Aileen Conley Albion Aileen Conley, age 80 of Albion passed away Sunday, November 7, 2010 at her residence. She was born November 27, 1929 in Garrett, Kentucky to Bev and Elizabeth (Warrens) Scott. On August 30, 1947 she married Robert L. Conley who survives. She was a payroll clerk for Corning Glass for 14 years then she was an Administrative Assistant for the Mar-Lee schools for 16 years. Aileen was a member of the Grace Free Will Baptist Church in Albion where she sang for 65 years, she also was a Sunday school teacher and treasurer for the church. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, gardening and being a softball coach. Aileen is survived by her husband, Robert "Bob" Conley of Albion; daughter, Priscilla (Larry) Craighead of Shelby, OH; sons, Tom (Debbie) Conley of Bloomington, IL, Doug (Darla) Conley of Albion; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Gorman (Hester) Scott of Mousie, KY Funeral Service will be Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Drive, Albion, Michigan with Rev. Earl Martin officiating. Burial will be at Rice Creek Cemetery, Lee Township. Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, November 10, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Clarey Rita Mae July 22, 1926 - October 1, 2010. Rita's spirit has risen to heaven to meet her God, her husband and eldest son who preceded her in death. Soon she will be a part of a very special and long awaited McCrady Reunion with her parents and 10 brothers and sisters. Her death will bring to close a generation whose memories we will all cherish. Her last days were spent in the peace and comfort of her home in Sparks, Nevada with her daughter Peggy Clarey and son-in-law, Fred Conner. Rita was born at the farm on Pumping Station Road. Fairfield County, Ohio. She grew up in Sugar Grove, Ohio, attended and graduated from Berne Union School in Sugar Grove, Ohio. Rita was the youngest child born to Charles and Rosemary (Shonebarger) McCrady. Rita was married to Wilbert A. Clarey for 56 years before his death in 2006. At that time she moved to Nevada to live with her only daughter. She had four children: Daniel (Linda), Peggy (Fred), Bruce (Alise), and Andrew (Laura). She had six male grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was a Nurses Aid at Garden City Osteopathic Hospital for over 20 Years. G.C.O.H. is located less that one block from the family Home on Cardwell Street, Garden City, Michigan. Her interests included playing cards, bingo, casino gambling and creating Jewelry Pictures. With "Web", she became an active and enthusiastic member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, starting in the mid 50's at Johnsons Post #78, on Joy Road in Detroit, Michigan, and ending her service at Battle Born Post #9211 on VFW Historic Lane in Reno, Nevada. She was anointed by Father Norman King from the Immaculate Conception Church. Her remains will be at the Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia, Michigan. Instead of flowers or gifts, remembrances can be PAID FORWARD.

Dora G. Morales Battle Creek Dora G. Morales, 76, of Battle Creek passed away Monday November 8, 2010 at her home. She was born on October 1, 1934 in Springfield, MI to Joseph and Maria (DeLorenzo) Tonelli. Dora graduated from St. Philip Catholic High School in 1935. She married Frank Morales on August 1, 1935 in Battle Creek. Dora was employed by the Battle Creek Police Dept. for 21 years as a records clerk until she retired in 2001. She then worked as one of the secretaries at St. Jerome Catholic Church. Dora is survived by her husband, Frank Morales; her children, Ben (Jeanne) Morales, of East Leroy, Frank (Jennifer) Morales, Jr. of Climax, Trish (Mark Kivin) Morales, of Dowling, Mary (Bill) Poillion, of Houston, TX, Anna (Roger) Antes, Ted (Mary Anne) Morales, Lydia Ivany, Angela (Darrell) Belson, Diana Morales, and Joan (Dayton) Smith, all of Battle Creek; 32 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Matthew M. Morales in 2005, a brother, Rudy Tonelli, sisters, Lydia Metty, Ida Marietti, and Ann Ret. Dora was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church. She was a Master Gardener and enjoyed fishing, playing bingo, trips to the casino, and spending time with her family. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home where a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday November 11, 2010 at St. Jerome Catholic Church with The Reverend Mathew Manalel officiating. Herbert W. Breitbach

Herbert W. Breitbach Battle Creek Herbert W. Breitbach, 79, of Battle Creek died at home on Sunday, November 7, 2010. He was born December 6, 1930, in Wiesbaden, Germany to Willi and Elizabeth (Fischer) Breitbach. Herb grew up in Wiesbaden, where he started in the travel business in 1948, working for American Express. In 1953, he immigrated to the United States, serving two years with the U.S. Army, received his citizenship and then worked for Elliott Travel in Detroit. In 1958, he came to Battle Creek to serve as manager of Ermisch Travel. Herb purchased Ermisch Travel in 1963; moved it to its present location 26-28 E. Michigan Avenue (the former Gas Company building) and operated the business until retiring in 1995. His daughters continue to run Ermisch Travel, with the same unselfish service and special attention they saw their father give his customers. Herb loved his customers and the travel business and he always made you feel like you were his only client. On November 1, 1994, Herb married Marge Kyvig. Surviving are his wife, Marge; two daughters, Christa (Ken) Chapman of Charlotte and Stephanie Breitbach of Battle Creek; a son, Michael (Michelle Frew-Medley) Breitbach of Battle Creek; Marge's son, Michael (Kathy) Anderson of Massachusetts; five grandchildren, Atlee McFellin, Lily and Lena Breitbach, Wilber and Henning Anderson; and his former wife and the mother of his children, Inge Breitbach of Battle Creek. Herb was preceded in death by a son, Fred Breitbach on September 8, 2005; his sister, Hannelore Breitbach; and his parents. Herb was a member of, , International Club, the former Traffic Club and attended Trinity United Methodist Church for 20 years. He was a volunteer for Junior Achievement, Visitor and Convention Bureau, United Way, International Festival of Lights, Taste of Battle Creek and many other civic activities. For many years, he was involved in "Volkstrauertag", A Day of German National Mourning at the former Post Cemetery at Ft. Custer, which later became Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Herb enjoyed reading and read the German newspapers and articles his sister sent him from his homeland. He loved his family, taught them the family travel business; and introduced them to football, auto racing, soccer, cooking and the opera. Matthew L. Chopper Albion Matthew L. Chopper, age 95 of Albion passed away Saturday, November 6, 2010 at his residence in Albion. He was born April 10, 1915 in Chicago, Illinois to George and Julianna (Birch) Chopper. On June 6, 1951 he married Edna Greenman who preceded him in death on May 4, 2006. He graduated from Albion High School in 1933 and was the last living survivor of his class. He worked for Airco in Albion as the plant manager for 25 years and retired in 1977. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. He enjoyed fishing, shortwave radios and CB's. He loved his family very much. Matthew is survived by 2 stepsons, Ted Gibbs of Albion, and Richard Gibbs of Albion; 3 sisters, Jenny Panco of Battle Creek, Lillian Smak of Battle Creek, Olga Giddens of Hastings; brother, Alex Chopper of Tennessee; Godson, Chris (Leslie) Chopper of Albion; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 3 sisters, Sophie Chopper, Annie Haiduchik and Eleanor Lazarchuk; and 2 brothers, Nicholas Chopper and William Chopper. According to his wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no services. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Albion. His ability to reach bodies, hearts and minds was legendary. Rob was gifted at articulating the pilgrimage towards consciousness. Rob was the enthusiastic president of Kirkwood Lake Association for 20 years. Rob loved to fish with his brothers and friends on the beautiful Michigan waterways. Robert W. "Bob" Laird Battle Creek Robert W. "Bob" Laird, 82, of Battle Creek died peacefully after a long illness on November 5, 2010. Bob was born in Battle Creek on August 13, 1928, to the late Lester and Gwenyth Laird. Bob graduated from Lakeview High School in 1946 and from, School of Forestry in 1950. As a young man, Bob was commissioned in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant in the Battle Creek Reserve. He was also a 60-year member of the Battle Creek Lodge #12 F&AM. For most of Bob's life he co-owned the Blue Diamond Lumber Yards with his brothers James "Jim" and John "Jack" Laird. In later years, Bob enjoyed working on home projects with his best friend and twin brother, Jim. Bob also enjoyed living a natural-holistic lifestyle, talk radio, and reading, particularly historical novels and the works of Rudyard Kipling and Thomas Wolf. Bob is survived by his brother, James "Jim" Laird of Battle Creek; his son, Randall (Maida Zissis) Laird of Palm Harbor, Florida; and daughters, Gwenyth Laird (Keith) Pernie of Hendersonville, North Carolina and Patty (Mark) Anderson of Hickory, North Carolina. In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren, Megan, Brooke, Cosmo, Monica, Aaron and Ollie, and nieces, Cindy, Connie and Karen. Bob was preceded in death by Marjory Laird and his brother, John Laird. At the request of the family, a celebration of Bob's life will be held at a later date.
