COMPTON, BETTY JEAN; of Bloomfield Hills; went home to be with her Savior on July 8, 2010; at the age 85. Jean is now reunited with her beloved husband of 60 years Marvin R. Charles “Charlie” Schmitz, age 75, of Mendon, died Monday, July 5, 2010, at the Bronson Hospital emergency room.   He was born July 27, 1934, in Chicago, a son of Paul A. and Norvella (Kropel) Schmitz.  He attended St. Martin’s Catholic School and graduated from St. Rita’s Catholic School in 1953.    Charlie served in the U.S. Army from 1957-59 and was stationed in Italy. While living in Chicago, Charlie had worked for Pepsi-Cola Bottlers for 15 years, and later for Blue Island Cab Company and McVittie Plating Company. While living in Mendon he had been employed by Lear Plastics, where he was an active member of UAW Local 503, serving as union steward and sergeant at arms of the Area 6 Council. He and his family served as hosts for several area foreign exchange students. He was also a chauffer for the Amish community. On June 11, 1977, Charlie married Nan Custard in Mendon. She survives, along with a daughter, Theresa Schmitz of Three Rivers; a granddaughter, Mackenzie Urick; a brother, Lawrence Schmitz of Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.   He was preceded in death by his parents; and by five brothers, Paul, Michael, Thomas, Robert and Edward Schmitz. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon, where the Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m.   The funeral Mass for Charlie Schmitz will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Saint Edward Catholic Church in Mendon, with the Rev. Father James Vinh Le officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta. Charlotte Ann Nardizzi, 85, of Indian River, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2010 at the Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey. Charlotte was born August 12, 1924 in Grand Traverse County. She was the daughter of Carl and Elizabeth (Tompkins) Oatley. She grew up on Old Mission Point and as a young girl her family moved to Traverse City. Charlotte graduated from Traverse City High School in 1942. On May 7, 1944 she married Pasquale (Pat) Nardizzi in Traverse City. Throughout the years, the Nardizzi family has lived in Hale and Benzonia, Mich. They settled in Indian River in 1961 where they have been since. Charlotte and Pat enjoyed spending their winters in North Carolina. Charlotte enjoyed crafts, cooking and playing cards. She was an active member of the Indian River United Methodist Church as well as the United Methodist Women. She was a past president of the Cochran-Roberts V.F.W. Post Auxiliary and past worthy matron of the Primrose Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Indian River. She is survived by her husband, Pat; children, Rose E. (Charles) Marks of Flint, Mich., Pasquale (Nancy) Nardizzi, Jr. of Indian River, Mario L. Nardizzi of Indian River; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; siblings, Carl (Inez) Oatley of Williamsburg, Mich., Jack Oatley of North Fort Meyers, Florida, Virginia (Virgil) Ritondale of Tennessee, Richard (Helen) Oatley of Traverse City, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by her infant grandson, Justin, and her sister, Doris. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 5, 2010 at the Indian River United Methodist Church. Rev. John Lover and Rev. Jay Kendall will officiate. Cheryl A. (Cattell) Rubley, 55, of Fremont, Ind., beloved soul mate of Dennis, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, in Angola, Ind. Cheryl was born May 23, 1955, in LaGrange, Ind., to Eugene and June (Kaestner) Cattell. On Aug. 26, 1995, Cheryl gave Dennis Rubley her unconditional love and the two forever became one in marriage. Mrs. Rubley graduated from Prairie Heights High School and earned her associates degree from the International Business College of Fort Wayne, Ind. She had worked at the Herald Republican Newspaper in Angola, Infinisource and Indiana Wire. Cheryl was a member of Heartland Fellowship Church in Orland and had also attended Lake Bethel Mennonite Church. She enjoyed plastic canvas cross-stitch, reading and interior decorating. Cheryl volunteered with the Literacy Council, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially Dennis, and her dogs. Cheryl is survived by her husband, Dennis; her mother, June Cattell of LaGrange; her four-legged kids, P. Nutt and Shannon Wildfire Rubley III; a brother Marlin (Reba) Cattell of Howe; a brother-in-law, David (Del) Rubley of Coldwater; a nephew, Jason Rubley of New Jersey; a niece, Gretchen (Eric) Leese of Chicago; great-nephews Nicholas and Michael Leese; aunts Hazel Murphy of Allentown, Pa., Viola Cattell of Elkhart, Ind., and Doris Zarnnow of Chandler, Ariz.; and many cousins. Delbert M. “Del” Petermann, of West Bend, Wis., died peacefully July 5, 2010, at the age of 87. He was born Aug. 10, 1922, in the town of Auburn, Wis., to the late Henry and Esther (nee Schaefer) Petermann. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Arleigh (nee Ehnert) and his brother, Lloyd. He is survived by four loving daughters: Karen (Kari) Eckhardt (Edward) of Grafton; Kathleen (John) Limbach of West Bend; Judith (Tom) Frank of State College, Pa.; and Jeaneen (Brian) Hall of Sturgis.    “Grandpa Pete’s” eight grandchildren: Ed, Christine, John (Tammy), Adam (Jenny), Drew (Phoenicia), Nicole (Tom), Aaron and Gretchen (fiancé Jason) were one of the great joys of his life. He is also survived by a great-grandchild, April; a sister-in-law, LaVerne Petermann of Auburn,; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Delbert was widely known and well-respected in the West Bend area. He worked for over 45 years at the West Bend Company, missing only three days of work during that span. The other great joy in Delbert’s life was serving his Lord at Pilgrim and St. Andrew Lutheran churches, whether he was pulling weeds in the flowerbeds or counting the Sunday contributions. He was a church council officer, elder, Sunday School teacher, youth director, usher and tireless committee member.   Del was considered a “cornerstone” of the Kettle Moraine Dartball League in which he played for 68 years. Del was elected to the Wisconsin Dartball Hall of Fame in 2010. International Lutheran Laymen’s League, AAL, Camp Luwisomo, Living Word Lutheran High School, and Bethesda Lutheran Home will miss Delbert’s lifelong generosity, support and participation.  “Well done, good and faithful servant!” Funeral services for Delbert will be held at 11 a.m.  Saturday at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Farmington, Wis.  The Rev. Robert Korytkowski will officiate and lunch will follow the church service.  Interment will take place following lunch at St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery in New Fane. Relatives and friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum, Wis.,  and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service at the church. Donald E. Smoker, 60, of Howe, Ind., died unexpectedly Friday, July 9, 2010, at his home. He was a 1967 Sturgis High School graduate who excelled in Athletics. He was a Navy veteran who served his country during the Vietnam War. Donald retired from Ross Labs in Sturgis, where he worked in the shipping and receiving department. He was a past deacon of the Lima Presbyterian Church in Howe, supported the Disabled American Veterans and was an avid Notre Dame fan. He was born July 27, 1949, in Battle Creek, a son of Donald F. and Patricia A. (Stewart) Smoker. On May 24, 1969, he married Julie Thomae at the Lima Presbyterian Church in Howe. She survives in Howe. Also surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Chris Smoker of Howe and Matt and Alexis Smoker of Sturgis; a granddaughter (who was the love of his life) Rachel Olivia Smoker; and a brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Kelly Smoker of Lima, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Terry Smoker. According to his wishes, cremation will take place. George A. Weaver George A. Weaver, age 94, passed away Friday, July 9, 2010. George was born in Lima, Ohio, March 30, 1916, to George Alexander Weaver and Laura May Weaver. George was an Army veteran who served in World War II. George considered 1948 to be one of the most important years of his life because he graduated from Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree. He married the love of his life, Molly Hoffman. He was hired by the Ohio CIO Council, his first full-time job in the labor movement. George continued his career in the union, retiring after 28 years with the UAW. George, the rock of the family, leaves his wife of nearly 62 years. He had four children: Laura, George Jr., Doris and Marian; six grandchildren: Edward, Gordon, Rudy, Anna, Brandy and Ashley; one great-grandchild: Kisa Elizabeth; two brothers: Forrest and Emmett; and three sisters: Marian, Ruth and Doris who predeceased him. Visitation is at Kaul Funeral Home located at 28433 Jefferson Ave., St. Clair Shores, MI, Tuesday, July 13th from 2:30-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 9-11 a.m., with the funeral at 11 a.m. |

James A. Fairchild, 89, of Three Rivers, passed away Friday, July 9, 2010, at Three Rivers Health. He was born April 6, 1921, on the family farm in Florence Township, a son of Ernest and Florence M. (Kelley) Fairchild. On May 20, 1948, he married Thelma Weber at the Centreville Presbyterian Church. Jim worked and operated the family farm until he retired in 1985. He also worked as a Three Rivers Hospital attendant. Jim was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Three Rivers/Centreville, where he worked at one time or another on each board. He served on the Lockport Township Board  for 22 yrs, 13 as its treasurer; the Lockport-Fabius Park Fire Board  for 17 years; and the Agricultural Stabilization Committee for more than 20 years. Jim was a St. Joseph Farm Bureau lifetime member, and Junior Farm Bureau and St. Joseph County 4-H leader. Jim also served on the Gov. G. Mennon Williams Agricultural Advisory Board. Surviving Jim are his wife, Thelma Fairchild; daughters Carla Jean (Will) McDonald of Bennettsville,  S.C., and Louann (Lee) Bitely of Bitely; son Charles Fairchild of Sturgis; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister Lola Musser of Portage.   He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister Kathleen Fairchild. Relatives and friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Eley Funeral Home in Centreville, where religious services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with Pastor Marilyn Schlimgen, First Congregational United Church of Christ, Constantine, officiating.   Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Three Rivers. He served in the Marines before becoming a truck driver; he then retired to his garden where he planted beautiful flowers and vegetables. Sept. 5, 1924 - March 5, 2010 Lorenzo Salazar was born Sept. 5, 1924 in Arcada Township, Gratiot County, Michigan, to parents Antonio and Josephine Salazar; he was one of fourteen children who were raised in Alma. He graduated from Alma High School and served as a Seaman First Class Gunner's Mate in the Navy in World War II. In 1960, he transferred with Redman Trailers to Dallas, Texas, with a wife and three children, Mary Ann, Mike and Neil. He made Irving, Texas his home, the Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Mavericks his teams, and retired after 45 years of service with Redman. He enjoyed spending time with his family, loved his children, grandchildren and his great-grandchildren dearly. He enjoyed playing card games, croquet, dancing, reading the paper, travelling, caring for his roses, eating any kind of ice cream, but vanilla was his favorite, and taking care of Toby, his dog. He always said his dog was just as stubborn as his brother Toby, hence the name. He left this world on March 5, 2010, to pursue bigger and brighter things in the next and as his great-grandchildren will tell you "to eat all the ice cream he wants in Heaven." As we look up into the clouds we know they are right…He's just busy picking his next flavor… and watching over us all. - We love you! |

Margaret (Marge) Frances Thiele, age 90, of Sturgis, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at Sturgis Hospital. She was born July 14, 1919, in Chicago, a daughter of the late Anthony L. and Margaret (Miller) Schuster. Marge started her career in Chicago, working as a secretary in an advertising agency. There, she met Frederic W. Thiele Sr. They were married in 1941. During the early 1940s she was stationed with her husband on U.S. Army assignments in St. Louis, Seattle, Yokohama, Japan, and Fort Sheridan, Ill.  In 1942, they made Brookside Farm, Colon, their permanent home. In 1984, Marge moved to Sturgis. While living in Colon, she was an active member of the Colon Garden Club, the Colon library board, local school PTA’s, and was a founding member of St. Barbara’s Catholic Church. Marge enjoyed gatherings, gardening, oil painting, traveling and volunteer work for her church, the St. Joseph County Council on Aging and the Pregnancy Crisis Line. While a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church for the past 25 years, she had been very active in the altar society, Holy Angels Seniors and prayer circles. She enjoyed 20 years of traveling that took her all over the world: Israel, Russia, Egypt, Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Ireland and all throughout the British Isles.  Her painting also brought her much joy. She not only painted, but also attended many art classes, and exhibited her art in shows at the Sturges Young Auditorium. She was married to Frederic William Thiele Sr. for 34 years. He preceded her in death on April 19, 1975. Surviving Marge are her children, Carolyn (Kenneth) Hall of St. Simons Island, Ga., and Anne (Richard) Messner of Sturgis; daughter-in-law Elizabeth Jane (Thiele) Pinder of Conifer, Colo.; a goddaughter, Margaret (George) Dinklenburg of Libertyville, Ill.; five grandchildren, Elizabeth (Mark) Knudsen of Rockport, Mass., Stephanie (Benjamin) Bolton of Sautee, Ga., Anthony (Kate) Messner of Sturgis, Frederic (Brianne) Thiele of Dusseldorf, Germany, and Michael Pinder of Conifer; great-grandchildren Kai and Masha Knudsen, Adelyn, Clayton, and Aubrey Bolton, and Aiden and Giselle Thiele. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Frederic William Thiele Jr.; father and mother-in-law, Victor and Ida Thiele; and three sisters, Dolores (LeRoy) Scheffner, Lucille Schuster and Rosemary Schuster. The family will receive friends and relatives from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Hackman Family Funeral Home Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Margaret Quitter Margaret Quitter, age 88, a resident of Center Line since 1950, died July 10, 2010 at Ford Bi-County, Warren. She was born June 23, 1922 in Armada. Margaret was retired as a head cashier after 30 years at Kroger Food Stores. She was very active in church work at St. Clement; member of Daughters of Isabella; a devoted, loving mother and neighbor. She is survived by her children Robert (Nancy) Quitter and Irma (James) Duncan; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Marion Cummings, 85, of Topinabee, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2010. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, July 5, at the Berean B ible Church in Topinabee. Seh was the daughter of John and Effie (Huizenga) DeJong. Marion grew up in Chicago and graduated from Parker High School. After graduationg she went to work with tthe Foott Brothers, a factory producing material to support World War Two. On July 28, 1945 she married Richard E. Cummings in Chicago where the couple made their home and raised their family. Marion was employsed as a Home Health Aid for many years. In November 1994, Marion and Richard moved to Topinabee where they have been since. Marion loved to cook. She enjoyed music being surrounded by her family. She attended the Berean Bible Church and CURVES. She is survived by her husband, Richard; children, Barbara (Ray) Hoff of Topinabee, James (Lori) Cummings of Topinabee, Kathleen Clancy of Tompinabee; seven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; brother, John DeJong of Topinabee; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Marion was preceded in death by her grandson Richard Hoff, and her sisters Dorothy Ray and Annabelle Berndt.   Mase, a 1960 graduate of Onaway High School, worked for the Michigan State Department of Highway and for Cheboygan Memorial Hospital in the maintenance department. His passion and talent for fishing took him to Grand Marais in the summers and his winters were spent in Tower carving and painting decoys, which are admired by many. His kind heart and generosity will be missed by all. Mase is survived by his four children, Beth (Brian) Flynn, Edward (Barb) Mason, Lynda (Al) Hererra and Patrick (Sharla) Mason. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Sam, Nick, Shelby, Faith, Katie and Scarlett. He will be sadly missed by his dear companion, Tess Burfield, and his close friend and cousin, Lawrence Veihl. Mase also leaves behind aunts, uncles and many cousins. His parents, Gladys and Marvin Mason, precede him in death. Marvin Junior Mason “Mase”, age 68, of Tower, died at home on July 2, 2010. Mary Etta Whaley, 81, lifelong resident of Millersburg, passed away July 4, 2010 at Tendercare Health Center in Rogers City. Whaley was born August 18, 1928 in Onaway, Mich., the daughter of Herbert and Pearl (Whittaker) Stock. She was married to Homer Whaley on November 5, 1947 in Onaway. Mary Etta was a homemaker and farmer. She also worked outside of the home for Circuit Control and High-Q until 1990, when she retired. Her hobbies included fishing, gardening, sewing and horseback riding. She was an animal lover. She also enjoyed being a 4-H leader for many years. She is survived by her daughters, Lois (Donald) Crooks of Millersburg, Mary (Gary) Sias of Cheboygan, Betty (Larry) LaFave of Onaway and Missouri and Arlene Susan (Victor) Garms of Ocqueoc; a son, Elmer (Sandy) Whaley of Rogers City; 14 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren; her brothers, Herbert Stock Jr. of Millersburg and Sam Stock of New Mexico; and her sisters, Lois (Bruce) Price of Onaway and Minnie (Jim) Wilkinson of Onaway. Preceding Mary Etta in death are her husband, Homer (December 1998); sisters, Louise McGrath, Betty Stock and Ruth Ellenberger; brother, Bill Stock; parents, Herbert and Pearl Stock; and step-mother, Minie Stock. Elsie Claribel Bernard, 83, of Hillsdale, passed away Saturday, July 3, 2010, at Drews Place Village Green in Hillsdale. She was born Jan. 11, 1927 in Jefferson Township to Ted M. and Grace (Edinger) Kelley. She was married Nov. 17, 1946 to Leo Ray “Eddie” Bernard and he preceded her in death Feb. 1, 1991.        Elsie was a lifelong farmer, a former employee of Kiddie Brush Company, worked for 10 years in the laundry at Hillsdale Community Health Center, and over 30 years as secretary in the Hillsdale County Fair Office. She was an avid garage saler, holding weekly garage sales for over 20 years. Elsie is survived by two sons, Karl (Jane) Bernard of Osseo and Kenton Bernard of Ocala, Fla.; a brother, Asa Elwyn (Helen) Kelley of Addison; a brother-in-law, Robert Caskey of North Adams; four grandchildren, Ian Bernard, Aaron (Jennifer) Bernard, Mark (Chris) Bernard and Alison (Curtis) Rearick; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.                                                         Besides her husband, Leo “Eddie” Bernard, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Wilford Lavere.                           Funeral services for Elsie C.  Ernestene Graybill, 66, passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She spent her final days at home surrounded by loved ones. She passed away July 3. She was born Ernestene Juanita Brooks on Sept. 18, 1943 to her parents, James and Marjorie (Doriell) Brooks. She graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1961. Ernestene married Maurice Olin Graybill on December 21, 1963. They were happily married 33 years. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, James Brooks, and one sister, Mary Louella Stump. She worked 20 years at Fayette Tubular Products and she was the owner/operator of A GraySwan Quilt shop. Ernestene is survived by four children, Peggy (Randy) Swander of Clayton, Linda (Josef) Swaney of Navarre Fla., James (Debbie) Graybill of Hubbard, Ohio, and Juanita (Jamie) Kelley of Adrian; five grandchildren, Nicholas, Nathan and Noah Swander of Clayton, and Ashley Swaney and Maurice Graybill of Navarre Fla.; two brothers, Tom Brooks of Onsted and Ivan (Velma) Brooks of Carleton, Mich.;four sisters, Donna Steele of Jonesville, Ruth Westgate of Onsted, Ann Rice of Onsted and Carol Brooks of Adrian. Surviving besides his wife, Shirley, are two daughters, Lisa (Michael) Brink of Hillsdale and Connie McCutcheon of Colfax, Ind.; a son, Randy Bates of Hillsdale; a sister-in-law, Megan Bates of Paw Paw; a brother, Gene Doolittle of Hillsdale; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Martha Ann Bonfiglio-Johnstone, 72, passed away Monday, July 5, 2010. Martha was a 1956 graduate of Hillsdale High School and a 1960 graduate of Siena Heights University. She taught 30 years for the Lansing Diocese, 25 of those at Our Lady of Fatima, Michigan Center (1977-2002). Other schools were St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Pius X and St. Michael’s of Flint. She was also a CCD teacher at St. Mary’s of Jackson and Our Lady of Fatima (1990-1994). Martha was honored three times in “Who’s Who of American Teachers”. She was a former member of the Jackson Symphony Orchestra, Jackson Musical Theatre, Clark Lake Players, Queen’s Choir and Our Lady of Fatima Choir. Martha is survived by her four children and 11 grandchildren: Christopher (Chip and Karen) Johnstone (Kyle, Casey and Caleb), Mary Johnstone (Solomon and Alexandria Blair), Nancy Bellers (Edward, Rafe, Cindy and Riley), and David (Melisa) Johnstone (Anthony and Brea Marie). One sister survives, Nancy Bonfiglio Dogan of Wayne, Pa., two nephews and a niece. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie; two brothers, Natale Jr. and Anthony and her parents, Natale and Ruth Bonfiglio, all of Hillsdale. The Mass of The Christian Burial will be 1 p.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 711 N. Francis St., Jackson, with the Reverend James Shaver officiating. The family will greet friends noon-1 p.m. at the church. Private interment will take place at St. Anthony Cemetery in Hillsdale. She worked with the Camp Fire Girls for many years and enjoyed working at Confection Connection. Ronald G. Sierecki Sr. Ronald G. Sierecki Sr., age 65, of New Carlisle, Ohio passed away Friday July 9, 2010. He was born November 23, 1944, in Mount Clemens, MI the son of the late George and Frieda (Veith) Sierecki. He retired in 1988 from the U.S. Air Force. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Doris; sons, Ronald Sierecki, Jr., George and Rhonda Sierecki all of New Carlisle, Robert Sierecki of Miamisburg, OH; 11 grandchildren; a sister, Gloria Gostovich of New Baltimore, MI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a granddaughter. The family would like to thank the staff at Belle Manor Nursing Home for the loving care he received. Scott Alan Carpenter, 41, of Sturgis, died Sunday, July 4, 2010, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born March 2, 1969, in Sturgis, a son of Douglas James and Linda Sue (Persing) Carpenter. He had been a Sturgis resident all his life. On Sept. 19, 2007, he married Rmentie Inez (Mendy) Keifer in Centreville. He was self-employed in construction, Hannapel Home Center in Sturgis, RV manufacturing at Coachman, and Morgan-Olsen of Sturgis for eight years. He enjoyed yard work and was known to be able to fix anything. Surviving are his very loving wife, Rmentie Inez Carpenter of Sturgis; two daughters, Kaila Riquelle Wright and Kirstan Kay Sawyer, both of White Pigeon; a son, Noah Ronald-Lee Rowe of Sturgis; a grandson, Seth Benjamine Wright; mother, Linda S. Carpenter, and father, Douglas J. Carpenter of Sturgis; a brother, Chad (Paula) Carpenter of Sturgis; two sisters, Danielle (David) Carpenter-Garl, Amanda (Daniel Keifer) Carpenter of Sturgis; loving mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dan and Jamie Hershberger of Sturgis; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousin and many friends. He was preceeded in death by his grandparents. Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Thursday at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon. A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Mr. Gary Gray officiating. Cremation will follow services. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family. She is survived by her three children, Glenn, Brad and Vicki; her son-in-law, Charles Lutz; four grandchildren, Charles Jr., Courtney and her husband, Eric, Nicholas and Matthew; and one great-grandchild, Jacob Durfee. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at noon at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints in Coldwater with Bishop Joseph Hayman officiating. Interment will follow at Mason Cemetery in Coldwater. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m. at the church. Arrangements are being cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater. Tom was born March 11, 1947 in Chicago, Ill. to Eugene and Leatha (Elliott) Huntzicker. He married Cherilyn Halferty on Jan. 18, 1997 in Jonesville. Mr. Huntzicker had worked for Del Monte, Dekalb and the Randall Bean Company. He had also worked locally at ADAPT for many years. Tom was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints and had attended the Outlook Clubhouse in Coldwater. He was a member of the Lions Club of Illinois and Alexia Enterprises in Coldwater. Tom had been active as a cub scout leader in earlier years and enjoyed fishing, family history and American Indian Artifacts. Tom is survived by his wife Cheri, his step children Sally Rodriguez and Jason Caldwell, both of Coldwater, his half brother Bill Westerbeck of Elgin, Ill. and 17 grandchildren. Walter E. Leist, age 93, of Carp Lake, passed away July 2, 2010 at his home on Lake Michigan. He was born September 27, 1916 in Boyne City to Edwin and Sylvia (Hurd) Leist. Walter was the firm foundation that his large extended family flourished from. He will be missed by all who were touched by his loving spirit. Walter is survived by his wife, Rita; daughter, Judy & Bruce Anderson of Longwood, Florida; three grandchildren, Shelly (Mike) Hensley, Scott Anderson and Steve Anderson; five great-grandchildren, Luke, Madeline, Emma, Braydon and Althea; sister, Merna Gillespie; stepson, Dan Wilcox; two sisters-in-law, Judy Ranville and Aneta Collard; numerous beloved nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews, including Gerald Ranville and Peggy Klein, who lived with Walter for several years during their childhood. Mr. Leist was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann; four sisters, Margaret, Wanda, Gerry and Edith; and two brothers, Everett and Russel. A memorial mass will take place at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Mackinaw City on Saturday, July 17 at 3 p.m. Arrangements are in care of the Beck Funeral Home. |
