Aileen Conley Albion Aileen Conley, age 80 of Albion passed away Sunday, November 7, 2010 at her residence. She was born November 27, 1929 in Garrett, Kentucky to Bev and Elizabeth (Warrens) Scott. On August 30, 1947 she married Robert L. Conley who survives. She was a payroll clerk for Corning Glass for 14 years then she was an Administrative Assistant for the Mar-Lee schools for 16 years. Aileen was a member of the Grace Free Will Baptist Church in Albion where she sang for 65 years, she also was a Sunday school teacher and treasurer for the church. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, gardening and being a softball coach. Aileen is survived by her husband, Robert "Bob" Conley of Albion; daughter, Priscilla (Larry) Craighead of Shelby, OH; sons, Tom (Debbie) Conley of Bloomington, IL, Doug (Darla) Conley of Albion; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Gorman (Hester) Scott of Mousie, KY; and sister-in-law, Etta Scott of Garrett, KY. Funeral Service will be Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Drive, Albion, Michigan with Rev. Earl Martin officiating. Burial will be at Rice Creek Cemetery, Lee Township. Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, November 10, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Clarey Rita Mae July 22, 1926 - October 1, 2010. Rita's spirit has risen to heaven to meet her God, her husband and eldest son who preceded her in death. Soon she will be a part of a very special and long awaited McCrady Reunion with her parents and 10 brothers and sisters. Her death will bring to close a generation whose memories we will all cherish. Her last days were spent in the peace and comfort of her home in Sparks, Nevada with her daughter Peggy Clarey and son-in-law, Fred Conner. Rita was born at the farm on Pumping Station Road. Fairfield County, Ohio. She grew up in Sugar Grove, Ohio, attended and graduated from Berne Union School in Sugar Grove, Ohio. Rita was the youngest child born to Charles and Rosemary (Shonebarger) McCrady. Rita was married to Wilbert A. Clarey for 56 years before his death in 2006. At that time she moved to Nevada to live with her only daughter. She had four children: Daniel (Linda), Peggy (Fred), Bruce (Alise), and Andrew (Laura). She had six male grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was a Nurses Aid at Garden City Osteopathic Hospital for over 20 Years. G.C.O.H. is located less that one block from the family Home on Cardwell Street, Garden City, Michigan. Her interests included playing cards, bingo, casino gambling and creating Jewelry Pictures. With "Web", she became an active and enthusiastic member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, starting in the mid 50's at Johnsons Post #78, on Joy Road in Detroit, Michigan, and ending her service at Battle Born Post #9211 on VFW Historic Lane in Reno, Nevada. She was anointed by Father Norman King from the Immaculate Conception Church. Her remains will be at the Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia, Michigan. Instead of flowers or gifts, remembrances can be PAID FORWARD.

Donald Lee Sampeer

Donald Lee Sampeer Mr. Donald Lee Sampeer, age 74, died at Hospice of the Valley in Surprise, Arizona on Tuesday, September 28, 2010. He was born March 31, 1936, in Owosso, MI. His family moved to Battle Creek, MI, when he was five. Donald attended the Verona School and graduated Battle Creek Central High School in 1954. He worked for Grand Trunk Railroad for one year as a diesel apprentice. Enlisting in the, in 1955, he traveled the world. He lived in Minnesota, the Philippine Islands, Michigan, Kansas, California and Germany with his family. He spent one year in Nova Scotia and one year in Southeast Asia. For his efforts in Southeast Asia, he was awarded the Air Force's fifth highest honor, the, . He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1977. Don began his second career selling Nurse-call systems and TVs to hospitals. It was at this time he became an Elk in the Redlands, CA, lodge. He was the Esquire and Leading Knight at the Yucaip, CA, lodge and Inner Guard, Treasurer, and Trustee at the Sun City lodge. Survivors include his wife, Audrey (Cameron); children, Scott (April), Patrick and Sherri Lopez (Tim); four grandchildren, Jason, Reuben, Shelby, Amber (Tony); and four great-grandchildren, Jesse, Madison, Jenna and Terrence. A memorial service was held at the, in Sun City, Arizona, on October 15, 2010. Burial will be at the Riverside National Cemetery, California, with Military Honors on November 12, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. Donations to the Hospice of the Valley, 14066 W. Dora G. Morales Battle Creek Dora G. Morales, 76, of Battle Creek passed away Monday November 8, 2010 at her home. She was born on October 1, 1934 in Springfield, MI to Joseph and Maria (DeLorenzo) Tonelli. Dora graduated from St. Philip Catholic High School in 1953. She married Frank Morales on August 1, 1953 in Battle Creek. Dora was employed by the Battle Creek Police Dept. for 21 years as a records clerk until she retired in 2001. She then worked as one of the secretaries at St. Jerome Catholic Church. Dora is survived by her husband, Frank Morales; her children, Ben (Jeanne) Morales, of East Leroy, Frank (Jennifer) Morales, Jr. of Climax, Trish (Mark Kivin) Morales, of Dowling, Mary (Bill) Poillion, of Houston, TX, Anna (Roger) Antes, Ted (Mary Anne) Morales, Lydia Ivany, Angela (Darrell) Belson, Diana Morales, and Joan (Dayton) Smith, all of Battle Creek; 32 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Matthew M. Morales in 2005, a brother, Rudy Tonelli, sisters, Lydia Metty, Ida Marietti, and Ann Ret. Dora was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church. She was a Master Gardener and enjoyed fishing, playing bingo, trips to the casino, and spending time with her family. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home where a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday November 11, 2010 at St. Jerome Catholic Church with The Reverend Mathew Manalel officiating. Edward R. Thomas Edward R. Thomas, age 80, went home to be with the Lord peacefully with Earlene Wooden reading the 23rd Psalm to him. He was born March 25, 1930 in Tekonsha to Frank and Ella Mae (Hill) Thomas II. He lived on the Thomas Family Centennial Farm most of his life. Ed served in the U. S. Army during the Korean conflict. He worked for Kellogg's for 35 years acquiring the nickname of 'Putt-Putt'. He is survived by siblings; Dorothy (Bill) Reimer, Betty Lou Shank, Norma (Ed) Geishert, Esther (Ray) Trueblood, Frank (Marcia) Thomas III, Alice (Wayne) Smith, aunts; Bessie Ivey, Laura Kimble, Maxine Hill, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, George Arthur Thomas, sister, Lois Louise Towers, brother-in-law, Jake Shank and great nephew Cameron Thomas. Ed seldom missed auctions at Archbold, Ohio. He farmed and collected John Deere tractors and farm implements. He was a good friend and assisted the Amish. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Sunday School Treasurer, ran the sound system and opened and closed the church. The first "cross on the hill" was erected by F. Russell Thomas II and was replaced by Fred Thenen Sr. and Edward Thomas. Visitation will be Friday, November 12, 2010 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Tekonsha. Edwin W. Hakala Battle Creek Edwin W. Hakala, age 85 of Battle Creek, died Tuesday, November 9, 2010. He was born March 7, 1925 at the Marine Brigade Hospital, Port-au-Prince, Haiti the son of Edwin U. and Georgine (Moses) Hakala. Edwin enlisted in the, on December 22, 1942 while at the, . During, he served two years in the Southwest Pacific as an artilleryman, 9th Defense Battalion, I Marine Amphibious Corps. He was discharged as a Corporal, March 1, 1946 and returned to the University of Michigan. Upon his graduation on August 21, 1948 he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant United States Marine Corps. Joined 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina on September 15, 1950 as artillery forward observer, landed at Inchon, Korea with Company A, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. Wounded in Seoul, he was presented his first, by Colonel Lewis B. "Chesty" Puller, Co. 1st Marines. Subsequent combat included Chosin Reservoir operation and East Central front near "Punchbowl". Fourth wound on July 12, 1951 resulted in evacuation. Returning to civilian life on August 20, 1954, Edwin was appointed in Federal Civil Service where he remained until retirement as Deputy Regional Director, Federal Emergency Management Agency. In addition to four Purple Hearts, he received the Silver Star,, , Navy Commendation Medal for combat; Meritorious Service Medal for Marine Corps Reserve achievements; and gold Distinguished Civilian Service Medal for Federal Service accomplishments. He retired as a Colonel of the United States Marine Corps Reserve. Edwin was a member of First Presbyterian Church,, . Post 54 and Military Order of the Purple Heart. On June 15, 1949 he was married to Joyce M. Jackson, who preceded him in death on February 1, 2002. Surviving are three children: Fredrick J. Hakala of Battle Creek, Carole H. (Bob) Engle of Okemos and Julie A. (Kent Allen) Conant of Battle Creek; four grandchildren: Aimee Boyer, Miranda Crandal, Daniel and Michael Engle; five great-grandchildren: Kris Johnson, Hunter Hayes, Kennedi, Gavin and Gabriel Crandal. Graveside services will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday at Fort Custer National Cemetery with Rev. Patricia Weatherwax officiating and military honors presented by the United States Marine Corps. Those wishing to attend, please meet in the Cortege Assembly area prior to the service time. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Howrani Ameen Age 69, passed away on October 2, 2010. Beloved husband of Arlene for 30 years. Loving father to Ara Howrani and Ana (Joel) Howrani Heeres. Ameen will be remembered for changing the look of photography by capturing the powerful faces of everyday people in a compelling way. He will also be remembered for his charisma and the way he touched people on a personal level. At the time of his death, Ameen was working on a book, a 40-year retrospective of his photography in Detroit. A memorial for Ameen will be held on Friday, October 8, 5-9 p.m. at his studio. Katherine Rose Herbstreith Battle Creek Katherine Rose Herbstreith, 74, of Battle Creek, passed away Monday, November 8, 2010 at her home. She was born January 13, 1936 in Dayton, TN the daughter of Carl and Marie (White) Brady. She married Harry Herbstreith on December 24, 1953 in Rossville, GA. Katherine's whole life was her family, they knew her as "Nan". She loved her country music, tending to her flower gardens, working in her woods, the outdoors, and her cats, but most of all she loved to walk. She was well known for her southern cooking. She loved children and was an avid fan of Peyton Manning. She is survived by her husband; children, Christina (Robert) Worgess, Deborah Herbstreith, and Dwight Herbstreith; stepson, Terry Herbstreith; sister, Helen Louise (the late Bobby) Fleming; grandsons, Jason (Rebecca) Haineault, Matthew (Stephanie) Haineault, Travis Worgess, and Stephen Herbstreith; granddaughter, Jessica Worgess; adopted mom, Margarette Pegues; 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Timothy Scott Herbstreith. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service. He worked first as an associate of George Goodheart, founder of Applied Kinesiology and later practiced privately in Birmingham for 25 years. His ability to reach bodies, hearts and minds was legendary. Rob was gifted at articulating the pilgrimage towards consciousness. Rob was the enthusiastic president of Kirkwood Lake Association for 20 years. Rob loved to fish with his brothers and friends on the beautiful Michigan waterways. All those who knew Rob knew he was the facilitator of fun and joy and true engagement in life. Survived by beloved wife Lynn and daughters Sarah and Alyssa. Sean Michael Wright Battle Creek Sean Michael Wright, age 38, of Battle Creek, MI, died as a result of injuries sustained in an auto accident in Newton Township, on Sunday morning, November 7, 2010. Sean was born on June 8, 1972 in Battle Creek and was the son of Harold and Casey (Marion) Wright. He was a 1995 graduate of Harper Creek High School and was certified through Kellogg Community College. Sean was currently employed for the past four years as the maintenance supervisor for Calhoun Area Career Center and had been previously employed at the Battle Creek Public Schools for 14 years. He was an avid Michigan State Spartan fan, but his passion was Detroit Red Wings Hockey. Sean was an extremely hard working man and was greatly loved by his family and friends. He will be missed! Sean is survived by his wife, Tracy. Also surviving is his daughter, Courtney G. Wright, at home; his son, Zachary L. Wright, at home; his mother, Casey Crusius of Battle Creek; his sister, Patty (Troy) Neubaum of Preston, MD; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and several nieces. Sean was preceded in death by his father, Paul Richard Crusius on September 26, 2009. Ussher Kenneth L. Lovi husband of Darlene (McMillian) Ussher. Beloved father of Karen and Jon Dante, Laura and William Deirlein. Loving step-father of Mark and Matthew Mullikin, and Jennifer Alvey. Step-grandfather of Megan Dante, Abigail Deirlein, Kelley, Molly, Adam, and Zachary Mullikin, and Travis Alvey. Brother of Edith Koch. Mr. Ussher was preceded in death by wife Norma Ussher. Mr. Ussher was a Army veteran and retired salesman with Marposs Corp. and a member of St. Timothy Church. He was also a member of the Florence Lions Club and VFW. Passed away on Friday October 1, 2010 at age 82, and was a resident of Florence, Kentucky. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. with a Rosary Service staring at 3:30 p.m. at Stith Funeral Homes, 7500 Highway 42, Florence, KY. Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 10 a.m. at St. Timothy Church, 10272 US Highway 42, Union, KY. John Ramond Hernandez Lansing Formerly of Saginaw, MI. Loving son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather and friend passed away November 6, 2010 at home peacefully, at age 53. The son of Jesusa (Santoya) Hernandez and the late Celestino Hernandez was born May 27, 1957 in Saginaw, MI. He worked for M.E.H.D. and currently worked at Telemon as the State Director since 1991. He was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church, Lansing, MI. He was also a member of DLEG and on the board of directors for AFOP. He also worked with many community groups statewide. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, loved MSU football, and adored his princess Elizabeth and his son Juan. John was the center of many family gatherings and traditions. Surviving are a son, Juan "Spunky" (Susie) Hernandez, a daughter Elizabeth Hernandez; three sisters, Juanita Hernandez, Olga (David) Carbajal, Angela (Henry) Hernandez-Cardenas; a brother, Mario Hernandez; three grandchildren, Mariah, Destiny, and Joseph Hernandez; his nieces and nephews, Cassandra, Celeste, Jordan and Santino. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 11, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 915 N. 6th St, Saginaw. Fr. Frank Voris, O.F.M. Cap will officiate with burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral chapel, W.L. Case and Company, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. on Wednesday from 2:00-4:00p.m. and 6:00-8:00p.m. where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday at church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral liturgy. A memorial service will be held at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 W. Williams Josephine Mabel (Nee Kramer) Age 80 of Utica, died peacefully Saturday, October 2, 2010 after a 7 year battle with Alzheimer's. She is survived by her only daughter Donna (Michael) Kemper, her niece Marie (David) Vanker, and her nephews John Kramer and Raymond (Yvonne) Kramer plus several grandnieces and grandnephews.
