Clarey Rita Mae July 22, 1926 - October 1, 2010. Rita's spirit has risen to heaven to meet her God, her husband and eldest son who preceded her in death. Soon she will be a part of a very special and long awaited McCrady Reunion with her parents and 10 brothers and sisters. Her death will bring to close a generation whose memories we will all cherish. Her last days were spent in the peace and comfort of her home in Sparks, Nevada with her daughter Peggy Clarey and son-in-law, Fred Conner. Rita was born at the farm on Pumping Station Road. Fairfield County, Ohio. She grew up in Sugar Grove, Ohio, attended and graduated from Berne Union School in Sugar Grove, Ohio. Rita was the youngest child born to Charles and Rosemary (Shonebarger) McCrady. Rita was married to Wilbert A. Clarey for 56 years before his death in 2006. At that time she moved to Nevada to live with her only daughter. She had four children: Daniel (Linda), Peggy (Fred), Bruce (Alise), and Andrew (Laura). She had six male grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was a Nurses Aid at Garden City Osteopathic Hospital for over 20 Years. G.C.O.H. is located less that one block from the family Home on Cardwell Street, Garden City, Michigan. Her interests included playing cards, bingo, casino gambling and creating Jewelry Pictures. With "Web", she became an active and enthusiastic member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, starting in the mid 50's at Johnsons Post #78, on Joy Road in Detroit, Michigan, and ending her service at Battle Born Post #9211 on VFW Historic Lane in Reno, Nevada. She was anointed by Father Norman King from the Immaculate Conception Church. Her remains will be at the Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia, Michigan. Instead of flowers or gifts, remembrances can be PAID FORWARD.

David Earl Thomas Marshal David Earl Thomas, age 75, of Marshall died Saturday, October 30, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Thomas was born on June 18, 1935 in Marshall to Carl and Gladys (Wright) Thomas Sr. He was a life long resident of this area. He had been employed as a Union Brick Layer for forty two years. He retired in 1997. Marriages to Phyllis Warsop and Norma (Jelinek) Delaney ended in divorce. Mr. Thomas served on the School Board for the MarLee School District and was a volunteer firefighter with the Marengo Township Fire Department. He was a member of the Marshall Moose Lodge. David was a member of the Calhoun County Horse Breeders Association, and was the Rebel Riders 4-H Horse Club leader. He served as the Superintendent of the open class horse barn as well as the draft horse pulling Superintendent. David also enjoyed participating in local antique tractor pulls in 1942 Case tractor. He is survived by a son, Steven (Brenda) Thomas of Bryon Center; a daughter, Cindy Thomas of Marshall; step-children, Angela (Norbert) Freitel of Marshall and Annette Fisher of Springport; step-grandchildren, Kirsten Freitel and Aubrey Fisher; brother, John Thomas of Marshall. He is preceded in death by sisters, Betty Tucker, Harriette Shreve, and Ruth Dahlman; brother, Carl W. Thomas Jr; brother-in-law, Lyle Shreve; and father-in-law, Joseph Warsop. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home and Cremation Services. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Hilda M. Sundberg

Hilda M. Sundberg Battle Creek Hilda M. Sundberg, age 92, died Sunday, October 31, 2010, in Battle Creek. Hilda was born on January 3, 1918, in Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Steve and Emma (Lavell) Rowen. She moved to Rochester, New York as a young girl. She then moved to Battle Creek after she married Enoch Sundberg who preceded her in death in 1993, after 53 years of marriage. She was a member of St. Philip Catholic Church. She has always been an active member of several organizations and community groups in Battle Creek, including Past President of the Morning Musical Club, Past President of the United Commercial Travelers auxiliary, Past President of the Battle Creek Irish Club, an officer of the Battle Creek Chapter of Professional Secretaries International, a member of the Leila Hospital Auxiliary, and a long time member of St. Philip's Guild. All eight of Hilda's children went to St. Philip School. Hilda always had a goal of getting a college degree and began going to night school in the 1960's. In 1979 she graduated from Kellogg Community College with an AA degree and earned her certification as a professional secretary (CPS). She received her degree from KCC at the same time that her youngest child Carl received his AA degree. Hilda began working in the medical records department at Community Hospital in 1962 and remained at Community Hospital until she retired in 1986. After that, she became the executive secretary of the Calhoun County Medical Society until she retired again, this time at the age of 75! She lived at NorthPointe for the last 10 years of her life and loved it there. Surviving are her 8 children, Dan (Jan) Sundberg of Charlotte, NC, Diane Bell of Battle Creek, Larry (Janet) Sundberg of Hartford, CT, Cathy (Mike) Brown of Battle Creek, Laurie Ruiz of Lansing, Eric (Glennis) Sundberg of Fort Wayne, IN, Dr. Mark (Cindy) Sundberg of Concord, CA, and Dr. Carl (Devon) Sundberg from Indianapolis, IN. She has been a dedicated mother, grandmother, mentor and teacher for 38 children, grandchildren and great grandchildren (with 59 offspring including spouses). She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Christina Dunnigan and Millie Miller; 2 brothers, Ray and Joe Rowen; son-in-law, John Bell. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 to 8:00 p.m. at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 4, 2010, at St. Philip Catholic Church with The Rev. Charles H. His ability to reach bodies, hearts and minds was legendary. Rob was gifted at articulating the pilgrimage towards consciousness. Rob was the enthusiastic president of Kirkwood Lake Association for 20 years. Rob loved to fish with his brothers and friends on the beautiful Michigan waterways. Raymond Amsler Lake Placid, FL Raymond Russell Amsler, of Lake Placid, FL, died October 28, 2010. He was born in Curtice, Ohio on March 8, 1925. His family moved to Homer, MI, when he was as a child. He attended Homer schools, graduating from Homer high school in 1943. He was a U. S. Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific from 1943 to 1945. He worked for Consumers Energy in Southwest Michigan from 1946 until his retirement in 1984. During his years with Consumers Energy, he resided in Battle Creek, MI. He spent Winters in Lake Placid from 1985 until 2002, becoming a year round resident in 2002. Survivors include his daughters, Yvonne (Gary) Poisson, Sebring FL, and Nancy (Tom) Wachsmuth, Augusta, MI. A private memorial service in Lake Placid has taken place.

Abbey on September 14, 1946, he preceded her in death on March 12, 1966. Ruth was employed by W.K. Kellogg Foundation from 1937 to 1948 and the Kellogg Community College from 1966 until she retired in 1984. She is survived by daughters, Nancy (David) Schweitzer and Margie (Vince) Miller, both of Battle Creek; a son, James (Toni) Abbey, of Durango, CO; grandchildren, Vanessa (Leo) Taveras, of New York City, Lindsey (Chris) Walden, Andrea (Jake) Barker, Natalie Miller, all of Battle Creek; a step-granddaughter, Timmie Murphy, of Durango, CO; special niece, Dawn Kunkler; along with many nieces and nephews. Ruth was expecting her first great grandchild in December of 2010. She was also preceded in death by three siblings, Helen Kunkler, Donald Keating, and Florence Baechler. Ruth was a member of St. Philip Catholic Church, its Council of Catholic Women, Burnham Brook, A.A.R.P., and Retired School Personnel. She enjoyed walking, playing cards, sports, and spending time with her grandchildren. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Richard A. Rexrode (Tom) of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Mary J. Robinson (Andy) of Arvada, Colorado; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert L. Pratt in 1995 and George. D. Andrews in 2003. A celebration of Bill's life will be held for friends and family on Sunday, November 14, 2010 at 2:00 at Cedar Creek Golf Course clubhouse, Battle Creek, MI. Interment will be in Battle Creek, MI at a later date.


 


 

Williams (Nee Kramer, Josephone Mabel

Williams Josephine Mabel (Nee Kramer) Age 80 of Utica, died peacefully Saturday, October 2, 2010 after a 7 year battle with Alzheimer's. She is survived by her only daughter Donna (Michael) Kemper, her niece Marie (David) Vanker, and her nephews John Kramer and Raymond (Yvonne) Kramer plus several grandnieces and grandnephews. Jo graduated from Capac High School in 1948 and worked for Sears for 32 years. She loved gardening and animals. Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Rd., (3 blks. E. of Van Dyke) Utica . Friends may visit on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Resthaven Home at 1424 Union NE, Grand Rapids, MI. 49505.
