Clarey Rita Mae July 22, 1926 - October 1, 2010. Rita's spirit has risen to heaven to meet her God, her husband and eldest son who preceded her in death. Soon she will be a part of a very special and long awaited McCrady Reunion with her parents and 10 brothers and sisters. Her death will bring to close a generation whose memories we will all cherish. Her last days were spent in the peace and comfort of her home in Sparks, Nevada with her daughter Peggy Clarey and son-in-law, Fred Conner. Rita was born at the farm on Pumping Station Road. Fairfield County, Ohio. She grew up in Sugar Grove, Ohio, attended and graduated from Berne Union School in Sugar Grove, Ohio. Rita was the youngest child born to Charles and Rosemary (Shonebarger) McCrady. Rita was married to Wilbert A. Clarey for 56 years before his death in 2006. At that time she moved to Nevada to live with her only daughter. She had four children: Daniel (Linda), Peggy (Fred), Bruce (Alise), and Andrew (Laura). She had six male grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was a Nurses Aid at Garden City Osteopathic Hospital for over 20 Years. G.C.O.H. is located less that one block from the family Home on Cardwell Street, Garden City, Michigan. Her interests included playing cards, bingo, casino gambling and creating Jewelry Pictures. With "Web", she became an active and enthusiastic member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, starting in the mid 50's at Johnsons Post #78, on Joy Road in Detroit, Michigan, and ending her service at Battle Born Post #9211 on VFW Historic Lane in Reno, Nevada. She was anointed by Father Norman King from the Immaculate Conception Church. Her remains will be at the Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia, Michigan. Instead of flowers or gifts, remembrances can be PAID FORWARD.

Corrine Marie Fredenburg Climax Corrine Marie Fredenburg, 80, died at the Kairos Dwelling Home for the Terminally Ill of Kalamazoo, MI, on Friday evening, November 12, 2010, following a lengthy illness and surrounded by her loving family. Corrine was born July 18, 1930 in Battle Creek, MI and was the daughter of August R. and Beatrice M. (Coleman) Maifert. She was a life time Battle Creek resident and a 1948 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. Corrine was a Born Again Christian and a member of Green Meadows Bible Baptist Church of Comstock, MI. She was a Red Cross volunteer at the former Lakeview General Hospital and volunteered for "SOWERS" (Servants On Wheels Ever Ready), who helped kids at camp. Corrine enjoyed crocheting, quilting, reading, doing puzzles and working in her garden. Corrine was united in marriage to Lynn A. Fredenburg on August 7, 1948 in Bedford, MI. Surviving is her husband of 62 years, Lynn; two sons, Larry A. Fredenburg of Huntsville, TX and Gary L. (Robin) Fredenburg of Battle Creek; two daughters, Shirley Marie (Mike) Sofia of Grand Rapids, MI and Fort Mill, SC and Jackie Lynne (Dean) Rivard of Longview, TX; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren and two sisters, Dorine Walker of Galesburg and Eleanor (Ed) Chapman of Bull Shoals, AR. She was preceded in death by her parents. At the request of her family, friends will be received on Tuesday, November 16 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek The funeral service to celebrate Corrine's life will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 17th at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Elouise A. Bowen Battle Creek Elouise A. (Whalen) Bowen, 86, of Battle Creek slipped away peacefully Friday November 12, 2010 at Kairos (Hospice) Dwelling, Kalamazoo. She was born in Sunfield, MI to Ralph and Verna (Hager) Townsend on December 10, 1923 and grew up in Vermontville. Elouise married Martin (Joe) Whalen and together they had four children; Mike (Chris) Whalen, Marty Whalen, Patti Whalen, all of Battle Creek and Kathy (Rick) Sly of Richland. She was employed at Ralston Purina/ Nestle until she retired in the early 1990's. Years later her marriage to James Bowen ended in divorce. Elouise is also survived by her aunt, Phyllis Kilpatrick, of Nashville, sisters, Margaret Strang, of Charlotte, and June Nash, of Holt, as well as grandchildren; Specialist Matthew Koerner, Justin, Joe and Casey Whalen, Austin Ebinger, Shaina Whalen, Michael Johnson, Steven (Simone) Cato, Luke and Sam Sly, great grandsons, Makaio & Josiah Cato, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Bud and Pete Townsend, and a grandson, Phillip Cato. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. Family will receive friends from 4p.m. to 5p.m. Tuesday November 16, 2010 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home where a memorial service will be held at 5p.m. that day. Harold L. Cripps

Harold L. Cripps Battle Creek Harold L. Cripps, 84, a long time Battle Creek resident, died at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence, with his family at his side, on Wednesday, October 13, 2010. He was born in Athens, Michigan (where he was known as 'Foozy') to Gladys (Smith) and Forrest Cripps on October 4, 1926. Harold grew up in Athens and graduated from Athens High School in 1944; he was captain of the football and basketball teams and vice president of the student council. He spent his early years hunting and fishing the rural areas around Athens. Harold joined the Navy in February 1944 and he served 2½years as a Seaman 1st class on the Light Cruiser USS Brooklyn in the Mediterranean during, , where he earned two battle stars. The Athens WW II memorial lists his name next to that of his brother, Donald, who served in the Pacific arena. On his return to the port of New York he met Mary Kolada, whom he married June 15th, 1946 in Battle Creek. Harold attended and received a diploma from Argubright Business College in 1947 on the GI bill. He then attended the University of Wisconsin Banking School from 1966-1968. Subsequently he worked at Security National Bank (later Comerica) in Battle Creek for 42 years, from 1947 to 1989; first as an auditor and retired as Senior Vice-President and Cashier. On April 10, 2010, he was joined in matrimony to Athens classmate Beverly O'Keefe at The Heritage in Battle Creek. Mary, his wife of 62 years preceded him in death on October 6th 2008, after years of loving care given by Harold. Also preceding Harold in death were his sisters, Virginia Converse of Fine Lake and Evelyn Converse of Athens. Surviving are their three children, Dr. Cathy (Don Bachman) Cripps of Bozeman MT, Cindra (Ogden) Kellogg of Gold Hill, OR, Jeff Cripps DVM of Dimondale; two step-grandsons; one step-granddaughter; a brother, Donald Cripps of Battle Creek; and many nieces and nephews. Harold was a long time member of the First Congregational Church and was devoted to his family. He donated his time as chairman of the Police and Fire Pension board for 19 years and as treasurer for the YMCA during its remodeling. Harold received a Proclamation from the Mayor and City Commission of Battle Creek in 2009 for his service. He was a member of the Athelstan and Battle Creek Country Clubs and was a well-respected member of the community. Harold's hobbies included golf and coin-collecting, and he was the accountant for his son's veterinarian clinic. His children will miss their loved and respected father, one of the world's last honest men "to the penny". Services to celebrate Harold's life will be officiated by Rev. Thomas Ott at Ft. Custer National Cemetery 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2010. Arrangements will be announced by the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. He was born June 01, 1939 in Battle Creek, MI the son of James Milton and Grace Ellen (Kelso) Stanfield. He was a 1957 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School and then attended Kellogg Community College and Western Michigan University. James was employed by Oliver Electrical Mfg. for 3 years before being employed at Equitable Life Insurance Company. He transferred to California with Equitable in 1969 and retired in 1995. The past few years he served as a substitute teacher around the Battle Creek area. James is survived by wife of 49 years: Anne Frances (Simons) Stanfield of Bellevue, MI; daughter: Kristin and Terry Ascherin of Tujunga, CA and grandsons: Ian, Trevor and Hunter Jankowski; daughter: Stacey and John Mavilia of Medford, OR and grandson: Colton Mavilia; Step-Mother: Dorothy Stanfield; Step-Sisters: Eunice Bauserman and Vivian Brown; Aunt: Josephine McDermott; and numerous relatives and close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents. He enjoyed music and was leader of the Jim Stanfield Quintet dance band for many years. Olin A. "Barney" Barnhill Dowling Olin A. "Barney" Barnhill, 87, died Friday, November 12, 2010. He was born in Paragould, Arkansas on January 21, 1923 the son of Huston A. and Dora Ann (Barnes) Barnhill. Barney served his country as a Staff Sgt. in the United States Army Air Force from 1943 1945. He served as a B-24 Tail Gunner in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes and in Air Offensive I Europe being awarded 4, during his tour. Barney owned and operated Barney's Glass and Barney's Radiator and Auto Body Supply from 1954 until his retirement in 1977, when he sold the business. He served as a member and former President of the Lakeview Business Association, as a member of the Battle Creek Area Chamber of Commerce, the Builders Association, the National Glass Dealers Board of Directors, Battle Creek Chapter of the American Business Clubs where he was a member of the Big Hat Club and was the founding President and Administrator of the Michiana Glass Dealers Association. In 1974, he was nominated and selected to appear in the 1974 edition of the Who's Who in Michigan. Barney married Ruth M. Jarvis on April 1, 1941 in Paragould, Arkansas' she survives. He is also survived by his daughter, Teresa (Richard) Hamilton of Dowling; a son, Jimmie Barnhill of Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great great grandson and a sister, Violet Mae (James) Garner. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Roy and Harold Barnhill. Barney served as a member and former President of the Pennfield School Board for more than 16 years and was very active with Junior Achievement. He was also a member of the Optimist Club, Eagles Aerie #299, the Pennfield Exchange Club, American Legion Post #54 & #45 and was a life-member of the, . Barney had a huge heart and loved to help others, particularly children. He was very active in his Masonic Fraternity. Barney was a member of the Ira A. Beck Lodge # 503 F&AM and was also very active in the Saladin Shrine Temple, Grand Rapids where he served as a Potentate's Aide, the Battle Creek Shrine Club where he served as President in 1985 and the Mini-500 Patrol Parade Unit which he served as director for 6 years helping to raise funds for the Shrine Children's Hospitals.. Barney enjoyed fishing, gardening and traveling in his motor home with his wife, Ruth and friends. He also enjoyed working with his flowers and fruit trees in Florida, spending time with his family and friends and parading in his Mini-500 Shrine car. At the request of the family, they will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8, Wednesday November 17th at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, where a Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate Barney's life will be held 1:00 p.m., Thursday November 18, 2010 at the funeral home with Pastor Jeffrey Worden, officiating. Rob graduated from Oakland University and then the National College of Chiropractic in Illinois. He worked first as an associate of George Goodheart, founder of Applied Kinesiology and later practiced privately in Birmingham for 25 years. His ability to reach bodies, hearts and minds was legendary. Rob was gifted at articulating the pilgrimage towards consciousness. Rob was the enthusiastic president of Kirkwood Lake Association for 20 years. Rob loved to fish with his brothers and friends on the beautiful Michigan waterways. He went to college in Missouri for two years, later joining the Marines in 1952 during the Korean Conflict, where he served until 1954. Bill married Phyllis L. Lear on April 20, 1957, living in Missouri until August 1957, moving to Portland, Michigan. In 1960, they moved to Battle Creek, Michigan and opened Teegarden's Market in Level Park, selling it in 1980. He also worked for Cello-Foil, Bedford Township and was a driver for Holsum Bakery, Post Gardens and K Drive Greenhouse, retiring in 1994. He was a lifetime member of Masonic Bedford Lodge 207, the Level Park Men's Club and the American Legion. Bill enjoyed flying with the Raggedy Anne Club and his family many places in their private plane. Bill also enjoyed boating, golfing, traveling and casinos. He was a winter resident of Okeechobee, Florida since 1998. Bill is survived by his wife: Phyllis L. Teegarden, two daughters: Lynn (Mike) Norrod and Lee (David) Buschke, son: Jay W. (Angel) Teegarden, brother: Donald (Diane) Teegarden of Battle Creek, eight grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and family friends. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 19, 2010 at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service from 11:00 a.m. until 12 Noon, with a memorial service to follow at 12 Noon in the Bachman Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at the Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the . Williams (Nee Kramer, Josephone Mabel

Williams Josephine Mabel (Nee Kramer) Age 80 of Utica, died peacefully Saturday, October 2, 2010 after a 7 year battle with Alzheimer's. She is survived by her only daughter Donna (Michael) Kemper, her niece Marie (David) Vanker, and her nephews John Kramer and Raymond (Yvonne) Kramer plus several grandnieces and grandnephews. Jo graduated from Capac High School in 1948 and worked for Sears for 32 years. She loved gardening and animals. Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Wm.
