Bernita M. Edgerton Homer Bernita M. Edgerton, age 94, of Homer passed away Monday, October 4, 2010 at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall, Michigan. She was born October 27, 1915 in Grand Ledge, Michigan to Roy and Mabel (DePue) Taylor. On June 10, 1938 she married Robert E. Edgerton who preceded her in death on January 15, 1983. Bernita came to Homer in 1954 where she taught at the Homer Community Schools for many years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Homer and its Woman's Circle, an avid supporter of the Homer Public Library and enjoyed reading. She is survived by her daughters, Virginia Zadigian of Mebane, NC, Carolyn (Thomas) Reid of Anderson, SC; son, Lee (Mary Ellen) Edgerton of St. Cloud, FL; 6 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother, Howard, and a sister, Barbara Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, October 8, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Drive, Albion, Michigan. Funeral Service will be Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Lynne McQuown officiating. Clarey Rita Mae July 22, 1926 - October 1, 2010. Rita's spirit has risen to heaven to meet her God, her husband and eldest son who preceded her in death. Soon she will be a part of a very special and long awaited McCrady Reunion with her parents and 10 brothers and sisters. Her death will bring to close a generation whose memories we will all cherish. Her last days were spent in the peace and comfort of her home in Sparks, Nevada with her daughter Peggy Clarey and son-in-law, Fred Conner. Rita was born at the farm on Pumping Station Road. Fairfield County, Ohio. She grew up in Sugar Grove, Ohio, attended and graduated from Berne Union School in Sugar Grove, Ohio. Rita was the youngest child born to Charles and Rosemary (Shonebarger) McCrady. Rita was married to Wilbert A. Clarey for 56 years before his death in 2006. At that time she moved to Nevada to live with her only daughter. She had four children: Daniel (Linda), Peggy (Fred), Bruce (Alise), and Andrew (Laura). She had six male grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was a Nurses Aid at Garden City Osteopathic Hospital for over 20 Years. G.C.O.H. is located less that one block from the family Home on Cardwell Street, Garden City, Michigan. Her interests included playing cards, bingo, casino gambling and creating Jewelry Pictures. With "Web", she became an active and enthusiastic member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, starting in the mid 50's at Johnsons Post #78, on Joy Road in Detroit, Michigan, and ending her service at Battle Born Post #9211 on VFW Historic Lane in Reno, Nevada. She was anointed by Father Norman King from the Immaculate Conception Church. Her remains will be at the Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia, Michigan. Instead of flowers or gifts, remembrances can be PAID FORWARD.

Donna L. Mellen Delton Age sixty-nine, passed away October 6, 2010, at her residence. Donna was born March 2, 1941, in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Vernon and Juanita (Woodward) Sherrod. Donna attended Hickory Corners Bible Church. She loved to fish, as she was the Captain of their fishing boat, the "Donna Lee". Donna enjoyed hunting, being in the woods with her husband, Richard, when he was hunting. Donna also enjoyed traveling, going to auctions and garage sales. She worked as an inspector at Flex-Fab, for over twenty three years. She and Richard built a cabin in Colorado, piece by piece. On July 25, 1959, she married the love of her life, Richard Mellen, who survives. Members of her family include a son, Richard Mellen of Delton; daughter, Karmen (Mike) Nickerson, of Battle Creek; a brother, Vernon Sherrod of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, Karla, Kandes, Kelie Mellen, and Joshua Whittemore; great-grandchildren, Donna, Carter, and Jaycee; and several nieces and nephews. Donna was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Luann Butcher. Her family will receive friends, Friday, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Williams-Gores Funeral Home in Delton, where funeral services will be conducted, Saturday, October 9, 2010, 12:00 p.m., Pastor Jeff Worden, officiating. Gary Kai Lemke Richland Gary Kai Lemke, age 64, of Richland, MI, died unexpectedly Monday morning, October 4, 2010. Gary was born on August 13, 1946 in Indianapolis, IN and was the son of Adolph B. and Gerda J. (Sorenson) Lemke. He moved to the Detroit area as an infant and to the Kalamazoo area in 1964. Gary was a 1964 graduate of Mackenzie High School, Detroit, and received his BA in Marketing and Business Administration and his MA in Counseling and Student Personnel from Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo. Gary was a business teacher and football coach for Paw Paw High School from 1969 thru 1972. He then became employed at Kellogg Community College, Battle Creek, MI, retiring in 2003 after 31 years of faithful service as the Dean of Continuing Education. Gary was awarded the National Person of the Year for the National Council on Community Services and Continuing Education; Outstanding Service Award recipient for the Michigan Community College Community Services Association; President of the National Council of Community Service and Continuing Education at KCC; President of the Michigan Community College Community Service Association at KCC, and published 5 articles in the Community Service Catalyst and the Community Education Journal. His passion was football, both college and the professional level, especially the Detroit Lions. Gary was a spectator at all of his children's sporting events and he thoroughly enjoyed taking them tubing, skiing and fishing on Sherman Lake, where he lived for 32 years. He loved hummingbirds, his flowers, gardening, and his tomato plants. Surviving are his two daughters, Jennifer "Jenny" M. (Bill) Bates of Richland and Michelle N. Lemke of Chicago, IL; his son, Christopher K. "Chris" Lemke of Richland; two granddaughters, Ashley N. and Alicia M. Bates; and his sister, Gail Silcock of Troy, MI; and three nieces. Gary was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation with the family will be from noon until 1:00 pm on Friday, October 8th at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Richland Chapel, 9170 East D. Avenue. The memorial service to celebrate Gary's life will be held immediately afterwards, at 1:00. A continuation of Gary's life celebration will follow at the Blackhawk Bar & Grill, 8940 East 32nd Street, Richland at 2:30 PM on Friday. Ameen will be remembered for changing the look of photography by capturing the powerful faces of everyday people in a compelling way. He will also be remembered for his charisma and the way he touched people on a personal level. At the time of his death, Ameen was working on a book, a 40-year retrospective of his photography in Detroit. A memorial for Ameen will be held on Friday, October 8, 5-9 p.m. at his studio. Marvin Darrell Unruh Battle Creek Marvin Darrell Unruh, age 88, of Battle Creek, died at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence on Wednesday, October 6, 2010. Marvin was born near Pawnee Rock, Kansas on July 19, 1922, to Carl and Goldie (Koehn) Unruh, where he and his family resided until the age of 14. Having lost the family farm during the Depression he then came to Bedford in 1936 with his family, as his father was able to work at Post Cereals. He graduated from Battle Creek Central in 1940 and shortly thereafter enlisted in the, Air Force serving five years thru, . Marvin served for two years with the 8th Air Force in England, servicing the B-17. He began his Air Force duty as an aircraft armorer and later converted to the maintenance field. Following his Air Force duty, he worked as an installer for Michigan Bell Telephone Company for three years, and then returned to military service with the Michigan Air National Guard as an aircraft mechanic, retiring medically from the, in May 1971, as a Chief Master Sergeant. He gained the distinction of being one of the first members of the Battle Creek ANG group. He is survived by his wife, the former Mavis Symonds, whom he married in England on March 7, 1945. Also surviving are his daughter, Lynette (Greg) Owen of Rochester, WA; two sons, James (Judy) Unruh of Marshall and Steven (Linda) Unruh of Bloomfield Hills, MI. Marvin enjoyed spending time with his 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and all 4 siblings. Marvin used to build fires to heat the old Bedford Bible Church on Sunday mornings back in 1937 38. He was baptized in that church in 1937. Marvin was very involved with the Boy Scouts and was a Scoutmaster at Riverside School, a member of the, , Sportsman Club & Centerline of Calhoun Co. Marvin was a Life member of the, . & member of the American Legion. His favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing, skeet shooting, stained glass work, building and repairing wooden canoes and researching the Unruh family history. Until recently, Marvin and Mavis enjoyed 25 winters in South Texas, where they developed several long lasting friendships. At the request of the family, they will receive friends 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Funeral services to celebrate Marvin's life will be held at the Bedford Bible Church at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 9, 2010. Interment with full military honors will follow at Bedford Cemetery. Steven Wayne Mapes Arredondo Battle Creek Steven Wayne Mapes Arredondo, 29, of Battle Creek died unexpectedly at Battle Creek Health System and was ushered into Heaven on October 3, 2010 surrounded by his family, both earthly and heavenly. Steven was born in Battle Creek on June 9, 1981 to Steven W. Mapes and Kathy L. (Arredondo) McIlvain. He was affectionately know to cousins and friends as LOC and was a lifelong resident of Battle Creek and attended both private Christian Schools and Battle Creek Public Schools, graduating and earning his certificate in welding. He is survived by his parents, Steven W. (Cheryl) Mapes, Kathy L. (Corey) McIlvain and his step-father, David S. Owens, with whom he shared a close and loving relationship; sisters, Alisa (Issac) Iliff, Emily Mapes and Amanda Mapes all of Battle Creek; brothers, Danny Mapes of Battle Creek and T.J. (Chelsie) Owens of Tooele, UT; Fiancé Jennifer Andrews; grandparents, Esmer and Emma Lee French; his treasured children, Torren, Taiyah and Kendall whom he loved with all his heart; nephews Dyllan and Dammon and niece Aleigha; and many close aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Steven was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Dale and Sylvia Mapes; maternal grandparents, Guadalupe and Lilly Arredondo; aunt, Mary Geeting; and uncle, Mark Moon. He worked for various temp agencies in the area and enjoyed working for relatives at their businesses, always helping out where he could. Steven was always very talented in whatever he chose to do and had a gift of selflessness and charm making many friends during his journey on earth. He played ice hockey on numerous teams during his youth and enjoyed being a part of the Battle Creek Bullets during his teenage years. He enjoyed Facebook, darts and playing poker all of which he was very good at. His greatest accomplishment is being an organ donor for the Gift of Life. His heroism will save many lives and he will continue to live on through his gift to those in need. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life is scheduled for Friday, October 8 at 6:00 pm at the Andrus Street Church of God in Battle Creek, with the Reverend William Bingham officiating. Jean was a homemaker in every sense of the word, raising a family of seven children with her husband Harold on the family farm in Williamston. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Williams (Nee Kramer, Josephone Mabel

Williams Josephine Mabel (Nee Kramer) Age 80 of Utica, died peacefully Saturday, October 2, 2010 after a 7 year battle with Alzheimer's. She is survived by her only daughter Donna (Michael) Kemper, her niece Marie (David) Vanker, and her nephews John Kramer and Raymond (Yvonne) Kramer plus several grandnieces and grandnephews. Jo graduated from Capac High School in 1948 and worked for Sears for 32 years. She loved gardening and animals. Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Rd., (3 blks. E. of Van Dyke) Utica .
