer of Jackson and Michael (Debbi) Vischer of Brooklyn; two girls they raised as daughters, Jackie (John) Matthews of Minneapolis and Cynthia (George) Harvey of Los Angeles; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren of whom he was very proud; sister, Betty Toedter of Toledo; brother, Harry Vischer, Jr. of Leoni; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and sister, Eleanor Brillhart. James A. Fairchild, 89, of Three Rivers, passed away Friday, July 9, 2010, at Three Rivers Health. He was born April 6, 1921, on the family farm in Florence Township, a son of Ernest and Florence M. (Kelley) Fairchild. On May 20, 1948, he married Thelma Weber at the Centreville Presbyterian Church. Jim worked and operated the family farm until he retired in 1985. He also worked as a Three Rivers Hospital attendant. Jim was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Three Rivers/Centreville, where he worked at one time or another on each board. He served on the Lockport Township Board  for 22 yrs, 13 as its treasurer; the Lockport-Fabius Park Fire Board  for 17 years; and the Agricultural Stabilization Committee for more than 20 years. Jim was a St. Joseph Farm Bureau lifetime member, and Junior Farm Bureau and St. Joseph County 4-H leader. Jim also served on the Gov. G. Mennon Williams Agricultural Advisory Board. Surviving Jim are his wife, Thelma Fairchild; daughters Carla Jean (Will) McDonald of Bennettsville,  S.C., and Louann (Lee) Bitely of Bitely; son Charles Fairchild of Sturgis; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister Lola Musser of Portage.   He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister Kathleen Fairchild. Relatives and friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Eley Funeral Home in Centreville, where religious services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with Pastor Marilyn Schlimgen, First Congregational United Church of Christ, Constantine, officiating.   Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Three Rivers. James Michael “Jim” Fitzstephens, age 72, of Mendon, died Thursday July 15, 2010 at his home.   He was born in Pontiac, Mich., on Dec. 11, 1937, the son of J. Edward and Mary (Phelan) Fitzstephens.   The family moved to Mendon  in 1952 where he attended Mendon High School, and for a time resided in Chicago.   He was married to Joyce Schmidt in 1959; they were later divorced.   While residing in Mendon Jim worked at Carl Green’s filling station in Mendon and for Ronningen Research & Development in Vicksburg.  Most recently he was a truck driver for Vanguard Industries and Forrest River Paper Company.   He was married to Victoria McMillan on April 1, 1983 in Kalamazoo.  She died on Nov. 7, 1984. Jim is survived by five sons, Michael Fitzstephens (Sandy) of Schoolcraft, Daniel of Mattawan, Timothy of Schoolcraft, Scott of Santa Barbara, Calif., and David of Berrien Springs;  a step-daughter, Michelle McMillan of Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren; a brother, Gerald Fitzstephens (Brenda) of Mumfordsville, Ky.; two sisters, Theresa Zmudka of Mendon, and Mary Ellen Cook (Charles) of Marcellus; and by several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and by two brothers, Thomas and Patrick. The family will receive friends from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday July 21, 2010 at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Lillian M. Swihart, 78, of Sturgis, passed away Sunday morning, July 11, 2010, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis. She was born Aug. 18, 1931, in Sturgis, a daughter of the late Clarence and Lucile (Berry) Walters. Lillian was a lifelong Sturgis-area resident and a graduate of Brighton High School in Brighton, Ind., with the class of 1950. On Oct. 5, 1952, she married Melvin K. Stukey. This marriage ended in divorce, and he preceded her in death on May 4, 2008. On Nov. 8, 1975, she was united in marriage with Stewart D. Swihart Sr. in Sturgis. He died Aug. 29, 2009. She had been employed by the First National Bank in Sturgis from 1971 until her retirement in 1990. Prior to that she had been employed by J.C. Penney in Sturgis from 1948-1965. She was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sturgis where she taught Sunday school from 1953-1963 and served as president of Lutherettes in 1963 and had also served as president of the Ladies Mission Circle. Lillian was always very active in the Sturgis community. Some of her involvements included holding the office of president with the Sturgis Band and Orchestra Parents Association in 1970, the Modern Mother’s Club, Sturgis Hospital Auxiliary 1994-1996, Sturgis Women’s Club, 1996-1998 and the Sturgis Hospital Medical Scholarship Guild. She served as treasurer of the Sturgis Hospital Medical Scholarship Guild and the Sturgis Women’s Club. She was a charter member of the Sturgis Hospital Popcorn Guild. Lillian was named Sturgis Citizen of the Year in 1998 and received the Sturgis Exchange Club Book of Golden Deeds in 1995. Lillian was instrumental in the establishment of the Tree of Love at the Sturgis Hospital. She is survived by a daughter, Christine (Duane) Gonser of Sturgis; a son, Jon (Cara Davis) Stukey of Sturgis; four grandchildren, April (Galen) Geigley, Andrew Mathews, Steven Mathews and Tori Stukey; three great-grandchildren, Carina Geigley, Cierra Geigley and Jonathan Mathews; a sister, Donna (Frank) Krontz of Sturgis; a brother, Clarence (Elaine) Walters of Quincy; a stepson, Stew (Donna) Swihart II of Howe, Ind.; three step-grandchildren, Scott Swihart, Steven (Lisa) Swihart and Cathy (Kurt) Stevens; longtime close and caring friend, Joyce Shinn of Sturgis; and several nieces and nephews. Lois was born on May 26, 1928, in Adrian, Mich. She was the daughter of Leo and Isabel Leonard. On July 26, 1947, she was married to Andrew Fisher in Toledo, Ohio. Lois spent much of her life providing children with a safe and caring environment while their parents worked. In addition to caring for children, Lois enjoyed gardening, sewing and crafts. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Her greatest joy, though, was spending time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all. Lois was preceded in death by Andrew Fisher (husband); Carmen Fisher (daughter); Leo Leonard (father); Isabel Leonard (mother); Virginia Smith (sister); and Bernard Leonard (brother). She attended the Berean Bible Church and CURVES. She is survived by her husband, Richard; children, Barbara (Ray) Hoff of Topinabee, James (Lori) Cummings of Topinabee, Kathleen Clancy of Tompinabee; seven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; brother, John DeJong of Topinabee; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Marion was preceded in death by her grandson Richard Hoff, and her sisters Dorothy Ray and Annabelle Berndt. She was born in Berkley, Mich., as the only child to mother, Myrtle Mae Symonds, and father, Frances Marion Harshman. Marion is survived by her step-mother, Helen Bernice Harshman of Ohio. Marion graduated from Redford High School, Berkley, and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during World War ll. She later became a member of the Clawson-Troy L'Kettes and maintained an active membership throughout her life. The passions of her life were her family, bowling, travel, and laughter. Marion was the beloved wife of Charles Samuel (Sam) Nay and was proud of their 45-year marriage. She was the loving mother of Dennis (Carolyn) Harshman, Megan (Alexander) Bouchard, Harold (Sherry) Bibby, Jr., and the late Rose, William (Billy), and Robert (Bobby) Bibby, and step-mother to Charles (Beth) Nay, Richard (Candi) Nay, and Carolyn (Dennis) Harshman. She had nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, along with a host of extended family and friends, many of whom knew her as Aunt Marion or Grandma Nay. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Sam, Nick, Shelby, Faith, Katie and Scarlett. He will be sadly missed by his dear companion, Tess Burfield, and his close friend and cousin, Lawrence Veihl. In 1977, she moved to Yuma, Ariz.  Mary Jane was a member of the United Church of God in Yuma. Surviving are her sister Betty Mae Bontrager of White Pigeon; brothers, William “Bill” (Fern) McClain of Constantine and Charles (Betty) McClain of Constantine; sisters-in law Mary McClain and Gladys McClain; many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Bessie M. Sharp, 94, of Montgomery, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility.  She was born Jan. 22, 1916, in Williams County, Ohio, the daughter of Alva and Corda (Mocherman) Traxler.  Bessie was a devoted homemaker and loved flowers. On Feb. 12, 1935, she married Melvin Sharp and he preceded her in death in 2007. She is survived by her three daughters, Bonnie (Robert) Holloway, of Reading, Jane Neeley, of Montgomery, and Vickie Lou McNeal, of Ohio; two sons, Larry Sharp, of Montgomery and Danny (Vicki) Sharp, of Angola Ind.; a sister, Mary (David) Horney, of East Grand Rapids, Mich.; two brothers, Richard (Helen) Traxler, of Camden, and Donald (Patricia) Traxler, of Montgomery; 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by a son, Gerald, and two infant children, Marvin and Sara, and numerous brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the George White Funeral Home in Reading. Interment will follow in Camden Cemetery.  Visitation is scheduled 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Charlene Janice Davis, of Hillsdale, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010, at her home under the loving care of her family and Hospice of Hillsdale County. She was born May 3, 1934, in Hillsdale County, the daughter of Doris and Lola (Julian) Hannibal.  She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Rex Davis whom she married on July 9, 1957; two children, Doug (Miriam) Davis of North Adams and Kathy (Tom) Johnston of North Adams; two grandchildren, Kierstyn and Kileigh Johnston; two stepchildren, Sarah Bell of Hillsdale and Mike (Darlene) Davis of Quincy; several step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; one sister, Sylvia Jones of Jonesville; one brother, Roger (Mary) Hannibal of Detroit; one sister-in-law, June Hannibal of Ransom Township and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and two sisters.   Mrs. Davis was a member of the Hillsdale United Brethren Church where she served with the Evening Missionary Society. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed her family.  A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Charlene Janice Davis will be held at the Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home in Hillsdale 11 a.m. Tuesday with Pastor Gar Hull officiating. Interment will take place in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsdale. The family will receive friends for visitation 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Bernath, 100, longtime Reading resident, passed away Wednesday July 14, 2010, at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility.  She was born in Amboy Township on Nov. 21, 1909, to William R. and Minnie E. (Haughey) Carothers.  Edith loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening and canning her produce.  She also helped others by taking in laundry and ironing. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Clifford Wells in 1941, and Harold Bernath in 1983. Survivors include two daughters, Mary J. Blythe, Reading and Dorotha M. Jenkins, Florida; a stepdaughter, Delores (Frank) Preston, Hillsdale; a son, Wesley (Betty) Wells, Coldwater; stepdaughter-in-law, Lenore Bernath, Marshall; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and her foster granddaughter, Lois Benjamin. She was also preceded in death by a son, Marlin Wells, stepson, Douglas Bernath, two grandchildren, four brothers and six sisters. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Saturday at the George White Funeral Home, Reading, with the Rev. Alan Fenstermaker officiating.  Interment will follow in Knauss Cemetery, Kinderhook. Visitation is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials to the Reading City Park are suggested.

Estelle M. Andenoro, 83, of Allen (formerly of Lakewood, Ohio), passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Laurels of Coldwater. She was born Nov. 18, 1926 in Wheeling, W. Va. to Charles and Elizabeth (Mitchum) Hieronimus. She enjoyed casino games and playing bingo. She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Cisco of Allen and Margaret Milligan of Ohio;  two sons, Sam Andenoro of Ohio and Guy Andenoro of Texas and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband (Guy Thomas Andenoro), and three grandchildren (Tracy Milligan, Michael Milligan, and Pvt.2 Guy Bremmer). At her request, cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Diocese of Cleveland.  Memorials to the family would be appreciated. Frank E. Baker, 75, of Brooklyn, Mich., passed away Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Allegiance Health in Jackson. He was born Dec. 12, 1934, in Detroit to Frank James and Ruth Catherine (Mowery) Baker. Frank was an avid hunter and fisherman and he truly loved the outdoors. He also spent time refinishing antiques.  For the last 20 years, Frank was a landscaper at a private estate in Utica, Mich., on which he developed and maintained a small exclusive golf course. Surviving are two siblings, Elsie Westlake of Brooklyn and James (Rena) Baker of Hillsdale, along with nine nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Vivian Brigle and Helen Moore, and a niece. Graveside memorial services for Frank Baker will be 3 p.m.Wednesday, at the King Lake Cemetery in Hillsdale with Pastor Robert Harvey officiating. There will be no visitation or calling hours. She married Joseph Daniel “J.D.” Smoke on Aug. 14, 1954, in Angola, Ind. and he preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 2000. Genevieve was a lifelong Hillsdale County and Lenawee County area resident. She enjoyed cooking and family gatherings. Surviving Genevieve are four children, Barbara Zmich of Chicago, Galen (Lana) Smoke and Darlene (Jack) Elliott, all of Hudson, and Deborah Hephner of North Adams and one brother, William (Darlene) Waldecker of Hillsdale. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Dorothy Fredrick; brother, Fred Waldecker; granddaughter, Amanda Yeider and son-in-law, John Hephner. She is survived by one daughter, Angela (Wayne) Rose of Jonesville; three grandchildren, Mikey (Nicole) Rose of Jackson, Matthew Rose of Jonesville and Megan Rose of Jonesville; four great-grandchildren, Ariana, Kennedy and Trevor Kilpatrick and Michael Horton Ill.; four sisters, Geraldine (Mike) Kelsch of Farmington Hills, Bernadette Paes of Arizona, Stephanie (Bill) Mullen of New Boston and Roxanne (Chris) Stadtfeld of Erie and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Edward Hayes. Mrs. Porter was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Jonesville and she retired from Klein Tools after over 30 years of service. A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Henrietta Ann Porter will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father Ioane Sigarara officiating. Interment will take place in the Mosherville Cemetery. Keith Edward Roberts, 75, of Jonesville, passed away Friday, July 9, 2010, surrounded by family and friends at Drews Place Village Green in Hillsdale. He was born July 22, 1934, in Angola, Ind., to Edward and Harriett Roberts, who preceded him in death along with one sister, Ruth Batterson of Coldwater. He was married Nov. 26, 1960, to Jane C. Crider of Chicago and she preceded him in death on Nov. 21, 2009, after nearly 49 years of marriage. Surviving are two daughters, Renae (Tom) Stritzinger of Grand Rapids and Amy (Chris) Fast of Hillsdale; five grandchildren, Nicholas, Abigail, and Madeline Stritzinger and Bennett and Ridley Fast. Also surviving is one sister, Pearl “Puckie” Luck of Ionia. Keith grew up in Dearborn Heights and Coldwater, where he graduated from St. Charles Catholic High School. He received a bachelor’s degree from Tri-State University in 1960 after serving two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as an agent for AAA Insurance in Hillsdale until 1978 when he purchased the Thompson-Roberts Agency in Jonesville. He owned and operated the agency until his retirement in 2001. An avid golfer, boater, and gardener, Keith was also an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale for almost 50 years. He enjoyed annual weekends at Manresa Jesuit Retreat House in Bloomfield Hills. Along with his wife, he volunteered his time to historical building restoration projects and other community services. He also served as president of the Hillsdale Lions Club. A mass of Christian burial for Keith Edward Roberts will take place at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 9 with Fr. Thomas Butler officiating. Interment will follow at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery. A memorial visitation honoring both Keith and Jane Roberts will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8 at VanHorn Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale. Born May 19, 1926, near Montpelier, Ohio, to Leona Irene Humbarger and Oliver Delbert Stantz, she was married to Carl V. Grubbs, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 1, 1971. A homemaker, Leota had been a Hillsdale County resident most of her adult life and is survived by her companion of 39 years, Frank Niner; two sons, William Ray (Dee) Grubbs, Cambridge, and Carlos Ray (Linda) Grubbs, Hillsdale; three daughters, Patricia Ann (Leo) Bernath, Montpelier, Bonnie Sue (Marlowe) Eidenier, Camden, and Sharon Kay (Rick) Hill Jr., Osseo; 17 grandchildren, several great- and great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul Stantz, Montpelier; and one sister, Lois (Paul) Clark, Bryan, Ohio. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Maurice and Cleo Stantz and one sister, Viola Rummel. There will be no visitation, and private family services will be held. She was married Sept. 21, 1974, to Gerald “Jerry” Wright and he survives. Sally was a former employee of Jonesville Products and Klein Tool. She was a graduate of Quincy High School in 1970. Sally was an avid walker, enjoyed knitting and spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren. Sally was a “Comet fan” and she attended as many sporting events as possible. Whenever you came into contact with Sally, you could count on her having a smile on her face and being happy. Surviving, besides her husband Jerry, are five children, Kelly (Jason) Elder, Kammy (K.C.) Ladd, Kirk (Julie) Wright, Kristy (Jamie) Smith and Katy Wright; eight grandchildren, Warrick Elder, Shauna, Sterling and Sedric Ladd, Brady and Ariana Wright, Devlin and newborn baby Smith; eight sisters, Nancy (Richard) Horn of Litchfield, Betty Majewski of Allen, Geraldine Jeffery, Dorothy (Kenneth) Frick, Donna (Duane) Barnett, Susan (Paul) Shilling and Linda (Larry) Kriser, all of Quincy and Bonnie (C. She is survived by five children, Charles Kostrzewa, Vickie (Bill) Theodorian, Darlene (James) Patrona, Bradley Kostrzewa and Scott (Mabel Abraham) Kostrzewa; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and one brother, Kaz Kalinski. “Sarge” worked as a cook at the Hillsdale County Jail and she was an avid bingo player. William E. Church, 93,  Lake LeAnn, passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2010, at his home. He was born on May 7, 1917 in Highland Park to Joseph B. and Mary K (Mott) Church. He married Valentine K. Kamke on Feb. 22, 1946, in Highland Park, and she preceded him in death on May 16, 1997. Bill was raised in Highland Park, before moving to Lake LeAnn in  1982. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1935.  He was employed at the former Heidrick Tool & Die Company in Oak Park, retiring on May 7, 1982.  Bill and his wife enjoyed driving around the area.  He also enjoyed tinkering around the house. Bill was known as “Two Socks”  as he always wore two different color socks all his life. Surviving are one daughter, Patricia A. Swanson of Lake LeAnn, two grandsons, Charles E. (Mila) Swanson of Jacksonville, N.C., Greg E. (Julie) Swanson of Royal Oak, five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Tara, Tessa, Stephanie and Patrick.  He was preceded in death by one brother,  Joseph G. (Daisy) Church, one sister, Mary K. (Ron) Vigus, one niece, Carolann and nephew, David. Patty graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1972.  She graduated with her L.P.N. from Glen Oaks Community College and began working for Three Rivers Hospital.  She later went to work for the Three Rivers Health Clinic and later for Dr. Don Schimnoski ,M.D., for over 25 years. On April 11, 1975, Patty married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Wortinger, and together they raised three beautiful daughters, Rebecca (Steven) Torres, Amanda (Glenn) Winters, and Jennifer (Joshua) Barner, all of Three Rivers; three grandchildren, A.J. Torres, Rory Winters, and Lizzie Torres; mother-in-law, Kathleen Wortinger and sister-in-law, Cinda Forbush, both of Three Rivers; uncle, Norman Wessell, of Centreville, Mich., and niece and nephew, Sheramy and Lee Forbush. Patty truly loved and was devoted to her family, husband, children and grandchildren.  She was very active in her early years in the Three Rivers Band Boosters and Girl Scouts. Patty was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Steve Wessell. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hohner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hohner Funeral Home, with Chris Johnson officiating. Interment will be held in White Pigeon Cemetery. Patricia L. St. Amour, age 68, of Cheboygan, passed away Friday, June 25, 2010. She was born April 14, 1942 in Pontiac to Clarence and Margaret (Morrow) Hudak. In 1962, Patricia married William K. St. Amour, who preceded her in death in 2000. Patricia was a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians and the Huron Street Tabernacle. She was an avid baker, having won first place in an apple pie baking contest and had baked all of her children’s wedding cakes. She enjoyed taking walks and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her six children, Jomarie (Ron Blaskowski) St. Amour, Kurt St. Amour, William (Penny) St. Amour, Therese (Kenneth) Warner, all of Cheboygan, Andrew (Holly) St. Amour of Wolverine and Alys-Marie Wilkinson of Cheboygan; one sister, Anna-Marie (David) McCormick of Cheboygan; two brothers, Russell (Dorothy) Hudak of Cheboygan and Joe (Ruth) Hudak of Detour; 25 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, William, Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Theresa Brasseur; and one brother, Eddie Hudak. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will take place on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Beaugrand Township Hall with Pastor Sam Agee officiating. Sally Melinda (Allen) Desprez Roscommon Passed away July 17, 2010, at the age of 69 after a brief but fierce battle with leukemia. Although she could not overcome the disease, her participation in two research studies to find new treatments showed her courage and may save future lives. A native of Newberry Springs, Calif., Michigan became Sally's home at the age of 18 as a young wife and mother, living first in St. Johns, then Saline, Ann Arbor and Roscommon. In her 40s, Sally fulfilled a lifelong dream and earned her degree in computer science with a 4.0 average. A former computer programmer at the University of Michigan, Sally continued to share her talent for computers after retirement by revitalizing the Web site and providing tech support for her church in Roscommon. In her 60s, Sally took up downhill skiing, hiked the Grand Canyon, learned how to paint watercolors, and turned her gift for music toward playing hand-bells in her church choir. Sally's daughters (Sherri [Mike] Falkenstein, Michelle [Al] Lavra, Lisa Desprez), grandsons (Albert and Daniel Lavra, Bradley and Christopher Orr), sisters (Billie [Stan] Reed, Donna [Steve] Pursiful, Beverly Lowe, Leone Koops), dear friends (Gayle and Phyllis Desprez), and dozens of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends will always remember her kindness, grace, devotion, love, intellect, strength and joy in her family. Sarah E. Caltrider Mason After only 15 years, Sarah was taken from us on July 17, 2010. She was born in Lansing, MI on June 14, 1995, the second daughter of Bruce and Suzanne Caltrider. Sarah was part of a very close knit family, sharing life with sister and best friend Zoe, and twin sisters Kaitlyn and Chloe. This past June, Sarah completed her freshman year at Mason High School as an Honor Student earning a 4.0 grade point average and achieving Varsity letters in both swimming and water polo. She played oboe in Mason High School Concert Band and saxophone in the marching and jazz bands. She had recently been selected for the Mason Color Guard Squad for fall 2010 and the Symphonic Band. Sarah was a Girl Scout for ten years, participating in many community service projects, completing her Bronze Award and beginning her Silver Award. Sarah was recently confirmed as a member of First Presbyterian Church of Mason. Sarah was kind and caring of other people, often thinking of others before herself and helping wherever needed. She loved life and lived it big and bold, ready to face any adventure. To her, swim and water polo teams and jazz band were her great passions. She truly loved her teammates and being with them. The four Caltrider girls were inseparable, and Sarah dearly loved and was dearly loved by her family. Her death creates a void that can never be filled. He is survived by three sisters, Roseann Johnson of Oregon,Sueann Mirkovich on Indianapolis, and Marieann Johnson of Constantine; seven brothers, Tim of Centreville, Ted of California, Jim of Lansing, John of ThreeRivers, Jack of London, Canada, Tom of Sturgis and Joe of Nevada; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Michael; a sister-in-law, Marsha Johnson; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Mirkovich. Cremation has been conducted. Private family services will be held. Interment of cremains will be at Moorepark Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Sue had been employed at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for 28 years. During that time she attended college and earned her degree in nursing. She had been a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church for 28 years. Sue loved to read, visit and spoil her grandchildren and attend church and plays. Sue was a loving daughter, mother and grandmother. She was selfless and always ready to help a friend in need. She enjoyed writing and making cards for friends and family. Sue will be dearly missed. Psalm 37:5 “Depend on the Lord, trust him, and he will take care of you.” She is survived by one daughter, Lisa (Gordon) Mosley of Acworth, Ga.; one son, Tim (Amanda) Hendricks of Richmond Hill, Ga.; mother, Geraldine Zarza of Marietta, Ga.; one brother, Larry Gowen; grandsons, Cole Hendricks and Jack Hendricks; nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Sadie. Wilfred (Bill) Godfrey

Wilfred (Bill) Godfrey Kalamazoo Bill Godfrey, age 94 died July 12, 2010 in Kalamazoo . He was born May 2, 1916 in Hillsdale County, the son of Clyde and Maribel (Hergert) Godfrey on a farm that remains in the Godfrey family. Formerly of Okemos, MI., Bill was known for his lifelong commitment to peace and justice issues and was involved in pacifist work during World War II and all wars that have followed. In March of 1943, Bill was married to his wife, Lucille (Tompkins) Godfrey. He was Chief of Examinations for the Civil Service Dept for the State of Michigan for 38 years. He also was a member of Lansing Area Council of Churches, Okemos Kiwanis Club, Lansing Central Methodist Church , Okemos Community Church and most recently, Skyridge Church of the Brethren. Bill and Lucille were members of many peace groups in the Lansing area. Bill was a passionate gardener and an avid lover of birds. He taught Sunday School for 35 years. In his retirement, he enjoyed raising and training his beloved yellow Labrador , Betsy for 13 years. He also prepared tax returns for the poor and elderly for nearly 20 years. Together with his wife Lucille, who survives, Bill raised four children who will miss him greatly. Surviving are three daughters, Anne (Larry) Peretti of Charlotte, NC, Lynn (Ralph) Heiden of Okemos, MI, and Jane (Pete) Givens of Portage, MI.; a son David (Lindsay Wentz) Godfrey of Kirkland, WA.; six grandchildren, Rob O'Brien, Lesley and Jim Sorenson, Katie Givens (Haddon) Kime, Dan Givens, and Eric Godfrey; two great grandchildren, Angelina Peretti and Abigail Givens Kime. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Skyridge Church of the Brethren of Kalamazoo, 394 S. Drake Rd. In lieu of flowers please donate food to your local food pantry in memory of Bill. Memorial contributions may also be made to Skyridge Church of the Brethren Memorial Fund. William Briggs, age 60, of Holland, died unexpectedly Saturday, July 10, 2010, at his home. Bill retired from the Grand Rapids Public School System where he had been a building manager and was also a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Briggs Jr. in 1974. Surviving are his wife, Robin of 38 years; daughter, Shannon Briggs and Hing Ung of Holland; granddaughters, Korena, Breanna, and Kayla; mother, Arlene Overway of Jenison; brother, Kim and Vicki Briggs of Wyoming; sisters-in-law, Carol and Harris Huyser of Hamilton and Anne Marie and Bryan Betz of Grand Rapids; six nephews; seven nieces; two great-nephews; and six great-nieces. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, 57 West 10th Street, with David Newton officiating. Burial will be in Graafschap Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Dykstra Life Story Funeral Homes-Mulder Chapel, 188 West 32nd Street. William J. Liski, age 78, of Adrian Twp. passed away July 17, 2010, at Lynwood Manor. He was born Feb. 23, 1932, in Kentucky, the son of Joseph Liski and Rose Liski Butts. William served his country in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Hydro Aluminum. William enjoyed camping, building radios and working with his hands. He is survived by four sisters, Mary Lou Hawkins of Indiana, Elizabeth (Dave) Swiger of Adrian, Martha (Jim) Cole of Adrian and Patty Bardon of D.C.; two brothers, John Liski of Adrian Township and Donald R. (Pam) Liski of Sand Creek; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two nieces, Jody Arnold and Kiara. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian, with the Rev. Chris Cadwallader officiating.   Yvonne (Sova-Smith) Armstrong, age 77, of Mendon, died Sunday, July 18, 2010, following a long illness. She was born Sept. 28, 1932, in Detroit, a daughter of Oliver and Irene (LaPrairie) Sova and attended Detroit area schools. She married Joseph J. Smith in Detroit and they later divorced. Yvonne worked as an LPN at a pediatrician’s office in Detroit. She was also a homemaker, and was a real estate broker in the Port Austin-Caseville area. She had been a resident of Mendon since 1994, where she attended St. Edward Catholic Church. In her spare time, Yvonne learned sign language, enjoyed oil painting, baking for family and friends, and working in her rose garden. Yvonne is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Gail Smith of Three Rivers; a daughter, Ardean Boyer of Lexington; three grandchildren, Joseph A. Smith, Miranda Smith, and Dane Boyer; a brother, John Sova; and a sister, Susan Bradd. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Elmer Indo and Robert Armstrong; two daughters, Jennifer Smith and Michelle Smith; and a brother, Roland Sova. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon, with the Rev. James Vinh Le officiating. Interment of ashes will follow in St. Edward Cemetery. The family suggests that memorials be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, 222 N. Yvonne "Bonnie" Lou (Benjamin) Pearson Delta Twp. Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, went to be with those who went before her on July 18, 2010. Bonnie was born September 22, 1932. She was a graduate of J.W. Sexton High School. She was the beloved wife of George "Rod" Pearson. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Dianne Perkins; her sons, James Dean and Gerald Wayne Perkins; her mother, Ruth Benjamin and father, Bert Benjamin. Bonnie leaves behind her loving husband George "Rod" Pearson; her daughter, Debra Perkins, Cathy Wollpert, and Michelle Benjamin; her son, Scott Parks; step-children, Randy Pearson, and Jill Ferris; her sister. Lola Arbaugh. Their blended families with 9 children, 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren, many friends whom she loved and cherished. She was the light in our life that has been extinguished. We love her and will miss her. Visitation is from 2-4, 5-8 p.m. Tuesday in the Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw, Lansing.
